Billy a relative of Karen called me asking if I could help them find a family heirloom diamond ring that Karen had lost at the beach just an hour before the call. Knowing that the weather had been nice, and there were a lot of people there I told him I would leave right away to do the search if they would await. They agreed to wait, and I left for the search.

Billy met me when I arrived and took me to the area of the loss. His family including Karen was visiting from Wisconsin, and were scheduled to leave the next day, so this loss created a high level of tension. The ring had been Karen’s great grandmother’s, and had a deep special meaning for her. They showed me what had happened, the ring had flown off of her finger while she was brushing the sand off of her clothes. I began my search and found bottle caps, foil, some coins, but no ring. I then began searching in the other direction, and a little further out, when I got a good strong signal. I put the scoop in, pulled it up and shook out the sand. When I looked in, expecting to see the diamond ring, I saw 2 rings, and was a little puzzled. Before I brought them out, I asked if I was looking for 1 or 2 rings, they then said that 2 were lost, but they were really concerned about the diamond ring. That is when I pulled them both out of the scoop to everyone’s surprise. Karen had an immediate flood of emotion when she saw the ring her great grandmother had worn, and came and gave me a big hug. I know it was bothering her to think she might have to go back to Wisconsin leaving this representation of her family behind. Boy it is great to see joy restored!

While out on the beach doing the night search for the lost wedding band I got a desperate call from Josh. He had thrown his car key and remote off of his apartment balcony into the ivy and bushes, and was unable to find them. I let him know that I would come over as soon as I finished my search for the ring.

I finished my ring search about 10:00 PM, and arrived at Josh’s house about 10:30 PM. He explained what he did and showed me the area. There was not only ivy, but bougainvillea as well, two forms of shrubbery that can hide things well. I put on my headlight, and grabbed my detector and pin pointer and began my search. I found a number of metal items such as cans and bottle caps. I continued my search a little out of the initial area, and found the car key. Josh was surprised and very happy. I continued the search for the remote doing battle with the bougainvillea, but I was losing the battle with blood dripping from my arms from the wicked thorns that were hard to see at night, so I told Josh that I would come the next day when the sun was up to do a more thorough search for the remote. I got there today and asked Josh to recreate the actions he took the previous night. It looked as though the remote was going to be in one of the bushes. I was able to get my detector coil under the bushes, and under one of the bougainvillea got a real good signal. I put the pin pointer under the bush being careful of the thorns, and deep in the bush was the remote. Josh was overjoyed to get his key and remote back, and I was happy to have made his day.

PLatinum Wedding Band Lost 4th of July at Hermosa Beach, CA…Found and Happily Returned.

I received a call from Rick in the afternoon on the 4th of July. He explained that he had been digging a hole to insert a beach umbrella, when after filling the hole back in, he realized his wedding ring was gone. He had had surgery on his hand, and his fingers were swollen, so he had the ring resized so he would be able to wear it. His hand has now healed from the operation, and his fingers have come back to normal size which made the ring much loser than it had been. I knew it was a busy day at the beach, but also knew that as soon as the people were gone, the county would be cleaning the beaches with their machines, so we could not wait. I told him I would get there as soon as I could, so we arranged to meet.

I got to the beach and Rick met me as I walked out to the area. He brought me over to where he and his family were enjoying their day. He showed me where he believed the ring to have come off. I readied my equipment and began to search. I did not find the ring in that area, so I asked Rick if he would remove the umbrella because its steel shaft was interfering with the search. He agreed, and as he approached the umbrella, I stepped back from the area, took a few swings, and got a real solid tone in the headphones. I asked Rick to hold off pulling the umbrella, because I believed I had found his ring. I scooped, shook out the sand, and there it was. The ring had flipped back as he was digging, and ended up a little out of the area he thought it might have come off. I was glad to have made his 4th of July a much happier day.

Austrailian Opal Pendant Lost in Horse Stable in Thousand Oaks, CA…Found and Joyously Returned.

I was on my way home from shopping when Mark called. He told me how his wife had been tending a young horse this morning, when the horse reared up, and one of its hooves hit her in the neck and knocked off her opal pendant. Mark and Farina had been married now only 3 weeks, and this had been a gift Mark bought for her on a trip he had made to Australia. She had also wore it in their wedding, so it had a very sentimental value for them. The stall where the loss occurred was covered in thick sawdust, and they had looked for almost an hour for the lost pendant. I let Mark know that as soon as I got home I would gather my equipment and be on my way.

Mark told me the pendant had only a small thin clasp for metal, so I knew I needed specialized equipment for the search. When I got there Mark and Farina took me to the stall, and explained how the incident occurred, and I got my equipment ready for a search. I must admit it looked like she took a pretty good hit. When I began, I realized we had a problem, the whole floor of the stall had bits of metal in the rubber backing, and I could not get a good signal anywhere. We decided we needed to remove the sawdust from the stall, and put it in an area that had no, or very little metal. I searched shovelful by shovelful with no signal. I think I was expecting a little more metal being involved. I then began to rescan all of the sawdust we had laid out, and when about 3/4 through I heard the slightest squeak in the headphones. I turned up the pin pointer and put it in; nothing. I went over with the coil again, and got the squeak. I put the pin pointer in again, nothing, so I moved the sawdust around. After I moved the material around I saw the smallest glimmer of gold, and reached in and pulled up the pendant. There was almost as much metal involved as a small stud earring; you have to have the right tool for the job. I showed Mark, who rushed over, and gave me a big hug, as did Farina. I am so glad to have made their day; great smiles all around!

It was last Friday and I was working with one of the young horses at the barn, a 2 year old stallion who was feeling frisky, when he reared up in front of me and kicked my collarbone right where my Necklace was. He ripped it off my neck and my blue Opal disappeared in the shavings of that stall. I was super upset about it because it was the first Birthday present my Husband ever gave me and I was wearing it on our Wedding just 2 Weeks before.

He could get them online but felt we didn’t have time for that since they need to change the shavings in the stall soon. So then he searched for renting a metal detector and came across a website called ringfinders. He clicked on our location and Steve’s name came up.
We were surprised to see there was someone out there who was helping people in this way & we called him immediately. Steve answered on the first call and told us he would love to help us find our lost item. He said he was on his way home and could pick up his equipment and meet us in about an hour and 1/2. As we waited for Steve to come to our side of town we said to ourselves what a great guy he must be to just drop whatever he was doing and spend hours of his time to help us.
Steve showed up as fast as he could, we drove together to the farm and began our search in the stall. We quickly learned the metal detector would not work in the stall because of the metal in the rubber mats on the floor which were made of old car tires. So we decided to empy all of the shavings out onto the ground in front of the stall. Steve was using his metal detector on the shavings and it appeared to be working fine on the dirt floor of the barn but he was not finding anything. This went on for over 1/2 and we had not found anything. My husband and I got down on our hands and knees and started sifting thru the shavings with our hands and after about 15 min of this and a couple prayers Steve turned to my husband and said, ” Does it look like this? “.
We were overcome with joy and gave Steve a big hug & thanked him profusely. Wedding Ring Lost in Backyard in San Pedro, CA…Found and Joyously Returned.

I received a call late this morning from Steve who had lost his wedding ring while gardening in his backyard. He had been getting his roses ready for the upcoming spring growing season mulching the area around each of his plants. It had been a cold day, and he had felt the ring a bit loose on his finger, but did not think much about it until later when after he had mulched all of his plants, he noticed it was gone. He looked all through the garden with no luck, and then found me on The Ring Finders web site. I let him know that I would be there as soon as possible, and when ready, I was on my way.

When I got there Steve took me to his yard, and showed me where he had been working. There was some wire to some lights that he was able to move, and some solar lights that I figured on working around. I was able to get to all of the areas that Steve showed me, but was unable to get a signal for the ring. The solar lights were providing a bit of a problem, but I worked around them as needed. I then went over the entire grass portion of his yard which was thick St. Augustine grass finding a dime and a penny. We talked, and then decided that we should detect the contents of the green waste bin, so Steve went out to get that ready. I told him I would go back once more and check the outer perimeter of the flower bed once more. I also worked closer to the solar lights, and near one was getting two signals, one strong one from the light post and another. I pulled the coil, and was still getting the second signal, and it was in the gold zone on my detector. I put in the pin pointer, and underneath a stalk of grass was his ring. I grabbed it and went out to tell Steve I had his ring, wherein he gave me a hug; he was so happy. It was so great to restore his joy! Another great day!

Two Rings Lost at Santa Monica Beach, CA…Found and Happily Returned.

I received a call from Dmitri yesterday regarding two rings that he had lost the night before. He and some friends had gone to the beach after dark, when Dmitri decided to go for a swim. Wisely he removed his two rings, and placed them on his shirt while he went in the water. When got out he went up and picked up his shirt, and remembered too late that his rings were there. He and his friends searched around for about an hour with no luck. Dmitri searched the internet, and found me through The Ring Finders web sight. We decided to meet as soon as I could get there.

When I got to the beach Dmitri and his family met me to show me the area he believed the loss to have taken place. The problem was that it was dark when the rings were lost, so being able to identify the exact area was very difficult, so I figured we would search quite a bit outside of the box. As I began, I was finding quarters and dimes, which to me was a very good sign that no one else had been through there. Also it did not look as though the county had cleaned the beach that morning which also made me more hopeful for a successful search. I continued to expand the area as Dmitri pointed out in pictures they had taken when they were there in the dark. I know how discouraging it can be for those we are trying to help when we keep pulling up bottle caps, pull tabs and miscellaneous coins, but Dmitri seemed to keep a positive attitude while I continued my search. After about 3 hours, I began a search along a ridge of sand just outside of the area I was shown by Dmitri, and got another good signal, but this time there in the sand was gold. I reached down and picked it up, Dmitri’s ring, then offered it to him. He was looking right at it but seemed a bit bewildered by the fact that it was actually found at first. He took the ring, then a few more scoops, and we had his second one. The word he said to his wife when he showed her the rings was, “Magic”. It sure is magic to see the smiles on the faces of those who have lost what they believe they might be lost forever, when it is handed back to them. Great day! Dmitri was camera shy, so I got to hold the rings for the blog.

In the evening, I decided to swim in the ocean at Santa Monica beach. I left my rings on my T-shirt and after swimming I took it so abruptly so the rings fell in the sand. It was already dark, so I spent an hour trying to find them but it was not possible. I tried to take a picture of the place and views to be able to track this place. In the morning, I looked up in the Internet where I can buy or rent metal detectors, but all of them must be only shipped.

I had to be quick to start searching since other people could also find them. So, I googled the website theringfinders.com and read all amazing stories about wonderful results of their search. After 3 hours of searching, we went all over again, taking wider area into consideration. And suddenly at one more sound of metal Steve dug the sand and there found my ring. The second ring came right after it. They were around 5 inches deep in the sand, so obviously, they could not be found without Steve’s help. Wedding Ring Lost While Gardening in Thousand Oaks, CA…Found and Joyously Returned.

Andrew called me a few days ago explaining how he had been gardening in his yard, moving a lot of gravel around, and installing stone steps. When he was done with his work he noticed his ring was gone. He asked me questions usually asked by people who call, and I told him I would be able to help the next day if that would work for him. He thanked me, but told me he had purchased a metal detector, and was going to do a search on his own. I encouraged him, and tried to give as many pointers as I could so he could be successful. Later that next day I received another call from Andrew, he had been unable to find the ring, and asked if I could possibly come out and help. I told him I was going to be out in his area the next day, yesterday, and would drop by when I was done.

We connected, and I arrived at Andrew’s house. He took me out to the area where he believed the loss occurred, and showed me the many screws, nails and bits of metal he had found with his $49.00 detector, and I said at least he knew the detector was working. If he had not already purchased the detector I might have tried to discourage him a bit because most of the inexpensive detectors do not have to capability to distinguish metals like the ones I use. I always bring the best and most up to date detectors that can be purchased to my lost item recovery searches. He explained what he had been doing, and where he had been when moving the rocks around, so I then went to work. I swept my coil around the area he had been working, there was a lot of iron, but not the tones I was looking for. I then made a wide sweep, and way over to the right of the working area, I heard it, the tone I was listening for. I looked over at Andrew, and asked if he had been over on that side. I kept moving my coil over the tone as I asked. Andrew moved over, looked down, and saw a glint of gold coming from under a rock, and said that’s it! He reached down and retrieved the ring that had eluded him for 3 days. It was his wedding ring, that had been his dad’s wedding ring. Now that is special. What a great day, and much happiness!

Two days ago I lost my wedding ring doing yard work. It was my fathers wedding ring so it had double sentimental value. My wife and I were sad about losing it so I went out and bought a cheap metal detector and found a bunch of screws. I googled ring finders and found Steve. I couldn’t believe he would come all the way out to Thousand Oaks from Palos Verdes for a donation but he did and much to my surprise he found it in no less than one minute. Diamond wedding Ring Lost in Grass in Long Beach, CA…Found and Happily Returned.

I got a call from Jay this morning asking for help in finding his wife’s wedding ring. He had been at a place of business the night before, holding his wife’s ring in his pocket. When he reached in to get his keys, the action inadvertently pulled the ring out also. It was at night which made the search very difficult, but they did look very long and hard for it. They could not find it, so he came back this morning, and spent about 3 more hours looking, but to no avail. we agreed to meet at the spot of loss later in the afternoon.

I got there a little before Jay, and could see deep grass, so I could understand where their search would have been difficult, but it also gave me some relief, to know that it would not have been seen by a casual passerby, and taken. It was also white gold, which can be a little hard to see in grass because its mirror finish reflects the grass, making it look like grass itself. Well Jay showed me the area he believed the loss to have occurred, and I began my search. I worked through the area finding a few deep targets, but no ring. At each target I would let Jay know if it wasn’t the sound I was looking for or not. I then went to a different mode on the detector to make sure there was nothing being missed, still no ring. I then noticed Jay looking in the grass over in an area he had not pointed out, so I figured he must have been mulling over what had happened, and realizing that he may have been in an area different than what he originally thought. I started searching the new area, and had a target that was near the surface, but I thought too deep. I dug the target, but it turned out to be a small piece of construction material. I walked a few more steps, and got another deep target. One more sweep, and then got the shallow tone I was looking for, I looked up at Jay and said, “Now this one sounds good”. I pulled out the pin pointer, put it in the grass, and there was his wife’s ring. When he saw it he just could not believe it. He told me that they had just got married in April, so this loss meant a whole bunch to them. What a pleasure to bring the joy back to couples, especially newlyweds.

Gold Wedding Ring Lost in San Fernando Valley, CA Backyard…Found and Returned.

I received a call from a young lady yesterday who explained that her husband lost his ring in the backyard. I had been waiting for a call back from someone, so I arranged to meet on the next day. The person did not call back, so I called them back and said that I could go immediately. They told me that it had been late at night, and the husband had been taking the ring off and putting it back on when he dropped it on the deck. When the ring hit the deck it was too dark to see, but they heard it roll to the edge, and then it was gone. They had searched that night, and then hours the next day to no avail.

When I got to their house, I was led to the backyard, and shown a nice new deck that had been built over a very steep hillside. I began my search at the top working around some metal that had been there. and then working down the hillside. I worked as much of the hill that I believed could have caught the ring on a downhill roll, but just came up with nothing but deck screws and nails, with the occasional beer can. I felt that I had completed a thorough search, but did not find the ring, so I went back to the deck, and sat in the area of the loss, contemplated and discussed the loss again with the husband and wife, that is when the wife said she thought it might be right where I began my search. I decided to remove the wires that were there, even though I did not know what they were attached to. As soon as I removed them the husband said that’s it, and I saw the slight glimmer of gold peeping out of the dirt from under where the wires had been. I removed the ring and carefully replaced the wires, with shouts of joy coming from them both. They asked that I did not identify them, but I will say they were very happy that the ring was found, and I will vouch for their smiles. It was explained to me that their rings had been sent to Brazil to be blessed by a priest before the wedding, and specially engraved, so how do you replace that? Another great day!

Lisa called last night wondering if I would be able to find her daughter’s diamond stud earring. I inquired as to where and how it was lost, and of course how long ago. Apparently her daughter was playing volley ball in the back yard when she went up against the net. At that time her earring hooked in the net and pulled off of her ear. She saw it fly off and land in the grass, but found searching for it an effort in futility. The loss happened about 45 minutes before Lisa’s daughter found me on the Internet, and the call was made. We arranged to meet today at about 11:30 AM.

I arrived just a bit early, and was able to park and enjoy the coffee I bought at the fast food restaurant on the way. I called Lisa to let her know I was outside. She led me to the area of the loss. They had cordoned off the area her daughter saw the earring fly into with volley balls (nice touch). The thatch was good and thick, perfect for hiding jewelry. I then asked to see the twin to the lost one. When Lisa showed it to me, I got a bit concerned; it was so small my pin pointer could only barely pick it up if I touched it, and my detector could only pick it up at about 1 inch. I proceeded real low and slow checking every faint sound. I then got a nice faint repeatable  signal, and went in with the pin pointer and my fingers, gently moving the grass around when I saw the thin pin shaped shank of the earring. I grabbed it, held it up, and handed it to a very surprised Lisa. This was a very precious item for her daughter, and she was very happy to know she would be able give it back to her. A real nice beginning of the day.
