Lost Tungsten Ring Found in Dexter Michigan

From the summer of 2024 to summer of 2025, Austin found it hard to believe that the year had passed so quickly. While him and the family enjoyed the new house, it was time to move again but around a year ago his wedding ring went missing. With 2 weeks left to vacate the house he often paused-rewound-replayed the events over the last year musing over where it may be. When I arrived, he had 2 locations he had a good vibe about. One was in an area where he was picking up the children’s toys for the winter and the other was in the neighbor’s yard while he was helping them install rabbit fence around a garden. I selected Track 1- “toys” and started grid searching with my MXT metal detector but all I heard was hissing/popping/crackle sounds thru my headphones from bad ground. Selecting Track 2 “rabbit fence” I started to metal detect the area and got a sweet-sounding tone thru the headphones. Digging down an inch revealed that the sweet melodious tune I heard was from Austin’s tungsten ring! As he reached down to pick up the ring, he was thrilled that we cued up the right track and it wasn’t just his imagination.

Lost Platinum Ring w/Diamonds Found in Ann Arbor Michigan

Barking Up the Wrong Tree…..

While Josh was walking his dogs down a trail, the dog leashed to his right hand bolted after a squirrel that zoomed across the trail. Taken by surprise, the force pulled Josh’s balance off and he fell to the ground. The leash came off his wrist and the dog raced to the tree jumping up and down convinced the squirrel was still around. Meanwhile, Josh managed to get to his feet and got control over the other dog who wanted in on the action. Finally, the 3 of them continued on the trail. A few hundred feet was travelled when Josh noticed his ring missing. Going back to the area where the melee occurred, he couldn’t see his ring, and with dusk setting in they went back to the car. I started a grid search with my MXT metal detector where Josh remembered the incident had taken place. Checking both sides of the trail revealed nothing but as I got near the base of the tree, I got a good signal, and by the sound and meter number could only mean on thing,,,,Josh’s ring! When he reached down and picked it up, we recalled how bummed out the dog must have felt about not getting the squirrel, but Josh was seriously happy that we were on the right trail and got to the root of the real matter!

Broken Sprinkler Solenoid Buried in the Ground, Found in Calabash, NC

On Wednesday, Sept 10, 2025, I got a phone call from Jeff, owner of JDs Detectors, saying he had a gentleman, Kenneth in the store wanting to rent a metal detector. Jeff said Kenneth was trying to find a broken sprinkler solenoid in his yard. Jeff told Kenneth that instead of renting a detector to contact me to help. Kenneth agreed and said he’d call me the next day to set up a time for Friday. Thursday, when Kenneth called, we set up a time of 8 am on Friday.

Friday morning as I pulled into the driveway, Kenneth was coming out of his garage with a bag of mulch. We met and he walked me to the area where the solenoid was buried. He installed the sprinkler system himself, so he pretty much knew where the solenoid was. I turned on the Equinox 800 and tested the replacement solenoid. I had to make sure I could detect either the wire or the screws holding the plastic unit together. I had to switch the detector mode to park 2 but it came through loud and clear. I turned around, took a couple of steps and hit it. Kenneth took the red flag he had and as he stuck it in the ground, he made contact with the solenoid. He was going to dig it up a little later and replace it. So, unfortunately the only picture I got was the red flag sticking out of the ground me pointing to the flag in the ground.

Citadel Ring Lost in the Ocean, Found and Returned Myrtle Beach SC

This Citadel Ring search started on Sep 9th, 2025, just before 3 pm when I got a text message from Anna Grace saying, “Hello Jim, I found your info on Ring Finders. My husband just lost his Citadel ring in the surf about 18 inches deep. We are vacationing at the Myrtle Beach Travel Park. If you felt like you had the time to help us look, we would really appreciate it, but honestly it could be gone forever.” I took a quick look at the tide table and saw that low tide was in 30 minutes. I called Anna Grace and got a few more details and told her I was on my way. I also ask her to send me the address, which she did.

I arrived in less than 15 minutes and met Anna Grace’s husband, Taylor at the street entrance. I followed him to the house where they were staying. I parked my car and jumped into his golf cart and headed for the beach. When we got to the beach, I asked Taylor what the north and south boundaries were in relation to where he was. I started at the north boundary and did a perpendicular to the beach, east/west grid search out to about thigh to hip deep. I had my Equinox 800 and knew, from another Citadel ring search I had about a week ago, that I’d be looking for a 20/21 number on the VDI (visual display indicator). I got one target, which turned out to be a pull tab. When I reached the southern boundary, I stayed out in waist deep water and worked a parallel grid search working my way towards shore. I didn’t get any signals on that search. So, I decided to start over and extend both north and south boundaries and went back to an east/west grid search. As I started at the southern boundary, I was watching Taylor as I searched and I could tell by his body language, he was losing hope. Got to the end of the north side and kept going. By now the tide had turned and I was now in waist to almost chest deep water. As I started my second or third turn back out in the water – BA BOOM!!! I looked at the numbers and there was the 20-21 I was looking for. I knew I had Taylor’s ring. I took a scoop of sand and washed it out in the surf and heard the clang of a ring inside the scoop. I looked in and saw his beautiful ring at the bottom of the scoop. I looked at Taylor and nodded towards shore. I wasn’t going to keep him in suspense any longer and stopped knee deep and held the scoop up so he could see inside. He saw his ring, reached in and grabbed it and confirmed the engraving on the inside of the ring. His body language changed quickly. We rode back up to the house and Anna Grace came out and was so excited. I love putting smiles back on the faces and getting an item back where it belongs.

Silver Ring Lost in Bushes, Found and Returned Little River, SC

About 2-3 weeks ago the next-door neighbor Jim, knocked on the door. He said that Taylor, a friend of his daughter, had lost a special silver ring in the yard. I grabbed my Equinox 800 out of the garage and made my way next door. Taylor was out there, and I asked her what happened. She explained that as she was walking to her car, she was running into spiders hanging down out of the tree. As she was swinging at the spiders to get them out of the way, her ring flew off her finger. I turned on the detector and searched the front yard with no luck. Unfortunately, there was a bush that was maybe 5 feet tall and very thick right in the line of fire. I searched under, over and behind the bush the best that I could and still couldn’t find it.

Well, I got busy, and it slipped my mind until I was standing in my driveway, and it hit me. I grabbed my pin pointer and set the detecting distance to about 3 inches. I went over to the bush, sat on the ground and started reaching as far as I could under the bush. About a quarter of the way around the bush, I stuck the pin pointer under the bush and got a solid tone. Wasn’t sure what I hit but it was metal. I reached up under the bush, felt around and felt her ring. Just as I found it, the neighbor, Jim pulled into his driveway. He called Taylor and gave her the good news. She was excited and said she thought the ring was gone for good. I gave Jim the ring and am waiting for Taylor to pick it up and get a picture of her smile.

Woman’s White Gold Wedding Band Lost in the Sand, Found and Returned Myrtle Beach SC

On Monday, September 1st, just before 5:30 pm, I received a text from Laura K. saying, “Can you help me? My wedding band is gone.  Somewhere near 14th street pier. I Scoured where I know it happened. It must have gotten pushed under the sand. Less than an hour after I knew it was gone, I checked on my hands and knees for 20 minutes.” I immediately replied saying, “Call me,” with my phone number. I didn’t hear anything back from her so I figured she found it. I woke up a little late this morning, but had a text from 5:57 am saying, “I missed this last night, sorry! When is good to call? Can you get out there today?? As I’m getting ready to respond, I get a phone text from Laura at 9:02 am saying, “good morning, Jim, this is Laura K. I didn’t want to call you too early, but I can use your help finding my ring asap if you’re available.” This time I had a number to call and called Laura. I told her that unfortunately I had a scheduled search at noon but would probably be available between 3-4 pm. After finishing up the first search, I called Laura, and we agreed to meet at 3:30 pm. Just after 2:30 pm, I got another text from Laura saying, “We will be back in the next 18 minutes. We will wait for you by the Holiday Pavilion Resort Tiki bar right on the boardwalk. I texted Laura back that I’d be there at 3 pm.

When I arrived, I called her to get an idea of where she was on the beach and made my way towards her. When we met, she led the way to where her and her family had been the day before. She pointed out a small area, maybe 10’X5’. I confirmed I was looking for a white gold ring, so I knew the vdi (visual display indicator) on my Equinox 800 would give me a number between 10-12. I started a north/south grid line and on my third line, I hit it!! I got a solid 10 and had no doubt. I took a scoop of sand, checked the hole and had her ring in my scoop. I gently shook the sand out and saw Laura’s ring in the bottom of the scoop. She was standing about 10 feet behind me and watching her kids. So, I held up the ring over my shoulder until she glanced at me and saw me holding her ring. I think it took her a split second to close the distance between us to take her ring. She was extremely excited and called to her husband that I had found it. They were a very excited and gracious couple that gave me a hug from Laura and a handshake from her husband, Chris to close the deal.

Engagement Ring Lost in the Sand, Found and Returned Surfside SC

This little adventure started on Sept. 1, 2025, just before 9 am, when I received a text message from Piper saying, “Good morning, my name is Piper K., and I lost my engagement ring yesterday at the beach on Surfside. We looked absolutely everywhere, and I think it’s gone for good. But I ended up finding out about ring finders, so I thought I’d give it a try. Is there any way you could help?” I called her and got a few more details like, time of loss, in the ocean or dry sand, if the ocean – how deep? She told me it was lost about noon and in the dry sand. She also mentioned that she had taken the ring off and put it on a towel. As they were leaving, the towel was picked up and shaken off. This is when she thinks the ring was lost. Thankfully she lost it before high tide, so we had a good shot at it around low tide. I asked her to send me the address, which she did. I checked the tide tables and text her that I’d be there about 7 pm. This would put us about 2 hours before low tide. She agreed so we had a plan.

I showed up at the address she provided and let her know I was there. Piper, her fiancé Jordan and her brother met me in the driveway, and we walked a short distance to the beach. Piper showed me the north boundary line, and I had Jordan mark off the south boundary line. I started a north/south grid and after about my 5th line – BOOM! I dug a scope of sand, dumped it out on the beach and spread it out with my foot. I saw her ring, picked it up and held it so Piper could see it. I love the expressions I see when they see their treasure after thinking it was lost forever.

Citadel Ring Lost, Found in the Dry Sand and Returned Pawley’s Island SC

On Saturday, August 30th, I received a call from Tabathia saying her husband Matt had lost his Citadel Ring in the surf and asked if I could help find it. She explained that Matt was rinsing his hands off at the ocean’s edge when he noticed his ring was gone. She also mentioned that they got caught in a rainstorm and had to quickly pack up and run for the car. I agreed to help and took a look at the tide tables. Neither that evening nor the next morning was going to work. We agreed to meet at 6 pm on Sunday and I could work the outgoing tide. Tabathia sent me a text with the address and confirming some of the other details.

Sunday evening, I sent Tabathia a text telling her I was on my way. She responded they were also on their way and would give me an update. I was about 15 minutes out and got a text from Tabathia saying, “The parking lot is a mess and full. If you want to text when you are close, I can try to get up there to get you a space.” As I was driving down the street to get onto the beach parking, the cars were lined up bumper to bumper. As I got closer to the lot, I noticed a parking area that was chained off with a man across the street from it barbequing. I took a shot and rolled down my window and explained to him that I was going to look for a man’s Citadel ring on the beach and pointed to my sign on the side of the car. Without hesitation, he walked across the street and moved the chain so I could pull it the spot. He wished me luck and I made my way to the beach to meet Matt who was waiting for me. As Matt and I made our way to meet Tabathia and their 3 children, he showed me the area his ring should be in. I met Tabathia and went to work searching from the top of the slope out to about thigh deep. After doing the slope with no luck, the 3 of us came up with plan B of searching the top of the slope. Matt and Tabathia, both showed me the approximate area they had been set up the day before. I did about 5 lines and hit a monster of a signal, a couple of scoops of sand and I saw Matt’s gold Citadel ring in the sand. I picked it up, walked back to where they were sitting and held it up for them to see. Their expressions were priceless, which is why I love finding people’s lost treasures and getting it back where it belongs.

Lost Tungsten Ring in the Sand Found in Westland Michigan

A Fist Pump Serve…..

….was all Dennis could hope for as he spiked the ball down to score the winning point on the volleyball court as darkness fell upon the game. With a successful win the players congratulated one another with high 5’s and danced around on the court. After Dennis got home he noticed his ring missing. Rushing back to the court he looked around in the dark with no luck. On site he showed me what went on. I had 3 places the ring could be. Either side of the court or the opposite side of the court out in the thick grass. I elected to start in the area he was standing when the final serve was given. My MXT metal detector was wanting to score but gave no signals until I was right under the net. A very nice signal came thru. Pushing thru the sand with my pin-pointer metal detector revealed his ring! Dennis was totally surprised that the ring was there and felt even more victorious that this meeting at the net scored another memorable victory of a different kind that will last a lifetime.

Lost and found diamond wedding ring Cobourg Ontario

Received a text last evening from Terry about him loosing his Diamond wedding band while at Cobourg beach yesterday afternoon. While wrestling with his son, in waist deep water, he felt his ring slip off his finger. We decided to meet at the beach right away to find his ring and not wait til the following day as there are many detectorists looking for lost jewelry, especially after a weekend. Terry was pretty sure he could get me within a 20×20 feet area where the ring had slipped off. Unfortunately, the beach and water looks quite different in total darkness. After an hour or so of gridding the area, took a break and Terry infoed me he had to get back home for work the next day. I decided to stay and keep looking. Another hour into the hunt, and after jewelry targets including a ring, I finally found his beautiful ring. I drove to his home and returned his ring. He was extremely happy and very emotional to be reunited with his ring. Another great recovery. Life is good!!!
