I got a text yesterday afternoon from Denise. She was in a bit of a panic because she had just lost her wedding ring of 40 years at Mondos while she was swimming in the ocean. She was able to give me the exact time of 1:20pm because in her words, she just felt it slip right off in about 6 feet of water while she was swimming. The tide at that time was around a 2.5 so I checked the tides and I had one chance to recover the ring if I could get far enough out in the water and that was at 3:45am the next day.

There were several things stacked against me. She didn’t know exactly how far out she was, there was absolutely no moonlight whatsoever and the beach at Mondo’s has been inundated with seaweed both in the water and on the sand so this was going to be a miracle. So I prayed and got to Mondo’s at 3:30 this morning. With the tide being a -1.3 I was able to get pretty far out but unfortunately not far enough as the ring was further out than I had hoped. I slowly started working my way out and when I was nearly waste deep I finally got a target that made sense. In between waves I positioned my scoop behind my Minelab manticore and dug. Instead of getting it though the waves had caused me to push the target away rather than in my scoop. I steadied myself again, waited for the wave to pass and scooped and this time I had Denise’s ring! Dave The RingFinder with another ring recovery this time in the ocean!

Yesterday afternoon I got  call from Ross explaining that his wife had lost her wedding ring at the beach in the Pierpont area of Ventura. She had been brushing off some sand and in doing so her ring flew off to an unknown stretch of sand. I was out of town at that moment so I told Ross I would get out there at sun up Monday morning and recover the ring for them. He sent me a pin of the general location and I assured him that if it was there I would find the ring.

As stated I got out there just before the sunrise and started working the area gridding and expanding as I went. Jen met me out there and we determined that I should move a bit south and grid there. After several passes we expanded the zone and then on the next pass I got a sweet tone on my Minelab Manticore that told me a ring recovery was imminent and sure enough in the scoop was Jen’s wedding ring! Late last night I got a text from Steve who was camping at ThorneHill Broome Beach just north of Malibu. He and his wife had been stargazing on the sand when he went to get up and as he did his platinum ring fell off and buried itself in the dry sand. It was late, it was dark and searching was futile so Steve did the next best thing and searched the internet and found Dave The RingFinder. I messaged him back that I would be there bright and early the next morning and get his ring back to him so he could enjoy the rest of his camping stay.

I met Steve at 6:45am at the picnic table area where the loss occurred. The problem of finding his ring became apparent almost immediately in that picnic tables at beaches in Southern California are loaded with every bit of metal trash there is. Pull-tabs, rusty bottle caps, chunks of aluminum foil and items burned from fires long ago where all throughout the sand where the ring was lost. This was going to be hunt where I needed to eliminate as much trash as possible so I could actually hear his ring. Scoop after scoop of metal junk came out and finally I had the ability to listen for his ring and within a minute or two I got the sound I was looking for and Steve’s ring was in my scoop and going back to him! I got a call Wednesday afternoon from Valerie who was was vacationing in the Los Angles area from Taos New Mexico. Her family was spending the day at Zuma Beach when her husband Steve accidentally dropped his platinum wedding ring. He had taken it off to put sunscreen on his face and he placed it in his lap while he was sitting for safe keeping. As it often happens, Steve forgot about his ring and went about enjoying the water and the sun. I got a call yesterday afternoon from Grant. His wife had lost her heirloom wedding ring in the sand at Thornehill Broome Beach in Malibu. Evidently she had shaken her hound out to get sand off and when she did her ring went flying and landed somewhere in the dry sand. They spent the next few hours frantically searching in that sand to no avail. Finally they took to the internet and found Dave The RingFinder and gave me a call. I got a text Sunday afternoon from Chris who had been visiting from Texas and while vacationing at Silver Strand Beach in Oxnard had lost his wedding ring boogie boarding. Evidently he had just caught a sweet wave and got up to wave at this his family and off came his wedding ring into the surf. Thinking he still had a chance to find it he went out the next morning and searched the beach at low tide and came away empty handed. Chris shared his situation with a passer by on the beach and he suggested he find a guy who uses a metal detector and that he had heard of a guy who finds rings for people. He went home and found Dave The RingFinder on Chat GPT! Unfortunately Chris and his family had left Oxnard to visit family in Bakersfield and wouldn’t be returning so I was on my own. I got to the beach and began to move in and out of the water gridding perpendicular to the ocean. I had gone almost the entire distance south that he had mentioned when I decided to make a couple more passes before turning north to search. I had only dug two targets in that first hour so I began to theorize that most objects were buried deep. That being said on the next pass I got a solid 41 on the Minelab Manticore in about 6 inches of water and I began to scoop. And there it was, Chris’s wedding ring! It was going back to Texas after all!

I got a text Saturday evening from Damian asking if I could help find his ring. He had been having a picnic at San BuenaVentura Beach in Ventura and had put up a small tent during the course of the feast. Somehow his ring had become dislodged off his finger and had ended up somewhere in the sand. I told his I could be there at sun up and that if his ring was there I would find it.

As I always do I took time out to pray and ask God to help me find his ring and when I arrived at the beach I simply asked for God to direct my steps and lead me right to where Damian’s ring was. The area was large so I started walking to the high tide line to begin my search. I got to the location, turned on my machine, took one step and one swing and got a loud 37 on my Minelab Manticore. I plunged my CKG scoop into the sand and heard the rattle of what could only be a ring and sure enough, there was Damian’s ring. Since Damian had already returned to his home in Los Angeles I agreed to mail him back his ring and now all is well.

I got a text last week from Glynnis who had been visiting Solimar Beach in Ventura with her family. When it came time to put sunscreen on her children she took off her wedding ring and engagement ring and placed them in her pocket for safekeeping. As is often the case she forgot that she had put them in there and after a couple of days realized her rings were gone. She began to retrace her steps and concluded they must have fallen out at the beach.

Glynnis gave me the general location and I headed out that afternoon to see if I could recover her rings. After about 15 minutes of searching I got a faint target on the Minelab manticore on the wet slope of the beach. I put my CKG scoop into the sand and out popped her wedding band. I figured I was in the area now and began slowly detecting the surrounding area but no other targets were there. The area does get detected frequently and I told Glynnis that either she lost it somewhere else or another detectorist picked up her engagement ring. Since she was out of town I told her I would mail her ring to her and that I would keep looking in that area just in case the other ring was buried too deep in the sand for now.
