Girls Weekend at Norris Lake

Sometimes a fun weekend can turn stressful in the blink of an eye—but with the right tools and a little persistence, a happy ending is still possible.
I received a message from Annie, who had been searching the internet trying to help her friend Kelly recover a lost ring. Kelly and a group of friends were enjoying a girls’ weekend at a lake house. They were all hanging out on the upper deck, laughing and having a great time.
At one point Kelly threw her hands up in excitement—and that’s when disaster struck.
All three of her rings flew off her fingers.
Two of the rings landed safely on the deck, but the third ring completely disappeared. After retracing what happened, they realized the ring had fallen roughly 70 feet from the upper deck down to the concrete below. The group believed it may have bounced and landed somewhere in the leaves surrounding the area.
That’s when Annie reached out to me.
When I got the call, I knew time was critical. I only had about an hour and a half before sunset, and the lake house was about a 45-minute drive away. As any metal detectorist knows, daylight can make all the difference during a search like this—especially when leaves and debris are involved.
I loaded up my gear and headed out as quickly as possible.
When I arrived, Kelly showed me where she had been sitting on the upper deck when the rings flew off. After surveying the area below, it was clear that the ring could have bounced anywhere among the leaves and debris near the concrete.
I fired up my detector and began a careful grid search of the suspected landing zone.
About 30 minutes into the search, I got the signal I was hoping for. Just under a layer of leaves near the concrete, my detector locked onto a solid target.
A quick sweep of the leaves—and there it was.
Kelly’s missing ring.
The relief and excitement from the group was immediate. What started as a stressful moment during their girls’ weekend ended with smiles, laughter, and a recovered ring.
It’s always rewarding to help turn a lost moment into a found memory.
Another successful recovery—and another reminder that it’s never too late to search for something that matters.

Diamond Engagement Ring Thrown Across a Street in Lake Elsinore, CA After an Argument – FOUND!!

I received a call from Eddie, asking if I could help find his girlfriend’s diamond engagement ring that was lost a week ago. He proceeded to tell me that he had the ring at work after they had gotten into a huge argument. He had been drinking after work, and in a fit of rage, threw the ring from the parking lot across a 2 lane street. On the far side of the street was a sandy drainage ditch.
Eddie said he and his co-workers later searched several days for the ring with no luck. He bought a metal detector and still had no luck because he didn’t know how to properly use it. That’s when he found me on The Ringfinders website.

He showed me the approximate 30 yard wide area across the street that he felt it would have landed and said that he had to leave to pick up his son. So I began my search, starting at the edge of the drainage ditch next to the road. There were large rocks along the embankment for runoff. With no luck, I started checking the sandy bottom. Within about 15 minutes I found it below the opposite embankment of the ditch.

I took a close-up picture of the ring and was about to send it in a message to Eddie when, at the same time, his boss came out asking if I had found it. I told him I had and he immediately called Eddie. You could hear Eddie yelling with excitement.

Lost Women’s Engagement Ring Found!! NRH, Texas

I received a call Tuesday morning from Ladonna February 20, 2024
She was working in her front yard cleaning out the garden and raking up leaves when she lost her gold engagement ring with a solitary diamond. I told her I would come out this afternoon and locate it for her. I arrived around 3:00 pm and she showed me the area. I video taped this search. She was watching and after about 15 minutes I found it but did not tell her. I started the camera and went over to tell her I didn’t think it was in this area, while she turned away I held out the ring, when she  turned back towards me she got the surprise and her response was priceless.  I’m so glad I made her day. Thank you Lodonna for the experience and thank you for the reward!!!

Lost Ring Orange Beach – FOUND! 2 Day Search!

Well, this was a tough one but it turned out great!  Crystal and her family were staying in Orange Beach, AL while they watched her daughter’s team compete in the World Series of Softball. Two days ago they were enjoying a much needed break cooling off in the Gulf of Mexico right before the sun went down. Crystal was standing in waist deep water trying to catch one of the bouncing water balls when tragedy struck. As the ball hit her left hand, both she and her husband saw her engagement ring fly off her hand and into the water. They looked and looked and raked their hands through the sand with goggles and masks and all of the volunteers they could get but they were unlucky and couldn’t find it. A very distraught Crystal did get a bit of luck later however when she found me on TheRingFinders and sent me an email. So yesterday after getting what I consider to be very thorough starting point directions, I began my search in the Gulf. I spent hours and ended up gridding out a really large area and I dug everything from fishing lures to a cell phone deep in the sand. I just couldn’t find it. I was bummed out and beat up from all the digging and I made the call to a very sad Crystal. Well I will say that the occasional one I can’t recover absolutely haunts me and I lay there when I got home last night thinking about anything that I could have done differently. After checking the tide graphs again, I decided that I would try even deeper and use a different mode on my machine. My wife gave me the okay this morning and even offered to come along. I started out neck deep and after only 2 passes I heard a strong signal. I switched the machine over so that I could hear what it was made out of and instantly heard that awesome gold tone. After a couple of gentle scoops, I had Crystal’s ring headed back to where it belongs. She was so sad yesterday, it was fun to hear her beside herself with happiness today. I’m very happy for you Crystal, thank you for giving me the chance to find your ring for you.

Lost Ring, Night Find, Pensacola Beach – FOUND!

I love to find rings at night!!!  There’s something about that cool breeze and the stars in the sky that make it that much better  😃  I got an email last night about 8pm explaining to me that Matt and his wife had been out on Pensacola Beach all day enjoying the Gulf and especially the Blue Angels as they rehearsed for the upcoming show this weekend.  Matt had put up a tent and taken off his shoes.  Unfortunately, his wife put her diamond and white gold engagement band in one of his shoes and forgot to tell him.  When the family ended the day and headed towards the parking lot Matt popped his shoes together on the boardwalk to knock off the sand.  When an inexpensive ring came out he asked if she had put her rings in the shoe and she said, “oh yeah, hand me my engagement ring” 😳😳😳.  Well you can guess where this story goes next. First Matt decided to rent a metal detector and actually did a great job removing all of the bottle caps and pop tops from the area ( I appreciate that 😉).  Unfortunately those machines are just not built to find anything made of precious metal around saltwater or after it has dropped deeper in the sand.  In fact when they finally called me and I came out, you could see his tracks where he had gone directly over the spot with the rental detector.  It didn’t take long once I finally got to the beach and I’m very glad I got to return such an important ring.  Thanks for letting me help you out Matt!
