On the morning of June 25, 2026, I received a message from my longtime friend Jaymie about a lost ring posted on Facebook. Upon reading the post and noticing that it was just a half-mile away, I quickly messaged the individual. While waiting for a response, I was contacted by Bob Mairs, the administrator of Saint Augustine Treasure Hunters, about the same ring. I informed him that I was on my way to the location. Bob coordinated with the post originator while I prepared and drove to the spot.
The evening before, Michael had just proposed to Sadie on the beach. The love and joy of the moment, coupled with the setting sun and their special location, made it an incredibly memorable occasion. As they strolled in the shallow water of the beach, celebrating their new life together, the ring slipped off Sadie’s finger. They frantically searched for it, but within 20 minutes of their joyous moment, the engagement ring was gone.
This wasn’t just any engagement ring; it held immense sentimental and emotional value. It was a symbol of the deep bond of love between a mother and daughter. Michael had proposed using Sadie’s late mother’s ring. Sadie’s mother had tragically passed away in a motor vehicle accident when she was a young child. The only remaining possession of her mother was this engagement ring. I can only imagine the devastation that was coursing through Sadie’s heart and mind as she desperately searched for her ring.
Driving to the location, I prayed that I could find the ring before I had to leave for my VA appointment in Jacksonville. Fortunately, Bob managed to connect with Michael’s mother and informed me that they would meet me at the location. When I arrived, Sadie and Michael were both there and pointed to the area where the ring had been lost. Fortunately, the tide was approximately the same as when they had lost the ring 12+ hours earlier. Quickly covering the shallow water area, I didn’t have to wait long before I heard a beautiful tone in my headset.
Within my first scoop, I spotted the ring. Safely keeping it inside the scoop, I stepped out of the water onto the beach. I beckoned them to join me. Even with her sunglasses on, Sadie’s eyes and smile conveyed her excitement. I mentioned that I needed to leave immediately for a medical appointment. We exchanged hugs, shook hands, and they expressed their immense gratitude. Later that morning, I received a personal message that revealed the ring’s significance to this young lady. I must admit that my wife and I both shed tears after reading her message.
