***Manual and his family were at Aliso Beach which is part of Orange County , CA. Park system. . He gave his gold ring to his girlfriend for safekeeping while he went for a swim.  She put it on her finger. A couple hours later as they were picking up to go home, the ring was not on her finger. Everybody in the group unsuccessfully searched the sand. I was called to help.
The ring had to be there as they had not left the area. They called me and met them at  Aliso Beach. After gridding the area for an hour, I ask them to re-check all the items in their campsite, because the ring was not in the sand.. Boom!! the ring showed up in the baby stroller.. Another example that searching for a lost item is a process of elimination. I could feel confident that the ring wasn’t in the sand before suggesting they recheck containers, etc. in their campsite… This time I was still at the site when the ring was located.

*** Chris and Deserea went to Huntington City Beach for a relaxing day at the beach. The first 15 minutes as they were setting up their beach blanket and umbrella Chris brushed some sand off his pants and his gold wedding band went flying off his finger disappearing into the soft dry sand.

He didn’t waste time trying to find it as this has happened to him in the past.. Finding small metal items in the sand can be an ordeal and heavy metals can slip through your fingers dropping deeper every time you miss it.. Chris did the right thing by not wasting time trying to find the needle in the haystack.
He called me and I was at his location after driving 7 miles. Shortly after turning on my detector, His ring was found and returned to him. He and Deserea could enjoy the rest of the day on the beach. Not worrying about whether or not the ring was lost forever. There is experienced metal detectorist that have many years of using a metal detector in many different conditions that can be found on line by doing a google search .

I was able to meet him an hour after he called me. He had errands to take care of so he left me in the zone of the loss which was probably 3 or 4 volleyball courts.

I spent two hours grid searching before finding the gold eye pendant. The other pendant never showed up..

Family Crest Signet Ring Lost at Santa Monica or Venice Beach California

***  I was asked to help Coner to find his lost gold family crest ring in the sand at a Santa Monica Beach. He is an avid rugby player and has weekly beach rugby  tournaments near home.

I met him on the beach in Santa Monica. He showed me an area that the ring could be. Coner said he normally puts his watch and ring in his shoe that are not worn while playing. After the game he only had the watch in the shoe. He believed it was possible that he didn’t remove his ring before playing the game. I searched the whole area and could not find the ring.

A week later Coner called, telling me that he was reviewing videos of a practice he did a few days before the tournament. The video showed the ring on his finger. It actually showed the ring missing after he had passed the rugby ball. The video actually showed a black spot in the air that could be the ring.

I agreed to meet Coner at Venice beach, a mile from the original location. He sent me the video clip which made me feel we had a chance to find his ring. At least we could grid search the area to prove it wasn’t there.

This turned out to be worth the two trips across town. The Gold Ring was still in the sand after lost for more than a week. This search was much shorter than the first search because the video had a lifeguard tower 30 or 40 ft. from where the ring came off. Landmarks and videos do help to make searches successful.

……………………………………………………

Many Searches are unique. It’s important to ask the right questions when someone asks for help. Even though they are positive what and where the loss happened, they may not put you in the location of the loss.

First unsuccessful search was a mile from where the ring was eventually found a week later after Coner’s friend had reviewed the rugby practice video and he called me to get my opinion.

…Kayla  was enjoying a beach party at “T Street Beach”, San Clemente, CA. when she lost her diamond engagement ring in the sand. She was recently engaged and wanted  to show off her beautiful new ring to her friends.

Normally, she would not wear jewelry to the beach. This time was an exception because she would only be sitting on the beach, promising herself to be very careful with her new ring.

She was standing next to the refreshment table when someone unexpectedly tossed her a volleyball. She caught the ball and threw it back to the person. Her new engagement ring went flying off her finger into the sand.

After two hours with a dozen people trying to find the ring, she called me for help. I was on the beach after driving 20 miles a half hour before sunset. It did take awhile to find the ring, because it had landed in a place where there had been an old firepit, littered with nails and aluminum trash. One of the obstacles that interfere with metal detectors is trash metal. One reason to call an experienced metal detector professional. Also it does help to know the general area of the loss. Kayla did her part by marking the spot she was standing when her ring flew off her finger. I showed up in a promptly with the best metal detecting equipment to make this a successful recovery..  I love helping people like Kayla find their cherished sentimental jewelry.
