White Gold Wedding Band Lost in the Dry Sand, Found and Returned Myrtle Beach SC

This adventure started at 9:30 am on Memorial Day, 2026 when I received a text from Maureen saying, “Hi, is this the ring finder gentleman? She went on to say, “I apologize so much, I know it’s a holiday, but I was told the sooner I try to get help finding it the better.  We were in front of the Carolinian Beach Resort on 25th Ave in Myrtle Beach with some friends yesterday and I lost my wedding band. It’s just a straight band with 5 diamonds across. It was given to me by my husband by his mom to give to me and I’m just devastated. I’ve been out with my dad’s metal detector once, and we are going to try and go out with it again today. Do you think there’s any chance in a million of finding it?” I immediately called the number, and it went to voice mail, so I text her to call me. When she called, I asked her if she could meet me and told her I could be there in about 30-40 minutes. She agreed, and I told her I was on my way.

When I got there, I texted her and she responded their GPS said they were about 16 minutes out. I asked her if she could give me a location on the beach with some landmarks, which she did. Luckily the beach wasn’t crowded yet, but there was a family just getting ready to set up their spot and it was very close to where I needed to search. I explained what I was doing and asked nicely if I could check their area really quick. They agreed and I quickly went over the area and got a solid 26 on the VDI (visual display indicator). Well, the 26 told me the target was in the silver range. This was way outside the single digits I expected for a white gold wedding band, which was what Maureen’s wedding band was. I dug the target and found a ring, it was nice looking, but one of the cheap rings people buy at the beach shops for $10 bucks. I thanked the family and waited for Maureen, her husband Miguel and their children.

Maureen and her family showed up a short time later and met me on the beach. Maureen walked to the south side of the area where they had been sitting. She said that she had taken her rings off and put them under the strap of her swimming suit top to put sunscreen on her and the kids. After she was done, her engagement ring was there but the wedding band had fallen out. I turned the Equinox 800 back on and started a north/south grid. Within just a few minutes, I got a booming 6 on the VDI, Bingo!! This was exactly what I was expecting for her white gold ring. Took a scoop of sand, shook out the sand and saw her ring in the bottom of the scoop. I held the scoop out to her and let her pull her treasure out. She was so excited, and some tears started to flow. Perfect ending and another chapter to add to her ring story.

Silver Ring Lost in Bushes, Found and Returned Little River, SC

About 2-3 weeks ago the next-door neighbor Jim, knocked on the door. He said that Taylor, a friend of his daughter, had lost a special silver ring in the yard. I grabbed my Equinox 800 out of the garage and made my way next door. Taylor was out there, and I asked her what happened. She explained that as she was walking to her car, she was running into spiders hanging down out of the tree. As she was swinging at the spiders to get them out of the way, her ring flew off her finger. I turned on the detector and searched the front yard with no luck. Unfortunately, there was a bush that was maybe 5 feet tall and very thick right in the line of fire. I searched under, over and behind the bush the best that I could and still couldn’t find it.

Well, I got busy, and it slipped my mind until I was standing in my driveway, and it hit me. I grabbed my pin pointer and set the detecting distance to about 3 inches. I went over to the bush, sat on the ground and started reaching as far as I could under the bush. About a quarter of the way around the bush, I stuck the pin pointer under the bush and got a solid tone. Wasn’t sure what I hit but it was metal. I reached up under the bush, felt around and felt her ring. Just as I found it, the neighbor, Jim pulled into his driveway. He called Taylor and gave her the good news. She was excited and said she thought the ring was gone for good. I gave Jim the ring and am waiting for Taylor to pick it up and get a picture of her smile.

Sentimental Silver Ring Lost in the Dry Sand, Found and Returned Ocean Isle Beach NC

I got a call about 2:30 pm from an Indiana phone number which could only mean one thing a “Lost Item!” When I answered the phone, Joni, the young lady on the other end said, “my friend lost her ring, can you help?” For some reason I thought she said earring, so I needed details. The biggest question, was it lost in the dry or wet sand, or in the water? She said they were playing volleyball and it came off. Again, I asked just to confirm it was in the dry sand. She said yes. I told her I could be there in about 45 minutes. She was talking to someone in the background and turned back to me and said ok. Still thinking I was looking for an earring I grabbed my Gold Bug detector as well as the Equinox 800 and hit the road.

When I got to the beach and walked off the boardwalk, Gracie came walking up to me. She introduced herself, saying she was the one who had lost the “ring.” Ok, it was a ring I was looking for. Unfortunately, I left my sand scoop in the car figuring it would be of little use with an earring. Gracie walked over to the far side of the court and showed me where she had been standing and how she had hit the ball. She then moved about three quarters left on the court and showed me where a friend had found her identical gold ring in the sand. I started a grid search from where she had been standing and covered that side of the court with no luck. I then moved to the opposite side of the court and searched that entire area and still no ring. It had to be somewhere, so I started a cross grid. When I got to the end of the court, I did about 4 more grid lines in the out of bounds area. I got a strong hit and was confident it was the ring. Without my scoop, I had to get down in the sand and start feeling through the sand for the ring. It took a couple of seconds, but I found it. Gracie was so excited and happy. She shared that her mother bought her that ring when she graduated from the 8th grade, and she’s worn it ever since. So happy to get the ring back to her and continue its story.

Man’s Tungsten Wedding Band Lost in the Sand, Found and Returned North Myrtle Beach, SC

I received a call from Angel saying her brother-in-law, Lee, had lost his wedding band in the sand. She said that he knew exactly where it was and it was above the high tide mark. Perfect! She also stated they had looked for quite a while with no luck.  I got the location from her and told her I’d be there in about 30 minutes, I was just sitting down to dinner.

I finished dinner, grabbed my detector, and text Angel  I was on my way. We had been having heavy storms all day, and it was still raining when I pulled into the parking lot. Angel, her husband, Kiel and Lee were standing in a parking garage out of the rain when Angel hollowed “Jim.” The rain was getting harder as we walked out on the beach. Lee walked ahead of us, and made his way across the top of the beach and starting pacing off steps seaward to where he lost his ring. He stopped and said, “Right here is where I was using my hands to dig a hole with my son. I was throwing the sand out in this direction.”  I turned my Equinox on, took a couple of steps and hit a target. Its VDI wasn’t what I was looking for so I passed over it. I took two steps and turned around and went back to the target. I’ve put a bigger coil on this machine and have found my VDI numbers are a little higher than they are with the standard coil. It took about 3 or 4 scoops of sand to get the target out. Evidently, when Lee was filling the hole back up, he buried his ring. I spread the scooped sand out and didn’t see anything. I ran the sand through my fingers and spotted his sand filled ring on the ground. I picked it and gently tossed it his way. His shock was apparent. Huge smiles from everyone. Lee told me that yesterday was he and his bride’s 1 year anniversary.
