*** Dave’s friend from Australia was visiting him in San Clemente at Riviera Beach. At the end of the day he realized his white gold wedding band was missing. He wasn’t sure if the loss happened at the beach, but he discovered it missing 20 minutes after leaving the beach.

The next day I responded to Dave’s call for help. He showed me a large area where they had been the day before. He had to leave to his work, I would not need any more directions. The beach only had three people on the towel line, so I cleared the major part of the towel line before more beach goers sat on the potential area of the loss. After that I concentrated on the rest of the sand leading off the beach.

After about 1-1/2 hours, I had cleared all the area except where the three people were sitting. Then I saw them pack up to leave the beach. A couple minutes later I had the missing ring in my sand scoop. The only people on the beach that morning were sitting on the lost ring.

Next thing I did was call Dave so we could arrange to meet near his work place to return the ring. Dave would surprise his friend when he returns from a side trip to the east coast.

Family Crest Signet Ring Lost at Santa Monica or Venice Beach California

***  I was asked to help Coner to find his lost gold family crest ring in the sand at a Santa Monica Beach. He is an avid rugby player and has weekly beach rugby  tournaments near home.

I met him on the beach in Santa Monica. He showed me an area that the ring could be. Coner said he normally puts his watch and ring in his shoe that are not worn while playing. After the game he only had the watch in the shoe. He believed it was possible that he didn’t remove his ring before playing the game. I searched the whole area and could not find the ring.

A week later Coner called, telling me that he was reviewing videos of a practice he did a few days before the tournament. The video showed the ring on his finger. It actually showed the ring missing after he had passed the rugby ball. The video actually showed a black spot in the air that could be the ring.

I agreed to meet Coner at Venice beach, a mile from the original location. He sent me the video clip which made me feel we had a chance to find his ring. At least we could grid search the area to prove it wasn’t there.

This turned out to be worth the two trips across town. The Gold Ring was still in the sand after lost for more than a week. This search was much shorter than the first search because the video had a lifeguard tower 30 or 40 ft. from where the ring came off. Landmarks and videos do help to make searches successful.

……………………………………………………

Many Searches are unique. It’s important to ask the right questions when someone asks for help. Even though they are positive what and where the loss happened, they may not put you in the location of the loss.

First unsuccessful search was a mile from where the ring was eventually found a week later after Coner’s friend had reviewed the rugby practice video and he called me to get my opinion.

Small Diamond Stud Earring Lost in the Sand, Newport Beach, CA. ..a Miracle Recovery

*** Margret dropped both pieces of her diamond stud earring in the sand. While on the sand at Newport Beach, Margret noticed she had not taken her diamond stud earrings off before coming to the beach. When she removed them from her ear, she dropped one set in the sand as she attempted to put the backing on the shank. Both the stud and the backing disappeared separately in the sand.

When she called me, I told her that some small gold stud earrings may not be detectable with most metal detectors. If it was not too small, I have the best equipment to find small gold. I don’t like to give false hope.

I met her on the beach soon after talking to her. I brought two different detectors incase one  detector could not pick up a signal from the one earring she still had. That was a good move, because my high frequency detector struggled to get a decent signal. My multi-frequency detector did a little bit better with the backing giving the best signal. My back up would be sifting the sand with a small gauge sifter that gold prospectors use to classify gravel.

Long story short, the backing was found with the Minelab Manticore metal detector and the stud was found visually within 12 inches of the earring backing. I’m glad I didn’t have to resort to sifting that 8ft.x 8ft. area.

Margret was very happy to have her favorite sentimental earring back. I’m sure they don’t know how lucky we were to find this earring. Most people don’t understand how difficult it is to operate a metal detector and metal detectors have limits. Especially small items.

**Loran had been sitting in her beach chair at Newport Beach when she dropped her diamond engagement ring in the sand. She was devastated because she has only had the ring for 5 months. Her fiancé , Barry had borrowed a beginner level metal detector and was not able to find the ring.

They called me after finding my contact information  on line with a Google search. I met them within 30 minutes and it was a successful recovery. Timing is important with these losses on the beach towel line as the beach cleaning machines maintain this area daily. Also entry level metal detectors do not work well with small items in the mineralized beach sand.

On my local beaches, I have to respond to calls as soon as possible.   Rings lost in back yards or private property can be recovered days or years later. The other day I found a diamond ring in a sofa that was lost 11 years ago.

Cellphone Lost on the Beach Saved from Beach Cleaning Machine .. Newport Beach, CA.

If you have lost something on the beach, timing is important. “ Call or text Stan the Metal Detector Man for prompt response.. 1-949-500-2136

*** Phil called me early in the morning. He had lost his cellphone the night before in the sand. When he told me about the location of the loss my heart sank. The beaches in Newport are machine sifted almost daily. Especially the towel line where most the beach goers congregate.

I explained that our chances of finding it may be difficult because so much time had passed since the loss.  I was willing to give it a try if he could meet me at the location.

This time we were lucky. The beach king sifting machine had already passed through this section of the beach.  For some reason the tractor pulling the machine had swerved around a small section of the towel line  and it missed the cellphone. Amazing story that I could not believe.

Phil showed up a few minutes after I found the phone with my Minelab Manticore metal detector. The tractor and sifter tracks were still freshly visible in the sand. He was able to witness how close the sifting machine had missed his cellphone.

Another example that you can’t find it , if you don’t try.

*** James called me from Cresent Bay in Laguna Beach , CA. He was with his family and had lost his white gold wedding band. It’s located less than six miles from my home, so I was able to meet James on the beach soon after talking to him.

He told me that he believed the ring had come off his finger somewhere between their beach towels or in the water where he had been teaching his daughter to boogie board. He also told me it was identifiable because it had his fingerprint engraved inside the band.

An hour after grid searching the whole area, the ring did not show. We discussed a few more possibilities, when he remembered that he had gone 100 yards south to skim board away from the swimmers.

I headed to that area knowing that the tide had already fallen low enough to have a good chance to find the ring, if it was there. “Boom” 10 minutes later James’ ring was in my scoop. I’m glad we took the time to discuss where else he had been as he had not told me of his other activities. It was a great day at a beautiful  beach with an awesome family and my pleasure to help them.
