Wedding Ring Lost in Gravel .. Glendale, CA. .. Found

After receiving an email from James this morning asking if I could help him. I sent him a reply asking for him to call me. His email explained that he had only been married for one month and had already lost his wedding ring. He believed that it possibly came off while he was walking his dog. At one point his dog got in a skirmish with another dog. That was when he thinks it may have come off his finger, although he didn’t realize his ring was missing until 20 minutes later.

James could not get off work till after 7pm and it would be dark. His wife, Sarah could meet me at 3pm which was our best alternative. She wasn’t there when it happened but she did have a matching ring that helped me get an ID reading with my detector and she had good idea of the location. Both James and Sarah had searched for some time before I got to the location. They believed it may be in the 3/4”gravel ground cover used in the planters along the sidewalk.

As I scanned the planters, Sarah asked me a few questions about how the detector works. I remember telling her to keep her eyes open because I can’t get the detector into plants and difficult spots. After about 45 minutes I heard Sarah yell, “I found it” The gravel was a light gray color very easy to hide a silver colored ring. I had just past the place where she saw the slight glimmer of the silver colored ring. It was right up against a sprinkler head wedged in amongst the gravel. The sprinkler head definitely masking the signal of the smaller ring because it was a larger metallic target.

This is not the first time the ring was found by eyeballing (visual sighting ) while trying to use use the metal detector, but it will not be the last time. All is good because James and Sarah now have their original wedding ring back where it belongs. James agreed that he was getting it sized before he wears it again. Surfer Loses Wedding Ring in Sand .. 1000 Steps Beach, South Laguna Beach, CA. .. Found and Returned

While searching for a wedding rings lost at Salt Creek Beach I received a call from Keoni. He was located at 1000 Steps Beach and had just discovered that his tungsten wedding ring had fallen out of his backpack. It had to be one of two places, as he had to move his belongings when the high surf came up on to the dry sand.

Keoni was late for an appointment and had to leave the beach. I told him that I knew the beach well and assured him I could get to the area of the loss with the directions he had given me. It was less than a mile from where I was when he called.

After a finding the first set of rings sooner than I thought, Drove to 1000 Steps Beach. It is only a couple hundred steps to the beach and going down is easy. Then I walked over to the location near the volleyball court where I used the photos that Keoni had texted me to start my grid. Picking a spot to start my grid, it took about 45 minutes to find Keoni’s ring.
The ring was found within two feet of where I started the grid search. It would have been just a few minutes if I had gone north instead of south.

I contacted Keoni and arranged to drop off his ring at his house as it was on my way home. He was very grateful for having his wedding ring returned. I think you can see by the smile in his photo.

Heirloom Diamond Wedding Rings Lost .. Salt Creek Beach, Dana Point, CA. ..Recovered

This search was a surprise to me as well as Farimah and her husband, Ehsan. Farimah had called me early Sunday morning asking for help to find two heirloom wedding rings that were lost somewhere at Salt Creek Beach near Dana Point, CA. She was devastated because two years ago her original wedding rings were stolen when her home was burglarized. These replacement rings were family heirlooms that were given to her by her mother in law.

Her description of what happened before discovering her rings were missing sounded like it could take many hours to search the large area she had been. A large section where she had walked was hard packed wet beach with many people on the beach. If the rings fell off there, they would have probably been picked up by other people that often walk the beach searching for sea shells.

Discussing the events of the day, Farimah did not remember doing any activity that would cause her rings to slip from her finger. The best clues I had was that she did realize the rings were missing before she left the beach and her husband, Ehsan had found a bottle cap that was at exact area where they had set on the beach.

I started where they had spent the most time sitting on the beach, then the 50 yard section of dry sand towards the restroom. Next I went to the damp soft sand where her daughter had been playing in the sand with other family members. I was dreading the 8 – 10 blocks of hard wet sand that she had walked. Then, Boom !! A Big beautiful diamond ring in the scoop. Next signal less than a foot away was the wedding band. I called Farimah telling her I needed some help.

They had walked down the beach to get some snacks from the little restaurant. Farimah walked up to me and I surprised her by holding up the wedding ring. She exploded with joy and before she could get her breath I said, how about this one, showing her the beautiful engagement ring. She was speechless and gave me a big hug. We had time to pull off another surprise, as Ehsan was still coming from snack shack, unaware that the rings had been found. She walked up to him presenting him with her own surprise. It was beautiful day for all.

Farimah told me she could not believe that the ring was found in that location because she had spent less than 10 minutes there. Another bonus was several of the people on the beach were also able to witness the return and learn about TheRingFinders metal detecting service.

Angry Wife Throws Wedding Ring .. Anaheim, CA. .. Found in Grass

Bill called me Sunday evening asking me if I could help him find a diamond wedding ring lost in his backyard grass.
I told him I could come that night if he couldn’t wait till tomorrow. We agreed to meet early the next morning.

When I arrived we walked into the backyard, where there was a metal detector and two rakes that Bill had used to unsuccessfully search for the ring. He was frustrated that he couldn’t find it. When I asked how the ring was lost, he told me that his wife had actually thrown the ring in a moment of anger. I told him that this happens more than people know. It’s looking like one out 10 calls I get are rings that were thrown.

After setting up a grid search the ring was located deep in the 3 inches of grass completely out of site. It must have been stepped on while searching. Even raking the grass didn’t pull it up.

I think Bill was a little embarrassed that this had happened. I just consoled him that ” This Happens More than People Know”

It was a good feeling to help him find the ring.

Platinum Wedding Ring Found in Grass .. Newport Beach, CA.

Nate called me reminding me that I had found his platinum wedding ring two weeks ago, when his wife Julie had dropped it in the sand. This time he had lost the same ring in their backyard possibly in the lawn. I was at his house within a half hour.

Nate was throwing a large beach ball to his son two days ago when he felt the platinum ring leave his finger. Several people spent two days searching the grass, but there were also some planters with wood chip ground cover that could hide it
and Nate thought it may have gone over the fence.

The grass area was the easiest to eliminate as a possible hiding place, so I started at one end of the 20ft. x 50ft lawn. Boom! The ring was hiding in the first few feet of my grid search. It was at the base of the grass and completely out of site because it was probably stepped on into the damp topsoil.

It was great to be able t help Nate find his ring one more time. He will be taking it back to get it resized.

Lost Ring .. White Gold with Diamonds .. Downey, CA. .. Found in Tot Lot

Amber called me after Sharon found TheRingFinders website. Her first question was to ask about how the service works? Her concern was, that she wasn’t sure where her,white gold with diamonds,ring was lost. Amber and Sharon had been several places including a sandy totlot and Chucky Cheese amusement center in Downey, CA. Amber noticed the ring missing that evening after several hours away from the house.

Amber thought it was probably lost at the Chucky Cheese business which would not leave much hope to find it. Sharon believed that the ring was at the totlot in the sand. After hearing the list of events and knowing that Amber had not felt ring slip off. It was now just a matter of eliminating the sandy totlot before some other detectorist found it.

I was out of town but told Amber that I could be at the location before 4pm. She agreed to meet me at the location as I had told her, our chances of finding the ring are better if she can narrow the search area. Both Amber and Sharon were there when I started the search, I could tell Amber had not much hope of finding the ring. She had to leave for a few minutes, so Sharon was there when I found the ring near the children’s slide. When I held up the ring, Sharon broke out with a giant smile and her eyes lit up. Then we waited for Amber to show up. That’s when we were able to make it a second surprise moment. As we walked up to her, I asked her if she had been near the swings. As she was answering me Sharon held the beautiful gold w/ diamond ring up for Amber to see. Surprise, another big smile from Amber.  Sharon was right about the location.

They were so nice and appreciative. I enjoyed helping them and it was worth the extra drive to have a successful search.

Sunday of Labor Day weekend, I was sitting near the office at the Newport Dunes RV Resort. Mike called asking if I could help him find his Platinum / White Gold wedding ring lost in dry sand. I asked him where he was located. He told me he was at the Newport Dunes on the beach. Couldn’t believe that I was less than 50 yards away. I walked over to talk to him, but had to go a couple blocks to get my detector.

When I returned Mike told me that he had put 3 rings in the cupholder of the beach chair and they fell out when picked up the chair. He found two of the rings but this one wouldn’t let him find it. The area was well marked off, so began a small grid search. Actually, I missed it on my first grid. It showed up in the scoop after I did a cross grid and it was a very scratchy signal, possibly because of the two different metals. The ring is mostly platinum with white gold filigree inlaid. I didn’t have time to re-scan the ring with my detector to learn why it was such an iffy signal. Possibly the ring was vertical in the sand which coming in from the other direction may have helped the signal? No time to play around we had photos to take for the book of smiles.

It was a good short search with smiles everywhere and Mike was grateful to have his wedding ring of 20 years back on his finger. I still can’t believe how close I was when he called.

Vip and Krishna are from the San Francisco Bay Area. They are visiting Laguna Beach on their vacation. While having lunch at the Cliff Restaurant, Vip’s Zirconium/ Rose Gold w/ black diamonds wedding band slipped off his finger falling into some dense Bougainvillea shrubbery. ( this plant has vicious thorns )

The staff at the restaurant helped him look for it and somebody suggested that he try to get a metal detector. Vip google searched metal detector and my name came up in TheRingFinders website. After calling me, I met them about 45 minutes after they called. The restaurant had one of the waitresses escort me to the lower deck where I could get behind the thick growth. I was hoping that the ring did not hang up in the dense upper growth. At ground level I couldn’t use my normal detector, even with a small sniper coil. Lots of obstacles and small metal trash.

I proceeded using a Garrett handheld pinpointer. After pulling out salt shaker tops, forks, bottle caps, etc., I reached under the Bougainvillea plants to pull out the dead leaves so I can scan them with the small pinpointer detector. While moving these dead leaves, I pulled the ring into an area that the waitress saw it as I began to detect the leaves.

There it is yelled the waitress! Many times one of the people helping finds the item while I’m searching. It doesn’t matter who finds it. It was just nice to see the smiles on Vip and Krishna’s faces, this is their first year of marriage and this ring very important to both them. Also losing a ring on vacation doesn’t make a good memory. Now they have a great story to add to this vacation.

It was a very ugly area to loose a ring you can see the area of the loss in the background of the photo. I was having second thoughts about how much time it would take to find this ring. Nevertheless it all worked out well with a successful find and smiles all around.

Albert and Martha had a nice day with their kids at Doheny State Beach until they returned to their car. That was when Martha remembered earlier in the day,  she had taken off her platinum and diamond wedding rings off to put on sunscreen. Getting distracted taking care of two youngsters she forgot to put the rings in a safer place. They were sure the rings were in the sand near where they had been sitting.

Albert went to his cell phone, Google searching ” How to find a ring in the sand.” That was how he found my information on TheRingFinders website. After his call to me, I assured him that I could find the rings if they could stay at the location.
We met on the beach a half hour later. Then it was a few minutes of swinging my metal detector in a 10’x 10′ area till the two beautiful platinum rings were found.

I wish all searches were this easy. Martha felt embarrassed that she was so careless, so I told her how many times people don’t realize they lose something till they get home. The success of this search was because Martha realized she lost the rings before too much time had passed and her husband used his smartphone to find a ringfinder.

Needless to say they were very happy to have the rings back where they belong. It was a pleasure to help them.

Platinum Wedding Ring Lost Six Days in Surf .. Newport Beach, CA. .. Recovered

Damian was visiting Newport Beach on a family vacation. While he was playing in the surf with his daughter at a small beach named Little Corona Delmar his platinum wedding band came off into waist deep water.

Diving in the surf zone is never a good idea but Damian tried unsuccessfully to locate the ring. Six days later he was back home in Missouri telling a co-worker about losing his ring. The person told Damian about TheRingFinders.

Damian contacted me at 10am in the morning. I was able to see that the next best low tide was at 12:30am. I tried not to raise his hopes, because our beaches vary so much and it had been six days. I compare it to the lottery with better odds. “You Can’t Find It, If You Don’t Try”

Little Corona DelMar is less than three miles from my place. I walked down to the beach at midnight and Damian’s Platinum ring of 18 years was in my scoop within a half hour. It was probably 8 inches deep and did not give me a strong with my Minelab Excalibur 2 metal detector.

We talked on the phone the next morning. It was a great conversation with Damian who was very excited saying over and over he couldn’t believe it. Three days in later he received the ring by mail.
I will try anywhere, this is one of the reasons I rarely say it’s not worth searching.
