Lost gold wedding ring, recovered by metal detectorist, Birch Lake, Vandalia Michigan

  • from Granger (Indiana, United States)

Got a text from Dean, who said he had just lost his gold wedding band in Birch lake.
I was in Lake Michigan metal detecting when I got the voicemail on my watch. Packed up and headed over to Vandalia to search in the dark for his missing ring.
He said he noticed it was missing shortly after jumping off of a large floating foam mat to catch a ball, in about 5 feet of water. The bottom is clay muck with prickly weeds and the water clouds up instantly with any disturbance of the bottom. He and his buddies tried looking for the ring, even borrowing a small metal detector from a next door resident.
Got there, geared up(with headlamp), jumped in and it was the typical inland lake targets. Bottlecaps, fishing lure spinners, bullets, sinkers, sunglasses, pulltabs and Bugs, lot’s of Bugs! Eventually heard a nice sounding ring sized signal, scooped it up (very difficult scooping due to the prickly weeds on bottom) and could see a nice shiny gold ring in the scoop.
Dean was ecstatic and overwhelmed with happiness, mentioning that the diamonds in his ring were from his grandmother’s wedding ring, so very sentimental. Glad I was able to help!
