15 Keys on a Key Ring Lost in Tall Grass, Found and Returned Rocky Point, NC

May 2nd, I got a call from Sherry telling me she had lost a set of keys while weed eating around her house. She said she had a hole in the pocket of her pants and didn’t realize her keys had fallen through. She also said that the grass was about 8 inches high. We agreed to meet and I set out on the hour and a half drive.

When I met Sherry, she showed me where she had started her weed eating that went around the trailer. The grass was probably thigh deep and I started detecting as well as doing a visual search. About half way around the trailer, I eyeballed the key ring with 15 keys nestled down in the grass. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to find a pewter charm that was also on the key chain that had evidentially come off the ring. None the less, Sherry was grateful to get her office, house, car and various other keys back.

2 Yellow Gold Wedding Bands Lost, Found and Returned Garden City SC

April 27th, I received a text message saying, “If you could please call me, with a phone number. We lost two wedding bands.” I called the number and talked with Jessie who told me his mother; Tammy had lost her 2 Gold Wedding Bands. She had actually removed numerous rings from her fingers and had put them in the cup holder of her beach chair. When everybody packed up to leave, it was then Tammy realized her rings were still in the folded-up chair. But they weren’t.  They had all fallen out on their way off the beach. The family had searched and located all but the 2 gold wedding bands. Jessie and I agreed to meet at the beach location in less than an hour.

When I arrived at the beach, I had to call Jessie. The family was in the process of packing up and heading home from their vacation. Jessie soon showed up and showed me where the family had been sitting and their path off the beach. Jessie told me he had to finishing packing and if necessary, could I mail the rings to him if I found them. I assured him I would and started my grid search. After having no luck in their sitting area, I started working their pathway to the parking lot. Since Jessie told me he “thought” his mother’s rings were white gold, I was looking for single digit’s numbers on my Equinox 800. I finally hit a solid 13, which is a yellow gold number just off the end of the parking lot. I scooped up a small amount of sand and shook the sand out of the scoop. Bingo, 1 yellow gold thin wedding band in the scoop. I did another couple of swings with the detector and got another solid target. Another scoop of sand, I shook out the sand and had the second yellow gold band in the scoop. I sent Jessie a picture of both rings and called him. He showed the picture to his mom, and she confirmed those were the 2 rings. Jessie gave me the address they were at and I hand delivered both rings to Tammy. I caught them just before they pulled out of the driveway. Tammy was very happy.

IPhone 16 Lost in the Ocean, Recovered and Returned North Myrtle Beach SC

This recovery started on Saturday night about 9 pm when I received the following text. “Hi! My girlfriend lost her phone during a walk on the sand bar during low tide about an hour ago between 16th and 13th street in North Myrtle. The tide started coming in, so we had to limit our search to 10 minutes. We’re wondering if you’d be able to help us look for it during low tide in the morning. We know approximately where it was dropped. I know tomorrow is Easter, but please let us know if you are available.” I called the number attached to the text and talked with Maria, who lost the phone. First, I wanted to confirm the location, as to whether it was a North or South Ave in North Myrtle Beach. I also wanted to get some more details. Maria told me that her and her boyfriend, Joe, were walking on the sand bars and at some point, the phone came out of her pocket. When she confirmed she lost the phone on the side south, I decided to take a ride and look at the parking situation. I ended up stopping by the condo they were at and got to meet them. I learned the last location she was able to get from the phone was between 14th and 15th Ave South. She also told me again about walking on the sand bars and at one point she was on her hands and knees trying to feel for the phone in the water.

Today, Easter Sunday, I was on the beach at 6 am working the water between the sand bar and the beach. I ran into Maria and Joe around 6:30 as I was searching. I had misunderstood Maria and thought she lost the phone between the sand bars and the beach. She had actually lost it going through inlets between sand bars. I also thought and told her, that I suspected the phone would be lying on the bottom. The sand was hard packed, and I didn’t think the phone would settle in the sand, was proved wrong on that assumption. So, Maria got me squared away on where she thought the phone might be. I started checking the inlets between the sand bars and on the 3rd inlet I hit a strong target. I dug 3 full scoops of sand before I got the target out of the hole.  I had to be careful that if this was the phone, I didn’t want to break it with the scoop. As I pulled out the 3rd scoop of sand, I saw the red and white checkered case hanging out about an inch from between the sand. Maria saw it about the same time and reached down and pulled it out from the sand scoop. She was so excited. I’ve heard the newer I Phones are waterproof, and I guess they are. This one had been in the ocean, buried in sand for almost 12 hours and it turned right on, and she was able to call Joe’s phone. Vacation, her pictures and Easter Sunday all saved!!

10 Property Stakes/Markers found on Heavily Wooded 200 Acre Property – Green Sea SC

I got a call from Jeff, the owner of JD Metal Detecting asking if I could help a couple find some property markers. The couple had shown up at his shop looking for a detector and Jeff suggested they talk to me. I jumped at the chance to help; I grabbed 3 different detectors, my pin pointer, and my digging knife and was on my way.

When I arrived, I met Brock and Ce-Ce waiting for me on a barren piece of property. Looking at the200 acre plot of land, we identified the front three markers and went from there. After about two hours of trudging through heavily wooded, tall grass and some swampy areas, we found the 10 markers we were looking for. All the markers identified Brock’s two lots and the dividing line between him and the other property owner, Although we didn’t see any snakes, I’m sure they were there someplace. Brock and Ce-Ce have some big plans on clearing the land and building a beautiful home there.

IPhone Lost in the Dry Sand, Found and Returned Myrtle Beach SC

Shortly before 3 p.m. on Apr 4th, I received a call from Magen asking if I could find an IPhone on the beach. I responded I could and got additional details. I told her I could be there in about 30-40 minutes, she agreed, and I was on my way.

Magen had given me the code for the parking garage, so I had a place to park when I got there. I met Magen by the hotel pool, and we walked to the beach. On the way, Magen told me her 11-year-old daughter had been making sandcastles and had laid her phone on the sand. At some point they realized the phone had disappeared.  Magen knew the area where it was lost. She said they had actually drugged their feet through the area trying to find the phone. I started the search a little south and after a few lines, Magen moved me a little further north. I hadn’t gotten a description of the phone, figuring it was probably the only phone that’d be out there. At some point and unknowingly, my phone fell off my hip. As I’m searching, a young man came up behind me and asked if I was looking for a phone. I said I was, and he handed me a phone he just found. Well, not paying a lot of attention to the phone, I asked Magen If it was her daughter’s phone. When she said “no”, I realized I was holding my own phone. To say I was totally embarrassed is an understatement!!! After a couple more grid lines, I hit her daughter’s phone buried under a few inches of sand. A dance competition weekend saved.

Grandfather’s Gold Crucifix Lost in Grassy Area, Found and Returned Leland, NC

A little after 11am this morning, the 21st of March, I got a message from fellow Ring Finder, Steve Ray. The message said “I just got a call about a lost cross where he knows the area, along, but not in a lake. Leland NC, if you’re interested. I’m in Ohio.” Steve also sent a text from the owner, along with a phone number. I messaged Steve back saying, “Yea, I can take it.” I called the number in the text and didn’t get an answer, so I left a voice mail. Within seconds, Matt, the owner, called me back and I got additional information. He agreed with me coming to search, and I told him I’d be there in about an hour.

When I arrived, Matt was standing on the balcony of the apartment and came right down to the parking lot.  As we’re walking out to the area, he explained that when he woke up this morning, he needed to get something out of the car. At the time, his wife had the car keys, and she was out in a back area of the apartments with the dogs. So, he had walked out to get the keys from his wife. While he was out there, he felt the chain break that was holding the Crucifix. He grabbed the chain and thought the Crucifix fell out of his shirt on the ground. He also stated that he searched the area numerous times. He also searched the bedroom, bathroom and rest of the apartment with no luck. As he’s taking me to the area, I searched his path both visually and with the Nox 800. When we got to where he said the chain broke, I started a grid search. It was a small area, maybe 10×20 foot square. Both sides of the area had wire fencings. I checked those areas, which was mostly leaves with my pin pointer. As I’m searching, all of a sudden, he says, “Thank You for coming” and he had a big smile on his face. It only meant one thing! As I turned around to see what he was talking about, he put both hands on my shoulder and squeezed my shoulders. He pointed to the ground, and I could see the Crucifix, which was well blended in with the ground. I love it when things work out for the best. On the way back to my car, Matt told me the Crucifix originally belonged to his grandfather. When Matt’s grandparents hit their 50th wedding anniversary, his grandfather had the Crucifix specially engraved and gave it to wife. Both grandparents have passed and it’s all the more sentimental to Matt as a reminder of his Grandparents every day. It was a beautiful story!

14K Yellow Gold Diamond Ring Lost, Found and Returned Oak Island NC

This adventure started on the evening of February 28th, around 6 p.m. when I received the following text message, “I lost my diamond ring in the yard today. I was raking leaves and cutting plants….could u help me?? I live in Oak Island NC.” I called the number attached to the text and didn’t get an answer, so I replied to her text saying, “Yes, call (included my number). Jim.” Within a couple of minutes, she called, and I got additional details. I told her I could be there in an hour, which she agreed to and sent me her address.

When I arrived, I met Teresa, and she showed me the areas she suspected her ring could be. I turned on my Equinox 800 and went to work.  I scanned 3 or 4 piles of leaves, a couple of other areas she was in and there was no ring. I originally thought this would be an easy search, sure fooled me!!! She asked if I could check her concrete porch. I advised her that more than likely there was rebar in the concrete, which there was. We started doing a visual search. She mentioned that she had repotted some plants, so I used my pin pointer to check the planters. While I was checking one planter, Teresa picked up another planter to move to closer to me. Suddenly, she said “here it is!” When she had picked up the planter, it tilted enough to cause the ring to come out of hiding and hit the floor. She was so excited and relieved.

Mother’s Ring Lost in the Dry Sand While Throwing a Football, Found and Returned Myrtle Beach SC

I received a message from Tina on Nov 30th, around 9:40 pm inquiring about help finding a lost ring. She text and also included a post she had made on a Myrtle Beach Lost and Found FB group. The text read “I am at Dunes Village till Sunday. I lost my mother’s ring 6 diamond in birthstone colors, had names also. I would love to find it. I was throwing a football in front of Dunes Village around 5 pm today. If you can help, I’m here until Sunday at 11am.” The post she made had a little more information and details, it read in part, “It was my Christmas present I had just gotten like two weeks ago from my boyfriend. It has 6 names also engraved in it.” I text her back and told her I could be there at about 10 in the morning and ask if she could meet me to show me the area. She agreed on the time and meeting up.

This morning, we met as planned and Tina showed me the area. The area consisted of dry sand, so I knew anything with any weight to it would quickly disappear in the sand. She had taken a good visual of where she was the day before. She lined me up straight out from a blue awning on the side of the resort and I turned on my Nox 800. I started south of the awning doing an east/west grid working my way north. Tina said her ring was silver, so I knew I was looking for a VDI (visual display indicator) number in the low to mid 20 range. I got a hit with a VDI of 24, which turned out to be a dime. The next signal I got was 22 bouncing back and forth to 23. The Nox was also showing that it was a shallow target. I was pretty sure I had Tina’s ring. I dug some sand out, checked the hole and had the target in the scoop. I gently shook out the scoop and saw the beautiful ring lying at the bottom of the scoop. I blew the sand off the ring, turned to Tina holding the ring up and said, “got it!” She stood there in disbelief and asked, “is it my ring?” I think she had come to believe the ring was gone forever. I love the looks I get when I hand somebody back their lost item.

Sprinkler Solenoid Valve Found Carolina Shores NC

I got a call last Wednesday from a repeat customer asking if I could help him find a sprinkler solenoid valve in his yard. We agreed that I’d meet him today, Thursday, Oct 29th. When I arrived, Jim was waiting for me in the yard. He showed me the suspected area where the solenoid was buried. He told me that he had had some landscaping done and the protective boxes had been covered up with dirt and rocks. When I turned on my Equinox 800, I was getting all kinds of EMI (electromagnetic interference), so I turned down the sensitivity. Luckily, Jim had another solenoid that he had already found that I used to test. I knew I was looking for negative numbers and probably in the -4 to -5 range on the VDI. The valves are mainly plastic with very little metal (basically screws, a spring, and some copper wire) in them. When I ran the coil over the exposed solenoid, I wasn’t getting much of a signal. I cranked the sensitivity back up to 25 (max) and was able to get enough of a signal I could distinguish the signal from the interference. After checking a different signal that turned out to be nothing, I swung over an area more into the bushes. I got the low grunt sound and the numbers I was looking for. Jim started digging and after a few inches of dirt and rocks, he spotted the cover protecting the solenoid.  We found exactly what he was looking for. Jim for holding on to my number and giving me a call. So glad I could help.

Man’s Wedding Band Lost in the Sand, Found and Returned Holden Beach NC

This adventure started when I saw a FB post on the Holden Beach FB Group page stating the author Susie’s nephew had lost his wedding ring while playing catch on the beach. I commented on the post saying, “Call me if I can help” along with a link to my Blog in TheRingFinders.com web page. I also sent her pm with the same information. A short time later Susie responded to my pm and we went back and forth with questions and answers. At the end, I told her I was on my way and gave her my eta.

I arrived shortly before 830 pm and messaged Susie saying, “I’m here.” I met Susie’s nephew, Bailey in the driveway and we walked out on the beach. By now it was getting dark, but Bailey was able to show me the suspected area where he had been playing catch. He said that he and his brother had been playing catch and at some point, his ring slipped off his finger. Luckily, he caught it and put it back on his finger. He then said when they were finished playing catch; he went back to where the family was sitting and joined them. The suspected area wasn’t huge, but it was big enough and it was pitch black by then. After 2 hours of doing grid searches in both the suspected area and where the family had been sitting by headlamp, I wasn’t having any luck. I called it a night, thinking I’d be back the following day with a much larger and expanded search area. I didn’t convey my plan to Bailey when we said goodbye. I had a few things I needed to get done the next day and I wanted to make sure I wasn’t making a promise I couldn’t keep.

Today, Thursday everything had worked out and I let Susie know by messenger that I was coming back up, which she agreed to. Then I called my good friend, Burwin and told him what was going on and asked if he wanted to come along. He quickly agreed, which he always does when I ask. We got there shortly after 5 pm and I showed Burwin the 2 areas. I took the Family gathering spot and Burwin started a grid search in the suspected area. While I’m working my area, Burwin was expanding his grid search across the top of the beach along the high tide line. Burwin then started working an east/west gird search down the sloop towards the oceans, which was about mid tide by then. A short time later, I look to see where Burwin was and I see him raising his arm, which only meant one thing – He Found It! Where he found it was completely on the opposite side of the suspected area of the beach. I knew Bailey, Susie and the rest of the family were at dinner, so I took a picture of the ring and sent it to them. Within a couple of minutes, I got a message from Susie saying “OMG!!!!! They are so happy!!!!” I responded that I was leaving the ring under a shell on a table on the back porch. Another happy ending and a vacation saved.
