Sterling Silver Ring Lost In The Old Orchard Beach, Maine Sand, Found With A Metal Detector

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

? ??????? ?LD ORCHARD ????? ??????! ?

? ??? ???? ???? ???????
I just received a text from Claudia asking, “Hey! I heard about you for a ring lost on the OOB Beach.” I texted right back letting her know that yes, I find rings on the beach, and asked if she had just lost one.

?️ ??? ???????????? ???
Claudia explained that she had taken her beautiful sterling silver ring—a precious Valentine’s Day gift from her partner—off and placed it safely on her beach towel before heading into the ocean for a swim with her daughter. Once they came out of the water, her daughter grabbed the towel to dry off… and you know the rest of the story. The silver ring disappeared instantly into the sand! ⚡

? ? ???? ????? ????
Claudia and her group of family and friends—visiting all the way on vacation from Canada, Québec.—started a quick search. However, they quickly and smartly called the search off. They were afraid of accidentally kicking the ring out of the area or pushing it deeper into the sand out of reach of my metal detector. Truly a smart move! ?

? ??? ???? ?? ??? ??????? ?????
I told Claudia I could be at her location in @lOld Orchard Beach in 15 minutes if I could find parking. Cheryl and I loaded up the metal detecting gear and headed straight to OOB. After driving around for 5 minutes looking for a spot, we finally parked about 1/3 of a mile away and walked over to Claudia’s location.

? ????????? ??? ????
Once we arrived, we saw that Claudia and her group had completely cleared the area and placed their beach chairs in a perfect semi-circle to keep the loss zone clear and identifiable. Another great move! I really like these people. ?

? ? ??????? ?? ?????!
I fired up the metal detector and asked ???? ?????? ???????????? ??????????????, ??????, to start rolling the camera. I took exactly two steps and heard the unmistakable tone I was hoping to hear.
Are you serious?! ?
Just two steps and literally 5 seconds into the search, I believed I had already found it. I put the detector down, reached my hand into the sand, felt around, and pulled Claudia’s sterling silver ring, sparkling with stones, right out of the sand! ?✨
(Be sure to watch the video below to see the exact moment it happened!)

? ???????? ????? ??? ????? ????
This was easily one of the fastest recoveries I have ever had. It happened that fast because Claudia and her group had the foresight not to disturb the area, and instead chose to isolate it perfectly by marking it with their beach chairs.
Claudia and her group were all smiles! I cannot stress enough how much Claudia and her crew really helped themselves and me by doing everything exactly right:
* Time is of the essence: Claudia messaged me within minutes of losing her ring.
* Stop searching: They stopped before disturbing the area.
* Isolate the zone: They marked the spot perfectly while keeping others out. ??

? ?? ?? ??? ???? ?????????!
After the smiles, hugs, and handshakes were over, Cheryl and I grabbed our gear and headed back to our vehicle a third of a mile away.
But the day wasn’t over yet!
As soon as we got into the vehicle, the phone rang. Another lost ring phone call! We threw it in drive and headed straight to Point Sebago on Sebago Lake Maine in Casco, Maine. Little did we know, as we left Old Orchard Beach, our ring-finding adventures for the day were just beginning… ??

? ???? ? ???? ?? ????????? ???’? ?????!
If you lose a ring, keys, or other jewelry on the beach or in the grass, remember: Stop searching, mark the area, and call a professional immediately! Time and moving sand are your biggest enemies.

Sterling Silver Wedding Ring Lost In The Sand, Found With A Metal Detector, At Gooch’s Beach, Kennebunk, Maine

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

?‍♀️ ???? ??? ???? ?? ??? ????: ? ??????? ???? ??????? ?? ?????’? ?????! ??
The call to action can arrive at any moment, and on Tuesday, July 21st, late in the morning, a text message popped up on my phone from a client named Kate. The message read: “Hello, I lost a ring this morning on Gooch’s beach. Would you be able to look for it? I believe it is in front of this house in the sand.” Along with the message was a photo of a beach house with its address right there on the Kennebunk coast. ??

I immediately called Kate back to get the crucial details. She explained that she had been out enjoying the morning surf. Before hitting the waves, she took off her precious Sterling Silver Wedding Ring and tucked it safely inside her shirt pocket. Once she was finished surfing, she gathered up her beach gear, packed up, and headed home—completely forgetting the ring was still loose in her pocket. It wasn’t until she arrived home that reality hit, and she realized the ring was gone. ??‍♀️

?️ ??????? ??? ?????? ???? ???? ?????? ?????
I told Kate I would absolutely go search for it, but when it comes to shifting beach sand, a little bit of strategy goes a long way. To pinpoint the location as accurately as possible, I pulled up a Google Earth aerial view of the house and the beach area directly in front of it. ?️?

Using the image, I drew two specific boxes directly in the sand:
* ? A Red Square positioned closer to the high tide line.
* ⬛ A Black Square positioned up higher, near the seawall.

I sent the marked-up photo back to Kate and asked which color zone matched where she had been sitting. Kate replied: “Red. I am fairly sure it is in the sand but there is a chance it could be on the sidewalk.” ??‍♀️

With a clear target area locked in, I told Kate that Cheryl and I were on our way. We immediately loaded up the metal detecting gear and hit the road, heading straight for Gooch’s Beach in Kennebunk, just across the river from Kennebunkport. ??

? ??? ???????? ?????? ??? ??? ??? ??? ????
Once Cheryl and I arrived at Gooch’s Beach, we didn’t take any chances. We started with a thorough visual search up and down the sidewalk and the street area, just in case it had dropped on the pavement. No luck. ?️?️

Next, it was time to hit the sand. I stepped down onto the beach and established my search boundaries, working from a flagpole just south of the distinctive yellow beach house over to some surfboards sitting on the beach just to the north. I snapped a few photos of the setup and messaged them to Kate to confirm. She looked at the pictures and told me the ring should be parallel to those surfboards, lying somewhere in the sand.

Knowing the layout, I estimated I could sweep the entire designated area in about 15 minutes. I fired up the metal detector and equipped my largest coil, the M15, to cover the ground as quickly and efficiently as possible. I locked into a tight, systematic grid search across the “red square” zone. I covered every single inch of it—but the detector remained completely silent. No ring. ❌?️

? ??? ?????????? ?????: ??? ????? ???????
Even though it was technically outside of Kate’s suspected drop zone, I decided to extend my search right up to the massive seawall. Now, in the metal detecting world, there is a funny truth: a detectorist’s biggest enemy is actually metal! When you are searching for non-ferrous targets like silver or gold, an extremely large ferrous metal object can completely mask out the smaller target, making it completely invisible to the machine unless you proceed with extreme caution. ?️⚡

Because this seawall is constructed entirely of metal, I knew my massive M15 coil wouldn’t be able to get very close without overloading. I gave it a shot anyway, creeping as close to the barrier as the large coil would allow. Ten minutes later, I still had absolutely nothing.

I decided it was time to call Kate back to narrow down her exact path. I asked her: “Which set of stairs did you use to exit the beach? The ones to the south or the north of the yellow house?” I figured I would just grid search her footprints right up the steps.
I was literally STUNNED by her reply.

Kate calmly told me she hadn’t used any stairs at all. Instead, she had pulled herself up and vaulted straight over the seawall directly in front of the yellow house! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! ?

That seawall stands between 4.5 to 5 feet tall! I chuckled and told Kate, “Well, it must be nice to be young and agile! There is absolutely no way I would have even attempted that jump!” ?‍♀️?

? ???? ???? ??? ??? ?-?????? ??????
That one piece of new information changed absolutely everything. I realized the ring didn’t drop while she was walking to an exit—it likely launched out of her shirt pocket the exact second she leaped over that wall.

I had already searched near the wall with my large M15 coil, but I knew I could get significantly closer to that heavy metal barrier if I switched to my smallest setup. I had Cheryl run back to the vehicle to grab my small M8 elliptical coil. We swapped them out on the fly. To navigate the electrical interference from the wall, I would need to use a very short, highly disciplined, and deliberate swing. ?️?
I restarted the search right at the base of the wall, keeping my swings under tight control. Within just five minutes, the machine let out a beautiful, unmistakably loud high tone—exactly what I had been praying to hear! ?✨
The target was resting a mere foot and a half to two feet away from the massive metal wall. I pulled out my pinpointer, locked onto the exact signal location, and used my fingers to carefully brush away the loose sand.
Magically, a gleaming Sterling Silver Wedding Ring appeared out of the grains! UNREAL! I had found it! ??

? ???? ?? ???? ???? ? ?????
Cheryl and I were absolutely ecstatic, and we immediately caught the whole recovery on video from above to send to Kate. When her phone rang with the clip, she called us back instantly, completely over the moon with joy! It all made sense now—when Kate cleared that 5-foot wall in a single bound, the momentum sent the ring flying right out of her shirt pocket. ?‍♀️?
As luck would have it, Kate lives in Saco, the exact same town Cheryl and I call home. We made quick arrangements to meet up and safely return the family heirloom as soon as we got back into town. ??

As I walked off Gooch’s Beach—using the actual stairs and definitely not trying to play Superman like Kate—I was smiling from ear to ear. If I hadn’t asked that one crucial question about the stairs, or if I hadn’t brought my full arsenal of specialized coils, that ring might still be buried out there today. The stars were definitely aligned! ?✨

We met up with Kate back in Saco, and seeing her face light up with excitement as her wedding ring went back where it belonged was the perfect end to the day. As hugs and smiles were exchanged, I couldn’t help but chuckle to myself thinking, “How on earth did she jump over that wall?”
I truly have the absolute best job in the world. I love my job! ❤️?

Platinum Wedding Ring Lost In The Goose Rocks Beach Sand, Found With A Metal Detector In Kennebunkport, Maine

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)
? “???, ????, ??? ? ?????? ??????? ???? ?? ????? ????? ?????!” ??
It was a picture-perfect summer day at Goose Rocks Beach (GRB) in Kennebunkport Maine. Brandon and his wife, Taylor, were soaking up the sun, enjoying the beautiful weather, and spending quality time with a great group of family and friends. It was the kind of beach day memories are made of—until it was time to pack up. ?️☀️
As the day wrapped up and the group started gathering their gear to leave, Brandon went to take his ring off. In a split second, disaster struck. The ring slipped, caught the air, and went flying off his finger, completely disappearing into the sand right in front of him! ??
? ??? ????????? ??? ?? ??? ????
If you follow my page, you already know the golden rule: once a ring meets beach sand, it performs an almost impossible vanishing act. It settles instantly, blending perfectly into its new surroundings. ?️?
The entire group jumped into action. They searched and searched, sifting through the grains, but after a valiant and exhausting effort, they came up empty-handed. Feeling defeated, the group finally had to leave, leaving Brandon and Taylor behind to continue the frustrating search alone.
? ? ??????? ???? ???? ?????????????’? ??????
Before leaving the area, a call was made to the Kennebunkport Police Department to officially report the lost ring and asking if there was anything they could do to help find the ring. That phone call turned out to be the best move they could have made! The responding officers gave Brandon and Taylor some incredible advice: “You need to reach out to The Ring Finders of Maine. They have great success finding rings on the beach.” ?️?️
I want to extend a HUGE thank you to the Kennebunkport Police for the incredibly kind words and the referral! We truly appreciate our local law enforcement looking out for beachgoers and pointing them in our direction. ??
???? ???? ??? ???? ????
Once off the phone with the police, Brandon called me up and explained what happened. As I always do, I started asking a few quick questions to build a mental map of the recovery zone: Where exactly on the beach? Was it in the water or the dry sand? What time did it happen? Did you see or feel it come off?
Brandon gave me the whole story. Because the ring was lost high up in the dry sand, I didn’t need to worry about checking the tide charts or racing a rising ocean. I told him Cheryl and I would load up and be there in 25–30 minutes, depending on the summer traffic. ??
?️ ?????? ???? ??? ??? “???? ???”
When Cheryl and I arrived at GRB, Brandon met us promptly and walked us down to the now mostly empty beach. Taylor was still standing guard at the scene of the mishap, waiting and hoping.
Whenever I work with clients, I like to do a quick demonstration to build confidence. I take my own platinum wedding ring, throw it into the sand, and watch it completely disappear under the surface. Then, I swing my detector’s coil over the spot. I don’t normally wear headphones on these types of searches unless there’s heavy background noise. I want my clients to hear the target tone at the exact same moment I do!
When my detector let out a beautiful, loud, low tone over my hidden ring, Brandon and Taylor’s faces lit up. They heard the exact sound we were hunting for, reassuring them that the equipment works, everything is above board, and they had professional help on site. ?
⏱️ ???? ???? ?? ????????! ??????!
Brandon showed me exactly where he had been standing when the ring took flight. I could see the area straight out from his position where the group had spent hours searching. I mapped out the strategy and told the couple I would perform a meticulous grid search, moving north to south, parallel to the shoreline.
I set up to start the grid right where I had just thrown my own test ring. I turned on the machine, took my very first two steps, and swung the coil.
BANG! ?
The detector screamed with the exact same loud, low tone and Target ID that my own platinum ring had just produced. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Could I really have just found Brandon’s ring less than two feet from my test spot in less than 10 seconds? ?
I reached for my pinpointer, located the exact target deep in the sand, and pulled out Brandon’s platinum wedding ring. UNREAL!!!! ??
? ??????, ??????, ??? ????? ??????? ????
Immediately, Brandon and Taylor broke out into huge relief smiles! Handshakes and big emotional hugs ensued right there on the sand. The heavy weight of a lost heirloom vanished in an instant, replaced by pure joy. ?❤️
But the celebration didn’t stop there. With the ring safely recovered, the happy couple broke some absolutely beautiful news to us: They are expecting their first child this upcoming November! ??
On top of that, they are looking forward to celebrating their second wedding anniversary this September, less than two months away. Now that Brandon has his precious wedding ring back on his finger, this sweet couple is just ecstatic and feels completely whole again. ??

14K St Anthony Pendant Lost In The Atlantic Ocean Water, Found With A Metal Detector At Short Sands Beach, York, Maine

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)
? ???? ?? ??? ???????? ?????: ??? ??. ??????? ??????? ?????? ?
I received a call from Joanne. Her son, Rob, had been enjoying the day at Short Sands Beach in York Beach, Maine , when disaster struck. After getting out of the ocean, Rob looked down and realized his 14k gold St. Anthony pendant was no longer on his necklace. It was lost somewhere in the rolling surf. ?
? ??????? ??? ???? ?????? ?
Joanne asked if I could help. I immediately checked the tide charts and saw that the tide was currently coming in. When she told me the pendant was lost around 1:00 PM, I knew that meant it went missing at mid-tide. ?
I explained to Joanne that our absolute best chance for a recovery would be to arrive at Short Sands at 7:00 PM. By then, the tide would be heading back out, hitting that exact same mid-tide level, allowing me to follow the water out as it receded. She told me Rob would meet us there. ?
? ??? ????? ?????? ?????? ?
When Cheryl and I arrived at 7:00 PM, Rob was waiting. He brought us right down to the beach and pointed out the exact area where he had been swimming when he first noticed the pendant was gone.
I mapped out my strategy and told Rob I would grid search parallel to the shore, expanding the search area by an extra 25 feet to both the north and the south to guarantee we covered every square inch of the zone. ? Duty called for Rob, and he had to leave the beach shortly after to head back to Boston for work the next morning. ?
Cheryl and I pushed on. I grid searched the area for more than two hours, finally calling it a night after 9:00 PM as darkness completely took over. ? I had covered the entire designated area, but the ocean only gave up coins and the usual pull tabs and small pieces of aluminum. No gold. ?
? ? ??????? ???? ?? ??? ????? ???? ?
On the drive back home to Saco, Maine, I called Rob to give him the update. I told him the pendant simply wasn’t in that specific grid. I asked him if he had actually felt or seen the pendant slip off his neck, and he said no. Then I asked a crucial question:
“Had you been swimming earlier in the day?” ?
“Yes,” he replied. “Three or four other times.”
Right then, a lightbulb went off. It all made perfect sense! The St. Anthony pendant hadn’t come off during his 1:00 PM swim—it had likely slipped off during one of his earlier swims, and he just hadn’t noticed it was missing until later in the day. ?
? ????????? ????? & ? ??? ???? ?
Knowing he had most likely lost the pendant earlier in the day, my mind immediately went back to the tide charts. I saw that the morning low tide was set for 10:39 AM. My new plan was to get back to Short Sands Beach by 7:00 AM, matching the receding water and following it all the way down until low tide three and a half hours later. I was highly optimistic that the earlier swimming area would finally be exposed. ?
After a restless night with maybe three hours of sleep—because my mind just wouldn’t stop racing over that missing gold—I pulled back up to Short Sands Beach. ?
I wasted no time getting to work, picking up the grid search from north to south, moving parallel to the shoreline once again. For the first hour and a half, the beach was stubborn. I was only digging up the usual suspects: coins and pull-tabs. By 8:30 AM, with two hours left until low tide, I knew I just had to keep grinding. ?
? ?????? ??????????????: ??! ?
Just ten minutes later, everything changed. ?
My detector screamed with a LOUD, LOW TONE, locking in at a solid 35 on my Target Identification Screen (TID)! ? It sounded absolutely beautiful, and my adrenaline instantly spiked. ?
I scooped up a heavy load of sand, flipped it onto the wet, hard-packed surface, and pulled out my pinpointer. As I located the target and began brushing away the top layer of sand, there it was—a bright, unmistakable glint of SHINY GOLD! ✨?
I pulled it out, and holding it in my hand was Rob’s St. Anthony pendant! My theory had been spot on. After two separate days and four and a half total hours of searching, the puzzle was solved. The pendant was resting about 40 to 50 feet further out toward the water than where Rob originally thought he lost it, proving he had dropped it during one of those earlier swims. ?
? ?? ???????? ?????? ?
I immediately captured a video of the recovery and sent it to Rob and Joanne. Within minutes, both of their phones were ringing off the hook—they were absolutely ecstatic! ??
Since Rob was already back at work in Boston and Joanne was also down in Massachusetts, Rob asked if I could hand the precious heirloom over to his girlfriend’s brother, Jay, who was still vacationing in York with his family. I told him, “Absolutely!” ?
Meeting up with Jay and handing over the pendant felt incredible. Job done. But the real icing on the cake came a short time later when I received a text from Rob that truly says it all: ❤️
? ? ??????? ???? ???? ?? ??? ?
“????? ??? ?? ???? ?????. ???? ??? ????? ?? ?? ?? ?? ??????????? ??? ??? ???????? ?? ????? ????????. ?? ??? ? ???? ?? ??? ??? ?????????? ??? ??? ????????????? ???? ?????. ? ????? ?????????? ??? ??????, ????????, ??? ???????? ??? ??????. ???? ??????? ????? ? ??? ?? ??, ??? ? ???????? ????’? ????? ?’? ???? ??? ?? ?????. ??????? ?? ???, ? ???? ????????? ???? ??????? ???? ???? ? ??????? ??? ???? ???????. ???? ?????????? ??? ??????????? ?? ???? ? ???????? ???????? ????? ???? ???? ? ??? ??? ???? ?????. ????? ??? ?????, ? ???? ????? ?????? ???? ????????. ??? ??? ?? ??????? ???. ??? ???? ???? ??? ?? ???? ??? ?????? ????? ?? ???? ????? ??? ???? ?????? ?? ??? ?????, ??? ? ???? ????? ?????? ???? ??????.” ??
❤️ ??? ?? ?? ???? ?? ?? ❤️
Well, if a message like that doesn’t warm your heart, absolutely nothing will. It is exactly for reasons like this that we do what we do. The jewelry we recover holds deep family bonds and irreplaceable memories that a retail store can never replicate. These items represent family history. ?✨
I truly have the best job in the world, and I love my job! ??

Gold Wedding Ring Lost In The Beach Sand, Found With A Metal Detector, in Old Orchard Beach, Maine

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)
?️ ??????????? ??? ?? ???????, ?? ??? ??????? ?????! ?️
It was Thursday, July 16th, and it started out as a picture-perfect Maine summer day. ☀️
Ron and his wife, Deb, were loving every second of their vacation, relaxing outside the Sea Watch Condominiums right here in Old Orchard Beach. ?️
The ocean view was beautiful, the sun was shining, and the beach was packed with people soaking up the warmth.
After a while, Ron decided to head into the surf for a refreshing swim . ?
Before walking down to the water, he did what many people do—he slipped off his precious wedding ring and placed it safely inside the cup holder of his beach chair. ??
After his swim, Ron rejoined Deb at their chairs. The couple lay back, completely relaxed, without a single care in the world.
But Mother Nature had other plans for mid-afternoon. ?
Out of absolutely nowhere, a massive, severe cold front slammed into the coast. A line of violent thunderstorms swept through the area with terrifying speed. Suddenly, peaceful relaxation turned into pure survival mode! ⛈️?
* ??? ?????? ??? ??? Local wind gusts right on Old Orchard Beach clocked in at an incredible 43 mph, whipping the ocean into a choppy, dangerous surf.
* ??? ?????? ??????: The storm was tearing across the state, bringing 44 mph winds to Sanford and up to 60 mph gusts up north in Bangor, leaving tens of thousands of Mainers entirely without power! ??
Down on OOB, the wind hit like a freight train. Everyone on the beach was literally being sandblasted by the flying grit. It was blinding, painful, and complete chaos. ?‍♂️?‍♀️
Panicking as the storm raged around them, Ron and Deb grabbed what they could and fled the beach, running as fast as they could to find cover from the wind and pelting rain.?️
But in the frantic rush to escape being sandblasted… Ron’s wedding ring was completely forgotten, sitting right there in the cup holder of his beach chair. ??
Once they safely made it back inside their room at The SeaWatch Beachfront Condominiums, the adrenaline began to fade, and a sinking feeling set in. Ron reached for his finger, looked around, and realized with a jolt that his ring was missing!
They frantically tore through everything they had carried inside. They checked and re-checked the beach chairs, shook out the towels, and emptied the beach bags. All to no avail.
As soon as the severe weather finally passed the area, Ron and Deb hurried back down to the beach, eyes glued to the ground. But the storm had done its work. The heavy wind and flying sand had completely reshaped the beach, and the ring had vanished without a trace. ??️
Seeing their distress, several kind members of The SeaWatch Association stepped in to help. They gave Deb my contact information and told her to give me a call. ?
When Deb reached out, she asked if I might be able to head down to search for her husband’s ring over the next day or so, whenever I could find the time. I stopped her right there. I explained that when it comes to a lost ring on a shifting shoreline, time is of the essence! ⏰
Waiting a day or two simply wasn’t an option. Old Orchard is a highly popular public beach where a stray glint of gold can easily catch someone else’s eye.
Even worse, the OOB beach cleaning rake machines are a HUGE concern, capable of scooping up and burying a ring deep in the debris.
On top of that, there is always the chance of another metal detectorist scanning the area before I could get there. ??️‍♂️
I told Deb that Cheryl and I would load up the gear and be down there in 15 to 20 minutes! ??
When we arrived on site, Ron and Deb met us to point out the area where they had been sitting when the cold front blew through.
However, memory can be a bit tricky after a wild storm, and there was a little confusion as to the exact location.
Ron was convinced they had been parked towards the northern end of the building, while Deb was absolutely certain it was more towards the center of the structure. ??️
Now, I’ve done enough of these recoveries to know you never argue with a wife’s intuition!
I chose to start my precise grid search in the exact area Deb pointed out. I reassured the couple that if it didn’t turn up there, I would move over to search Ron’s suspected area next. If that still didn’t work, I was prepared to grid the entire escape route they took from the beach all the way to the access path. ?
I turned on my detector and began sweeping the sand in Deb’s zone. I didn’t have to walk very far before my machine locked onto a very strong, beautiful signal! ?
With Deb standing anxiously right beside me, I pulled out my pinpointer to narrow down the target. As I carefully moved the top layer of sand aside, a HUGE gold ring glinted in the sunlight! ✨?
Deb instantly gasped, “????’? ??!” ?
Ron, looking over from a few yards away, blinked and said, “????’? ?????” ?
Deb shouted back with a huge smile, “????’? ???? ????!” ?
Ron stood there in total disbelief, scratching his head. “? ??????? ?? ??? ???? ????!”
Chalk up another massive win for wife’s intuition! ??‍♀️
Ron walked on over, and it was an incredible feeling to place that heavy gold band right back into his hand. Deb immediately threw her arms around me, giving me a big, grateful hug and thanking me for saving the day. Ron followed right up with a hearty, unforgettable handshake and his own deep thanks. ?❤️
As Cheryl and I packed up and walked off the beach, the happy couple thanked us one last time. They were already heading back to find those wonderful SeaWatch Association Members to give them a massive thank you for the life-saving referral!
Moments like this remind us why “?? ???? ??? ???? ??? ?? ??? ?????. ?? ???? ??? ???!” Another piece of precious history saved, and another stormy day turned into smiles! ??

Gold Stud Earring Lost In The Grass, Found With A Metal Detector, In Scarborough, Maine

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

???? ?????????? ????????: Handcrafted Treasure Saved! ?✨

On July 15th, I got a heartbreaking call from Emily, a local real estate agent. ?‍?
The night before, she was playing volleyball at Memorial Park in Scarborough, Maine. ?

? Side note: This park is so nostalgic for me—it’s the site of the old Portland Twin Drive-In Theatre! ??

During a big play at the net, Emily jumped high and brushed against the mesh. ?

In a split second, her custom earring slipped out and vanished into the thick grass. ?

Emily and her friends searched on their hands and knees but found absolutely nothing. ?

This wasn’t just any jewelry. Emily used to be a professional jeweler. ?️

She had designed and handcrafted this specific gold earring herself. ?

She left the park completely devastated. ?

? ??? ???? ???????? ??? ? ???????????’? ?????????:

Most people think metal detectors find jewelry instantly. ?

But tiny stud earrings are the ultimate test of skill and gear. ?️

They contain an incredibly minute amount of precious metal. ?

When they fall into thick grass, they rarely lay flat. ?

Standard detecting programs look for round, dense targets like coins or thick wedding bands. ??

A vertical, microscopic gold post has an electromagnetic footprint that is almost non-existent. ?

Standard factory programs will simply ignore it or filter it out as ground noise. ?

To give us a fighting chance, I swapped to my agile 8″ coil. ?

I booted up the Minelab Manticore’s specialized “Gold Field” program. ?

This mode is engineered to sniff out tiny, low-conductive gold that other detectors miss. ✨

⚡ ??? ?????? & ??? ?????? ??????:

Emily met me at the park at 1:30 PM, right after I got back from York. ?

She had smartly marked the exact net post hole with a small tree branch. ?

I started a tight, overlapping grid search on her side of the net. ?

Nothing but faint iron mineralization from the soil. ?

I crossed over to the opposing team’s side of the net and kept swinging. ?️‍♂️

After 5 to 6 minutes of methodical scanning… BANG! ⚡

A sharp, beautifully repeatable audio signal broke through my headphones. ?

Having had two complete and total knee replacements, dropping down to the ground wasn’t happening. ??

Instead, I carefully bent over and used my handheld pinpointer to narrow down the grass blades. ?️‍♂️?

As I slowly parted the turf with my fingers, there it was—gleaming bright yellow in the dirt! ✨?

Emily spotted it at the exact same millisecond. ?️⭐

(If you haven’t seen her reaction yet, go watch the video Reel I posted last night!) ??

She started jumping up and down with her hands in the air, celebrating wildly! ??

? “WOW, thank you so much!” she shouted. ??

Seeing that pure joy and relief is exactly why I do this. ❤️

Honestly, I have the best job in the world, and I love my job! ??

Welcome home, earring! ??

??????-???-????? ?? ??? ?????????? ??????!?️

Funny enough, volleyball courts have been my specialty this season!

This actually marks my third volleyball court recovery of the year. ?

The first two were rings lost in the deep sand during intense beach volleyball games. ?️?

But switching from soft beach sand to thick park grass is a whole different ballgame—and it feels great to keep the streak alive! ?️➡️?

At the end of the day, our motto is simple:

? “?? ?? ??????? ?? ???, ?? ??????? ?? ??.”?

Whether it’s a sentimental ring lost on the beach ?️, a family heirloom dropped in the backyard ?, or a tiny earring lost in a local park ?, time is of the essence. ⏱️

Newlywed’s Engagement Ring Lost In The Beach Sand, Found With A Metal Detector, In Ocean Park, Maine Old Orchard Beach

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

? FOUND AT THE BEACH! ?✨

Talk about a rollercoaster of a day for a couple of newlyweds!

On July 11th, Jen and her husband Ryan—married for just one single month—were enjoying a beautiful Maine summer day on the beach in Ocean Park, Maine with 15 to 20 of their closest family and friends.

Suddenly, the unthinkable happened. Jen went to remove her engagement ring, and it ????????? ???? ????? ??? ??? ??????, vanishing deep into the sand somewhere in front of her. ?

The entire group jumped into action, searching the sand, but couldn’t find a trace of it. That’s when someone in the crowd made the brilliant suggestion to call The Ring Finders of Maine! ?

When the call came in, I was actually an hour away at Sebago Lake Maine , knee-deep in a water search for another lost wedding ring. I told the Ocean Park crew that Cheryl and I would head their way the second I finished.

Talk about luck—just 5 minutes later, I recovered the ring at Sebago Lake!

I immediately called Jen’s group back to let them know we were on our way. I gave them two crucial pieces of advice: ???? ?????????? ??? ????, ??? ???? ??? ???? ????? ???? ??????? ?? ??????.

When we arrived in Ocean Park an hour later, the whole group warmly greeted us. Jen showed me exactly where she was standing and the direction the ring flew.

And let me tell you, this group did a phenomenal job—they used children’s beach toys to create a large circle around the entire hot zone! A truly brilliant move. ??️

I kicked off my grid search at the top of the toy circle, working my way down toward the ocean. I finished my first pass, turned around, and started heading back toward the shore.

About 3/4 of the way back…????! I got the exact tone I was hoping for on my metal detector. ?

I pulled out my pinpointer, cleared the sand, and pulled out Jen’s beautiful engagement ring!

The second the ring cleared the sand, the entire beach exploded into cheering and clapping! ??

The heavy tension in the air instantly evaporated, replaced by pure joy and relief.

????’? ?????? ?? ???? ???? ?? ??? ????? ??? ?? ????? ??? ????? ?????? ???? ??????? ?????? ????? ???? ???????? ??? ??????! ??? ?????? ??? ?????????? ??????????!?
Congratulations again to Jen and Ryan on your recent wedding! I am so incredibly happy I could help save your summer day and bring that beautiful ring back where it belongs.

Moments like this remind us every day: ?? ???? ??? ???? ??? ?? ??? ?????, ?? ???? ??? ???!❤️

Gold And Platinum Wedding Ring Lost In The Water Of Sebago Lake, Found With A Metal Detector, In Standish, Maine

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

? SAVED FROM SEBAGO LAKE! ?

It was supposed to be the ultimate bachelor weekend getaway.
A group of lifelong friends. A stunning waterfront lake house in Standish, Maine. Perfect weather over beautiful Sebago Lake Maine. ?

But what happened next turned a perfect weekend into a full-blown emergency… ?

☀️ THE MOMENT EVERYTHING CHANGED ☀️

Nick was out in the water enjoying Sebago Lake—tossing a football, swimming, and floating around with the guys—when disaster struck.

His gold and platinum wedding ring suddenly slipped off his finger.

Before anyone could react… it disappeared beneath the surface. Gone. Just like that. ?

The panic set in immediately.

Imagine having to make that phone call to your wife from a bachelor party weekend… YIKES!!! ?

? Determined not to give up, the bachelor crew jumped into action.

They swam, waded, and searched the area themselves. Smartly, they even placed two large stones on the lake bed to mark the exact drop zone.

But finding a ring in waist- to chest-deep water is nearly impossible by hand.

Despite their best efforts… the ring was still missing.

? “WE NEED HELP…” (THIS IS WHEN WE WERE CALLED) ?

Realizing they were running out of time, Nick contacted The Ring Finders of Maine.

Cheryl and I immediately loaded up my fully waterproof metal detecting gear and headed to Standish, Maine and Sebago Lake, Maine.

When we arrived, the guys showed us the stone markers they had placed—perfect reference points.

We geared up, entered the water, and began a careful grid search.

? 10 MINUTES LATER… THIS HAPPENED ?

I swept the detector back across the marked area…

Nothing.

I adjusted slightly and continued the grid pattern.

Still nothing.

Then I turned just a bit farther left… and everything changed. ?

A clean, unmistakable signal rang out through my headphones.

I scooped the sand, swirled it in the water… and there it was.

? Nick’s gold and platinum wedding ring.

I lifted it high and said:

“Gold & platinum?”

The entire group erupted in cheers. The energy was unbelievable. ?

Nick’s relief said it all—what started as a disaster was now a full recovery.

And best of all… no dreaded phone call home needed. ?

Sterling Silver Engagement Ring AND Key Fob Lost In Range Pond State Park, Found With A Metal Detector In Poland, Maine

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

? THE IMPOSSIBLE DOUBLE RECOVERY AT Range Pond State Park! ?

Cheryl, Gary, and I love our jobs—we truly have the best job in the world. ?

It all started on July 8th when I received a phone call from Vanessa, a Ranger at Range Pond State Park in Poland, Maine … ?

? A Tourist Stranded & A Rental Car Stuck

The day before, a tourist from Texas had been enjoying the beautiful, serene lake while floating around on an inner-tube style flotation device. ?️

Suddenly, disaster struck. His rental car key fob and keys slipped out of his swim trunk pocket and vanished into the water! ?

To make matters worse:

The Search Area: Vanessa warned me the area he had been swimming in was massive.

?️The Stakes: The rental car was still stranded at the park because that was the only set of keys the agency had given him! ??

I told Vanessa I would be there as soon as I could pack my gear and drive the one hour to the park. I immediately called Gary Hill for backup, and his response was instant: “On my way, I’ll meet you there!” ?️?

? The Plot Thickens: A Second Missing Treasure

When I arrived, the booth attendant was expecting me. She told me Gary had just arrived, but then she dropped a bombshell question:
“Were you told that a few weeks ago, someone lost their silver engagement ring in the lake?” ?

I had no idea! She told me the park staff still had the owner’s contact info. If we found it, they could return it.I smiled and thought, “Alright then, let’s go find a key fob and an engagement ring. A two-for-one type of deal!” ?✨

?️ The Grid: Searching a “Football Field” in deep water

When we met up with Vanessa down by the shore, we realized the true scale of the challenge. The search area was larger than a football field! ?

Covering an area that size on dry land is tough enough, but doing it in water feels impossible. We knew we would need a miracle to find either item, let alone both. Fortunately, the water was extremely clear with a beautiful sandy bottom, and the lake was nice and warm. ☀️?‍♂️

Because a large group of local city summer camp kids was playing near the tourist’s entry point, we had to adjust our boundaries. We used a large tree and a water fountain up on the shore as our east and west markers:

I started out deep near the buoys. ?

Gary started mid-water, working eastward slightly to my right.

We began making our grid passes. No keys or engagement ring on the first pass, but the lake was already giving up secrets!

I found a small sterling silver ring with CZ stones, while Gary dug up coins and typical beach trash like pull tabs and foil.?️

After a few more passes, I found another ring—this one stainless steel—along with an earring and more coins.

Gary was finding plenty of coins, but no jewelry yet. ?

? The Miracle Double-Strike!

We had been in the water for about 45 minutes and were almost finished with our first section. As I swung my detector, something about 7 to 8 feet ahead caught my eye. ?

Amidst the stark white sand, there was a strange black object resting on the bottom. A tree branch? Bark? Trash? ?

I kept swinging my coil and advanced toward it. The moment the coil passed over the object, my machine screamed! ?

I leaned over in the stomach-deep water to get a closer look. I squinted through the ripples, and my heart stopped—IT WAS THE KEY FOB AND KEYS! Are you kidding me?! ??

I scooped them up, held them high in the air, and yelled over to Cheryl and Gary. Gary rushed over, grinning from ear to ear as I handed them to him. ??

We stood there celebrating for a moment. As we were about to turn and leave the spot, I gave my detector one last casual swing over the exact same area.

BEEP! ?
Another target—less than a foot away! I plunged my scoop into the sand, lifted it, and let the white sand sift through the holes, in the scoop. Staring up at me from the bottom of the scoop was a beautiful engagement ring! ?✨

Seriously!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! I hadn’t even taken a single step forward, and I pulled the lost engagement ring from the depths of the lake! I checked inside the band, saw the “925” stamp, and knew instantly it was the sterling silver ring lost weeks prior.

Talk about being lucky! The two missing items had ended up less than a foot apart in a massive lake. What are the absolute odds of that? As the saying goes, “Better lucky than good!” ??

? Grateful Rangers & Happy Owners

Once out of the water, we met up with Vanessa and another ranger named Walter. I actually met Walter the previous year when I recovered a gold ring at the same park!

Walter is a massive fan of The Ring Finders of Maine Facebook page and keeps my business card right in his wallet. He promised us that whenever anyone reports a lost item to the park staff, we will be the very first phone call. Thank you, Walter! ??

Vanessa took the recovered treasures straight to the front office to notify the incredibly relieved owners. Later that day, she sent me this wonderful message:

“Thank you so much for coming so promptly. They picked up their keys this afternoon and were very happy and incredibly thankful for your service. It is a great service you provide. So… Thank you and Gary for all you do.” ?❤️

Remember: If it matters to you, it matters to us. ?⚓

Platinum Engagement and Wedding Rings Lost On The Beach, in York Maine, Found With A Metal Detector, at Long Sands Beach

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

? A Race Against the Tide: The Search for Katie’s Rings ?
I received the following text

*“Hi, my name is Katie. I found your info on Google saying you try and find people’s lost wedding rings? I lost mine today on York Beach, Maine , Long Sands right before high tide.

We tried to go look but couldn’t find it or our exact spot. Was wondering how your services work and if you might be able to help me. My husband and I have been married for almost 9 years… we walked down the horrible steps and then sat on the wet sand before high tide, in between the bad set of stairs and the ones just south of them. There’s a house across the street, its number is **, and it has little buoys that kinda look like popsicles.” ?️

Along with the message, Katie sent a Google map with a pin drop and GPS coordinates. Excellent.

⏱️ The 5:30 AM Game Plan
After looking at the location and the tide charts, we knew our best chance of recovery would be early in the morning on July 5th. Gary and I arrived at Long Sands Beach in York Beach, Maine at 5:30 AM. ?

With low tide at 9:31 AM, we had plenty of time to search for her wedding and engagement rings, which were soldered together. With two of us on the job, we could cover the entire area without worrying about the incoming water.

Katie had lost her platinum wedding set when she took them off to apply lotion to her children. ? She placed them in the cupholder of her beach chair. As the family enjoyed their beach day, the rings slipped her mind. When they packed up, the rings fell out of the cupholder as the chair was carried away to the truck.

One big concern I had was that they had set up on the hard-packed wet sand. If the rings fell there, they wouldn’t sink right away. They would sit on the surface until the tide came in and buried them—meaning anyone walking by could have easily spotted them and picked them up. ?

? Cruising the Grid
Gary and I hit the beach as planned. Gary started up in the dry sand, working his way toward the water. ?️ I started on the hard-packed wet sand, working toward the shore. If we didn’t find them here, our backup plan was to search their walking path to the “Horrible Stairs.”

The area was a little larger than I thought. Our grid search was yielding nothing but a few coins and the usual beach trash—pull tabs, foil, and bottle caps. ?️

As we neared the end of the section, Gary stopped so I could finish it off. He was about to move to the walking path. I didn’t have a good feeling about that path because the Beach Cleaning Rake had gone through the area just before we arrived. If the rings had been there, the machine could have dragged them anywhere.

I was starting to lose hope. We were running out of real estate, and the rings were still missing. ? I had maybe two or three passes left before I was completely done.
* First pass: Nothing.
* Second pass: Almost finished, and then…

? BANG!!! The Sound We Needed!
I received the exact target tone I had been waiting for! ? A loud, low tone, repeatable and just 0–2 inches below the surface. The Target Identification (TID) screen showed a low-conducting metal reading 18-19. Definitely platinum.

I yelled over, “Gary, I think I found them!” ?️

The target was so loud I knew it wasn’t deep. Once I used the pinpointer, I didn’t even need to dig. I could actually see the outline of the ring right through the wet sand. I brushed a little sand away with my finger, and there was Katie’s precious wedding set! ?✨

UNBELIEVABLE!!! Just one more pass and we would have walked away. This is exactly why we never break a grid search. You just never know where a lost ring will be.

? The Big Surprise
I took a video to surprise Katie. I started the video making it look like an unsuccessful search, only to quickly pan over to Gary with a massive smile, holding up the rings!

? “Check out the video Reel on our page to see the exact moment we surprised her!!!

Within a couple of minutes, Katie called us. Hearing the pure excitement in her voice was the absolute best. She told me she and her husband Klayton were just down the road and would be right there.

Within ten minutes they arrived. Just watching her walk down the street was incredibly rewarding—you could see the “bounce” in her step, and her smile said it all! ?

As Katie received her wedding rings back, the relief was unmistakable. The anxious voice from the night before was completely gone, and the rings went straight back onto her finger where they belonged. Life was good once again! ?

Gary and I truly have the best job in the world. We love what we do.
Remember: “If It Matters To You, It Matters To Us.” ??️‍♂️
