I received a call from Alexa about a lost ring. Her husband Stu had been surfing in the water, but removed his wedding ring and placed it in his hat in order to not loose it in the waves (a very prudent move to be sure). What happened after he came out of the water and was ready to leave was that he grabbed up all of his belongings, and walked off forgetting his ring was in his hat. When he realized what he had done, it was too late, the ring was gone. We arranged to meet at the spot for them to show me what had happened.

I got to the beach, and found them quickly. Stu went over the details of the loss, and showed me the area he had his belongings in when he went into the water, and the path he took when he left the beach. I began where he had been sitting and worked my way along the path of his exit. After about 7 passes, I got the strong signal I was hoping to hear. I dug in my scoop, and in the bottom was a nice gold ring I knew had to be Stu’s. I held it up, and showed them. They were very excited to have the ring back, not even having been married a year yet. The recovery made this a special day!

Jane got hold of me after the loss of her ring. She had been out body boarding in the warm Summer water when riding a wave in, it smashed her to the sand with enough force to dislodge the ring from her finger. Although she had goggles on, and searched for it, the ring vanished. This really upset her because this was her late mother’s ring, and to lose it was to lose a very sentimental piece of her history. The loss had occurred the day before, and I knew that this beach is combed by detectorists daily, so I told her I would do the search with a hope it was missed.

I planned my search for the early early morning to catch the extreme low tide. I also asked Jane if she could meet me at the spot to show me where the loss occurred. She did come and narrow down the area for me, and I let her know she did not have to stay, so she could feel safe to not have to be out in the early morning darkness. There were not many targets, and after about 2 1/2 hours of searching I did find the ring. There it was in the bottom of my scoop, I was amazed it was still there, but very pleased to know that the other detectorists had missed it. When I got home it was still dark in the morning, but I sent Jane a text letting her know the ring had been found expecting an answer a few hours later, but to my surprise she answered right away with total disbelief. We arranged to meet so I could give this precious ring back to her. When we met she was so happy to have her ring back, and we had a wonderful conversation for a while where I found that I had met a most interesting individual. What a blessed day that was!

I received a call from Raha for her husband Chris. It seems that they had a tent set up on the beach, and as Chris was about to enter it he brushed the sand off of his hand.  In the process his ring flew off of his hand into the soft sand. After a futile search for the ring they found me on the Ring Finders web site. I let them know that I would be there as soon as possible, because they had not left the area, and I knew we could reenact the loss to make the possibility of a recovery more likely.

When I got to the beach they found me quickly and showed me what had happened.  I knew it should be a quick search. I turned my detector on, and swung the coil twice getting a good strong signal. I dug, and there in the scoop was Chris’ ring. I was able to give them back the token of their love. They will be celebrating their first wedding anniversary in September, so this recovery was special. I will be glad when this virus is over, so we can get those smiles back. A wonderful day!

Gold and Diamond Ring Lost in Backyard in Los Angeles…Found and Happily Returned.

Matthew contacted me regarding the loss of his wife’s ring. They were at a friend’s house for 4th of July, out on the backyard deck that overlooks the city watching fireworks, when she removed her ring and it dropped in the darkness. This was a ring her mother had given her, so it had a strong sentimental value. She heard it hit the deck, and then it was gone. They searched for it in the darkness thinking it may have gone through one of the cracks in the deck because it is a thin ring, or gone over the side into the leaves and brush. We made arrangements to meet later in the day for the search.

I got to the house, and met Matthew and his wife. They showed me what had happened, and where she was standing when the ring dropped. It was close to the side where there was a chain link fence closely positioned to the retaining wall that the deck was built on. I began my search under the deck to eliminate that area as a possibility. I then went into the area between the fence and the wall which was only about 2 feet wide narrowing down to about 8 inches at the bottom which was thick with dead leaves. I could not use my detector, because of the closeness of the chain link fence, nor could I use my standard pin pointer for the same reason. I had to use a special pin pointer in order to get close to the fence without getting false readings. I worked that area moving along slowly, finding pieces of the fence from when it was installed. I searched about 8 feet when one of the signals turned out to be the ring. When I brought it out of the leaves, Matthew who was watching from the deck above could not believe it was found. I handed it to him, and he handed it to his wife. They were both very happy, and it was great to see her smile after getting the ring back.

I received a call the other day in the morning from Frances. She and her family had been at the beach the day before when her husband went into the water, and his ring slid off of his hand into the foaming waves to disappear in an instant. I looked the tide chart, and realized I was just a couple hours short of high tide, so I asked if Frances could meet me at the beach so she would be able to show me where the loss occurred. She told me that was not going to be possible. I then asked more questions regarding the area, and asked if she could send some pictures showing the area as well. She did send me enough information, and I immediately got on the way for the search.

I know this area is detected unmercifully, and was hoping the ring had not already been found. When I arrived I spotted another detectorist at work in the area I was supposed to search, but after closer inspection, I surmised he was using a detector that was good for dry searching only, which provided some relief. I donned my waders, and headed off into the water, to search as deep as possible in order to ride the tide up as it rose. I knew I had to search as deep as possible first, and work my way up the slope. I found a few targets, many of them too small to be held by my 1/2 hole scoop, which caused me to dig more than I anticipated, but I marched on. I continued the search working up the slope grid line by grid line. I finally got near the top of the slope, got a solid signal, and scooped a heavy gold ring. After close inspection I was able to read the inscription Frances told me to look for. I then sent a text to her with a picture of the ring, and we arranged to meet back at the beach a while later to return the ring. She came with her husband Alan, and when he placed it back on his finger I could see why it had come off so easy, it was very loose. They were very happy to have back something they thought was probably lost forever. It is a pleasure to bring the joy back.

Frances sent the following testimonial:

Steve is truly an ANGEL!

My husband lost his wedding ring at Redondo Beach, CA. This happened when he was IN THE WATER! We were very very sad……we thought that it was swept away by the waves and that it was lost forever. But we still did not want to give up and that’s when we came across Steve’s information. We called him the next morning and he immediately took action! We were so impressed by his knowledge and professionalism. After an hour, he sent us a picture of my husband’s ring!!! AMAZING!!!! He is so kind, sweet and he really wants to help others. Thank you, Steve, you are truly and ANGEL!

I got a call from Alessandra, she had lost her ring in the sand at the beach. She had been sitting on her towel when a bee landed on her, she began swatting at it to make it fly away, and got up to flee the ornery critter. After the commotion she looked to see that the ring she had been given for graduation was gone. She had not left the area, so I told her I would be right over to conduct the search.

When I got to the beach, I walked out to where she said she would be, and as soon as she saw me began to wave me over. She then proceeded to show me what had happened, and how she ran. She was very helpful with the information she provided. I began my search, and after about 5 passes, I had her ring back on her finger. She was too young to grant me permission to use her image here, so you get me this time, as she agreed to take my picture. It was a pleasure to make her day!

Ana contacted me after she had lost her ring in the water at the beach. She had gone into the water, when a wave hit her, knocked her down, and her ring came off only to disappear into the wet sand. It was a ring her father had given her, so it meant a lot to her. When she contacted me the tide was coming in, and the best search opportunity would be the next low tide, so we arranged to meet at the beach the next morning.

When we met at the beach, Ana walked me out to the area of the loss, and showed me what had happened. I then got my equipment, set up and began my search. I was going into the water to make sure I was able to do a thorough search. I made about 20 passes, finding little, but some nails, and a few coins, until I got a good solid signal, I scooped and pulled out a nice gold ring which I held up for Ana, who was very surprised to see it again. It was so great to restore her joy!

I got a call from Francisco letting me know he had lost his car keys in the sand at the beach, and was hoping I could help. There was no way for him to get home, so I let him know that I would leave immediately to do a search for him.

When I got to the area we met, and Francisco and his girlfriend took me out to the spot they believed the keys to have been lost. I began my grid, and made quite a few passes with the finding of a lot of trash metal, but no keys. They then motioned me over to another area, thinking the keys might have been lost there. I began a new search, and during the first pass, got a solid signal, scooped the sand, and had his keys in my hand. I held them up for him to see, and he being so happy to have them back, came over and gave me a big hug. It was so nice to be able to help!

I got a call from Bella yesterday about the loss of her ring in the sand of the beach. Her mother had given her the ring two years prior, and it had a lot of sentimental value to her. She had put it in her bag, and sometime while removing things from the bag the ring fell out into the thick soft sand, and disappeared. I told her I would be there as soon as possible.

When I got to the beach, I walked out and found Bella and her friend. They showed me where they believed the ring fell out of the bag, and I could see the drag marks in the sand where they had been searching for it. I turned on the detector, and began my search. I found one piece of scrap metal, and then a couple of passes more, got a good clear signal, dug, and in the scoop was Bella’s ring which I immediately held up for her. She came right over very happy, and I dropped the ring in her hand. She seemed very relieved that I was able to find this gift from her mother. A great day!

Keith called me for a search of a church rectory and children’s play yard. The rectory had recent work, and they were worried about nails and other pointy things left over from the construction, and he also wanted me to check the play yard for dangerous items. I let him know this would be possible, and we arranged a time to meet.

When I got to the church, Keith met me, and showed me where to search. I began, and found that there were many deep items, but not much surface items, but I was able to find some around the rectory. After searching the rectory, we went over to the play area, where in the crumbled tire mulch that surrounded the equipment I was able to find many items that could have caused serious injury to the children. After I finished Keith seemed very happy to know that the children would be safer.
