Lost Platinum and Gold Wedding Ring Malibu, CA…Found.

I was having breakfast this morning when I received a call from Pam. She asked if could help her find her husband’s wedding band. They were having a party Friday July 3rd in their backyard when her husband wanted to go for an ocean swim (their property backs up right to ocean). Their backyard is set up like a beach surrounded by a deck with lots of beach sand, beach chairs, and even beach balls. Pam’s husband put all of his important belongings including his ring  into his hat on a table on the deck so he would not lose them. What happened next was that Pam moved the hat, not realizing the items were inside, and flung them into their beach backyard. They had done some serious searching. I could see the lines in the sand showing how they had dragged the sand for the ring, but with no results. I am glad they found me, as I was free to go today and search for them.

When I got there, as I said I could see the drag marks in the sand, and Pam explained to whole loss process to me. It is so good to have someone know exactly what happened, and remember how the loss took place, to make it easier to help them. I got my detector ready, and in about 20 seconds had the ring in my scoop. It was then Pam and I talked about my time with The Ring Finders. We were going through my book of smiles when she offered up that they had been married for 3 years, and today was their anniversary; HOW GREAT IS THAT!? What a great day. What a great smile.

Lost Ring at Playa Del Rey Beach, CA…Found.

We had just gotten home about 10:00 PM from watching a great fireworks show on the Fourth of July, when I checked my messages, and saw that I had received a call from Ryan. I called back, and he told me how he was playing volleyball at the beach, and when ready to leave realized his ring was missing. This ring had a lot of sentimental value to him, because he had received it from his stepfather who had passed away. He had played both sides of the court, and also had been in an area outside the court where the loss may have occurred. Knowing the critical issue of time we arranged to meet right after we hung up. I arrived at the spot about 12:30 AM, and Ryan showed me the area. I began my search, and about 5 minutes into it I heard a thump, and then a BOOM right over my head. Someone had shot off a mortar not 60 feet from where I was searching. Not expecting that I jumped, but as soon as I realized it was some late partying I was good with the fireworks that kept coming. I searched the whole area for a little more than an hour getting a few coins , but without hearing the ring. I told Ryan I might come back and try again, but he seemed a bit resigned to fact that he might not see it again.

It wasn’t until I got home I realized why I was not able to find his ring when I read his description of the ring. Although I was using a state of the art multi-frequency VLF machine, it was not going to hit on a broken ring, if it would hear it at all. Ryan’s description said the ring had an opening, when I saw that, I knew I was going to use my PI machine and go back the next day. After I found a ring for Miguel in Santa Monica, I headed back over to Playa Del Rey to look again for Ryan’s ring. I had to wait until a group of people were finished playing on the court to start my search. It then took me about 5 minutes to find his ring. I then sent a text message with only the picture of the ring above, no words. The text I received back from him was YES!!! He was amazed that someone he did not know would go back and look for his ring. It was great to see his joy.

Lost Wedding Ring at Santa Monica Beach, CA…Found.

I received a call from Miguel July 5th asking if I would be able to help him find his wedding ring. We arranged to meet in the afternoon at the location of the loss. When I arrived Miguel took me to the site, which was a volleyball court. I then proceeded to ask how the ring was lost. He knew exactly where he was when the ring came off. He felt it come off, but did not see where it landed. He explained how all of his friends began a thorough search of the area he believed the ring to fly into with no results, he then found me on TheRingFinders.com.

I asked Miguel to show me what he did to cause the ring to come off, so he reenacted  the hit to the ball. I noticed that his hands moved in such a way to possibly cause the ring to go off in a different direction, but started my search where he thought it was. After searching the area he showed me, I started my search in the area I envisioned the ring to fly into, and in about 2 minutes more, “BANG”, my earphones rang out with the sound I was anticipating. I held his ring up, and his joy seemed overwhelming. Miguel had just gotten married in April, and he explained how he felt burdened because of the loss, also his wife had taken it very hard. Well I got to experience Miguel’s smile, but I wish I was there when he went back to his wife, because he was going to hold off telling her until he got home. I would have loved to see her smile as well. Wonderful day.

Ring Lost in Sand .. Venice Beach, CA. .. Found

Monday .. 6-22-15

Early Monday morning Kayley met with some friends for about an hour on the beach. She set her ring on her sandals when they walked to the water. On the way back to her house she realized her ring must have fallen into the sand. Returning to the place she was sitting, she could not find the ring.
Kayley called me and I was able to meet her about 12 noon. When I walked out on the beach I could see that the beach rake had passed over the area where she said she was sitting. My expectations for a easy recovery were not very positive until she told me that the rake machine had already passed before sitting on the beach.
I set up a grid search. After about a half hour with no success I started to cross grid the location. Kayley was sitting on the sand watching with hope that the next time I dug a target it would be her ring.
Then a young guy, that was part of a surfing school, walked up to Kayley. He wanted to know what we were looking for? She told him about her lost ring and to her surprise he had found it. He returned it to her. I believe that because we set up the search area, we attracted the attention of people around us. The most important thing was that Kayley’s ring was back on he finger where it belongs. She was also able to get to a 2pm yoga class that she was teaching. I call that “Good timing Luck”

Lost Key at Santa Monica Beach, CA…Found.

I received a call yesterday from Kelly, saying she had lost her car key at the beach. I told her I would be there in an hour, and headed out. When I got to the site Kelly and her friend Eric showed me the general area where they thought the key had been lost. At that time I began to ask them questions, going through a logical progression in order to narrow down the search area. Because searching the right way with a metal detector is a very slow and methodical process, it is important for us to probe as much as possible to see if we can pinpoint the search area. Sometimes the person may have thought it was lost in one place, but as I question, I can figure that it was in another area, so questioning is a very important part of our searches. I am thankful Kelly and her friend were patient with me.

After my questioning, I figured out that it was under the parkour bars that Eric had been using, and it took all but about 3 minutes of searching to find the key. They were happy, because they had a way to go to get home, and everything was in the car. I am so glad to have met them, and made their day.

Lost Wedding Ring at Santa Monica Beach, CA…Found.

I received a call from Geno this morning, asking if I would be able to help him find his wedding ring. He had been to the beach the day before, and wanting to go into the water he wisely took his ring off and wrapped it in his shirt before he went in. The problem occurred when he was ready to leave, and he forgot he had placed his ring in the shirt. He picked up his shirt, and the ring was gone. Seeing that a day had gone by, I had to ask some questions in order to evaluate the possibilities of finding his ring. By the time I finished asking my probing questions, I felt there was a pretty good chance of recovery, but it had to be today.

We scheduled to meet at 5:00 PM, so Geno could show me the area of the loss. When we met up, I asked how he had found me, and he told me that a friend of his, had a friend Eugene, who I had found his wife’s rings two weeks prior, that recommended me to him. He took me out to the spot that he was sure the loss took place, so I readied my equipment, and began my search. In about 20 seconds, I heard that unmistakable sound of gold in my ears, and began to dig. A couple of scoops later Geno’s ring was bouncing around in my scoop. I pulled it out and asked him if this was what we were looking for, at which time with exuberance, and some disbelief he acknowledged the ring to be his, identifying the inscriptions inside. This recovery happened so fast because Geno remembered the exact location, and did not let too much time expire before contacting someone to help him; those are important things to remember when a loss occurs.

What a pleasure it is to see joy returned. What a great day it was today.

Lost Platinum Wedding and Engagement Rings at Paradise Cove, Malibu, CA…Found.

We have been having some unseasonably warm summer-like days here in Southern California insomuch that the beaches are crowded. I even spent the morning having an early surf session. I was relaxing in the early evening about 5:20 PM when I received a call from Eugene. He told me how his wife had lost her wedding ring at the beach in the sand, and wondered if I would be willing to come and look for it.

After he told me where it happened I told him it would take me about two hours to drive there. I knew I had to go right away, because the sooner you detect a loss the better. I gathered my equipment and got on my way. Fortunately traffic was light for Los Angeles, so the trip went smooth, and I arrived about 7:30 PM. Eugene met me at the beach, and showed me the area they suspected the ring to be in. It was then that his Wife JuAnne mentioned that it was two rings that were lost, both her engagement ring and wedding band. She told me she had taken them off to apply sunscreen, and put them in her shorts pocket, but for some reason later she shook the shorts, and believed that was when they were lost.

I began my search in the area, and dug up a few surprises, but not the rings. Then Eugene mentioned that it may have been over on the other side of where I was searching, so I began a new grid. It wasn’t but about 5 minutes longer until I heard the good sound of precious metal in my ears. I dug, and retrieved the engagement ring, and knew it wouldn’t be long before I had her wedding band in my scoop. Another few swings, and there it was, and joy filled the air. Their two young children were excited to see the whole operation unfolding, and were investigating everything I was doing, so they too were excited to know that there was success on the beach. Eugene and JuAnne told me they looked to buy a metal detector, but were unable to find one. I explained how it would have been hard because the different metal on the beach would have made their metal detecting very difficult. They were glad to have found The Ring Finders web directory, and I am glad also, because I believe The Ring Finders have the highest caliber people around associated with it. What great smiles!

Steve, you are an amazing human being! JuAnne wasn’t sure if she lost her rings at the beach or left them at home.  When we got home and did not find them, we were in a panic.  I began googling places to purchase a metal detector and started youtubing instructions on how to use one when i came upon theringfinders.com website.  I am naturally suspicious of anything on the internet but i came upon your name and blog on the website and read through a few of the incredible stories and decided to take a chance.  You were 2 hours away and relaxing and did not hesitate to drive out right away to help.  When you met me on the beach, a kind employee at the restaurant was helping us comb through the sand with a sifting shovel but to no avail.  After only a few minutes of searching, you pulled out some scrap metal and bottle caps and I already started to lose hope.  But then you stopped and dug out something – I heard clanking in your shovel and I saw a smile on your face and I knew you found one of the rings.  You found the engagement diamond ring I gave to JuAnne 11 years ago!!  Then you found her wedding band in minutes.  I can’t tell you how incredible that moment is when you pulled her engagement ring out of the sea of sand.  It would be so easy for someone in your position to take advantage of these type of desperate situations, but you are such an honest and generous person and i can tell that you genuinely want to help people.  Through this experience, we learned 1.) never wear jewelry to the beach 2.) there are still good people out there in the world and that is inspiring.  Big shout out to theringfinders.com network for connecting me with Super Steve!

Ring Found … Muscle Beach .. Venice, CA.

Helen is visiting Venice Beach here in Southern California from Brazil . After walking the Venice Oceanfront walkway with her son William. They stopped to watch all the people working out at the area known as Muscle Beach. Then they decided to walk out through a small walkway to the beach and watch the waves. When they got to the beach, that’s when Helen noticed her favorite ring was not on her finger. This ring was special because her husband gave it to her 15 years ago and she wears it all the time.

Helen went to a tourist information center there at the beach near the lifeguard station. She didn’t have a working cell phone, so the man at the desk helped her find TheRingFinders directory and he called me. I didn’t asked for any details but I told them I could be there in about an hour if she could meet me. She agreed to meet me at 3pm.

While I was traveling across town Helen was doing a little research. She did not know exactly when the ring fell off her finger. They had walked quite a few hours taking many photos. It was a sunny 80 degree day and some areas were full of people waking the beachfront tourist sites. Helen and her son William had taken hundreds of pictures so they went through the photos. They eliminated the first part of the day and remembered stopping to put on sunscreen in the sandy passage way to the beach. While waiting for me somebody on the beach loaned them a metal detector. They could not find the ring before I arrived.  When I met her I decided to try that passage way first.  It was only 12 feet wide and 30 feet long, full of small metallic trash. The wall along one side was reinforced with rebar making it hard to get a signal next to the wall. People were also passing through in family groups. I’ll bet probably a couple hundred people walked through this area from the time the ring was dropped. Just before going to the beach side of the bicycle path I saw an edge of the ring sticking out of the sand, just before swinging my coil over it. It had to be stepped on and kick up again, maybe a couple of times.

The most important thing was Helen was so happy to have her favorite ring back. I told her that we have a member of TheRingFinders in Brazil and other countries also. I need to thank Steve Smith another member of TheRingFinders for referring me to the people who called. It was a good search and I stayed on the beach till sunset doing more detecting for fun and exercise. I can remember at least  6 or 7 times that I’ve found other nice rings after doing a ring search. I would like to return them all but it is not possible sometimes. After all these years I look at rings I find in a whole new perspective. The sentimental value is much more important to the person that possessed it for years and the real story of the ring is only known to that person that lost it. It is important that we can help some people keep the story of their ring and all the memories that go along with it to keep going.

Wedding Ring Lost at Playa Del Rey Beach, CA… Found.

Robert called me today to see if I could help him find his ring that he had lost yesterday. He and his wife had been entertaining friends from the UK, and decided that because it was such a nice California Christmas day, that they should go to the beach. After spending some time there, Robert was shaking sand off of one of the towels when his ring went flying off of his hand and into the sand that surrounded him. He had previously dislocated his finger, which caused his knuckle to be smaller than it was when his ring was originally fitted, so off it went. I then asked him if the beach groomers had been through there since yesterday, and he said he could tell they had, wherein my heart dropped a bit, knowing how thoroughly the county cleans this beach. I committed to do the search anyway because  circumstances don’t always favor the machine. We agreed to meet, and Robert showed me the area, the smoothness of the sand confirmed what Robert had told me. It is always good when someone knows exactly where they were when the ring was lost, it doesn’t always make it easy, but it keeps us in the area, and increases our odds of a successful search. I did a grid of the area going the way in which one would have concluded the ring would have flown when leaving his finger. After about 45 minutes, I decided to change detectors because the one I was using was having a bit of trouble with all the iron in the sand. I began a grid in the opposite direction, and after about 10 feet, got a solid sound in the headphones. In went the scoop and out came this beautiful ring; Robert’s ring. All of this is going on, and Robert is watching me, or bending over and digging in areas he thought the ring might be with his 7 week old baby strapped to his chest. The baby was a great searching companion, who slept the whole time. It was great to be able to give Robert his ring back, and to see his joy back. He thought it was gone for good, but it is back where it belongs. Great day!

Lost Wedding Ring in Back Yard Northridge, CA…Found.

I received a call from Christian yesterday in the evening after he and his wife had searched for his wedding ring, lost in their back yard. I arranged to meet him today, knowing the ring was not going anywhere, being that it was his yard, which took away the immediacy of the search. Christian had been in the yard with his children, and their newly acquired rescue dog. The dog had a habit of jumping up on people, and while they were in the yard he began to jump on his children. Christian then tried to get the very powerful dog to stop. He put his hand down to push him away from his children, and the dog moved in such a way that his movement caused Christian’s ring to pop off of his hand and into the grass. He saw the direction of where the ring landed, and they searched. The problem was that there was a good thatch in the grass which made it thick, and it swallowed the ring as soon as it hit. I got to the site, and got to searching. It took a couple of passes beginning a grid to insure that the whole area would be covered, and the ring was found very close to where Christian had thought it would be. He had told me how he and his wife had gotten very emotional over the ring’s loss, so it was a great pleasure to see his joy returned when I handed his ring back to him. When I watched Christian put his ring back on, I wondered how this encounter with his dog could have made this possible, because it seemed to be very tight on his finger. I then got to meet the culprit in this loss, a sixty pound, solid muscled pit bull terrier with a sweet disposition and a lot of energy, and was glad I did not wear my ring when I pet him. I am glad to have been able to sweeten this family’s Christmas this year.
