Lost necklace in the lagoon, Lavallette NJ, Recovered by Edward Trapper, NJ Ring Finder
I received a call from AnnMarie about some items that were accidentally dumped into her lagoon. She had seen one of my stories about a water recovery, and figured it was worth giving me a call. She explained what had happened. Over 2 months prior her daughter was at the beach, and had placed her jewelry in her beach bag for safe keeping while she went into the water. At the end of the day, she placed her beach items in the back yard by the deck, and went inside the house. AnnMarie figured she would help and accidentally dumped her necklaces into the lagoon while dumping the sand out of the beach bag. At that point she figured they were gone, until she saw my post detailing a very similar recovery. I knew they were right up against the bulkhead after she explained in detail exactly what she had done. We basically decided to do the recovery but didn’t decide when, as I am in her area quite often. Ann sent me the address an told me it would be fine to go, even though they would not be home. I had some time a few days later, and swung by to look. Conditions were perfect, and about 35 min into the search I had both necklaces. She had no idea that I had gone and I decided to snap a few pics and shoot them over to her. AnnMarie was shocked to say the least, we made arrangements to mail them back to her, and in just a few days they were back for safe keeping. Thank you again, so glad I was able to help.
Amanda sent me a text later in the evening, asking about my services. Amanda and her husband Dave were at the beach, where she had removed her NJ State Trooper medallion necklace and placed it in the beach bag for safe keeping. She was extremely heartbroken, as she wore this every single day for over 20 plus years. After they returned home it was missing, so they backtracked every step with no luck. They also raked the entire area of the beach where they had set up their chairs and towels for the day. The only possible thing that could have happened was it came out during the day when Dave removed the car keys, and mistakenly fell into the sand. Amanda didn’t want me to come out late at night, but no way would I leave the necklace sit in the sand over night, and possibly disappear with the tide, or risk it being found by an suspecting beach comber. I met Dave at the beach within 30 min. and had Amanda’s necklace in the scoop just a short while later. Dave was in total disbelief I found it so fast, especially after they had done an extensive search prior to my arrival.
Dominick sent me a message asking if I would be able to recover his bracelet that slipped off his wrist into the lagoon. He was concerned because it was already in there for about 2 days, and I told him that is no problem, it could be 2 years, providing the area had not been disturbed. With that he said he had already tried diving down with a snorkel, using a clam rake, and a few other methods, including a net with a mesh bag. The next day I was in his area and decided to swing by, before agreeing to take on the task. All looked good for the recovery, and told him we would try for the next day or so. Once I got started, I searched one area that had many signals, but one in particular that sounded, SWEET, so that’s the one I concentrated on. After about 20 min. the bracelet was in my scoop, working blind, in a deep lagoon, isn’t the an easy task. I received a call from Bill about his wedding ring lost in the sand down in Holgate, on LBI. He was on the beach early that day with his wife, and decided to leave due to the fact the wind was blowing about 30 knots, which made it very unpleasant. They have been married for 44 years, so this ring was extremely sentimental needless to say. We arranged to meet later that day where he was staying at Hurleys in Holgate. Bill had explained every detail leading up to the ring being lost, as we walked up. The beach is extremely narrow in this area, and he was fairly certain where he was set up, especially with flags and a lifeguard chair right where they were. I searched the first spot and the ring wasn’t there. We tried another spot and nothing again. This isn’t a spot where someone would get confused as to the location, which had us both totally bewildered. Then I searched the steep path back to the h
I was at a family party when I got a call from Sal. He was on the beach in Surf City when his wedding ring fell into the sand and disappeared. We agreed to meet ASAP as the party was coming to an end. I arrived on the beach and we headed out to the location. After clearing the area they had believed it was in I came up empty handed. We searched another spot to the north a bit and came up empty handed again. Another family member had arrived in the meantime and he was to the south pointing to a totally different location. I went over to speak with him and he was positive of the area they were in. Just a few swings later and the ring was in my scoop. Once again, it’s just a matter of finding the right area to search. Many times the first few spots are not the right ones. After the beach clears off its much harder to find the exact location so remember, mark the spot with google maps on your cell phone and call ASAP.
Alena called and left a message that she lost her necklace in the sand on LBI, and wondered if I would be able to help find it. After going over some of the details we arranged to meet on the dune walkover. While walking down to the spot she refreshed my memory on a few details and I began to search in the area she had marked out earlier. That spot came up empty so we moved south and did and area right next to the original spot, and no luck there either. Another friend had just arrived and was point to the sand, showing her she buggy wheels heading north just a few feet from her original location. With that said I made 2 paths and found the necklace about 5” down in the soft sugar sand. The key to successful recoveries is getting back to the correct location many hours or even days later. 
I was on the beach in LBI doing a recovery for a lady that had lost a ring the night before, when Anthony came walking over. He asked if I was able to help him. He lost his necklace in the sand just a few hours earlier. I told him I would be over as soon as I was finished, and asked if he could mark out the area prior to me getting there. When I got there he explained exactly what had happened, so I began looking in the area he had placed his beach cart and tackle box. Not long after, I got a nice sharp tone that I suspected would be his necklace, and sure enough it was, not far away from where he had set up for a day of fishing. Needless to say Anthony was totally relieve to have it back in his possession.
