Gold Engagement Ring Lost In The Beach Sand, Found With A Metal Detector In Kennebunkport, Maine

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

πŸ’ πŒπ€πŠπˆππ† 𝐀 𝐁𝐄𝐄-π‹πˆππ„ π“πŽ π’π€π…π„π“π˜!🐝

It was August 1st when the phone rang. On the line was Kaitlin, sounding completely anxious. Her sister, Kelly, had just lost her precious engagement ring somewhere on the beautiful, massive expanse of Goose Rocks Beach in Kennebunkport Maine.

As a detectorist with π“π‘πž 𝐑𝐒𝐧𝐠 π…π’π§ππžπ«π¬ 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐚𝐒𝐧𝐞, I immediately went into investigative mode. πŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈ I started asking my usual checklist of questions to narrow down the search grid:

* Did she lose it in the water or the dry sand?

* Did she see or feel the ring slide off?

* Was there a specific area where she spent most of her time?

* What kind of metal is the ring made of? (I always bring a matching test ring to calibrate my detector and show the client exactly how it works!)

What Kaitlin told me next was a scenario I won’t soon forget! 🀯

Earlier in the day, Kelly had been swimming, which naturally shrinks fingers. Later, while relaxing peacefully in her beach chair, a bee or hornet suddenly landed right on her! 🐝❌

Total panic set in. Kelly jumped up, took off running, and began wildly flailing her arms to swat the stinging threat away. She bolted around her family’s beach setup and ran toward the water until the bee was finally gone. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ’¨

It was only when she sat back down in her chair that her heart sankβ€”her engagement ring was gone. To make matters worse, her wedding was just two months away in October! πŸ˜πŸ’

Kelly was fairly certain the ring was somewhere in the dry sand. But with her running in circles and flailing her arms, that ring could have flown off her finger in a 360-degree radius, landing anywhere up to 30 or 40 feet away! The search grid was going to be massive.

Kaitlin mentioned that the whole family was still out on the beach actively searching. I immediately gave her some crucial advice: “Please hold off on disturbing the area as much as possible! Whatever you do, don’t dig any holes.” When helpful searchers dig and refill holes, they can inadvertently bury a shallow ring too deep for a standard detector to scan. πŸ›‘β³

At that exact moment, Cheryl and I were actually over on Mackworth IslandΒ  in Falmouth, Maine. We were in the middle of searching for a lost diamond stud earring. Unfortunately, that specific hunt turned up empty.

As soon as the earring search wrapped up an hour later, we packed up our gear. With all the wild details of the bee-panic engagement ring loss fresh in our minds, there was only one thing left to do: hit the road and get to Kennebunkport Maine as fast as possible! πŸš—πŸ’¨

I called Kaitlin back to let her know we were about 45 minutes away. She told me her father would meet us at the beach access path to guide us directly to the spot. Sure enough, the moment Cheryl and I arrived, her dad was right there waiting for us. He escorted us straight down to the scene of the “bee incident.”

That is where we met Kelly. With her wedding coming up fast in October, the stress and anxiety coming from her were palpable. I knew we needed to find this ring, and fast. ❀️πŸ’ͺ

Kelly pointed out exactly where her beach chair had been when the bee landed on her. Then, she walked me through her frantic flight path as she tried to escape it. At first glance, it didn’t look like a massive area. But knowing how far a ring can fly when someone is violently flailing their arms, the potential search zone could easily extend 40 feet on either side of that path.

I decided the smartest move was to start scanning the dry sand between their family beach setup and the nearby dune restoration project. As I looked around, two major worries crossed my mind. First, I prayed the ring hadn’t flown into the protected dune grass, which is strictly off-limits. Second, the beach was packed! There were crowds of people with towels, blankets, and beach bags lined up just past the high tide mark. If that ring took flight, it easily could have landed right on someone else’s towel or bounced straight into a stranger’s beach bag. πŸ˜±πŸŽ’

With the stakes higher than ever, it was time to turn on the detectors and start swinging.

I started with a tight grid search in the area behind their beach setup and right up to the edge of the dune grass. After about 30 minutes of careful sweeping, my detector picked up only a few stray coins and the usual beach trashβ€”but no engagement ring. πŸͺ™πŸ—‘️

Next, I moved into their beach canopy. I spent about 10 minutes checking inside, but the metal frame from the canopy makes a thorough search difficult because it interferes with the detector’s signals. It wasn’t a perfect sweep, but I knew I could always come back and try a different approach inside the canopy later in the evening if the primary search areas turned up empty.

Having now cleared the interior of the canopy, the north side, and the west side, it was time to change direction. I shifted my focus to the south side of the canopy and began working my way toward the front, closely tracing the path of her frantic flight to safety. πŸ—ΊοΈπŸ€”

Almost immediately, my headphones lit up with that beautiful, low tone I was hoping to hear! πŸŽ§πŸŽ‰

I pulled out my handheld pinpointer to narrow down the target, then carefully brushed through the soft sand with my hand. I felt the familiar shape of a ring. Before I even had it pulled completely out of the sand, Kelly and Kaitlin caught sight of it and started jumping up and down in pure joy! πŸ’ƒβœ¨

Their father and other family members erupted into applause, and the cheering and excitement instantly spread to nearby beachgoers who had been watching the drama unfold. It was an absolutely fantastic moment, seeing so much happiness wash over everyone on that beach! πŸ₯³πŸ‘

Kelly and Kaitlin immediately rushed over to give me giant hugs, followed by a firm, grateful handshake from their father as the cheers continued. Kelly couldn’t stop thanking me, flashing one of the biggest, best smiles I have ever seen. 😁❀️

As Cheryl and I packed up and walked away, I was floating on cloud nine. Helping Kelly recover her engagement ring just weeks before her big October wedding is exactly why we love doing this work. There is no better feeling in the entire world. I truly have the best job, and I love what I do!

Gold Wedding Ring Lost In The Goose Rocks Beach Sand, Found With A Metal Detector, In Kennebunkport, Maine

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

? ???? ?? ????? ????? ?????? ??? ???? ??? ?????’? ??????? ????! ??️

With Point Sebago now in our rearview mirror, Cheryl and I were heading to Goose Rocks Beach (GRB) in Kennebunkport Maine. I was on the phone with Brody, who explained the situation. He, his wife, and their young child had been enjoying a beautiful day at GRB. Before heading into the water for a swim, Brody took off his gold wedding ring and placed it safely inside the cupholder of his beach chair.

Once he finished swimming, the family spent several more hours relaxing on the shore before finally packing up their gear. They loaded everything into their vehicle and began the drive back home to the Boston area, preparing for work the next morning.

Then came that all-too-familiar moment of panic. ? Brody remembered his wedding ring. He checked the chair, but the cupholder was completely empty. He rushed back to the beach to search his old setup spot, but as we all know, once under the sand, these rings are very difficult to find.

? ??? ????? & ??? ????
Brody then gave me the exact location on GRB and told me the ring should be somewhere between the seaweed from the high tide mark and the kayaks, closer to the dune grass. This gave me a solid, specific search window to target.

The late afternoon sun was casting long shadows across Goose Rocks Beach by the time Cheryl and I arrived. Because Brody’s setup had been high up on the dry sand, we didn’t have to worry about incoming tides or shifting water, but the soft, powdery sand of GRB can swallow a gold ring instantly.

I decided to start the grid search near the seaweed and grid search horizontally to the water. I would search north to south and work my way towards the kayaks. There were not many targets at all, that high up on the beach

⚑ ??? ??????? ?? ?????!
The area wasn’t large and after 10 minutes or so, I heard the low tone I had been hoping for and anticipating! ?

As I kept swinging the coil over the area, trying to pinpoint the exact spot under the M15 coil, I could see the outline of a gold ring in the sand. I told Cheryl, “I can see the ring, in the sand,” to which she replied from 10–15 feet away, “I can see it from here!” ?
I removed the ring from the sand and verified it was actually Brody’s gold wedding ring. I immediately recorded a video for Brody, telling him I was leaving the beach because I found the ring, panning the camera down to reveal his beautiful gold band. ?✨

? ??? ?.?-???? ????? ???? ??? ??? ??????
I sent the video to Brody, who called me back instantly, expressing his immense gratitude. Since he and his family had already left the area, we made plans to return the ring the following weekend. He would make the 1.5-hour drive right back to Kennebunkport Maine to get his ring back.
The next weekend, I drove down to GRB and met Brody for the very first time. I returned his wedding ring with those exact same kayaks in the background! Brody and his wife thanked me immensely, and as we shook hands to say goodbye, all I could think of was: ? ???? ??? ???? ??? ?? ??? ?????. ? ???? ?? ???. ❀️?

Sterling Silver Wedding Ring Lost In The Sand, Found With A Metal Detector, At Gooch’s Beach, Kennebunk, Maine

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

?‍♀️ ???? ??? ???? ?? ??? ????: ? ??????? ???? ??????? ?? ?????’? ?????! ??
The call to action can arrive at any moment, and on Tuesday, July 21st, late in the morning, a text message popped up on my phone from a client named Kate. The message read: “Hello, I lost a ring this morning on Gooch’s beach. Would you be able to look for it? I believe it is in front of this house in the sand.” Along with the message was a photo of a beach house with its address right there on the Kennebunk coast. ??

I immediately called Kate back to get the crucial details. She explained that she had been out enjoying the morning surf. Before hitting the waves, she took off her precious Sterling Silver Wedding Ring and tucked it safely inside her shirt pocket. Once she was finished surfing, she gathered up her beach gear, packed up, and headed homeβ€”completely forgetting the ring was still loose in her pocket. It wasn’t until she arrived home that reality hit, and she realized the ring was gone. ??‍♀️

?️ ??????? ??? ?????? ???? ???? ?????? ?????
I told Kate I would absolutely go search for it, but when it comes to shifting beach sand, a little bit of strategy goes a long way. To pinpoint the location as accurately as possible, I pulled up a Google Earth aerial view of the house and the beach area directly in front of it. ?️?

Using the image, I drew two specific boxes directly in the sand:
* ? A Red Square positioned closer to the high tide line.
* ⬛ A Black Square positioned up higher, near the seawall.

I sent the marked-up photo back to Kate and asked which color zone matched where she had been sitting. Kate replied: “Red. I am fairly sure it is in the sand but there is a chance it could be on the sidewalk.” ??‍♀️

With a clear target area locked in, I told Kate that Cheryl and I were on our way. We immediately loaded up the metal detecting gear and hit the road, heading straight for Gooch’s Beach in Kennebunk, just across the river from Kennebunkport. ??

? ??? ???????? ?????? ??? ??? ??? ??? ????
Once Cheryl and I arrived at Gooch’s Beach, we didn’t take any chances. We started with a thorough visual search up and down the sidewalk and the street area, just in case it had dropped on the pavement. No luck. ?️?️

Next, it was time to hit the sand. I stepped down onto the beach and established my search boundaries, working from a flagpole just south of the distinctive yellow beach house over to some surfboards sitting on the beach just to the north. I snapped a few photos of the setup and messaged them to Kate to confirm. She looked at the pictures and told me the ring should be parallel to those surfboards, lying somewhere in the sand.

Knowing the layout, I estimated I could sweep the entire designated area in about 15 minutes. I fired up the metal detector and equipped my largest coil, the M15, to cover the ground as quickly and efficiently as possible. I locked into a tight, systematic grid search across the “red square” zone. I covered every single inch of itβ€”but the detector remained completely silent. No ring. ❌?️

? ??? ?????????? ?????: ??? ????? ???????
Even though it was technically outside of Kate’s suspected drop zone, I decided to extend my search right up to the massive seawall. Now, in the metal detecting world, there is a funny truth: a detectorist’s biggest enemy is actually metal! When you are searching for non-ferrous targets like silver or gold, an extremely large ferrous metal object can completely mask out the smaller target, making it completely invisible to the machine unless you proceed with extreme caution. ?️⚑

Because this seawall is constructed entirely of metal, I knew my massive M15 coil wouldn’t be able to get very close without overloading. I gave it a shot anyway, creeping as close to the barrier as the large coil would allow. Ten minutes later, I still had absolutely nothing.

I decided it was time to call Kate back to narrow down her exact path. I asked her: “Which set of stairs did you use to exit the beach? The ones to the south or the north of the yellow house?” I figured I would just grid search her footprints right up the steps.
I was literally STUNNED by her reply.

Kate calmly told me she hadn’t used any stairs at all. Instead, she had pulled herself up and vaulted straight over the seawall directly in front of the yellow house! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! ?

That seawall stands between 4.5 to 5 feet tall! I chuckled and told Kate, “Well, it must be nice to be young and agile! There is absolutely no way I would have even attempted that jump!” ?‍♀️?

? ???? ???? ??? ??? ?-?????? ??????
That one piece of new information changed absolutely everything. I realized the ring didn’t drop while she was walking to an exitβ€”it likely launched out of her shirt pocket the exact second she leaped over that wall.

I had already searched near the wall with my large M15 coil, but I knew I could get significantly closer to that heavy metal barrier if I switched to my smallest setup. I had Cheryl run back to the vehicle to grab my small M8 elliptical coil. We swapped them out on the fly. To navigate the electrical interference from the wall, I would need to use a very short, highly disciplined, and deliberate swing. ?️?
I restarted the search right at the base of the wall, keeping my swings under tight control. Within just five minutes, the machine let out a beautiful, unmistakably loud high toneβ€”exactly what I had been praying to hear! ?✨
The target was resting a mere foot and a half to two feet away from the massive metal wall. I pulled out my pinpointer, locked onto the exact signal location, and used my fingers to carefully brush away the loose sand.
Magically, a gleaming Sterling Silver Wedding Ring appeared out of the grains! UNREAL! I had found it! ??

? ???? ?? ???? ???? ? ?????
Cheryl and I were absolutely ecstatic, and we immediately caught the whole recovery on video from above to send to Kate. When her phone rang with the clip, she called us back instantly, completely over the moon with joy! It all made sense nowβ€”when Kate cleared that 5-foot wall in a single bound, the momentum sent the ring flying right out of her shirt pocket. ?‍♀️?
As luck would have it, Kate lives in Saco, the exact same town Cheryl and I call home. We made quick arrangements to meet up and safely return the family heirloom as soon as we got back into town. ??

As I walked off Gooch’s Beachβ€”using the actual stairs and definitely not trying to play Superman like Kateβ€”I was smiling from ear to ear. If I hadn’t asked that one crucial question about the stairs, or if I hadn’t brought my full arsenal of specialized coils, that ring might still be buried out there today. The stars were definitely aligned! ?✨

We met up with Kate back in Saco, and seeing her face light up with excitement as her wedding ring went back where it belonged was the perfect end to the day. As hugs and smiles were exchanged, I couldn’t help but chuckle to myself thinking, “How on earth did she jump over that wall?”
I truly have the absolute best job in the world. I love my job! ❀️?

Platinum Wedding Ring Lost In The Goose Rocks Beach Sand, Found With A Metal Detector In Kennebunkport, Maine

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)
? “???, ????, ??? ? ?????? ??????? ???? ?? ????? ????? ?????!” ??
It was a picture-perfect summer day at Goose Rocks Beach (GRB) in Kennebunkport Maine. Brandon and his wife, Taylor, were soaking up the sun, enjoying the beautiful weather, and spending quality time with a great group of family and friends. It was the kind of beach day memories are made ofβ€”until it was time to pack up. ?οΈβ˜€οΈ
As the day wrapped up and the group started gathering their gear to leave, Brandon went to take his ring off. In a split second, disaster struck. The ring slipped, caught the air, and went flying off his finger, completely disappearing into the sand right in front of him! ??
? ??? ????????? ??? ?? ??? ????
If you follow my page, you already know the golden rule: once a ring meets beach sand, it performs an almost impossible vanishing act. It settles instantly, blending perfectly into its new surroundings. ?️?
The entire group jumped into action. They searched and searched, sifting through the grains, but after a valiant and exhausting effort, they came up empty-handed. Feeling defeated, the group finally had to leave, leaving Brandon and Taylor behind to continue the frustrating search alone.
? ? ??????? ???? ???? ?????????????’? ??????
Before leaving the area, a call was made to the Kennebunkport Police Department to officially report the lost ring and asking if there was anything they could do to help find the ring. That phone call turned out to be the best move they could have made! The responding officers gave Brandon and Taylor some incredible advice: β€œYou need to reach out to The Ring Finders of Maine. They have great success finding rings on the beach.” ?️?️
I want to extend a HUGE thank you to the Kennebunkport Police for the incredibly kind words and the referral! We truly appreciate our local law enforcement looking out for beachgoers and pointing them in our direction. ??
???? ???? ??? ???? ????
Once off the phone with the police, Brandon called me up and explained what happened. As I always do, I started asking a few quick questions to build a mental map of the recovery zone: Where exactly on the beach? Was it in the water or the dry sand? What time did it happen? Did you see or feel it come off?
Brandon gave me the whole story. Because the ring was lost high up in the dry sand, I didn’t need to worry about checking the tide charts or racing a rising ocean. I told him Cheryl and I would load up and be there in 25–30 minutes, depending on the summer traffic. ??
?️ ?????? ???? ??? ??? “???? ???”
When Cheryl and I arrived at GRB, Brandon met us promptly and walked us down to the now mostly empty beach. Taylor was still standing guard at the scene of the mishap, waiting and hoping.
Whenever I work with clients, I like to do a quick demonstration to build confidence. I take my own platinum wedding ring, throw it into the sand, and watch it completely disappear under the surface. Then, I swing my detector’s coil over the spot. I don’t normally wear headphones on these types of searches unless there’s heavy background noise. I want my clients to hear the target tone at the exact same moment I do!
When my detector let out a beautiful, loud, low tone over my hidden ring, Brandon and Taylor’s faces lit up. They heard the exact sound we were hunting for, reassuring them that the equipment works, everything is above board, and they had professional help on site. ?
⏱️ ???? ???? ?? ????????! ??????!
Brandon showed me exactly where he had been standing when the ring took flight. I could see the area straight out from his position where the group had spent hours searching. I mapped out the strategy and told the couple I would perform a meticulous grid search, moving north to south, parallel to the shoreline.
I set up to start the grid right where I had just thrown my own test ring. I turned on the machine, took my very first two steps, and swung the coil.
BANG! ?
The detector screamed with the exact same loud, low tone and Target ID that my own platinum ring had just produced. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Could I really have just found Brandon’s ring less than two feet from my test spot in less than 10 seconds? ?
I reached for my pinpointer, located the exact target deep in the sand, and pulled out Brandon’s platinum wedding ring. UNREAL!!!! ??
? ??????, ??????, ??? ????? ??????? ????
Immediately, Brandon and Taylor broke out into huge relief smiles! Handshakes and big emotional hugs ensued right there on the sand. The heavy weight of a lost heirloom vanished in an instant, replaced by pure joy. ?❀️
But the celebration didn’t stop there. With the ring safely recovered, the happy couple broke some absolutely beautiful news to us: They are expecting their first child this upcoming November! ??
On top of that, they are looking forward to celebrating their second wedding anniversary this September, less than two months away. Now that Brandon has his precious wedding ring back on his finger, this sweet couple is just ecstatic and feels completely whole again. ??

Platinum and Diamond Wedding Ring Lost In The Goose Rocks Beach Sand, Found In Kennebunkport, Maine With A Metal Detector

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

✨ “That Was Like Magic!” ✨ How a Family’s Beach Day Was Saved by a Low Tone & a Helping Hand ?️❀️

As Cheryl and I were driving home from a successful ring recovery and return in York, Maine, my phone rang. ?

The caller identified herself as Molly. She had just lost her platinum wedding ring with diamonds! ??

Molly was at Goose Rocks Beach in Kennebunkport, Maine. She had taken her ring off and placed it in her lap while applying lotion to her children and herself. ??️

She forgot about the ring, stood up, and walked away toward the water. As she was walking, she suddenly remembered it! ??

Molly rushed back to her chair and began searching the sand, but the ring was gone. Her children and husband also searched, but came up empty. ?

Realizing they might be burying the ring deeper into the sand, they wisely stopped searching to prevent making it harder to find. It was then that I was called! ??

Cheryl and I were at a red light in Biddeford, Maine, when Molly phoned. ? I was literally at the intersection of Route 1 and the road that heads straight to Goose Rocks Beach! ?

I was closer to the beach right then than if I had gone home and had to drive back. So, I took a sharp right at the intersection and told Molly I would be there in less than 15 minutes! ⏱️?

Cheryl and I arrived in short order and were promptly met by Molly. She brought us down to where her family had set up on this 250th anniversary of our country’s independence. ???

When we arrived, Molly showed me where she had been sitting and where the family had been searching for her wedding ring in the sand. ?️?

After firing the metal detector up, I did a quick scan of the area… nothing. ❌

I moved inside the tent a little, and one of the children moved a chair out of the way, but the search still yielded nothing. Molly then showed me the path she had taken toward the water to the right of the canopy. β›Ί

After 5 minutes, there was still no wedding ring. It was now time to start moving some of the beach bags under the canopy. ??

I asked Molly my usual rounds of questions:
? “Was it left back at the house?”
? “Have you checked the beach bags?”

Once I started back up, I searched the exact spot where a teal-colored beach bag had been sitting… ??️‍♂️

BANG!!! ?
A nice, loud, low tone rang out, reading 17-18-19 on the Target Identification (TID) screen! This TID was the absolute perfect number for a woman’s platinum wedding ring. ??

I asked one of Molly’s children if she would like to use the pinpointer to locate the target. She happily agreed, and after a quick tutorial, she found the spot! ??

As she dug in the sand with her hand, the ring wasn’t appearing. She dug deeper, and still nothing! ?

I said, “It can’t be that deep,” and moved in to dig deeper with my hand when Molly’s husband noted, “We did move some sand around.” ⏳?

As I dug further, I felt it… and started pulling it out of the sand! ?️?

Molly’s daughter excitedly cried out:
? “Mommy’s wedding ring!”

Her husband exclaimed:
? “That was down there deep!”

And her daughter added:
? “That was like magic!” ✨?‍♂️

Molly let out a massive, joyful laugh! ?❀️

She could finally relax with her beautiful wedding ring back safely on her finger. The stress and tension instantly lifted, replaced by smiles and laughter all around! ??

With the sun shining brightly, the family could get back to enjoying their beautiful beach day in Kennebunkport. β˜€οΈ?

This is why we do it. We love our jobsβ€”it’s truly the best job in the world! ?❀️

Cheryl and I were just beaming after recovering our second wedding ring in the span of just two hours! To top it off, Gary had also recovered a wedding ring earlier in the morning. ??

Three wedding rings recovered in one dayβ€”a true “triple crown” or a “three-peat” in the ring-finding business! ???

As we walked off the beach, we couldn’t help but think about what a legendary day it had already been.

It was only 2:25 PM, and little did we know… our day wasn’t done just yet! ??

“Remember, If It Matters To You, It Matters To Us.” ❀️?
