Tiny Gold Band Recovery – East Bay Regional Park
15 months after losing her partner’s wedding band on a camping trip, I returned with Kathy to search their last campsite in the East Bay hills. I was skeptical of our chances of locating her ring in a public place after more than a year. But Kathy was not giving up on locating her lost, late wife’s, wedding band.
Kathy had heard about The Ring Finders from her son, who read about our work in a recent article in Atlantic Magazine. With hope and optimism, she decided to give us a try.
She took me to a beautiful redwood grove and showed me where they had made a fire, and where they pitched their tents. I set up shop by the fire ring and began a slow outward spiral grid search from the pit. On my 5th rotation, about 20 feet from the fire pit, underneath the deep redwood pine straw, under an inch of dirt, was her tiny gold band.

Astonishing simple and beautiful design, detecting it, and first seeing it in the dirt, was a magical experience.
15 months later. A priceless keepsake returned. Never give up.
