On August 14, 2026, just before 11 a.m., I was returning home from a successful ring find in Myrtle Beach when I received a text saying, “Hi Jim! Found your number on ring finders. My husband just lost his wedding ring while swimming in the ocean. We’re on the 500 block of Holden Beach and wondering if you might be able to help us out.” I already knew the tide was going out, so it depended on how deep her husband was swimming on whether to go then or wait for a lower tide. Since I was driving, I texted her to call me and sent my number. Kendall almost immediately called back and told me her husband, Jim was probably about chest deep when he lost it. I decided I’d give the tide a little more time to recede and told her I’d be there around 2.
I arrived at the address Kendall had given me and sent her a text at 2:05 p.m., saying “I’m here.” I met Kendall and Jim and as we’re walking out to the beach, Jim gave me additional information, including pointing out the suspected loss area. I asked him to show me the far end of where he thought he was and we started walking! During our walk, Jim told me he was holding his daughter’s hand and felt his ring come off. That little hint told me his ring wouldn’t be to his chest deep, which was good for me because he was taller than I was. We probably walked down the beach from where the family had set up to about 6-7 houses. This was going to be a large search area, but I was up for the task. I started an east/west grid search from the high tide line down to about waist deep in the ocean. I hadn’t gotten too far before I got a great signal and in the 16-18 range on the VDI (visual display indicator) that I was looking for on a man’s larger gold ring. I dug a couple of scoops of sand, spread it out on the beach and saw what I hoped was Jim’s gold ring. I walked back across the beach, ring in hand and saw Jim coming back on the beach from the house. I held the ring up and asked, “Yours?” A big smile showed up on his face when he inspected the engraving on the inside of the ring and confirmed it was his. Kendall came out shortly after and she too confirmed the engraving. All toll; it maybe took 25 minutes. Jim and Kendall walked me back to my car and I was on my way. Knowing I was leaving another couple extremely happy and relieved that they had their treasure back where it belongs.
