Lost Keys Found In Ski Area

Got a message from a student at Vermont Technical College last night…..Go Green Knights! He had been snowboarding at the college’s ski area. I went down this evening, knowing that it was probably his only set of keys, and knowing how much they cost these days to replace. He needed his car so he could go to work this Sunday. He turned on the trail’s lights and I thought oh no, this could be a very long hunt! Also, the weather was getting cold and windy fast. I planned on going back Saturday to hunt more if needed. After about an hour of searching and many false signals, luck panned out! He was so relieved and I was very happy.

Met a very sweet, newlywed young couple today. They were out doing yard work yesterday when he lost his wedding ring. He was raking and bagging leaves in the back yard of the house they just moved into one week ago! It was a quick and successful search. They were so happy!! He’s going to get it resized very soon. She offered me food and he gave me 2 huge boxes of DVD movies! I love this hobby!

Wedding Ring Found Near Burlington Vermont

I got an email from a lady who asked me to help find a “very special” ring, her husband’s wedding band was lost. After realizing it was missing he thought back until the last time he knew he had it on his finger. He figured it was probably somewhere in their yard. He had been out washing their motor coach, loading motorcycles onto a trailer, and giving some attention to one of their 4 rescue dogs. The grass was still pretty lush and deep, so it could easily be hiding a ring. She and her husband just got married in September, so this really shook them both up. He went back to the jewelry store and purchased an identical ring, but after wearing it for a day he stilled missed that original ring. Many people have told me that the original ring is the one that is really connected to their heart! I was recommended to her to help look for his ring, so she contacted me. I went right over after getting out of work. She showed me the areas he had been and I began the search. We got all excited when a good tone rang out, but it was one of their dog’s tags. The sun went down and it was getting cold fast. A little while later another tone sounded good, and their it was, deep in the grass and still in pristine condition! I handed it to her and the relief and happiness took over. I was so happy for them, I love helping people!

3 Rings Found Near a Lakeside Camp in Vt

  • from Barre (Vermont, United States)

I don’t usually write about an unsuccessful ring search, but this one I had to share, because it was 3 very special rings that were lost. Any unsuccessful search is very hard for me, because all lost rings are very important and sentimental. I take all searches to heart and try my hardest on every one. I hate to walk away and leave someone feeling sad. Luckily, most of my searches have had happy endings with the rings back where they belong. I love the happy tears, the hugs, the happy dances and the huge smiles when I find their lost rings!

About a week ago I got a call from a young woman from Montreal. She had been working in the kitchen of a youth Summer camp here in Vermont. About a week earlier her 3 rings became lost. She had put them in her apron pocket while making bread. These rings were extremely special to her, all were gifts from family members and her husband. One was from her grandmother, another was given to her by her mother while she was in her last days, and the third one was her wedding ring with her husbands name engraved inside.

She was devastated and broken-hearted. All the workers at the camp and even all the kids that were there helped her search for hours and days. No luck. Someone then told her about my listing on The Ring Finders website and figured the service was worth a try.

We made arrangements to go to the camp and search last Saturday. She got permission from the camp’s owner for me to detect there. My fiancee went along to help, knowing how important it was and how hard the search might be. The woman also brought her husband and a friend to help. I got detailed descriptions of all 3 rings and began the search. She showed us all the places where they might have fallen out of the apron. Unfortunately, most of the places were either on wooden floors or hard-packed dirt with little or no grass….places where the rings could have easily been spotted and picked up by someone. We searched hard for a couple hours and then sat down to eat an awesome lunch she had brought for us all. We had a nice visit and got to know them all a little. After lunch we all searched again for a couple more hours. I have a lot of confidence in my detectors and felt like our chances of getting a signal with 3 rings out there should be even greater than looking for just 1 lost ring. We had no luck except for finding a nice old horseshoe which I gave her.

I hated to quit and and I hated to tell her that I was 99% sure that someone had already picked them up. I suggested that she give a very detailed description and her contact info to the camp’s owner to keep. I also said that if one of the kids had taken it home, that it might eventually get returned to the camp. Or possibly, someone’s conscience might get the best of them. It was tough leaving them, but I promised to get back there and try again someday. The owner of the camp was totally okay with me trying it again.

Last night I got an email from her. She forwarded an email from the camp owner that her rings had been found!! There was also a picture showing the 3 rings. Someone had picked them up, brought them to the office and gave them to a woman working there. Unfortunately, it was the woman’s last day working at the camp. She put them in her desk and never told anyone about it.

Luckily the right person had picked them up. We were so happy for her, 3 very important rings were back where they belonged. The lucky horseshoe and my fiancees prayers worked!

Lost Wedding Ring Found in Montpelier Vermont

Last week I got an email from a guy who lost his wedding ring. His dogs go to work with him and around 11:00 each day he takes them for a walk on nearby trails in the woods. While driving home, he noticed his ring was missing from his finger. It had been getting tight on his fourth finger so he was wearing it on his pinky until he could get it resized. He had been wearing it every day for over 20 years, so it was hard to have it missing.
We made arrangements to meet on a day that he was in town, and do the initial search together so he could show me the areas he had been with the dogs. I asked the usual detective questions like did he fall anywhere, or did he throw a stick or ball for them, etc. He did remember one area where he had to hang onto his energetic dogs while a strange dog walked by. So, I suggested we concentrate there first. After a quick search near his office, we went up to that spot. A nice strong signal rang out and I reached down with the pinpointer. There it was, out of sight, pushed down into the soft soil by someone stepping on it. We cleaned it up and it was still in perfect condition. Sure seemed nice to have it back where it belonged, he was very happy and so was I! I love these successful searches!

I received a very nice thank you letter from him:
“Mike, I cannot tell you how many people have heard this story and were amazed (myself included). You are a good man and are doing a great thing……I will never be able to look at the ring again without thinking of this. Thanks again”

A couple weeks ago I was out doing some random metal detecting for fun and to keep skills up. Found lots of interesting things and a big shiny ring came up! It was a class ring from a nearby high school with the year 2008 on it. It didn’t take much work to clean it up and it was still in brand new condition. Inside the ring it was engraved with the person’s name….very smart of him! My girlfriend found him on Facebook and we made arrangements to meet and give his ring back. He was very happy and had no idea where he had lost it.

Lost Wedding Ring Found at a Public Beach in Vermont

I got an email last night from a lady who was swimming with her grand kids at a large beach 3 days ago when she lost her wedding and engagement ring. She and her husband had gone back a couple times and spent many hours looking for it. They had even gotten the help of a local metal detectorist who had some very nice equipment. But, the ring was not giving up easily on it’s hiding game! She told me by phone approximately where she had been relaxing on the beach and wading and floating on a tube with her grand kid. So, this morning I got up early to go search, because the beach was an hour away, and there was going to be a huge crowd there today with the temperatures going near 90 degrees! I wanted to have the best chance before someone else might find it and keep it. I stopped at the park ranger’s cabin and she gave me an enthusiastic “yes” when I asked permission to search way before opening hours. About 20 seconds and 10 feet of searching went by and there was that great signal of gold! I pushed the pinpointer into the sand and it located the ring about 3 or 4 inches down. It was very well protected from sight!
I called her right up and she said she was about to come to the beach and show me where she had been and to help look for it. She was very shocked and happy to hear that I had found it already. I sure love making those calls! I love doing these rescue missions! I love the happy reunions!!

Lost Wedding Band Reunited With a Young Dad in Vermont

  • from Barre (Vermont, United States)
Contact:

Got an email yesterday from a young dad who had lost his wedding band a couple days ago. He had been walking in a pine grove hand and hand with his daughter, who is just a toddler. Apparently she had tugged a little too hard on his ring finger and it fell off in the pine needles. So my fiancee, her granddaughter and I went to the rural town to go search for it. On the way I was little stubborn and didn’t listen to our GPS, so we ended up taking the LONG way around! It sure was a beautiful evening for a ride in a classic, hilly section of VT. We even saw some deer, including a tiny spotted fawn.

The dad had narrowed down the likeliest area to begin the search. With a little coaching on my better detector, my fiancee’s granddaughter was off on the search. Soon her detector rang out with a strong gold signal. She pushed some pine needles to the side and there it was. The dad was so happy and relieved it was back on his ring finger!

What timing this hunt was, just in time for Father’s Day!

Property Markers Found In Vermont

I was out on a ring finding mission, when a neighbor came over and asked if I could locate her property markers. Her house was for sale and it was very important that they could easily be seen by potential buyers. We could have gotten out her deed and a tape measure and gone from there, but luckily she had a real good idea where they should be, so it didn’t take us long long to find them. I just love helping people find important things!!

Extremely Sentimental Family Ring Found near Rutland Vermont

  • from Barre (Vermont, United States)

Got a call from a very distressed and heartbroken woman Thursday night. She explained to me that her elderly mother had passed away about a week earlier, and had asked that her wedding ring, that she had worn daily for a very long marriage, be given to her granddaughter. She had been wearing it while doing gardening and yard work when it came up missing. The ring wasn’t even close to fitting her!! But, I understand why she was wearing it, it was like a part of her mother and she couldn’t let go of it until it was in her daughter’s hands. I felt real bad for her and told her not to worry, we would find it. So, 2 days later I drove to her house, she walked me all around her property to show me the areas where she had been working, and then we began the hunt. She stayed right with me the whole time because she wanted to be able to see it right when it reappeared. After a long while, we got to the last area to be searched, when I got the magic tone! There it was, in perfect condition, just barely hidden in the dirt. Down came the happy tears!!! I felt so glad for her and her daughter, it was like her mother was right there looking down on us!

Commentary from client:
I don’t quite know how to thank Mike. I lost a ring that had belonged to my mother that (passed away) on Mother’s day, (and was supposed to be) passed along to my daughter. There was so much emotion tied up in the this ring with the connection to my lovely mom! I hunted for six hours on my own, digging through the gardens where I had been working, hunting through, bags of grass seed where I had been planting grass, and sifting through dirt I had dug. I rented a metal detector and came up blank. I called Mike and he kindly came as soon as he could. We spent an hour or two retracing steps and I was beginning to give up hope as I thought that I had looked pretty thoroughly….. Then we heard the beeps and Mike pulled this ring out of the dirt – in a place where I had looked three times! I was so happy I cried!!! It feels like a little part of my mom and I am so happy to be able to pass this on to my daughter. Mike is so kind and so helpful…! I am sure that he has many great stories to tell. Wonderful person!!!
