*** How to find a diamond stud earring in a artificial grass soccer field. Alissa called asking if I had the equipment to find a small white gold stud earring. She said her young daughter had lost the stud earring while playing goalie, so they believed it would be near the goal zone. That was sounding better as it would be time consuming to grid search a whole soccer field with a 9” detector coil.

Another concern was we could not get on the Orange Coast College soccer field with out supervision of the caretakers of the field. It has a 20ft. fence around the whole artificial grass field. Timing was important as the caretakers would me us there at a preset time and after opening the gate they watched over the search process.

We walked over to the far north goal area and I set up my high frequency metal detector to pick up micro small gold. I could see why the college want to protect the field. The artificial turf was thick and it could easily hide a small earring. I was told by the caretakers that the artificial turf was installed using nails. ( I didn’t get interference from any sort of nail, etc. ). I got a couple small high pitched signal on my test swings. Then after doing two 10ft. grid lines, I returned to those signals and “BINGO” !! the diamond stud earring. Both the mother and daughter were ecstatic. They said the backing wasn’t important but I checked the other signal, BOOM !! the backing.

It was about 20 minutes total including walking over to the other side of the field. The caretakers were doubting that this small object could be found, but now they are believers. All in all, it was a good search, especially when we probably only had one opportunity to get on the field.

Every search has it’s challenges. You can’t find it if you don’t try..

Successful Lost Ring Recovery Emerald Bay, Laguna Beach, CA.  By Ringfinders Member .. Call Stan the Metal Detector Man .. 949-500-2136

*** Lenna’s mother called me after learning her daughter had just lost a gold and diamond ring in the sand. The loss happened just minutes before calling me. Lenna was at Emerald Bay In Laguna Beach, CA. They made arrangements for me to get access to the private beach and I was on my way. It’s a 5 mile drive for me.

When I arrived we still had some daylight to make the search a bit easier. Lenna showed me an area near the picnic tables which had some metal trash to sort through with my detector. The petite gold ring was in my scoop a few minutes after beginning the search.

The whole group at the beach party celebrated. Everyone was camera shy so you get a pic of me holding the ring. I sent photo of the ring to her mother who replied telling me how much that ring meant to both her and her daughter as it was a recent graduation gift.

*** Eric had lost his white gold wedding ring while throwing a ball. The loss occurred at Bolsa Chica State Beach in the city of Huntington Beach, CA. It happened under a bridge which connects to the tide water wildlife sanctuary.  He saw the ring fly off his finger and into ankle deep sandy water.

Eric was positive that he could find it using a shovel and sifting system. He returned two days later with a bunch of tools. Starting at 9am he had not found it after 3 hours of hard work. Frustrated and ready to give up he google searched for ideas.

He contacted me and I said I may not have time to do a proper search but if he was at the location, I would meet him there in 20 minutes. Access to the location was over large break water boulders. Once down in the sandy river bottom Eric showed me the location which he had extensively dug up. It was saturated wet sand which can actually help a heavy gold ring to sink deeper.

Turned I my detector, telling Eric I would give it a quick try, because I had to be somewhere else soon. I now had a good location so it would easy to search it properly later. WELL!! two quick swings and I got the signal. Big white gold wedding ring in the scoop.  Wonders never cease.. we just had a couple seconds to take photos before I had to leave. .. Another successful search and a very happy and grateful person that now knows who to call if he needs help finding a ring or other metallic valuable.

*** Lily was at Shaws Cove in Laguna Beach, CA. She was wearing a gold bracelet and when she got home it wasn’t on her wrist. She was devastated because it was lost and it actually belonged to her boyfriend.

They had returned to the beach searching for a couple hours with no luck. Then she did a google search for metal detector service, where my contact information came up.

She called me  at 8:30pm while I was driving home from Santa Monica Beach. She verbal told me what happened and that the bracelet was most likely where they had been sitting. Then she added that it could have fallen in the sand as they walked off the beach ( 125 yards +-). Lastly she thought there could be a chance it was was in the first trash can at the steps.

It was pitch dark when I arrived at that beach. Even though I thought I knew that beach well, I had trouble identifying the place they sent  using photos Lily texted me. Tomorrow at daylight may be too late as a lifeguard told me there is a guy that detects that small beach almost everyday.

Finally I found the area they had been sitting and a few swings with my detector revealed the gold chain next to a 3ft.deep hole. I’m sure if someone would have filled that hole in the bracelet would have been push too deep in the sand to be detected with my equipment. I was relieved because I didn’t have to grid the walk off the beach or check the large trash can. I do long grids where the item may have dropped walking off the beach and I have searched many trash cans for lost rings, keys and cellphones.

Texted a photo of the bracelet to Lily and made arrangements to meet her a couple days later to return it . She was more than happy. A very nice lady and a pleasure to help her find what was so special to her and her boyfriend.

Wedding Ring Save at Lanikai Beach

  • from Honolulu (Hawaii, United States)

I was running errands when my phone rang.  It was Chris and Lisa asking if I could do them a huge favor and find Chris’ lost wedding ring at Lanikai beach.  I let them know it would be about 90 minutes before I could get there as I was on the opposite side of the island and still had to grab my gear from home. They said they would grab a bite to eat and meet me at the entrance to the beach.

Lanikai beach is very popular beach in a residential neighborhood with extremely limited parking.  When I arrived Chris offered to move his vehicle and let me take the parking space while Lisa and I headed to the beach.  Upon arrival with our toes in the sand Lisa marked off the area they had been sitting and by this time the tide had come in and the section of beach was awash.  Lisa let me know that I was looking for a chunky silver wedding band.  I immediately got to work scanning the area in a spiral pattern working outward from where they had been sitting.  It didn’t take long and after 5 minutes got a screaming signal of BIG silver.  One deep scoop later Chris was reunited with his ring and the nearby beach-go-ers who had been observing were all cheers.

… Steve called me for help finding his Platinum wedding band. Lost in the sand near the Santa Monica Pier, Santa Monica, CA. He said his friends were coming with a metal detector they purchased from a local sporting goods shop.

I told him that it would be more than an hour till I could meet him on the beach. It would be dark but, if they stayed in the location it shouldn’t take long to find his ring. I only asked if he found it before I got there, please call me. Otherwise I will be there as soon as possible. Los Angeles freeways are unpredictable when it comes to traffic delays.

I arrived at 8pm in the darkness. They showed me where Steve was standing when the ring slipped off his finger. Turn on my detector and take a few swings ,BINGO.. Platinum ring in my sand scoop.

Every one was happy and they all learned that it isn’t easy to work a metal detector they had purchased at the store.

Lost Jewelry – Waimea Beach – 2Rings and a Bracelet

  • from Honolulu (Hawaii, United States)

I woke up that morning and like a lot of us checked my phone.  I had a text from Allison asking if I still work with the Ringer Finders.  I let her know that I was a proud member and asked her about how I might.  She told me the story of how she had gone to the beach with friends and before going in the water she had taken her two rings and gold bracelet off and put them on her towel.  When she exited the water she grabbed her towel without thinking.  Instant recognition of whet she had just done as the jewelry went flying!  She described how she and her friends searched the sand but were unable to find anything.

I asked what beach this took place at and she told me Waimea beach.  Waimea is famous for its big wave (30 ft or more) surfing but what a lot of people don’t know it that is has very deep and very soft sand and that anything dropped in to that sand can vanish instantly.  I told her I would meet her at the beach but that it would take me close to 90 minutes to drive there as I lived on the opposite side of the island.  After meeting her at Waimea she took me to the area the jewelry was lost and I began detecting.  We drew a crowd but they were merely curious and rooting for Allison to get her stuff back.  After a few minutes out into the scoop popped one ring.  The a couple minutes later came the second ring and finally the gold bracelet to the cheers of the small crowd looking on!  I’ve never see a smile like the one Allison had on her face when she had all her stuff back.

Car Keys Found! Sherwood’s Beach

  • from Honolulu (Hawaii, United States)

I got a call from Josh who was directed to me after contacting another Ringfinder.  Josh and his family were visiting from the Massachsuetts. In the process of unloading all the necessary beach paraphenalia they had lost the car keys to their rental car.  He called the rental company and they informed him there would be a $500 replacement cost to get new keys to Josh.  That’s when Josh decided to try the better option to call RingFinders.  After he called I told him it would only take 20 minutes and I headed out to meet him.

Once there Josh pointed out the area they thought the keys were and we went to work.  I gridded off the path from the car to the beach chairs and began detecting the area.  After 15 minutes and collecting pop tops and bottle caps so I got a trashy but strong signal.  Scooped the target and sure enough in the scoop were the Key FOB to the rental car.  Catastophy averted.

*** Daniel called asking for help to find a white gold wedding band that he lost in the sand 4 days ago. The area of the loss was a very populated part of Newport Beach, CA. I gave him a short explanation of our chances to recover the ring as that beach is heavily hunted area by recreational metal detectors and it is also sifted by the city Beach King machine.

He understood and I said I could meet him at the location. This was the last day he would be able to show me the general location. He showed me a 20’x20’ area. I setup my metal detector and decided to start at the center. A half dozens swings of my detector and my first signal was Daniel’s white gold wedding ring that had been hiding in the sand at the towel line.

Both Daniel and his wife were very happy and amazed that his ring was found so fast after so many days. I know all the possibilities that the ring could have easily been found or picked up by the cleaning machines. This is just another case to stay positive and give it try..
