Double Ring Recovery in Surf City, LBI – NJ Ring Finder Saves Sentimental Family Heirlooms

James reached out to me asking if I was available to help search for two lost rings—both incredibly sentimental pieces that had belonged to his father. He’d been wearing them for years, so when they went missing, it was devastating.

James and his family were staying at their longtime summer rental in Surf City, Long Beach Island (LBI)—a house they’ve been visiting for over 20 years. That day, they walked down their private beach access and set up their chairs near the high tide line. At some point, James removed the rings and tucked them into the cupholder of his beach chair for safekeeping.

But when it was time to head back to the house, they packed up the chairs and gear—only realizing after the long walk back that the rings were still in the cupholder. He rushed back to the beach and scanned the area thoroughly but came up empty. That’s when he decided to call me.

I met James within 20 minutes. Using a few pictures he had taken earlier in the day, we were able to pinpoint exactly where they had been set up on the beach. I began my search in the area where the chairs had been, with no success. Then I expanded the search area, sweeping five paths wide on the route back toward the house—still nothing.

At this point, I was scratching my head. In my experience, rings stored in a cupholder usually fall out when the chair is folded up, and if not, it’s not far from that point where they slip out. But in this case, the rings had apparently stayed in the chair pocket all the way up the beach. I kept going, grid searching all the way up to the dunes.

Finally, after a couple more passes, I hit a solid signal. Sure enough—there were both rings!

James had started to look understandably worried, fearing the rings may have been lost forever—but he was in good hands with NJ Ring Finder Edward Trapper.
