Another Class Ring Reunited with Its Owner! 💍🇺🇸
What started as a fun Fourth of July family gathering at Lake Conroe ended with a missing class ring and a very worried owner.
Avery contacted Houston Metal Detecting Services after losing her treasured Louisiana State University (LSU) class ring while celebrating with family at her grandmother’s home in the beautiful April Sound community on Lake Conroe.
The day included water balloons, Dawn dish soap, and a slip-and-slide for the kids. Somewhere during the excitement, Avery’s LSU ring quietly slipped from her finger without anyone noticing.
Before calling, Avery did something that greatly helped the search—she reviewed family photos and videos from the day. By comparing the images, she narrowed down exactly when the ring disappeared, giving us a much smaller search area to work with.
When I arrived the following day, there was an added sense of urgency. The condominium association was expected to mow the lawn, and everyone was concerned the ring could be damaged or thrown by the mower.
This wasn’t an easy recovery.
The yard was covered in thick St. Augustine grass, the Texas heat index was pushing nearly 100°, and there was heavy electrical interference that made the metal detector extremely difficult to use. To make matters even more challenging, the ring was lying immediately beside a much larger buried metal object, causing its signal to be masked. In fact, I likely passed over the ring more than once before recognizing there was a second target hiding next to the larger one.
After slowing down, adjusting my search technique, and carefully working through the interference, the unmistakable signal finally came through.
A few moments later, Avery’s LSU class ring was safely back where it belonged! 🎉
I’ve recovered hundreds of lost rings over the years—including many Texas A&M rings—but this was my very first LSU class ring recovery, and it certainly made me earn it!
Congratulations, Avery, and thank you to both you and your grandmother, Joy, for trusting Houston Metal Detecting Services. It was a pleasure helping save another family keepsake.
