David texted me a few days ago to tell me that he had lost his wedding band earlier that day while playing with his dogs on Pet Beach at Honeymoon Island State Park. David said he had only been married four days when this happened! He also told me that he had heard about me on a local Facebook discussion page called Dunedin Chat. We set up a search for the next morning to begin just after the park opened.

The next morning David explained to me that his wife Nicole had fortunately taken a photo of him on the beach where she could still see the ring on his finger but then later filmed a short video of David running with their dogs a little further down the beach where it appeared that the ring was not on his finger. David also admitted that the wedding band was slightly too large for his finger (and Nicole told him he needed to have it resized) so it probably slipped off while he was running. David then directed me to area of wet sand where he thought it most likely he had lost his ring and I began a grid search. After a couple of hours with nothing but beer caps, pull tabs, a few coins and some fishing weights to show for my efforts, I expanded the search area closer to the water but again, no luck. I then expanded the search area closer to the dune line but found nothing but coins and beach trash. After over four hours of searching, we decided we needed to take a break so I told David I would do a second sweep of the first area I detected as we headed towards the beach access. A few minutes later, I detected a target that not only I thought was a lower number than I was looking for on my Equinox 600 but also was the same number for the numerous pull tabs I had already dug. On a search like this, you dig everything and sure enough after one scoop I had recovered a ring! At first I did not think that it looked like the picture of the ring that David had sent me but after I cleaned off the wet sand and David overcame his initial shock he said “I can’t believe it, you found my ring!” I was still a little shocked myself even though I had told David that I had recovered another ring after a four hour search and while leaving the beach to take a break! The other people on the beach near our search area were just as happy as we were. David let Nicole know that the ring was safely back on his finger once again.

David and Nicole, thank you for contacting the Dunedin Ring Finder and trusting me to find David’s wedding band. Also, thank you for the generous reward and the kind words in your testimonial. I wish you many years of happy marriage!

I received a call from Miti who was referred to me through the Ring Finders website by a local metal detector store owner. She explained to me that her mother who was visiting from India was throwing some food to a deer who had approached a fence that separated Miti’s yard from the adjacent woods when her beautiful gold ring flew from her finger into the high weeds and brush. Miti’s husband Rachit met me when I arrived and showed me the area where they believe the ring had landed which was within about five feet of the fence. I crossed over the short wire fence and began to press my detector coil down into the thick weeds because it was very difficult to swing it back and forth. After about ten minutes of searching I rang up a 16-17 on my Equinox 600 which was within the range I was looking for, pushed the tall weeds aside with my gloved hand, and uncovered the beautiful gold ring! I held the ring up for Rachit to see and he had a big smile on his face. After I took several photos of the ring where I found it, I returned the ring to Rachit who in turn gave it to Miti. As Miti’s mother had returned to India the day before without her precious ring, this was a very emotional return so I simply took a photo of the ring on Miti’s hand and respected their right to privacy.

Miti and Rachit, thank you for contacting the Dunedin Ring Finder and trusting me to return this beautiful ring to you. Thank you for the generous reward as well!

Mike was playing football with his son in a nearby park as it was getting dark. As he snapped the ball to his son for a punt, he felt his loose tungsten wedding band fly off of his finger into the grass. Mike and his son searched for a while but they were unable to locate the ring. As Mike is a neighbor of mine and his wife Julie reminded him of the service I provide, he drove his golf cart to my house and told me what happened. We returned to the park and searched for about an hour after dark with no luck. I returned early the next morning and gradually extended the search area but was again unable to locate the band. I had a beach hunt scheduled with a detecting buddy of mine Jim Facinelli later that morning so Jim and I returned to the park early in the afternoon to search for the ring again. After about 45 minutes, I found a ring in the grass but it was a stainless steel spinner ring rather than Mike’s tungsten band. Five minutes later and within 10 feet of the first ring I located the band as Jim was close to detecting it himself!

Mike, thank you for trusting me to find your wedding band and Jim, thank you for your assistance in the search!

Jim was in his back yard tossing a large plastic exercise ball in the air when he felt his large 24k gold wedding band fly off his finger. Jim searched the yard for the ring until dusk but was unable to locate it. He later ordered a used metal detector online that he would use to search for the ring and then give to his son but then decided to try another route. Jim googled “find my lost ring”, found the Ring Finders website and then the Dunedin Ring Finder. Jim called me the following morning and we set up a search in the relatively small but grassy back yard. After I arrived, I asked Jim to show me exactly where he was standing when he was tossing the ball and to demonstrate how he was doing it. I asked him if he thought it possible that the ring flew off over his head behind him and he said it was. I then began my grid searching in that area which was also near a utility shed. As it turned out, I began my search only about three feet from where I found the ring! In less than five minutes and after a couple of photos, Jim’s wedding band was back on his finger. Jim, thank you for contacting the Dunedin Ring Finder and trusting me to find your ring. And thank you for the generous reward!

Samantha along with her husband, daughter and two dogs were visiting Honeymoon Island State Park from the Gainesville area about three hours away where they had recently moved from New Hampshire. In the process of throwing a rock in the water for her dogs to chase after, both Samantha’s engagement ring and wedding band flew off of her finger into the water. Fortunately she was able to recover the engagement ring just a few feet ahead at the edge of the water but the white gold with diamonds band flew further out into almost knee deep water. After a frantic search in near dark conditions with the park ready to close, Samantha and her family could not find the band. Another person on the beach at the time suggested to Samantha to reach out to me and after finding me through the Ring Finders page she messaged me on the way home that night. She provided enough information about the location and tide time of loss that I was able to begin the search the next morning.  I sent Samantha photos of the beach area and she marked them up to help better define the location of loss so I began grid searching the water. I searched for a few hours in the morning and several in the afternoon until a storm ran me off but I found only a couple of pairs of sunglasses, a toy plane, fishing weights, several coins and some beach trash. Even though I knew I was looking for white gold, I dig every target that is just several inches deep. I messaged Samantha and told her I would be back out searching the next morning with Jim, a fellow detectorist who I had met on the beach during a previous search and recovery. After a 45 minute search the next morning with me on one end of the search area and Jim on the other, I hit a target that gave me a promising 5-6 on the VDI of my Equinox 600 in about knee deep water and after a couple of scoops I had recovered Samantha’s wedding band! I messaged Samantha with several photos and told her that her prayers had been answered. Samantha and her family made it back to Honeymoon Island a few days later and I met them there to return the wedding band. Samantha, thank you for contacting me and trusting me to recover your ring. And thank you for the beautiful reward! Good luck to you with your business ventures (www.woofensniffer.com) in Florida.

Kelly messaged me through my Dunedin Ring Finder page after someone referred me from a local discussion page called Palm Harbor Happenings. Earlier that day she and her husband were throwing a football at the beach  when Kelly’s large gold ring given to her by her grandmother flew off her hand into the water. I met Kelly on site the following day at approximately the same tide time and she showed me the area fairly close to a rock breakwater where she thought the ring may have landed. At the time the water was knee to waist deep. I grid searched for a couple of hours while Kelly looked on but only recovered a few coins and some beach trash. Kelly had to go to work so I searched an hour longer but  no luck. I left the beach and returned at low tide later in the day but only recovered a few more coins, fishing weights and a costume jewelry earring. After a long day of searching including around the breakwater, I told Kelly I would return the next day and retrace my steps in the area she had initially pointed out. Late the next afternoon I had been searching for about an hour when I got a steady 9 VDI on the Equinox 600. After a couple of scoops I pulled Kelly’s beautiful ring out of the water! She was ecstatic (followed by seven exclamation points)! I returned this beautiful ring to her the next morning. Kelly, thank you for contacting me and trusting the Dunedin Ring Finder to return your grandmother’s ring to you. And thank you for the generous reward!

Dana posted on several local Facebook discussion pages that she had lost her ring in her yard and needed to borrow a metal detector. Thankfully she was referred to me from a member of one of the groups who gave me another referral a few months ago. Dana contacted me and said that she was certain that she had lost her silver, blue diamond ring while mowing the grass and pulling weeds. As it turns out, Dana lived only about two minutes from me! We set up a search that same day and I began by checking some piles of pulled weeds in the front yard. I then moved to the back yard and began the gridding process using Dana’s mowing pattern. No luck in the back so we proceeded to the side yard and then to the front where she finished mowing. Dana was beginning to look discouraged because she was certain that the ring had slipped off her finger in the back yard and there was only a small patch of thick grass in the front yard left to be searched. Dana had followed me the entire time but went into the house for a moment to speak to her husband Will. Checking the last area, I hit that solid 28-29 I was looking for on my Nox 600 and immediately saw the ring. At the same time, Dana and Will came out of the house and I told them that I had found something they needed to see. You Ring Finders know what happens from that point on! Dana and Will, thank you for contacting me and trusting me to find Dana’s ring. And thank you for the generous reward!

I received a call from Sandra who had found me through a Google search. She and her husband Charlie have a home that backs up to a small lake and in mid February, Charlie was throwing some feed out for the lake birds when his class ring flew from his finger into the edge of the lake. This class ring was a replacement for one he had lost years before. Charlie had searched the area with a rake, pulling through through the muck of the shallow water and then with a metal detector purchased from Harbor Freight as the lake water receded over the next several months due to relatively dry conditions. When I arrived at the location, Charlie showed me where the lake level had dropped about eight feet or so and where he thought his ring had landed was now on dry land as opposed to in several feet of water. I showed Charlie the equipment I was using and then scanned my class ring to give him an idea about the target ID reading I was looking for. After gridding for only about five minutes, I hit the target number I was looking for, dug a few inches down with my knife and recovered Charlie’s ring! I think he was really surprised that it had been that easy to locate but the recovery was made much easier by the fact that it was a very small search area in a secured location and not under water.

Charlie and Sandra, thank you for trusting me to recover Charlie’s class ring and thank you for your generous reward! God bless!

I was relaxing Saturday morning after a couple of unsuccessful searches the previous two days including a wedding band in a sewer line trench and an old septic tank cap on a wooded lot. My wife showed me a story from the local Dunedin Discussions Facebook group where a member named Debbie posted about her daughter losing a silver ring on the Dunedin Causeway beach the previous day. I also received a pm from another member of the group letting me know about the loss. I immediately posted and sent a pm to Debbie informing her of my services. Because Debbie had given a somewhat detailed description of the loss location on her post, I decided to drive immediately to the location to begin a search before other metal detectorists might scan the area. Not long after I began my search, I received a map pin of the precise location as well as a perspective photo of several family members metal detecting the loss area the previous evening. I worked my way to the given location and searched for a couple of hours. I knew I was searching in the right location as it was confirmed by Donald Murphy (“Murph”, pictured below) as he had seen the family searching the previous evening and he was back at this same spot the next day. I was able to dig a dozen quarters and a half dozen dimes but no silver ring. I went home for a break and returned several hours later at low tide. By that time, the receding tide exposed some tire tracks where Murph said the family was searching the day before. After about an hour, my Equinox registered a strong silver signal (29) at 2 to 4 inches and I dug the silver Gucci ring out of the wet sand with my scoop. I showed it to Murph and he was as excited as the owner was going to be. After I contacted Debbie with the good news, I met her daughter Opal and boyfriend James to make the return. Opal said she lost it while throwing a ball and it was a special ring given to her by her brother. Thanks to all for trusting me to look for your precious ring and thank you for the generous reward! God bless you all!
