*** Donnie called me while he was driving to a local sporting goods store to buy a metal detector. His son Cameron had lost his cell phone at Newport Beach the night before. The phone was important because it had a special photo of Cameron’s mother who had past away recently. The photo was inserted into a custom phone case and there were no duplicates.

I was just finishing a search less than a mile away from the location he told me the phone was lost. It was an Iphone that was still transmitting its location on the lost my phone app. I told him,  I could find the phone and could meet him within twenty minutes.

I finished up what I was doing and we both drove up to the site at the same time. We walked out on the beach and the phone showed up soon after I turned on my detector swinging for about twenty feet. They had spent almost two hours trying to find the Iphone by hand searching before calling for help. I saved Donnie the cost of buying a detector and probably a lot of frustration. The phone was actually in wet saltwater sand that most inexpensive hobby detectors can not handle. It was a pleasure to be available to help them.. They were so thankful, and I could tell this photo meant the world to the both of them.

*** Lianne called me asking for help finding her ring that she had lost last night at Santa Monica Beach, CA. Like most of my calls, she wanted to know how my service works. Every search is different, so I need a few minutes on the phone to discuss basic information. There are situations where the person can not meet me at the location. With good information I can do a search without the person meeting me at the location. I have a basic fee to help with my travel expenses. We are usually able to take care of that by electronic money transfers after I do the search.

Lianne could not leave work but she gave me very good idea of how the ring was lost and she was within 30 feet from the north side of a lifeguard tower. She did feel the ring come off her finger. (a bonus clue, many times people don’t have an idea when the loss occurred ). I agreed to drive to the location at Santa Monica Beach.. She said, if I had anymore questions she could take phone calls anytime. We were also able to do FaceTime calls on our iPhones. That did  help because when I arrived at the parking lot there was a little confusion about the lifeguard tower number. We straightened out that problem using a FaceTime phone call.

After clarifying the lifeguard tower number I was able to recovery Lianne’s ring after after a short grid search. Lifeguard towers in Southern California are usually not moved except in the winter.. I understand that on the east coast of our country they move lifeguard towers where they have flat beaches with lone tide movement.

After notifying Lianne, I called her , offering to deliver her ring if she was available. It worked out fine because her work place was just a few blocks my drive home. Actually we met at lunch time. She was very surprised that we had accomplished the search, recovery and return using our cellphones and the mapping apps. The RingFinders directory service works because of the internet and all the new technology we have today. I love what I do !

George called me early in the morning asking for help to find his white gold wedding ring. He was sure it was lost while he was with his family at Lighthouse Bay Beach in Newport Beach, CA. His only concern was he had walked several different places while at the beach. He had not been in the water.

Rings slip off fingers at the beach many times because some types of sand have powder like texture that help make the fingers slippery. After asking George if he had been doing any activity that would have caused the ring to slip off, he said he had not. He did know the ring was missing before leaving the beach.

George said he could meet me at the location but it would take him about an hour to drive from his home in Corona, CA. I could be there much sooner so he gave me a good idea of where they had been sitting on the beach. This would be where I could start the process of eliminating potential areas that he could have lost the ring.

I was at the location shortly after our phone conversation. My first grid line was an attempt to see if I could visually recognize where George had searched the sand the night before. Many times it’s easy to see where people have dragged the fingers through the sand attempting to find a lost item. This time I couldn’t see anything indication of a search site. After about a 25 yard straight line grid, I reversed my direction. Then half way back to my starting point I got a nice signal. ” Boom”, digging the target revealed a white gold wedding band in the scoop.

I returned to my car to finish drinking my morning coffee while waiting for George to show up. When  we met he introduced himself and I ask him if he was the ” ARTISTE”.. he was immediately surprised because this was the inscription inside the ring. He knew I had found the ring.

After talking to him he told me, he was afraid the the ring could have been in many places that he had been that day. It was another great day on the beach helping George find his wedding ring.

***  I received a call from Natalie in Long Beach, CA. She had lost her wedding ring in the backyard while pulling weeds. She had put the gold w/ diamonds ring in her back pocket. When she returned to the house the ring was not in her pocket.

I was able to meet her a few hours later. Natalie showed me the small backyard explaining that she had also had her cellphone in the same pocket as her wedding ring. Evidently the ring came out of her pocket when the she used the cellphone. This is not the first time I’ve heard this same story. It happens quite often because these cellphones have a lip that can drag loose items out of a pocket.

I started by checking the pile of weeds that had been pulled. Then I began the grid search of the 40’x 40’ lawn. It is an older piece of property with a lot of pieces of metal trash in the lawn. I usually search in all metal mode setting with my metal detector. This being a small yard I discriminated out the ferrous metals.

Halfway through the yard I had two similar signals very close to each other. One was a pull tab and the other was Natalie’s beautiful gold diamond wedding ring. It was another successful ring recovery. Natalie was very happy and relieved that she didn’t have to lose sleep worrying about if she could find her ring.

*** Kristal had been married less than a month before losing her white gold diamond wedding ring. She lives in an apartment complex with a nice work out gymnasium near the pool. She walked the half block from her apartment to do a routine exercise session. She had not left her new wedding at her residence, so she wrapped it in her face mask putting in a hand bag. Her idea was protect it from being scratched.

After exercising she walked back to the apartment along a sidewalk. She had been holding the face mask in her hand but didn’t put it on. When she got back home the ring was missing.

One week of checking the grass along the sidewalk, reporting the loss to management, the gardeners, community online forum and posting flyers the ring was still missing.

Kristal called me saying that I was her last hope. We met and she walked me through where she had been when the ring disappeared. The first thing I told her was we are beginning the search now as we walk the path she took that evening. We got to a street crossing and she didn’t want to go any further. I asked that she show me the entire route to make sure I can clear the grassy hiding places. I had not set up to use my metal detector.

As we walked, we visually spotted the white gold diamond wedding ring on the surface of the grass. It had survived the lawnmower and many people that could have easily spotted it. Kristal was more than elated, a very happy and amazed young bride. She told me that she’d  never forget this moment.

This has happened several times where we spot the missing item on the initial walk through. What made this different was that it was lying there for over a week and she said, she had probably walked passed it 20 times. Also, it was a very public area with lots of foot traffic. Moral to the story, “Don’t give up just before the miracle happens

*** Dan and his wife live 60 miles from Dana Point, CA. Their favorite get a way place is Salt Creek Beach which is an Orange County, CA. Beach Park.

He called me asking for help to find his wife’s wedding ring. Most likely lost in the sand. He described it as a small size 3-1/2 white gold ring with small diamonds half way around the ring.

He said he could drive to the beach later that afternoon. I was ready to get on the road to begin the search a couple hours before he could meet me. We agreed that I could start the search earlier using a marked up Google map screen shot. At the beach, timing is number one priority. It’s also very important that someone can guide me to the general location. Most the time when people leave the area of the loss, it’s confusing to find the exact area.

As it worked out I had another call to take care of and I was still able to meet Dan at Salt Creek Beach later that afternoon. The beach goers we’re clearing out which makes it easier to properly grid search thoroughly. He showed me approximately where they had been. I started at the north end, working south. After an hour I was nearing the end of the site he gave me. He then said it could have been more to the south. That was a good move because I got a small white gold ring signal after three more passes. Amazing to see such a small ring in my scoop. These type rings can be missed by many detectors especially in the sand.

Dan was about losing hope but I got to see his big smile and excitement when he picked the ring out of the scoop. A great day at the beach.

**** Faye and her husband Riley were at Huntington City Beach, Orange County, CA. with their two young sons. She had lost her wedding ring near their beach blanket after removing it to apply sun screen.. The area of the loss should have been in a 20’x20’ area.

They had another person with a metal detector searched the location with no success. I was called, asking if I was close enough to help. Fortunately I was just a mile away and was at the location within 15 minutes.

When I arrived Riley described the ring as a small white gold woman’s wedding ring that had small diamonds 3/4 around the band. These can be elusive especially if laying on edge in the sand. Then they did recall two incidents where she went outside the original search site.

They had been searching for several hour by now. As I completed 5 passes of my grid, Riley got a call from his wife who was waiting in the car a the parking lot. She told Riley that this was ”MisSion Impossible ” she was ready to give up and go home.

At the very same moment I dug the signal discovering her wedding ring in my sand scoop. He was elated, then without calling his wife, we walked over to the parking lot. He approached the car not saying a word. He held up the ring for Faye to see. Boom! her eyes lit up then the tears of joy started to flow. We still didn’t under stand why the first detector missed the ring. The ring was recovered and back where it belongs. The important thing was the ring was found. . A very happy couple and it was a pleasure to be a available to help them..

Lost Ring Working Out with Hula Hoop on the Sand in Laguna Beach, CA. .. Found after a Long Search

**** I was called to help Ella find her engagement ring that she thought may have been lost at Laguna Beach, CA.

Ella and her fiancé had been staying at a hotel on the beachfront. The weather had been a bit chilly, keeping people off the beach. Ella regularly works out with a hula hoop, so she thought it would be nice to work out on the beach with her hula hoop. She was sure her engagement ring was on before walking to the beach. After returning to the room she discovered her heirloom engagement ring was missing. The situation involved walking to and from the beach plus an hour and a half of walking two or three blocks at waterline of the beach.

I met her shortly after she called me. We were fortunate that the tide was receding. It was going to be raining so I came prepared with rain gear. We were not quite sure that the ring had been lost at the beach area, but that was where she did the most physical activity. I told Ella that if the ring was there, I could find it. If it didn’t show up we can eliminate that area, so she can check the other locations she had been.

Ella couldn’t stay, which was a good thing. I knew that this was going to be a long search. After three and a half hours, there was just a small area remaining. I was already trying to think of what I would text Ella. Then I got a strong signal that turned out to be Ella’s ring. I was surprised and happy that I could send a successful recovery text with a photo of the ring.

She replied right away saying she had given up hope and had figured I didn’t stay to search in the rain. We met two days later when she had time to pick up the ring. This was my first hula hoop ring loss and recovery. What’s next?

… John and his wife were enjoying their last day of their vacation at Santa Monica Beach, CA. He stood up near their blanket in the dry sand brushing sand off his leg, when his gold wedding ring went flying into the sand.

He was able to locate me online at TheRingFinders website. I made arrangements to meet him at the location  Our main concern was that he had to catch a flight back to Denver, Colorado soon. He might only have 15 minutes to show me the area of the loss. I suggested that he mark the spot with some markers and continue to grab into the sand. There was always a chance that traffic could delay my arrival.

I parked very close to our meeting place. They were still at the location. It was one of those quick recoveries because John called me shortly after the accidental loss and he stayed at the location. All searches are not this easy but we at TheRingFinders know how to conduct a proper search using the most efficient metal detecting equipment.

John and his wife were able to catch their flight home with his wedding ring on his finger.

Metal Detector Specialist Recovers Stud Earring in Grass .. City of Orange, CA

“I FIND JEWELRY”  call Stan the Metal Detector Man if you need  help ..  949-500-2136

… Kristen had taken her afternoon walk with her children and their dog. They were at a neighborhood park when she went to adjust her small stud style earring. The dog got a little excited pulling on her hand that held the earring and it went flying into the grass.

Several of her neighbors attempted to find the stud earring. They even had a metal detector which couldn’t find her favorite piece of jewelry.

The next day, one of Kristen’s friends suggested that she go online to call a ring finder. That was how she found me. I met her a couple hours after our phone conversation.

Kristen had the matching earring which helped me set up my metal detector. We walked a couple blocks to the park where she showed me a small area in the grass, 10’ x 20’. She couldn’t stay which wasn’t necessary because I had all the information I needed.

I decided to use my high frequency settings on my metal detector. The search site was fairly free of metal trash signals which helped to make it a quick recovery. Also,  the earring was .925 silver making it an easier target to identify.

After getting the signal I was looking for, I took a look into the grass and the only thing visible was the thin post. It seems to be normal for these stud earrings to fall with the heavier end downward.

It was a good feeling to recover this because these small earrings are always a challenge. Kristen was very happy to get this back. It had special sentimental meaning to her.

Exactly why I love being able to do these recoveries.
