.. Keri and her family are vacationing in Newport Beach from Salt Lake City, Utah. On the second day of their 7 day vacation she discovered her white gold diamond ring was missing. The family went to the beach that morning and she realized she still was wearing her diamond wedding ring. She put it in the beach bag for safe keeping.

After returning to their summer rental house. She couldn’t find her ring in the bag. They believed the ring may have come out of the bag while they were at the beach. Several members of the family had retrieved items from the bag and it could be possible the ring could be in the sand.

I met them shortly after they called me that evening. After not finding the ring in the dry sand, I learned that they had actually set up their beach chairs below the normal towel line. The tide was high so I agreed to return at 6:30am searching the low tide wet sand. After two hours I had cleared most the low tide area. No ring to be found.

I only had a few minutes before I had to leave for a 9:30 doctor’s appointment. My best move would be to expand the towel line search where Keri’s husband told me they had not been that far south. Guess what ! Yes the ring was there and not down in the wet low tide. Actually nobody could definitely say where the ring came out of the beach bag. Remember Keri didn’t even know the ring was missing until they had returned to their summer rental. Process of elimination is what we were doing, just lucky that the ring was hiding in the sand where a Metal Detector can find it.

*** Brian and his wife, Myriam had been staying a hotel at Laguna Beach. Every year they travel here from Las Vegas to enjoy the beach. This day had been disrupted by the loss of Marian’s white gold diamond wedding ring set. They had been on the beach when they decided to move their small windbreaker tent. Actually they moved it to three different locations 40’ to 50’from the first spot.

The rings had been taken off and put into a small pocket, of the windbreaker. They spent the whole afternoon trying to find the rings with their hands. The hotel management gave them my contact information. Brian called about 8:30 pm asking if I could search for the rings. He figured I would come in the morning. It sounded like this could be a easy search and it is only 7 or 8 miles drive. I told him we could do the search now, there is no need for his wife to worry about the rings any longer than she has to.

He sent me the hotel address and said, I would meet him on the beach in a half hour. Parking was not a problem at this time of night. Brian was on the beach to show me the three places the rings could be. I started at the first location with no luck, then the second location, not one metal signal from my detector. I could see a worried look on Brian’s face as I was nearing the last few feet of searchable sand. Then, BOOM!! the first ring gave me a signal I knew had to be a ring. I held it up for Brian to see. Next two swings of the detector the second ring showed up in the scoop.

We shared the joy of the recovery, but I didn’t get to see his wife when she got the good news. Brian wanted to take the rings up to their hotel room for the surprise reveal of rings. Wedding rings are so special and personal, it has been my pleasure to help Brian and Myriam and many others recover the special symbols of love and marriage.

*** Anthony called for help after finding me online. His family and friends were at Emerald Bay in the city of Laguna Beach, CA. His wife Lindsey had taken off her gold and diamond wedding ring setting them on her lap while applying sunscreen on her son. Forgetting the rings were on her lap, she got up to do something and the rings disappeared into the sand.

She didn’t realize that the rings were missing until about  a half hour after the loss. The location was not very large but after several of the family members tried their luck at finding the rings, Anthony saw this was not working. He wasn’t quite sure, but he figured there should be some type of metal detecting service. A google search pulled up my contact information.

Emerald Bay is a private beach that is only 5 miles from where I live. I’ve done several recoveries at that beach. They do have to set up permission for me to enter through the security gate which Anthony took care of. I cruised in and directly to the beach where about a dozen people were waiting to see how this works.

Briefly, Lindsey explained to me what had happened, pointing to a small area of sand. She said the two rings were white gold with diamonds. That is all I needed, setting up my new XP Deus 2 metal detector then started a grid search. A few swings Boom! The bi g engagement ring in the scoop.  Two feet away Bam! the wedding ring.. Boom, Bam ! Both rings and many happy people especially Lindsey who had felt guilty for making such a mistake. I assured her that, this happens so often, they won’t believe how many calls we get with this same scenario. I don’t know how many times people give up, because they didn’t know they could find a member of TheRingFinders near them.

We like the easy searches, there are times when we search for hours before finding the item. If the item is there I have the experience, the equipment and the time to find your valuable. The fact is there are so many variables as to how the loss occurred we can’t tell how long it will take. We have to give credit to the internet and the new technology for these successful searches. Years ago we only had the yellow pages and word of mouth. Now we google search, use our cellphones and  use our GPS, etc.

**** I had been called to double check a parking lot and planters where an earring had been lost the week before.. The odds were not favorable because it was a public area with not many places to hide an earring. At the last minute Daniel called to say he could not meet me at the location. Too much time had passed already so I decided to give it a try anyway.

While I was standing in the parking lot with a pinpointer in my hand, I was approached by a security guard named Emannuel. He asked me what I was doing. After explaining that I was searching for a lost earring. He asked me if I could find a gold ring. He said it was very special to him as it was gifted to him by his late father who had worn it for many years. I could see that Emannuel was beginning to tear up just describing how much it meant to him.

He was a little reluctant to tell me the location until I told him I was a member of TheRingFinders. I thought maybe it may have been lost at another location. It was a surprise to find out that the ring had come off his finger just the other side of the building where we were standing.  Just before Christmas, about five months ago Emannuel had been brushing rain water off the seat of his motorcycle when his gold ring flew off his finger. There were several thick bushes near the location and he had torn through them several times in an effort to find the ring. There was even an area where the rain water drained off into a culvert.

Emannuel was still working, so I began a general search with my detector. The shrubbery was very thick and I went right away to my Garrett AT pinpointer. Just probing into the base of the plants. After several pieces of tinfoil and a pull tab. I reached into examine signal from the pinpointer and my finger slipped into a ring. BINGO!! That special ring that he had described to me. Five months laying there in the thick shrubs just yards away from where Emannuel worked everyday. It must have been frustrating for him know something a special as his dad’s ring was possibly lost forever.

Needless to say the smile and the gratitude expressed by him was priceless. The original list earring was never recovered. In some situations timing is important. If Emannuel had known about theringfinders he may have saved five months of frustration. The important thing is his ring is where it belongs.

….. Patty called me late in the afternoon from her home in Santa Ana, California. Her daughter had lost a Tiffany ring in the backyard while throwing toys for her dogs.  After a couple hours of searching they could not locate the ring in the small grassy backyard. They were at their wits end when a neighbor suggested they contact a metal detecting service.

Patty located me through TheRingFinders directory. We discussed the circumstances of the loss, after hearing that it was a recent loss and her daughter felt the ring come off her finger, I was confident that this was going to be an easy search. These rings usually get stepped on which puts them out of site.

We had less than an hour before sunset when I arrived to meet the family. The back yard was small, maybe 20ft by 35ft of grass with a small 30” wide raised planter next to a 6ft wall. The planter only had a few large palm plants with a lot of recently tilled exposed soil.

Several cross grids scans with my metal detector over the grass were unsuccessful. I was getting frustrated because they insisted that the ring went straight ahead into the grass. It was already dark after an hour, so as a last resort, I took my pinpointer (handheld detector) to check the planter. BOOM!! .. the ring was located with just an edge of the ring exposed. There was not any  other places to search.

Everybody was excited essentially Patty’s daughter who had received this ring as a gift for he fifteenth birthday,  a very important day of her life.

After talking to Patty about who recommended me, we discovered that I had found a ring for neighbor last year. That ring was found at 2 am after being lost in the surf for 4 days. It is a small world that brings people’s experiences together to help others with their problems. I’m getting more input from people that are hearing about TheRingFinders directory. It’s awesome to be a part of this service that has evolved with the help of the internet.
