Kathleen contacted me about her lost phone. She had lost it the day before at the beach while sitting in the sand. She had gone to the beach with her dog, and was sitting watching the waves, and when she got up, her phone came out of her pocket. It was too late when she realized it was gone. With something that big in such a high trafficked area, I don’t always have a lot of hope of a recovery after a full day of loss. Kathleen told me that the “Find My iPhone” app was telling her the phone was still there, so my hopes of a recovery were buoyed, and we arranged to meet for the search.

When I got to the beach, I met Kathleen, and she took me out to the spot where the loss occurred. She showed me where she remembered sitting, and I began my search. I covered the area without finding the phone, so she then thought she might have been sitting lower down the slope to the water. I figured the phone would have been covered by the previous high tide if lost there, and was wondering if it would have been sending a signal. I did the search down the slope, and got a good strong signal, dug, and about 4 to 6 inches down there was her phone, STILL WORKING! There had been at least 2 high tides to cover the phone, and it was still alive; amazing. Needless to say Kathleen was very happy to have her phone back, and I was happy to make her day.

Mailbox Keys Lost in Yard in Newport Beach, CA…Found and Returned.

Eron contacted me about the keys to her new mailbox that had been lost in her front yard. She and her two year old son went out to get the mail, and on the way back to the house she let her son hold the keys. When they got back into the yard, she had to attend to something, and turned from her son for a minute, and when she turned back to him she noticed the keys were gone. She asked him where they were, and he told her he put them in a hole. She searched the grass for a couple of hours looking for where the keys might have been inserted into, but there was no hole in the area he was standing.

We arranged to meet, and when I got to the house, the grass was nice and groomed, and I could see no holes at all. I began my search, up, down, up, and down again, then I got the signal. I put in my pin pointer, and there in the deep thatch were the keys. The depth of the thatch, Eron’s son perceived as a hole. She was very happy to have the keys back. She did not want her picture taken, so you get mine.:-)

Three Diamond Rings Lost at Will Rogers State Beach, CA…Found and Happily Returned.

Last Sunday I got a call from a young lady who had taken her 3 rings (2 18K, and 1 platinum) off at the beach, and placed them on her towel. When she and her friends went to leave they picked up everything and walked off, forgetting the rings were on the towel. They went back and searched desperately for her rings after realizing what had happened, but could not find them. They called me about 6:00 PM to see if I could do a search for them. I said I would be happy to, and told them when I could be there, but they decided to search some more, before having me come out. Well they did not call me out for the search until about 8:30 PM, and I left right away.

I got to the area about 9:30 PM, but was unable to get parking because the streets shut down at 10:00 PM, so I had to park about 1 mile North and walk back. I got to the area shown by the directions they had given me, and started my search; it was just me and the beach at that time of night. By 11:00 I had her rings in my hand, and was able to text her of a successful hunt. We got together yesterday for the ring return, and she was very happy to have her rings back, one of which had been her mother’s. A great hunt!

Custom Ring Lost in Yard While Gardening in Los Angeles, CA…Found and Happily Returned.

Paul called explaining that he had lost his ring while pulling weeds in the yard. With the recent rains the grass had grown rapidly along with the weeds. As he threw a clump of weeds his custom ring that he had purchased from a vendor on the streets of New York City flew off of his finger into the tall grass. He began to strip the grass down to the ground in the area he thought the ring may have landed, but was not able to find it. Thinking it may have flown farther, and down a highly vegetated hillside, he sought more professional help. Paul found me on the Ring Finders web site and called, and we arranged to meet.

When I got to Paul’s house, he showed me the area where he was working, and the hand motion that caused the loss. I noticed that the grass had been stripped down to the dirt almost, so anything like his ring would be there in sight, but I ran my coil over the whole area nun the less. Finding nothing there, I began on the hillside that started on the edge of the small yard. I worked my way down the hillside slowly searching every inch of the ground; NOTHING! I looked at Paul asking if there was anything else that could have happened, and he assured me the loss occurred exactly as he explained, so I went back up to the original area. It was then I noticed the pile of grass that Paul had removed from the area of the loss, and began my search in the pile. After a few passes, I got the signal I was looking for, moved the grass around and there it was. I held the ring up, and Paul came running over. He was so surprised that it was in the pile he had set aside, but so very happy it had been found. I know that I made his day!

I received a call from Asher today, he had lost his wedding ring while pushing his daughter on a swing in his local park. He said it had happened today, and it sounded as though he had not left the area, so everything was sounding like there would be a successful recovery. Knowing this was in a public place the emphasis is on getting there for the search as soon as possible, so I told him I would leave right away.

When I got to the park, I walked over where the swings are, and Asher met me to show me what and where the loss happened. He had actually witnessed the ring coming off of his finger and hitting the sand, so he knew where it had gone, but yet he searched for over an hour with no luck in finding it. It is really amazing how the sand will swallow up a ring or piece of jewelry to where it is impossible to find. Fortunately I use the best equipment made for such a recovery, and have the experience to make the recovery happen. Like I tell the people who call me, if it is there I will find it. One short pass, and two scoops later Asher’s ring was in my scoop. He was very happy. This ring represented 3 years of loving commitment for him, he wanted it back, and I was happy to be able to make that happen for him. Awesome day!

Wedding Ring Lost on Santa Monica Pier on Day of Couple’s 2nd Wedding Anniversary…Found Joyfully Returned.

I received a call from Souja, she had lost her wedding ring on the Santa Monica pier. She and her husband Martin are from Austria, and were in Southern California celebrating their 2nd wedding anniversary, and this was the exact day. Needless to say she was very unhappy about the loss. They were scheduled to leave the next day for Northern California for the rest of their vacation and then home. They could not imagine leaving with out her ring; they had matching rings. I let them know when I would be there, and was on my way.

When I got there Souja and Martin with their little one, met me and showed me what had happened. They had been at a food vendor on the pier when her ring slipped off of her finger. She said she watched it drop, and heard it hit the pier, but it was gone in an instant. They looked all over the pier with no success, and then surmised that it possibly slipped through the boards into the sand below, so they went below and searched some more. Martin went up and dropped some coins through the boards of the pier to see if he could find them, and was able to, but not Souja’s ring. They searched for a total of about 3 hours. They found me on The Ring Finders site and called, pretty discouraged by now. I agreed that the possibility of it having gone into the sand was better than it being up on the pier, so I began the search under the pier. I began my grid, and found a dime, a penny and a piece of trash. I was on my second pass, when I got the tone I was looking for, I dug, and in my scoop was Souja’s wedding ring. I reached in and held it out for her; they were so surprised. The pleasure of being able to help people with their lost items has not diminished a little; check out those smiles. What a great day!

Metal Access Plate Covered by Asphalt in Long Beach, CA…Found

Last week I received a call from a contractor trying to find an access plate that had been covered over by about 4 inches of asphalt in the repaving of a parking lot. He did not want to rip up a bunch of the new asphalt to find the plate. When I got there he gave me a general area for the search, and in about 15 minutes, he was able to continue his work. Another happy day.

Broken Mercedes Key Lost at Venice Beach, CA…Found and Returned.

Alfonso called, and explained how he and his friend Robert had been at the beach, and lost their car key. it was Robert’s key, and the only one he had. In fact they told me that it had broken off of the remote, and was just the key with no “handle” to grab onto. What had happened was, they were going to go in the water, so Robert placed the key in his sock, which he never did. When they left the beach after shaking the sand out of their clothes, and got back to the car, Robert realized the key was gone. It was about 5:00 PM, and the private parking garage the car was in closed at 6:00 PM, so they hurried back to find the key but to no avail. They lived a considerable distance away, so they had to rent a hotel room for the night and were going to find a locksmith in the morning to help them. After they were quoted over $600 to cut a new key, and that it would take a couple of days, and also that the parking garage manager said if the car wasn’t removed by the end of the day he would have it towed, they searched the internet, found and called me. I told them I would be there in 45 Minutes.

When I got to the beach Robert and Alfonso met up with me and took me out to the spot they had been the previous day. They showed me what they did, and where they had been sitting. I then started my search. I gridded in the direction I was first shown, and would go in the other direction when I had completed my first grid. After about 15 minutes, and a few bottle caps, pennies, and foil, I got a good signal and had the key in my scoop. I held it up to an overjoyed Robert, who now knew he was going to be able to get his car out of the parking garage, and go home. Yes needless to say he was very happy. It was great to see two happy smiling faces!

Car Key Lost at Old Muscle Beach Santa Monica, CA…Found.

I got a call from Axtlan’s mother. It seems he had been working out at the old Muscle Beach, climbing the ropes, and working on some of the other equipment, and lost his car key in the sand. It hadn’t been too long, and I wasn’t very far from there, so I told her I would come right away.

When I got there they showed me the 3 possible areas the loss could have occurred, and I got to work. I searched the first one, and no key. I then went to the second one, no key. Finally I searched the third spot, no key. I told them I would expand the search, but also asked if they had checked the nearby snack stand to see if someone might have found it and turned it in, and they hadn’t. I encouraged them to do so, and they seemed a bit apprehensive, I guess feeling the key would not have been turned over, and because it was a little out of the way, but I pressed the issue, letting them know that I would expand my search of the key in the mean time. Axtlan decided to walk over to check, and on his way over, he found the key sitting on top of a bench. Someone had found the key and placed it there hoping the owner would find it. Axtlan and his mother told me he would not have walked that way if I had not pressed the issue, and needless to say were very happy with the outcome. Always glad to help!

I woke up the other day to an email from William who explained that his wife’s wedding and engagement rings were lost in the garden of a local hotel. They had just come from a celebration, and his wife had taken off her rings and given them to William to hold, when in a moment of play he decided to toss them over his shoulder, not thinking of the ramifications of the rings going into the bushes and ground cover. They searched, but it was at night and it very hard to see. I answered his email, and he called shortly after. We decided to meet at the hotel when he had a break from his job.

When I got there, about 4:00 PM, William was already there, and he took me over to the area, and went over what had happened. I began a search with the detector, but found that there was too much metal to be able to get a good search in. I then brought out the pin pointer to do a slow grid in the shrubbery, and began from the side of the hand he thrown the rings with. As I was searching William could not believe it, he found the diamond solitaire at the edge of the shrubs on the sidewalk, in full view of anyone who would have walked by since the night before. Fortunately no one saw the ring. I then decided to focus my attention to the area he found the first ring, and worked it well with the pin pointer. After finding some bottle caps, foil, and other metallic objects, I received another signal. I pushed aside the leaves and grass, and there it was, the second ring. Anyway, needless to say, William was very grateful, and relieved to know that he could go home with the rings he had lost the night before. A lot of fun helping people get things right.
