Woman’s White Gold Wedding Band Lost in the Sand, Found and Returned Myrtle Beach SC

On Monday, September 1st, just before 5:30 pm, I received a text from Laura K. saying, “Can you help me? My wedding band is gone.  Somewhere near 14th street pier. I Scoured where I know it happened. It must have gotten pushed under the sand. Less than an hour after I knew it was gone, I checked on my hands and knees for 20 minutes.” I immediately replied saying, “Call me,” with my phone number. I didn’t hear anything back from her so I figured she found it. I woke up a little late this morning, but had a text from 5:57 am saying, “I missed this last night, sorry! When is good to call? Can you get out there today?? As I’m getting ready to respond, I get a phone text from Laura at 9:02 am saying, “good morning, Jim, this is Laura K. I didn’t want to call you too early, but I can use your help finding my ring asap if you’re available.” This time I had a number to call and called Laura. I told her that unfortunately I had a scheduled search at noon but would probably be available between 3-4 pm. After finishing up the first search, I called Laura, and we agreed to meet at 3:30 pm. Just after 2:30 pm, I got another text from Laura saying, “We will be back in the next 18 minutes. We will wait for you by the Holiday Pavilion Resort Tiki bar right on the boardwalk. I texted Laura back that I’d be there at 3 pm.

When I arrived, I called her to get an idea of where she was on the beach and made my way towards her. When we met, she led the way to where her and her family had been the day before. She pointed out a small area, maybe 10’X5’. I confirmed I was looking for a white gold ring, so I knew the vdi (visual display indicator) on my Equinox 800 would give me a number between 10-12. I started a north/south grid line and on my third line, I hit it!! I got a solid 10 and had no doubt. I took a scoop of sand, checked the hole and had her ring in my scoop. I gently shook the sand out and saw Laura’s ring in the bottom of the scoop. She was standing about 10 feet behind me and watching her kids. So, I held up the ring over my shoulder until she glanced at me and saw me holding her ring. I think it took her a split second to close the distance between us to take her ring. She was extremely excited and called to her husband that I had found it. They were a very excited and gracious couple that gave me a hug from Laura and a handshake from her husband, Chris to close the deal.

James called me and asked if I could help him find a very special ring that he had given to his very special lady friend! As sometimes happens in life, people get upset about something that is said or done and we tend to react and say or do things that we later regret. (I thing we all have been there…right?). Well, this very special ring was thrown out of a truck window while sitting at a stop light. James immediately realized the severity of his action and he pulled into the gas station parking lot and began searching for the ring. It was a yellow gold ring with small diamonds and a very small size and even though the grass had been recently cut they could not find the lost thrown ring. James even got his own metal detector from home and they used it to search for a couple of hours but only found pull tabs and small pieces of aluminum. Then he found my number on line and we made arrangements to meet later on that same day. After showing me the 50 square foot area that he was “almost 100% sure” that was where the ring landed…I got my metal detector out and started to carefully grid search the small area. Along most all roads and sidewalks there is the usual trash items and this area was littered with small pieces of aluminum from the numerous soda cans that were shredded by the lawn mowers over the years. I went slowly and investigated each signal that sounded even close to what a small gold ring would respond like. After 20 minutes of careful searching I decided to expand the search area and about 10 feet further up the sidewalk I got a smooth, solid, repeatable signal that proved to be exactly what I was looking for! James was in tears when I handed him his ring and the relief and happiness were evident by his big smile!

Cocoa Beach Florida Lost gold wedding ring found by Ring Finder Mike McInroe

Andy was visiting friends here in Cocoa Beach, Florida and after a day out fishing in the Atlantic Ocean they pulled their boat into the loading dock area and Andy decided he needed to rinse the fish smell off of his hands. So he laid down on the dock and while rinsing his hands in the warm salt water his gold wedding ring slipped off of his finger and disappeared into the depths below the dock! Of course he was shocked and immediately waded out into the water but soon realized the water was way too deep to even try and attempt a dive. Someone suggested calling a Ring Finder and they contacted Al Zenker, a local member of theringfinders.com but unfortunately he does not do deep water recoveries and he recommended they call me. I met Andy and his friends at the dock and checked the depth to be sure my Blu3 Nemo dive system would allow me to search the bottom effectively and it measured just over 10 and a half feet deep so I was good to go!

I suited up and set a PVC marker pole at the spot where Andy’s ring fell into the water. Visibility was just over a foot and as I descended to the bottom I immediately got a couple of signals. A rusty screw driver, a deep signal and then a sharp clear signal and my hand felt something round and smooth and I slipped it on my index finger. As I ascended to the surface I came out of the water finger first and watched Andy’s face. He was visibly in awe that I had actually found it and was so thankful and grateful to have his lost ring back once again!

Lost gold ring in water, Withlacoochee River, Hernando County Florida…found by Florida Ring Finder!

Bennie and his friends were enjoying the day along the Withlacoochee River swimming and taking turns swinging on a rope over the water. As Bennie let go of the rope he felt his gold ring come off of his finger and a sick feeling came over him. This was a very special ring given to him by his father 5 years ago and he has treasured it ever since. And now it had fallen into the depths of the silty river bottom! He and his friends tried diving down and feeling with their hands but the 8 foot depth and uneven bottom was more of a challenge than they could endure. Bennie called his mother and told her what happened and she went online and found Mr. Steve Thomas who is one of the Ring Finders in the West Florida area but unfortunately he only does shallow water and land searches so he recommended they call me to see if I could help them. After hearing their story I decided to meet them at the sight the following day. It was a 2 hour drive but we finally arrived and began setting up my PVC grid, my BLU3 Nemo dive system, mask, wet suit and fins. Bennie was very sure of where he and his ring fell into the water so down I went and began searching along my PVC grid that was setting on the bottom. The first 2 signals were deeper in the sand so I left them and the 3rd signal was louder on my hand held Pulse Dive unit and there sitting on top of the sandy bottom was Bennie’s lost gold ring! I really wanted to continue searching for other targets as the rope swing area was a favorite for the locals but I had noticed just before my entering the water that there was a group of people just waiting for me to finish up so they could enjoy jumping off of the tree and swinging on the rope…so I slowly ascended with Bennie’s gold ring tucked safely in my finds pouch. Bennie was intently watching me as I swam up to shore and as I smiled and gestured with a thumbs up…he began grinning from ear to ear! What a thrill it is to be able to conduct a search, find the lost item and then to return it to someone that is hurting and feeling a great heaviness and loss! And then to experience seeing them transform to happiness and joy and see more tears…only these are tears of sheer relief and thankfulness!

Man’s Titanium Wedding Band Lost in the Surf, Recovered and Returned Sunset Beach NC

Just after 3 p.m., I got the following text “Hey Jim, my name is Mike. I’m at Sunset Beach and just lost my wedding band in the surf. Any chance you can help me?” I called the number attached to the text and spoke with Mike. I asked him about what time and how deep he was when he lost it. He replied he had lost it about an hour prior and was 2 feet deep. A quick glance at the tide tables and he was just about high tide when he lost it. So, I told him I could be there in about 30-40 minutes. I figured by the time I got there; the tide would be out far enough that the ring should be calf deep. Mike agreed to have me come and I was out the door.

When I arrived at their rental house, Mike’s sister met me in the driveway. We walked down to the beach access, and she pointed Mike out to me. I met Mike and I got a few more answers and then he led me out in the surf where he thought he lost his ring. He took me farther out than I thought his ring would be, but that was ok, I’d rather search more than less area. I followed him back in, set a landmark on the beach to guide my lines the best I could, and started a grid search. On my second line coming back in towards shore, I hit a great signal and knew I found his ring. It took me 3 scoops to get his ring out of the sand in calf deep water. When I got his ring in the scoop, I shook the scoop under water to clear the sand out. I was positive I had his ring when I heard the clatter of his ring hitting the metal of the scoop. I pulled out his ring and started walking to the beach. I watched Mike as he got out of his beach chair and start walking towards me. He had a look of uncertainty on his face until I held his ring up and then his face turned to disbelief. He told me I was amazing and then said that took maybe 4 minutes. I’ll take that!

Man’s White and Yellow Gold Wedding Band Lost in the Ocean, Recovered and Returned North Myrtle Beach SC

Shortly after 11 a.m., I received a text from my son-in-law, Donnie who’s a North Myrtle Beach Police Officer asking, “Can you come to 23rd Ave South, ring?” I replied “sure.” He then added, “It’s in the water, kind of shallow but the tide is coming in. 2 hours before high tide.” He also sent me a name (Clete) and a phone number. I called Clete to get a few more details and told him I’d be there in about 10 minutes.

When I arrived at the beach, I met Clete as I was coming off the boardwalk. He walked me out to the area where he had marked the spot with a kid’s shovel buried in the sand. He said it was 50 steps out to the area. I looked at what 50 steps would approximately be, and I was prepared to get wet, but 50 steps would put me under water. Then he let me know it was 50 heel to toe steps, ok a little better.  I had him mark off the steps and he ended up about waist deep in the water. I turned my machine on and started my walk out to him. The water was cold!!! I caught a few waves that put me shoulder deep, but things were good. I did a couple of grid lines from shore to the spot with no luck. I then started at his spot and worked a grid around that spot. Suddenly, I got a good signal ringing up between 10-12. For the type ring he described, I was in the ballpark. I had to keep the coil on the target and butt the scoop up against the coil. Then move the coil out of the way to try and dig the target. After the third scoop, I had the target in the scoop. I let the waves wash the sand out of the scoop and Bingo; Clete’s ring was staring up at me from the bottom of the scoop. I removed the ring and clutched it in a closed fist as I walked back to shore. I looked up and saw Clete and Ashley, his wife, making their way towards me. Clete asked, “Did you find it?” I held out my fist and handed his lost treasure back to him. He was so relieved and grateful.

Lady’s White Gold Wedding Ring Lost in the Sand, Found and Returned Ocean Isle Beach NC

On Saturday night, August 31st at about 11:15 pm I received the following text, “Hi! I lost my wedding band today at ocean isle. Can you help tomorrow?” I responded with the normal questions, what time it was lost, where – soft sand or in the ocean, and if in the ocean how deep she was? She responded that it was in the dry sand. At that point I called her to make sure I had all the details and set up a time for the next morning for a search. This is when she told me that both her wedding band and engagement ring were stuck in a pouch on the beach chair. When she got back to the rental is when she realized the wedding ring was missing.

This morning, Sunday, I arrived at the address she gave me and met her in the driveway. She led me out to the area they had been sitting and I started a north/south grid search, extending the search area out on all four sides. She had told me when I started the search it was a white gold ring, so I knew I was looking for a signal between 6-8 on the machine. After completing the search area with no luck, I decided to start an east/west grid search. Now I’d be covering the area between where she was sitting and going across the beach towards the beach access point. On my second pass of the new grid, I got a solid 7 on the machine. Bingo. I dug out a scoop of sand and laid it on the beach, smoothing it out with my foot. I immediately saw her ring, reached down and picked it up. I held it up for her to see and she couldn’t believe it. She was so grateful and trying to hold back the tears of relief. This search ended with one happy young lady, a found ring and a hug.

White Gold Wedding Band Set Lost in the Dry Sand, Found and Returned North Myrtle Beach SC (with Video)

This recovery started on Monday, Aug 27th about 1:10 pm, with a text message from Rachel saying, “Hi Jim. Am I able to hire you to search around our beach chairs for my wedding rings?” The text had her phone number, so I called her to get a little more detail. She told me that she took her ring set off and put them in her cover-up pocket to put on suntan lotion. A short time later she took the cover-up off, forgetting about the set. Within seconds, she remembered about them being in the pocket, and they were gone. She was sure they were around the beach chairs. Unfortunately, I wasn’t available for at least an hour or two, but she said she wasn’t going anywhere until she was sure the area was checked.

I called her back about 1:45 pm saying I’d be there in 30-45 minutes. When I got there she was in the parking lot talking to friends. We walked out on the beach and across the sand to where her husband Rob was sitting. The search area was maybe 1.5X1.5 ft.  I had my Equinox 800 with me, turned it on and started swinging. With the ring set being white gold, I knew the VDI (Visual Display Indicator) would show between 8-12, depending on the size of the rings. Within seconds I had an 11 VDI and a strong signal next a beach chair. I asked Rachel if she’d move the beach chair so I could be sure I wasn’t getting interference from it. I swung my machine back over the spot and BINGO! I had to take 2 scoops to get the target out of the hole. I didn’t ask, but I assumed that Rachel and Rob had tried to find the ring set and moved enough sand to bury the ring a little deeper. When I spread the sand out on the beach, Rachel spotted her ring before I did and quickly picked it up. There were a few very happy tears of relief and a big hug from Rachel, who didn’t think she’d get her precious treasure back.

Man’s White Gold Wedding Band Lost in the Ocean, Found and Returned in North Myrtle Beach SC

This little adventure started Monday evening, June 14th, when my wife sent me a screen shot from the North Myrtle Beach FB page saying in part, “Lost men’s white gold wedding band, in shallow water near 15th Ave South NMB. Please contact me if found. Thank you!” I looked up the post to see if I could get any more details and noticed 3 or 4 comments on there to contact me. I also left a comment saying, “If I can help, please call me” along with a link to my ring finder blog page to show her I was legit. I also sent her a message with the same information and added that low tide was in about an hour, and this would be the time to search. Roughly two hours later I got a message on my business suite saying, “Hi, my husband lost his wedding ring today in the waterfront of Carolina reef in NMB – wanted to see if you are able to help locate it/now your service works. Thank you so much in advance.” I responded to her message and also asked her to call me; it’s so much faster and clearer than texting back and forth. She called and I got the details and told her I could be there in 15 minutes.

When I arrived, I met Kelly and her husband, Ed as they came out of the elevator in the parking garage. This was the perfect scenario for losing/finding a ring lost in the ocean. He had lost it between 3:30-4:00 pm, which was within 30-45 minutes of high tide and was between knee and waist deep water. He had been playing catch with his daughter and while reaching to catch the ball, it hit his left hand knocking the ring into the ocean. When I got there it was a little over an hour after low tide, so I had a lot of the beach in the suspected search area that was just wet sand. Kelly and Ed put me in the area they knew was where he lost it. I started an east/west perpendicular to the beach grid search. On my 6th or 7th line I got a solid 18 on the Nox 800. This was a little higher than I expected for a man’s white gold wedding band, but I was confident I had found his ring. Dug a scoop of sand out and laid it on the beach, drug my foot over the pile to spread it out, and saw just a little sliver of Ed’s ring sticking out of the sand. I reached down and picked it up, shined my head lamp on it and said something like, “here’s your ring.” They both were kind of frozen; I don’t think they thought there was much chance of finding their ring, especially in the dark. They were excited, shocked, and very grateful all at the same time.  I love doing this!!!
