Lost Family Heirloom Gold Ring- Jockey’s Ridge State Park – Nags Head – Outer Banks, NC – Found

I got a call from a young lady Wednesday evening.  She said that she had lost her gold ring, which was a family heirloom, handed down to her from her grandma.  She was devastated because she had worn it swimming at Jockey’s Ridge State Park in Nag’s Head, NC.

I explained to her that metal detecting is not allowed in NC State Parks.  I advised her to call Jockey’s Ridge and explain the situation.  She called me a few minutes later saying that the Park Ranger Manager would allow it provided that I turn in any other items found during the search and that we could look the next morning.

I met her at the gate when it opened the next morning.  She took me down the path that they had taken to the beach and I first checked all the dry sand in the area that they set up.  No luck.  I began a grid search in the water that spanned about 50 yards…going deeper and deeper.

I found a few items that we not the target item (which I turned in at the Ranger station on the way out) and then on the 3rd pass…It rang up on the Minelab Equinox 800!!!

Congratulations on finding Grandma’s ring!!

Lost Men’s White Gold Wedding Ring – Nags Head – Outer Banks, NC – Found

I got a call from a Shawn today.  He had lost his white gold wedding ring on the beach in Nag’s Head in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  I asked Shawn the normal questions about if he knew where and was it in the water.

He said that he had been throwing a football and felt it slip off.  Shawn had done his due diligence and had marked of the area that he thought he had lost it.

When I arrived, I headed to the beach and met Shawn.  He had markers set up delineating the borders of the area to search.  I got the Minelab Equinox 800 running and within a minute heard a good signal.  I reached over and dug in the sand and boom.

Shawn told me that his anniversary was later in the week and this made him so happy!

Lost Men’s Gold Wedding Ring – Corolla Beach – Outer Banks, NC – Found

Chris called me and let me know that he had lost his ring in the surf.  I explained to him that when something is lost in the water the chance of finding it is not the best but I would come and see what I could do.

I arrived and he took me down the spot on the beach where he though he lost his ring.  He indicated that he had been tossing a football and felt it slip off.  He said that he had not gone far left or right from where his cabana and chair were and was not very deep.

I began the search in the shallow water working my way about 10 yards north and south of where he told me he was.  I worked my way deeper and deeper until I thought it could not have gone this far.  So I started over.  I started where the sand was just wet and expanded about 20 yard north BING.

Almost immediately my Minelab Equinox 800 sang it’s song.  I dug a small amount of sand and the ring was sticking out.  Chris and his wife were watching as I held up the ring!!!  He sprung up out of his chair and confirmed his lost ring.

Tomorrow is their 22nd Anniversary.   Happy Anniversary!!!

Lost Lady’s Class Ring – Kill Devil Hills – Outer Banks, NC – Found

On Friday the 10th I got a call from a young lady who had lost her 2020 class ring in the sand.  She was nearby in Kill Devils Hills so I told her that I could be there in about 15 minutes.

When I arrived, I met her at the beach access and she said that her parents were waiting on the beach.  When I arrived mom and dad said that they had just recently purchased the ring for their daughter.  It was brand new!

The dad had circled an area about 12 feet in diameter…so I began.  On second swipe I got a good hit on my Minelab Equinox 800.  I said, “It can’t be that easy, can it?”  I reached down and picked up and handful of sand that contained the ring.

Mom was thrilled and dad shook may hand (even though we aren’t supposed to do that anymore). They were both thrilled as was the young lady.

Lost Men’s Wedding Ring – Nags Head – Outer Banks, NC – Found

I received a call from a gentleman who had found my name on theringfinders.com.  He said that he had lost his white gold wedding band when he stood up with it in his lap on Nags Head beach.  He said that he knew exactly where he had lost it.

When I arrive Mike took me to the beach as showed me an area where his chairs and canopy was.  He was sure that the ring had dropped ring there.  I took my MineLab Equinox 800 over the area a few times and got no hits.  This area of the beach was very clean!

I expanded the search area to include the sides and fronts of the chair/canopy area…still no targets.  His friend’s area was just north of his area so I did a quick search and got an immediate hit!!

I reached down and got the ring and Mike said, “Look at you!  I don’t know how it could have gotten there, but I am so happy!”

Lost Diamond Engagement Ring – Corolla – Outer Banks, NC – Found

I received a call from a gentleman who said his wife had lost her engagement ring.  I went to their rental home in Corolla, NC.  He explained that his wife had lost her platinum diamond engagement ring but she wasn’t sure where or for how long it had been missing.

He walked with me from where they were staying; down the street, on a two block walkway, on an elevated stair over the dunes and down onto Corolla beach in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  He showed my were his items are on the beach and wear they had been on a previous day. (which was now occupied by another family)

I told the gentleman that this search could take hours and we may not find the ring because they weren’t certain when and where they lost it.  (They had even removed p-traps in the house looking for it). I had my grandson Andrew with me because he was visiting from the Virginia Beach area.  He had to be back to my house in 1 hours so he and his mom could leave.

We walked back to the house and I told him that I would let him know of any developments.  I decided to concentrate on the beach area as I began the search.  I used my Minelab Equinox 800 and Andrew used my pinpointer.  I began a grid search in the area where his chairs and umbrella was today.  It was a trash-target-rich environment.

After about 20 minute of searching the first chair area, I decided to look on the beach path between where the family had been on the previous day and where they were today.  Before long, I got a strong hit just beneath the surface.  I dug a small scoop and asked Andrew to use the pinpointer on it.  As he moved the sand around…….BAM!  I saw the shimmer of a diamond in the sand!!!

 

My grandson got the ring and held it up as I took a picture.  I texted a picture to the owners and immediately got a call.  The were ecstatic!  They said they couldn’t believe that I found it so quickly;  and frankly neither could I.

We walked back to the house were we were met by the happy couple and other families staying at the beach vacation rental. We gave them the husband his wife’s ring and he gave it his bride!  What a wonderful experience to make this family so happy and what a lesson for a 6 year-old!
