Instead of packing up right away, we decided to stay on the beach. We were waiting for Sean to call us back, passing the time by enjoying a little recreational metal detecting for a changeโ€”just swinging the detectors for fun without the pressure of a targeted search.

Thatโ€™s when the quiet was broken. My phone went off with a sharp chime. Pulling it out, I looked down at a text message that immediately shifted our gears. This is what it said:

A few minutes later, my phone rang. On the other end was a loyal follower of ๐“๐ก๐ž ๐‘๐ข๐ง๐  ๐…๐ข๐ง๐๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐Œ๐š๐ข๐ง๐ž who happened to be at a Yoga on the Beach session down at Pine Point Beachย  in theย  Town of Scarborough, Maine . She had been texting me, but realized it would be much faster if I just talked to the young man directly so he could answer my questions.

She handed the phone over, and a polite but clearly stressed voice came on the line.

“๐‡๐ข, ๐ˆ’๐ฆ ๐‰๐š๐ค๐ž,” he introduced himself.

Jake quickly filled in the blanks of what had happened. The previous evening, he had been out on a date, and the two of them ended up stargazing on the beach at Pine Point. They had been sitting up near the dunes, enjoying the perfect nightโ€”right up until the moment they decided to leave.

When Jake and his date finally walked back to the parking lot and he reached into his pocket for his key fob, his heart dropped. It was gone.

Jake and his date immediately turned back around, frantically retracing their steps back to the spot where they had been sitting. But in the pitch black, the key fob was nowhere to be found.

They spent hours running their fingers through the cold sand, using only the dim flashlights on their smartphones to guide them. Despite their exhaustive efforts, the beach refused to give it up. It was as if the shifting sand had completely swallowed the fob whole.

I listened to his story and smiled. I told Jake he was in serious luckโ€”Gary and I were only 2 to 3 miles down the road in OOB and would be there momentarily. Hanging up the phone, Gary and I immediately walked off the beach through the thick fog, loaded up, and headed straight to Pine Point.

Once we arrived, we walked out into the misty fog onto the beach. Near a group of people quietly participating in a yoga session, we spotted a young man holding a metal detector. I walked over to him and asked if he was Jake, the one looking for a key fob.

Sure enough, it was Jake. Meeting us in person, he elaborated on the rest of his exhausting night. After desperately searching the beach until the wee hours of the morning with no luck, Jake finally had to call his father and break the bad news. He was completely stranded at Pine Point after spending the entire night searching for the fob.

Jake’s date had called her parents many hours earlier and was already safely at home, while Jake’s father had driven down in the middle of the night to pick him up.

๐Ÿ›Œ ๐๐Ž ๐’๐‹๐„๐„๐ ๐€๐๐ƒ ๐€๐ ๐Ž๐‹๐ƒ ๐ƒ๐„๐“๐„๐‚๐“๐Ž๐‘ ๐Ÿ›Œ

But the story didn’t end there. Jake explained that once he finally got home, he couldn’t sleep for the life of him. The thought of that missing key fob was driving him crazy.

As he tossed and turned, he suddenly remembered that his father had an old metal detector tucked away somewhere. He realized if he could just dig out that old detector and get back down to Pine Point, he might still have a chance to find the fob himself.

Once they tracked down the old machine, Jake and his dad loaded back up into the truck and drove right back to Pine Point to start the search all over again.

Back on the beach, Jake diligently swung the old metal detector back and forth, while his father conducted a careful visual search of the area. Unfortunately, their persistence wasn’t paying offโ€”both came up entirely empty-handed.

Feeling defeated, Jake’s father eventually headed up to the parking lot, while Jake kept stubbornly searching in and right around the active yoga class. This was the exact moment when Gary and I finally showed up on the scene.

Jake showed us the exact area where he and his date had been stargazing, as well as the route they had walked back toward the lot. Gary and I fired up ourย  ๐Œ๐ข๐ง๐ž๐ฅ๐š๐› ๐Œ๐š๐ง๐ญ๐ข๐œ๐จ๐ซ๐ž detectors and got straight to work.

We set up our grid: Gary followed the dune line while I swung out a little further, both of us heading north. When we reached our northern boundary, we turned around and headed south. Still nothing.

Undeterred, we turned back to head north again. That’s when I hit a target. It wasn’t a clean, great-looking signal, but it was showing many different shapes and metalsโ€”which is exactly what I would expect from a key fob. Because of all the different internal electronics and metals inside them, fobs often mimic the appearance of trash to a detector.

I reached down, brushed away the blanket of sand, and there it sat: a black key fob. In less than 5 minutes, we had found it, and Jake would soon be able to drive his car home.

๐Ÿคซ ๐๐”๐“ ๐… ๐’๐Ž๐Œ๐„ ๐…๐”๐! ๐Ÿคซ

Hiding the key fob completely in the palm of my hand, I started asking Jake a few questions about his walking route to and from the car. The second Jake turned his head away to point out the area, I quietly held the fob out in mid-air in front of me.

When Jake turned back toward me, he stopped dead in his tracks, staring right at the key fob in my hand.

“๐ˆ๐ฌ ๐ญ๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐ข๐ญ?” I asked with a grin.

With a massive, relieved smile, Jake replied, “๐˜๐ฎ๐ฉ.”

Right at that exact moment, the nearby yoga class broke out into a huge round of applause! They had been watching the drama unfold, and seeing Jake finally reunite with his fob brought a cheer from the whole group.

I handed the fob over and offered my congratulations, shaking his hand.

Jake let out a ๐‡๐”๐†๐„ sigh of relief.

“๐–๐Ž๐–!!!” he breathed. “๐“๐ž๐ง ๐ก๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฌ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ฅ๐จ๐จ๐ค๐ข๐ง๐  ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ ๐ข๐ญ.”

๐–๐‡๐€๐“??? ๐“๐„๐ ๐‡๐Ž๐”๐‘๐’!!!

๐–๐Ž๐– is right! Jake had spent ten agonizing hours searching through the pitch-black night and the heavy morning fog without luck.

Curious, I asked Jake if he wouldn’t mind laying the fob back down on the sand and running his father’s old metal detector over it. When Jake swung his coil over the key, the machine stayed completely silent. It didn’t pick it up at all.

As it turns out, the old metal detector wasn’t properly set up or calibrated. If it had been, Jake might have been home asleep in his own bed hours ago!

This is exactly why we always tell people: please donโ€™t rent a metal detector or buy a cheap one if you have no experience using them. Without the right equipment and knowledge of how to ground-balance and tune the machine, you could be swinging right over your lost ring, keys, or valuables, and the detector won’t make a single peep.

He didn’t feel it leave his finger. But once he stepped up onto the dry sand, he looked down and his heart shattered. His wedding ring was gone.

Sean told me that he instantly got that awful, sinking gut feelingโ€”the belief that his ring was now buried deep under the churning Atlantic Ocean and shifting sand, never to be seen again.

But this wasn’t just any wedding ring. This was a piece of his soul.

This ring originally belonged to ๐’๐ž๐š๐งโ€™๐ฌ ๐ ๐ซ๐š๐ง๐๐Ÿ๐š๐ญ๐ก๐ž๐ซ, who wore it proudly for ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ• ๐ฒ๐ž๐š๐ซ๐ฌ before passing away in 2006. Inside the band, it held a beautifully aged inscription of his grandparents’ initials and their wedding date: ๐Ÿ—-๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ-๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ—.

Sean inherited this priceless heirloom in 2006. When he met the love of his life and got married, he wanted to honor that incredible legacy. He took the ring to a jeweler and had his own wedding dateโ€”๐Ÿ“-๐Ÿ๐Ÿ–-๐Ÿ๐Ÿ’ โ€”inscribed right next to his grandparents’, matching the exact original script style.

I told Sean that we were already fully booked for the evening, but I could absolutely search very early the next morning. The plan was to arrive pre-dawn at ๐Ÿ’:๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŽ ๐€๐Œ to catch a ๐Ÿ“:๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ• ๐€๐Œ ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฐ ๐ญ๐ข๐๐ž.

My biggest worry? Another metal detectorist might have already stumbled across it during that morning’s low tide or the upcoming evening low tide. The pier area is a high-traffic spot, and time is always the enemy.

Hearing this, Sean and his friend decided to head down to the OOB Pierย  that night to do a visual search themselves.

Later that evening, after the tide went out, Sean texted me with the update: they didn’t find the ring, but crucially, they didn’t see any other metal detectorists working the area either. Awesome news!

To narrow things down even further, Sean had text-messaged me a photo with a circled area where he thought the ring had dropped. I sent a photo right back to him, mapping it out so we could pin down a definitive search area. Once we agreed on the exact target zone, the game plan was locked in.

Now, truth be told, Gary Hill and I never sleep well the night before a search like this. When a ring is lost within an hour and a half of a low tide, you have to execute a flawless, highly precise grid search. The ocean gives you a tiny, unforgiving window of opportunity, and you can’t afford to miss a single inch.

So instead of sleeping soundly that night, my mind was racing. All kinds of thoughts were running through my head as I stared at the ceiling, waiting for the alarm to go off…

When ๐Ÿ’:๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŽ AM finally rolled around, Gary and I arrived at the beach. We stepped out into a pitch-black, pre-dawn darkness. Not only was it completely dark, but a thick, heavy Maine fog had rolled in, swallowing the shoreline.

Outfitted with our metal detectors, gear, and our headlamps cutting thin beams through the mist, it felt like we were stepping onto another planet. We knew the clock was ticking, and the tide wouldn’t wait for the sun to rise.

Because the ring could be hidden absolutely anywhere within that fairly large search zoneโ€”and because time was at a serious premiumโ€”strategy was everything.

I directed Gary to start just a little bit outside of the main search zone, closer to the mid-pier section. He would grid approximately 75 feet south to the pier turn, and then grid north 75 feet back to the northern boundary. From there, Gary would continue this exact pattern, systematically working his way east toward the low tide line.

โ€ข ๐Œ๐ฒ ๐†๐ซ๐ข๐: I was going to perform that exact same precise pattern, but with a different starting point. My mission was to start out near the very end of the pier and the low tide line. I would follow the receding tide out, even getting right into the cold ocean water to search the surf.

With our plan set and headphones on, off we went into the fog.

“๐‚๐จ๐ฆ๐ž ๐‡๐ž๐ซ๐ž, ๐ˆ ๐…๐Ž๐”๐๐ƒ ๐ˆ๐“!” ๐Ÿคฏ

The search was officially afoot. I adjusted my gear, stepped toward the surf, and braced myself for what I thought would be a long, grueling hunt. But not even two minutes into the search, the foggy silence was shattered. I heard Gary yelling out to me through the mist.

I yanked my headphones off to hear him better. Gary shouted,

“๐‚๐จ๐ฆ๐ž ๐ก๐ž๐ซ๐ž, ๐ˆ ๐…๐Ž๐”๐๐ƒ ๐ˆ๐“!”

My heart hammering against my ribs, I quickly scrambled over to where Gary was standing. He pointed down at a gleaming gold ring resting perfectly in the freshly dug sand. It was absolutely unbelievable.

But a sudden wave of caution hit me. Could it really be the right one? It was sitting just barely outside of our agreed-upon search zone. Gary carefully picked up the heavy gold band, tilted it toward his headlamp to peer inside, and checked for the inscriptions.

๐Ÿ—-๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ-๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ—. ๐Ÿ“-๐Ÿ๐Ÿ–-๐Ÿ๐Ÿ’.

Gary had found the ring in just ๐Ÿ ๐ญ๐จ ๐Ÿ‘ ๐ฆ๐ข๐ง๐ฎ๐ญ๐ž๐ฌ and only ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿ๐ž๐ž๐ญ into his grid search. ๐‰๐”๐’๐“ ๐‚๐‘๐€๐™๐˜!!! After all those sleepless hours and racing thoughts, the ocean gave it up almost instantly.

We stood there in the fog and immediately made a video revealing this unbelievable recovery.

By the time we wrapped up filming, it was just before 5:00 AM. Standing out there in the damp, dark morning air, I pulled out my phone and hit send on a text to Sean so he could wake up to the best news possibleโ€”all while quietly praying I didn’t accidentally wake him up right then and there!

Now with plenty of time to kill until Sean called us back, Gary and I decided to do a little recreational metal detecting around the area to see if we could find anything else. Just as the morning sun was trying to peek through the heavy fog, my phone lit up with an incoming text.

But it wasn’t Sean. It was a brand new emergency call from someone in Pine Point, in the Town of Scarborough, Maine just two miles away, who had lost a key fob the previous evening.

By now, it was just before 7:00 AM, so Gary and I packed up, jumped into the Ring Finder Mobile, and drove over to Pine Point. Right as we pulled up, my phone rangโ€”it was Sean!

When he answered, I didn’t even have to break the news to him.

He had already seen the video we uploaded, and he was absolutely ecstatic! The pure relief and joy in his voice was everything. I explained that we were currently wrapping up this quick key fob search but would drive right over to see him next.

Once we finished up atย  Pine Point (more on that story in another post!), we drove a few miles down the road to Bayley’s Campground to finally return the heirloom to its rightful owner.

When we met up with Sean, Gary and I decided to have a little bit of fun. Gary pulled out a completely different ring from his pocket and handed it over.

The befuddled look on Sean’s face was absolutely priceless as he turned it around in his fingers, frantically looking inside the band for those generational inscriptions.

After letting him sweat it out for just a quick second, Gary smiled, pulled out the authentic wedding ring, and said,

“๐–๐จ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ ๐ข๐ญ ๐›๐ž ๐ญ๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐จ๐ง๐ž?”

Sean peered inside the band, saw the dates, and beamed.

We all broke out into a huge wave of laughter! Sean was just completely overjoyed, chuckling with relief. A deeply sentimental, completely irreplaceable wedding ring that he genuinely thought was lost forever to the Atlantic Ocean was now home right where it belongs.

So, another priceless ring is back on the finger where it belongs. We truly have the best job in the world, and we love every single second of it.

Gold and Diamond Wedding Ring Lost In The Drakes Island Beach Sand, Found With A Metal Detector In Wells, Maine

“Hi there! I believe I lost my wedding ring on Drakes Island Beach today and heard about your services. Are you available?”

With that incoming 6:46 PM text, the clock instantly started ticking. A frantic search for a lost ring was officially underway!

Because it was now almost 7:00 PM and daylight would soon be a distant memory, I knew there wasnโ€™t a single second to waste. Instead of typing out a reply, I immediately called the number back. When time is working against you and the dark is rolling in, calling the client directly will always expedite the process much faster.

When the call went through, I identified myself and “Molly” thanked me for getting back to her so quickly. Molly explained that she and a group of family and friends had spent the day at Drakes Island Beach in Wells, Maine. Once the group finally packed up, left the beach, and Molly arrived home, she looked down and noticed her wedding ring was missing.

Molly explained she had taken her wedding ring off at the beach to apply lotion. Wanting to keep it safe, she had placed the ring into the cupholder of her beach chair.

We all know this story too well, don’t we? And we all know exactly what happened next. Molly forgot about the ring, picked up the chair, flipped it over to carry it, and walked off the beach!

She was incredibly stressed, but I reassured her that if it was dropped right where they were sitting, there was a great chance we could track it down. I hung up, quickly loaded my gear into the vehicle, and prepared to head out. But first, I needed a plan to find the exact location on an empty beach in the dark.

I asked Molly if she would be able to meet me down there to point out the grid area. Unfortunately, she was already at an out-of-town event and couldn’t make it back. Thinking fast, I told her I would send over an aerial satellite view of the beach and have her mark up the rough area where they had set up. She agreed, and within minutes, I had my map marked with the target zone.

๐Ÿ’Ž ๐’๐Œ๐€๐‹๐‹ ๐†๐Ž๐‹๐ƒ ๐ฏ๐ฌ. ๐…๐ˆ๐‚

Before heading out, I asked one more critical question: “What metal is the ring made of?”

“Gold, with diamonds,” she replied. Knowing it was a small woman’s ring meant it wasn’t going to be a massive, booming gold signal. It was going to be a delicate, low-to-mid conductor on the machine, meaning I would need to listen very closely to the faint, crisp tones to avoid missing it in the sand.

I told Molly that because of the heavy summer traffic, it usually takes me about 35 to 40 minutes to get down to Drakes Island Beach. I promised to leave immediately and told her that once I arrived, I would take a few photos of the beachfront house she had mentioned they were set up in front of to confirm we were looking at the right spot.

As any experienced detectorist knows, it is always best to have the client show you personally where they had set up. I have been on far too many searches where the client isn’t available, only to find out later that they sent me to the completely wrong section of the beach. Let’s be honestโ€”in the dark, or even the daylight, beaches all look the same, right?

With the house description in mind, Molly’s marked-up map on my phone, and the knowledge that I was looking for a small, delicate gold ring, Cheryl and I hit the summer traffic and made our way down to Wells.

Once Cheryl and I arrived, dusk was settling in, but there were still a few lingering beachgoers enjoying the late evening air. I quickly scanned the coastline and spotted the house Molly had described. To ensure we didn’t waste a single swing on a false lead, I snapped a few photos of the property and sent them over to her. Molly replied almost instantly, confirming that it was, in fact, the exact house they had set up in front of.

With the location locked in, the correct beach zone verified, and the daylight almost entirely gone, it was time to turn on the machine and start the grid search for that small gold ring.

My game plan was to start at the southern end of my grid area and work my way north, parallel to the Atlantic Ocean. I would search the entire width of the house footprint and then head back south from where I had started. If I wasn’t able to locate the ring there, I would then expand outward.

โšก ๐…๐Ž๐”๐๐ƒ ๐ˆ๐ ๐”๐๐ƒ๐„๐‘ ๐Ÿ”๐ŸŽ ๐’๐„๐‚๐Ž๐๐ƒ๐’!

On my first grid pass heading north, I found nothing but a few pieces of aluminum trash. I turned around and headed back south. Just a few steps into the return pass, a loud, clear, low tone rang through my headphones. As I swept my coil back over the target, I looked down and could actually see the outline of a small gold ring with stones sitting right there in the sand.

๐–๐Ž๐–!!! I had found Molly’s wedding ring in under 60 seconds of actual search time! Molly had put me spot-on the exact location and it paid off ๐๐ˆ๐† ๐“๐ˆ๐Œ๐„!!! ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ’ฅ

I brushed off the sand, took a few photos of the beautiful ring, and texted them over to Molly to share the good news. She replied almost immediately: “Yes! Thatโ€™s it. Thank you so much. Incredible โœจโœจโœจ”

๐Ÿค ๐๐‘๐Ž๐“๐„๐‚๐“๐ˆ๐๐† ๐Ž๐”๐‘ ๐‘๐„๐๐”๐“๐€๐“๐ˆ๐Ž๐

I then asked Molly if we could meet up somewhere so I could safely return the ring to her. Because she was still stuck out of town at her event, she told me, “You can just leave it on the porch doormat.”

As a professional, that just didn’t sit right with me. I replied, “I really donโ€™t want to leave it. My reputation is everything, and if by some chance it goes missing, I would just feel terrible. I can drive it back down to you tomorrow sometime if you like if youโ€™d rather not have me come out to Kennebunkport, but Kennebunkport really is on my way home. Itโ€™s not a problem.”

Molly texted back, “Are you sure? Weโ€™re in a super safe neighborhood! You can totally just leave it at the doormat.”

Understanding my perspective, Molly then suggested an alternative option: leaving it with her friend Becca, who had been at the beach with them earlier in the day. Becca lived right on Drakes Island, meaning Molly would easily be able to pick her wedding ring up from her the next day.

Perfect. I received Becca’s address, and Cheryl and I drove it right over in the pitch-dark. Although I wasn’t able to meet Molly in person, Cheryl and I left Becca’s house smiling once again. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿš˜

A short while later, I received one final text from Molly that made the whole rush worth it:

That was the emergency text that came in from Mike. He was down at Camp Ellis Beach, playing catch with a football in the surf the afternoon before when his ring slipped off into the ocean.

When Mike messaged me, he was already back at the beach, frustrated and stressed. As a Ring Finder, I know that time and tides wait for no one. I immediately asked Mike what exact time the ring was lost so I could calculate the tides. It was lost between 3:00 and 4:00 PM the day before. Looking at the clock, I knew right then:

I told Mike to save me a parking spot on Pearl Ave. Cheryl and I grabbed our gear, jumped in the truck, and headed straight out. Camp Ellis is just about four miles down Ferry Road from our home, so we pulled up to the beach in less than 15 minutes. When it comes to recoveries in the surf, every minute counts.

I grabbed my gear and headed onto the sand. As I arrived, a local detectorist told me that he had already been searching for two hours but wasn’t able to find it. He also mentioned he hadn’t searched the water or the wet sand. I thought to myself, โ€œOk then.โ€ My first instinct was that the diamond wedding ring was lost in up to two feet of water, and that is exactly where I was heading.

Mike and his family noticed our arrival and flagged us down. He walked me through the exact events of the previous day and pointed out the small, specific area where they had been throwing the football.

Then, Mike told me something that broke my heart. He said that when he lost the ring, he was so completely devastated that he just wanted to call the remainder of their vacation off right then and go home to Massachusetts. His wedding ring meant everything to him. He couldnโ€™t stand the thought of being on the beach, knowing his ring was buried under the water and sand, assuming he would probably never see it again.

Once I heard that, I looked at him and told him I would do everything humanly possible to find his extremely sentimental wedding ring. I explained the game plan to the family: with the tide already turning and starting to come back in, I would start right at the water’s edge, work my way south for about 25 feet, turn around, and head back northโ€”slowly and meticulously gridding the entire area.

I turned on my detector and thought: ๐‘ถ๐’Œ, ๐’๐’†๐’•’๐’” ๐’ˆ๐’†๐’• ๐‘ด๐’Š๐’Œ๐’†’๐’” ๐’˜๐’†๐’…๐’…๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ ๐’“๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ.

I took exactly two steps into the wet sand and water when my headphones lit up. I had my very first target. It was a beautiful, loud, low tone registering a The machine was telling me that whatever was down there was shallowโ€”just 0 to 2 inches beneath the surface.

I dug a quick scoop of the sand, threw it just outside the reach of the incoming water, and looked down. Shining right back at me was ๐Œ๐ˆ๐Š๐„’๐’ ๐†๐Ž๐‹๐ƒ ๐€๐๐ƒ ๐ƒ๐ˆ๐€๐Œ๐Ž๐๐ƒ ๐‘๐ˆ๐๐†!

Having just left Mike’s side less than a minute earlier, I knew how completely heartbroken he was, and I wasn’t going to make him wait another single second. I looked back up at the family, waved them down, and shouted: “๐Œ๐ข๐ค๐ž, ๐œ๐จ๐ฆ๐ž ๐ก๐ž๐ซ๐ž. ๐ˆ ๐ ๐จ๐ญ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐ .”

Mike and his family came running right down to me at the water’s edge, and an immediate wave of hugs, handshakes, and thank you’s ensued. You could visually see the heavy knot in Mike’s stomach and the crushing worry in his mind completely vanish in an instant.

I told him there was no better feeling than being able to help others get their lost history back. For me, it was all in a day’s work. Based on how he described losing it, I knew the ring would be in the shallow surf. Since the waves were minor, rings don’t move muchโ€”so I trusted my gut and went straight for that spot.

Tungsten Wedding Ring Lost In The Saco, Maine Surf, Found With A Metal Detector

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

? ???? ?? ??? ????????: ? ???? ??????? ??? ???? ????!

On August 4th at 6:26 PM, my phone rang. It was Jeremy, and he was in a complete panic. ?

Earlier that afternoon, Jeremy was enjoying a picture-perfect summer day at Kinney Shores right here in Saco, Maine. He was soaking up the sun and decided to cool off with a swim in the warm Atlantic Ocean… OK, letโ€™s be real, maybe not that warm. ?

While out braving the freezing Atlantic waters (is that better? ?), the unthinkable happened. Jeremy felt his Tungsten wedding ring slip right off his finger, sinking instantly into the shifting sands of the ocean floor.
Panic set in. He immediately began frantically searching the bottom, but the crashing waves made visibility absolutely zero. ?โŒ

But then, Jeremy did something brilliant. He kept his wits about him. He ????? dead in his tracks right where the ring dropped. He looked straight back toward the beach and locked his eyes onto a specific house sitting on the shoreline. A visual marker. It was a legendary decision that would change everything. ?

Jeremy kept fighting the elements to find it, but between the pounding surf and a rapidly incoming high tide, the ocean won round one. He was forced to abandon the search and make the long, heavy-hearted drive back home to New Hampshire for work the next morning. ??

Once he got home, Jeremy refused to give up hope. He frantically searched the internet for a solution and discovered ??? ???? ??????? ?? ????? and our ????????? ????? ????????? ????????.
Recognizing this was a race against time and shifting ocean currents, he immediately placed that fateful call to me. ?โœจ

With Jeremy still on the phone anxiously waiting, I instantly pulled up the local Saco tide chart. ?

The clock was ticking. High tide had peaked about 2.5 hours ago. Low tide was just over 3.5 hours away. That meant one thing: ??? ???? ??? ????? ???. ??

Jeremy had dropped the ring right at the mid-tide cycle. With the water receding by the minute, that tungsten wedding band would soon be exposed on wet sand instead of buried deep under breaking waves. It was the perfect window of opportunity.
I told Jeremy: ” ? โ„Ž?????? ??????โ„Ž? ???? ?? ?????? ?โ„Ž???? ???โ„Ž? ???. ?’? ????? ?? ?????? ?โ„Ž? ???? ???.” ??

The game plan? Use Jeremy’s incredible foresight. I was going to execute a flawless, tight grid search covering the entire width of that shoreline house he had locked his eyes on when the ring fell off. ?

I quickly loaded my gear into The Ring Finder Mobile and made the quick 10-minute drive down to Kinney Shores. Finding a parking spot right next to the beach access path during a busy Maine summer is usually a miracle in itself, but Lady Luck was on our side and I managed to snag a spot immediately! ??
Stepping onto the beach, I checked the time: ?:?? ??.

Looking out at the water, I calculated that if the ring wasnโ€™t already sitting under the newly exposed sand, it would be very shortly. Thanks to technology, Jeremy had texted me a photo of the exact shoreline house he had locked his eyes on. I spotted it instantly, set up my north and south grid search boundaries, and got to work.
The metal detector started humming. At first, I dug up the usual beach suspects: a few pieces of trash, a heavy fishing sinker, and a couple of stray coins. ??

The search area wasn’t huge, but I was moving fast and soon found myself standing right at the wet, crashing waterline. I had been swinging my detector for ?? ??????? ???????? without a single sign of tungsten.

I reached a critical crossroads. Do I turn around, head back to where I started, and search higher up toward the dry shore? Or do I keep pushing the limit? With the tide still actively going out and exposing fresh sand by the second, I made a gut-call decision: ???? ??? ?? ??? ???? ???? ?????? ????? ????? ??? ?????????. ??

As I headed south on that extra pass, I was closing in on my southern boundary when suddenly

A ????, perfectly repeatable mid-tone target completely filled my headphones. I looked down at my screen. The target identification number was locking in right in the low 50s. ?

The ultimate suspense: Was it just another lead fishing sinker… or was it a tungsten ring?
I dug my scoop deep into the wet sand, lifted it up, and threw the contents onto the surface. As the wet sand parted, there it was, sitting right on top. A beautiful, unmistakable tungsten wedding ring catching the fading daylight. ???????!!! ??

I had found Jeremy’s wedding ring in just ?? ??????? of searching!

And honestly? It was all because of Jeremy’s lightning-fast thinking. By freezing in his tracks and locking his eyes onto that exact house on the shore, he gave me the perfect map. ? (?? ??? ?????? ??? ?????? ???? ??????, ???? ???? ?? ????? ??? ??? ???? ????? ?? ??? ???? ?????? ?? ?????? ???? ?????! ??)

I pulled out my phone to record that video for him. Panning the camera over to the ring glistening in the sand, I said: “?โ€™?? ?????? ??? ????? ??? ????. ?โ€™? ??? ????? ?? ?????? ?? ?????. ?โ€™? ???????? ????? ???? ??????? ? ???? ????? ??! ???????????????!” ??

I pressed send on the video and waited. Literally ??? ?????? ?????, my phone lit up. It was Jeremy! ??

He was absolutely over the moon, overflowing with pure happiness and thanking me for the lightning-fast response to his plea for help. But more than anything, he was completely stunned. He couldn’t believe the ring had been found so incredibly fast! ?โœจ

With the sun setting over Saco, we coordinated the big return. As it turned out, Gary Hill and I already had an early 6:30 AM search planned for the next morning down at Footbridge Beach in Ogunquit, Maine, to look for a lost engagement and wedding ring set. ??

We hatched a perfect plan. Jeremy wanted his precious wedding ring back so badly that he agreed to drive up from New Hampshire extra early the next morning. He was willing to make a 2-hour round trip before his shift rather than endure the agonizing wait until after work! ??

The next morning, Gary and I had been swinging our detectors for about half an hour when Jeremy arrived, walking right out onto the sand to meet us. After plenty of celebratory handshakes and a full rehash of the wild search from the night before, Jeremy walked off Footbridge Beach one incredibly happy, smiling man. He felt whole once again. ?

Now, Gary and I had a couple of other rings to find on that beach, and it wouldn’t be easy… but that is a full story for a few weeks from now! ?

We truly have the best job in the world, and we absolutely love what we do.

If you or someone you know loses a ring, heirloom, phone, or keys on the beach, ?? ??? ????! Shifting sands and incoming tides can bury or move your items permanently within minutes. ?โณ
