Thursday, Devon and his family had gone for dinner at the Castaways Restaurant on the beach at Crystal Cove State Beach just north of Laguna Beach, CA.
After their meal, they spent sometime on the beach. Devon had been throwing a football to his six year old son. After sunset they walked a few blocks to where they had parked the car. That’s when he discovered he had lost his wedding ring. He wasn’t quite sure when or where, but he assumed it happened while throwing the football.
They went back trying to search with their fingers in the sand.. Returning home frustrated, Devon went on line searching metal detectors for rent or for sale. That’s when he found TheRingfinders.com and contacted me. We met the next morning and he showed me the location. It was a 30 ft. Square area where he had stood in the center throwing in all directions. I decided to just start in the center and grid in a spiral. After a half hour it was not looking good. I was running out of search area. Devon stood back about 50 feet not to distract me, but I could see that he was loosing hope. Then the right sound and target ID number from my detector. One quick scoop and there was Devon’s ring. I held in the air and Devon’s face lit up with joy. Right away he called his wife to report the good news.
These searches, where the person doesn’t remember feeling the ring slip off their finger can go either way. It’s almost always a surprise when we find them.

Two Lost Diamond Rings Recovered in Hawi on the Big Island of Hawaii

We got an urgent call from a family on vacation who had lost two diamond rings in the water near Hawi, Hawaii (Big Island), while swimming with their children in the ocean.

We drove about 1 hour and 45 minutes to the small State Park of Keokea to recover the rings and met them in the parking lot.

It turns out that Avesta had lost both of her precious rings – one a diamond ring with a whooping 2.75 carats in platinum. The disappointment of both Avesta and her husband, Hamid, was visible at loosing their valuable rings but they were both optimistic at our chances of finding them.

I put my mask on and hit the shallow water with my Excalibur II metal detector. After a 30 minute search we had found a pocket full of coins but no rings. Swinging back into a sandy area, suddenly I heard the low growl of platinum in my metal detector’s headphones. “I don’t want to give you false hope but think I’ve found a ring,” I said.

Sure enough, the basket held a gleaming ring with nine diamonds in a row. Hamid picked it out of the basket, happy, and eager to see if the second ring was also nearby. As I put the detector back in the water, a second signal was instantly in the headphones!  And right there, we recovered both rings, one after the other, where they had been lost and sunken into the sand. The second ring we recovered was a whooping 2.75 carat diamond ring – you can see the joy and surprise on their faces on the video – when getting back their lost – and now found – treasure!

“Lucky me that I found you guys. Thank GOD!!!!!” Avesta wrote in an email the next day.  “Phewwww so lucky I am!! FYI it was our 8 year anniversary the day you found the ring, makes it even more special.”

Ring Found on Large Property .. Corona, Calif.

    imageJason called me Saturday evening from home in Corona, Calif. asking if I could help him. His friend had told him about TheRingFinders. He noticed his wedding ring missing after six hours of doing chores around his large property. Jason had spent a day and a half retracing all his activities in search of his wedding band. He lives on a large piece of property and had been doing a lot of work in almost every part of his yard. Almost everything he had been doing could have caused his ring to slip from his finger. He was taking down Christmas lighting decorations from his two story house, fences and trees. Dealing with hundreds of feet of cords coiling them up then putting them in storage boxes. He also took the Christmas tree from the house cutting off all the limbs to put them in large trash containers. On top of all that work he spend time cleaning his pool. All these activities were done without gloves and all these activities were the type of movements that would cause a ring to slip off a finger.

    During my 45 minute drive to Corona, my mind pictured a large property with a tough time consuming search. It’s more or less an adventure to go to an unknown location to search for a ring. Once getting to the location you need to ask as many questions as you can think of to narrow search area. The big decision is, “Where do you start ?” The last thing would be to empty all the trash from the containers and run the detector over the contents.

When I met Jason he took at least 15 minutes showing and explaining all the things he had done before noticing his ring missing. I can’t believe all the things he had been doing that morning he lost the ring. I put together a plan of attack to start in the backyard. My car was out front with my metal detector so I got my Minelab CTX 3030 set up. That’s when I changed my mind and began to tune up my detector in the front yard where Jason had taken decoration lights off a small tree. Guess what! Yes! White gold wedding band deep in the grass. 15 minutes to find it. This happens quite often at the beach, but not in situations where people notice the ring missing after hours sense that last remember seeing it. A little side note.. I’ve found several men’s wedding bands. Most the time the wife is more concerned about finding the ring. Most the time the wife calls. Sometimes the guys say they are in the dog house for losing the ring. In Jason’s case he was sincerely concerned about finding his ring. I got high fives and a big man hug.
