Tough Gold Wedding Band Recovery in Tall Grass on Alameda Island, California 94301

from San Francisco (California, United States)
Contact: 1-415-895-0334

On a recent evening, Bob attempted to cut across a planted area between parking rows, misjudged the step down and ended up tumbling into a bed of deep decorative cut grass. His glasses fell off into the deep grass, and after searching for over an hour in the semi darkness, he was miraculously able to recover them, but then noticed he was now missing his gold wedding band. So back into the grass  he went. Nackered after a hours of searching, his wife found me late that night and we made arrangemdnts to meet in the morning.

Previous experience searching through dense ivy and thick bushes has taught me that this can be very frustrating because you don’t know if the item has hung up in the top of the bushes or fallen all the way down to the ground. So you have to search vertically as well as horizontally. Visibility is also an issue through all the vegetation.

The search area was only about 6′ x 12′. The small coil on my AT-Pro was perfect for searching the ground between the dense clumps of tall grass, as well as for scanning the tall leaves. At first I searched the area where Bob had landed on his butt and lost his glasses. Frustrated after beating the bushes for over an hour, I guessed that maybe he lost his ring when he went over the wall (which was full of heavy rebar and sprinkler control wires in the gold range). Sure enough, the ring was buried deep in the middle of a large clump next to the short wall, which I first detected with the AT-Pro and then located with my Garrett pinpointer.

Bob re-united with his beautiful gold band!

Funny Note: Bob had previously lost his wedding rings in Yosemite National Park, the Kern River and the Pacific Ocean. He was very glad not to need to replace it again!

Vacaville Backyard Yields up Lost Neil Lane Diamond Engagement Ring after Missing for a Week!

from San Francisco (California, United States)

b

They were partying on Friday night and somehow she lost her wedding ring in the back yard. Reality set in the next morning, “OMG, where’s my ring?”. He vaguely remembered her tossing it out the back door, but that was it. Frantic, they searched and searched the 30×50′ backyard day after day. He even rented a metal detector for a day. No luck.

Fortunately, when she texted me a few days later asking about my recovery rate, I had a business meeting in nearby Fairfield that Friday, and agreed to search after my meeting.

I arrived about 3PM and it was still 110 degrees outside. It had been a week, and morale in the home was poor. She was feeling really lousy about losing her ring, he was at the end of his wits. I was their last hope.

She showed me the matching platinum engagement band. I scanned it, dialed in my trusty AT-Pro and began a careful grid search of the back yard with the husband. Then we searched the side neighbor’s yard, found a 14k gold angel pendant and returned it the neighbor, who was very grateful, searched the other neighbor’s back yard, found nothing, and then returned to his backyard for a cross grid search. When you are out of options, always cross grid search.

After three excruciating hours in the sun, the clients had completely given up and I was suffering mild heat exhaustion. But on my final cross grid pass, right outside their back door, I got the signal I had been searching for! Boom!!!

Her exquisite Neil Lane platinum nesting engagement band, and diamond wedding ring, turned out to be very expensive. She was “over the moon” to have it back together. It made their Labor Day Weekend all the more relaxing, and a smooth return their happy marriage.

My recovery rate is is about 95% if the object is still there in the area. Don’t wait a week to call a pro!

“My wife tossed her wedding ring into a patch of vines, leaves and brush. Really dense. I have a detector, but was only able to uncover a few cans and a Capri Sun. I am afraid this might be beyond your scope or perhaps you are up for a challenge. I am confident that its in this area (marin/tiburon) neighborhood. If you are interested, what is the typical reward offered and when are you available. I can send pics to give you a better idea of what we are dealing with.

I’m feeling desperate and my wife is heartbroken. The ring may not be worth a ton of money, but has sentimental value of course…and is not insured (my fault)…so of course I’m getting desperate.
Please let me know or maybe you know of someone that might be able to help. Thank you so much!”

The photos didn’t look promising. This is where he had been searching with his own detector, tearing out a lot of the ivy to find the ring:
But I had faith in my Garrett AT Pro detector, and found the ring in 7 minutes, inches from the curb, buried in the dirt. The ring had skipped along the pavement and bounced into the ivy. After over 2 months, and probably being stepped on, it had worked it’s way down into the soil under the ivy.
Beautiful, classic antique style, 1 carat, high clarity and color, old cut, cushion shaped solitaire diamond, with two rows of intricately hand set pave diamonds set around the top, and down the sides. The ring was custom designed by her father and made by his friend, both deceased.
Marshall, he wrote, “I can’t thank you enough for your prompt and professional service and for probably saving our marriage!”  Another marriage preserved, hopefully as durable as her ring!

Lost Gold Wedding Band Recovered Under Backseat of Mercedes – Brisbane, CA 94005

from San Francisco (California, United States)
Contact: 1-415-895-0334

A not so happy Christmas was shaping up for Brisbane, CA resident Lester and his wife. While on their way home, in the back seat of their son’s Mercedes on Christmas Eve, Sara asked to see her husband’s wedding band. It was late, dark and cold when they reached their son’s home, when Lester asked about his ring as they were walking to the front door.  No ring!

They went outside early on Christmas morning to search in the grass, around the driveway, on the sidewalk and in the street, but still no ring.

Two days later Lester  decided to rent a metal detector, and was searching online when he found me under Metal Detecting on Craig’s List. He explained that his wife thought she dropped his ring in the car but they had thoroughly searched the rear floor area 4 times. Being a new vehicle, it was pretty clean inside. So they thought the ring must have dropped outside the car while they were exiting. They wanted me to metal detect the dry, short grass, next to their driveway. (And also the sidewalk and street, haha.)

This is where deductive reasoning came into play. It was very easy to visually see that the ring was not on the dry grass next to the driveway, nor on the sidewalk or in the street. They had carefully searched those areas the first thing the next morning. Sara remembered that she had dropped the ring in the car, and that they had decided to wait and search the car in the light of the morning. I quickly deduced that the ring must somehow still be in the new Mercedes.

On my knees, with a strong flashlight, I again searched the driver’s side rear passenger floorboard, front seat rails, small floor heating vent and mechanical front seat wiring. No ring. Undaunted in my conviction that the ring must still be in the car, I shined my flashlight down the rear seat belt hole in the seat and Eureka, there is was, sitting on a little shelf, just under the seat. As soon as I nudged it, it fell further down, on to the metal chassis deck, and out of sight.

But at least we knew where it was! After tearing out the rear trunk liner to find no access, I was finally able to pry up the rear bench seat just enough to get my hand down and grab the ring!

My hero Sherlock Holmes would have been very pleased. This is a great reminder that there is always a logical explanation for getting to the bottom of a mystery and it pays to have faith in your reasoning. Metal detecting had nothing to do with this solution. In this set of circumstances, it was just old fashioned logic that led to another closed case for The Ringfinders! Its what we do.

Lester, who works for Grainger Supply, had recently lost a little weight, thus the tape on his beautiful gold wedding band. His cool demeanor belies his intense underlying inner joy about the recovery!

Diamond Ring Lost For a Month Recovered in El Granada, California 94019

from San Francisco (California, United States)
Contact: 1-415-895-0334

Adrian was trying to work in her garden but her two little dogs insisted on wanting to play ball in her wild back yard. She kept throwing the ball for them until she noticed her father’s diamond ring also go flying, deep into the grass and tall clover, lush from our heavy December rains. Even though Adrian watched her ring disappear, she searched her back yard fruitlessly for over a month. Her husband even burned down the grass to make it easier to find, but no luck! Finally, her father, a Redwood City jeweler, gave her one of my THR business cards that I had left at his shop several months ago. Adrian called me on Friday, and by Tuesday afternoon, after two hours of searching, I recovered her ring in deep grass, under about 1/2 inch of mud. Because this was a treasured gift from her father, Adrian said it’s more dear to her than her wedding ring!

Adrian went crazy when I returned her ring to her! She was VERY happy.

After being lost for over a month, she was more than overjoyed to get it back. She danced around screaming and yelling and gave me at least 6 hugs! That’s what it’s all about! Adrian thought her ring was made of yellow and white gold, but my detector indicated more of a platinum signal. Either way, it’s a very beautiful filigree and diamond ring, and one of my most satisfying recoveries!
