Ortley Beach ring recoveryThe Ring Finder South Jersey

It was early on a Saturday morning when I received a phone call from a gentleman asking if I could help recover a wedding ring that had been lost on the beach. He explained that the ring had simply been dropped at their feet, but despite everyone searching, they couldn’t find it.

I told him I had a small window of time before heading to the beach with my own family and that I’d be happy to stop and help. He said he’d call me back shortly.

A few minutes later, I received a call from Guy, the gentleman who had actually lost the ring. I explained that I was just getting ready to leave with my family, but since he was along the way, I’d be glad to stop. I did tell him, however, that he needed to have a good idea where the ring was lost. It couldn’t turn into a two-hour search. Guy assured me the ring was in a very small area, about 5 feet by 5 feet. I told him I’d text him my ETA once I was on the road.

When I arrived, Guy was waiting for me at the beach entrance. We walked up to his cabana, and he pointed out the small area where he believed the ring had fallen. He couldn’t understand how it had simply disappeared into the sand.

One or two swings of the metal detector later, I got a solid signal. One scoop of sand, a quick shake, and Guy’s wedding ring was sitting safely in the bottom of my scoop.

Guy was completely amazed. He told me he didn’t think I’d actually be able to find it. I laughed and replied, “Well then, why did you call me?”

Everyone nearby had been helping search for the ring before I arrived, and they were just as amazed to see it recovered so quickly.
