Lost and found IPhone 10 in Trenton Ontario

  • from Cobourg (Ontario, Canada)

Received a text from Tim about two weeks ago, about how he had lost his cell phone at a local dock in Trenton Ontario. The phone was sitting on an empty baby carriage, with a water bottle, and the wind blew the carriage into the water. Now, the issue was that he since had left this location, on their boat, to Kingston and could not meet up at the dock. After exchanging information and pictures of the dock, I went for a scuba dive trying to locate his phone. Unfortunately, the bottom was extremely silty, with lots of weeds, and working again in zero visibility. Using my underwater metal detector, I was able to find (feel) a cell phone but not the right one. I went back a couple days later, this time using a strong fishing magnet but no luck. Finally, after talking with Tim again and fine tuning exactly where the phone had fell in, I went for a third time, scuba diving, and manage to find his phone. Another happy ending!

Couple Married for 62 Years is Reunited with Lost Wedding Ring Found by Their Metal Detecting Hospice Chaplain

  • from Menomonee Falls (Wisconsin, United States)

2020 was a rough year, but Judith and Dewey Sherman, married for over half a century, took comfort in knowing that they had each other.
That year, Dewey had lost his wedding ring while outside doing yard work near a lake. The ring that he had worn for over 60 years was gone. Dewey searched and searched, but his ring was nowhere to be found.

It could have been anywhere—under the murky depths of the nearby lake, lying between a crevice of rocks on the shore, buried in the grass or soil. Perhaps a crow or blackbird carried the ring far away. Crushed, Dewey resigned that he would likely never find his ring again.

Two years passed, and Judith had become ill. In 2022, she was receiving care at home from a St. Croix Hospice team including Chaplain Paul Humphreys. In addition to being a hospice chaplain, Paul also happens to be an expert metal detectorist, and he’s been recovering long-lost valuables for more than 40 years all across the globe.

One morning, during a spiritual care visit with Judith and Dewey, Paul learned about Dewey’s lost ring and knew he wanted to help.

With the couple’s permission, Paul returned to their home later that same day, offered up a silent prayer and set to work searching under the water with his SCUBA-rated equipment. A myriad of signals from the lake’s murky bottom bore testimony to decades of human presence—rusty iron, nuts, bolts, tin, nails, beer cans and a century-old spoon. But, after an hour of searching in the water, Dewey’s wedding ring failed to surface.

Moving onto the shore, an overwhelming array of metallic signals chirped their presence in Paul’s headphones. Ferreting a gold ring out from all the noise was challenging, even for someone with his knowledge and expertise.

After nearly three hours of searching, a faint signal on Paul’s detector begged investigation. Cutting a plug of grass about six inches deep, Paul turned the sod over and exposed the soil and roots beneath. The metal detector’s signal was now clear and crisp. Breaking open the clump, Dewey’s wedding ring suddenly flashed golden in the evening sun.

Returning to the house, Chaplain Paul discreetly slipped the ring to Judith. “I want you to be the one to give it to him,” he told her.
When Dewey appeared, Judith asked him to come and sit beside her. With her face radiating love and grace, she held out her hand to Dewey and opened it to reveal the ring she had given him 62 years before. The emotions of that moment, Paul said, “…were beyond words!”

62 years ago, that same ring had been exchanged along with their vows. Dewey and Judith had promised to love and cherish each other all their lives, “for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health.” Through Judith’s declining health, Dewey remained by her side until she passed away peacefully in September 2022.

Like Dewey’s ring, quality time with our loved ones is precious. Chaplain Paul and the caregivers at St. Croix Hospice dedicate themselves to helping patients and their loved ones make the most out of each and every moment.

This story is shared in loving memory of Judith Sherman.

Double-Arm Backstroke Ring Found! Lake Butte des Morts, Wisconsin!

  • from Menomonee Falls (Wisconsin, United States)

Sunday, September 4, 2022, found Minneapolis couple and their family, Jason & Kate Helquist, enjoying Lake Butte des Morts in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. It was a perfect weekend away with friends.

Anchored off shore in a boat, the family had taken to swimming in the lake shallows. But delight turned to disappointment when Jason’s platinum wedding ring went missing. He was performing a double-arm backstroke, churning up the water in a splashy escape from his teen-aged daughter’s playful attack. The force pulled the otherwise snug-fitting ring from his finger.

Kate contacted me the next day when she discovered The Ring Finder’s directory of metal-detecting specialists. Who knew!

Technology can be so helpful. Kate sent me a marked-up Google satellite image of the location. Calculating the search area, I determined it covered nearly the size of ten volleyball courts. On land, no problem. In water, definitely more challenging! I also learned the water was about 3 ½ to 4 feet deep, making a wading search feasible. However, finding a postage-stamp-sized object in a vast lake would require patience and an extra-careful grid search. There was little room for error.

We arranged to meet early, Wednesday, September 14. Kate left her home in Minneapolis in the wee small hours of the morning to make the 3 ½ hour drive to Oshkosh. I drove 1 ½ hours from my home. Upon arrival, Kate expressed how she was at peace about the outcome either way, but I could sense deep down she was hoping for a miracle. Clearly, it was more than just a ring.

A kind land owner granted access to the area from his lakefront home. Once in the water, I set out four marker buoys and began a systematic search using the latest water-detecting equipment from XP Deus. The usual targets were retrieved, pull tabs, bottle caps, fishing lures, coins, boat parts, shotgun brass from long-ago duck hunters. Lake bottoms tell so many stories. However, Jason’s ring eluded discovery.

Kate and a friend waited expectantly on shore. After three-plus meticulous hours, I consulted with Kate again and we agreed to expand the search area. It was not long after, Jason’s wedding ring lay glistening in my scoop!

Gear in tow, I waded back to the boat dock where Kate met me. Retrieving the ring from my pouch, I reached up from the water and placed it into her trembling hand. Tears flowed—the most-happy kind! A FaceTime call to Jason in Minneapolis revealed a smile that, like Kate’s, confirmed the deep love represented by a well-worn, lost-but-now-found wedding ring!

If you or someone you know has lost a ring, don’t give up hope. Let a metal-detecting specialist at TheRingFinders.com put a smile on your face!

I received a text message late last night and when I woke up in the morning I saw that somebody was in need of my service. I sent back a text message to call anytime and at 7:20 AM the young man called and we discussed the search and location, I headed out immediately as it was a nice day and I knew the crowds would be hitting the beach and we wanted to get there before them.

When I arrived the young man showed me the area where he believed the ring was lost, it was a big area, the story goes that he was playing catch with his son and didn’t realize his ring was missing until he got home. He raced back to the beach and searched until dark, when he got home he googled how to find a lost ring and found me online and sent me a text message late night.

I woke up and saw his text message I replied to call me as soon as possible and it’s 7:20 AM I got the call, we discussed the location and set up a time to meet at 8 AM. When I arrive to the Beach he show me the approximate area where he believed he lost his ring however he wasn’t 100% sure because he was wearing a baseball glove, it had to come off his finger when he removed his hand from the glove.

After over one and a half hours of grid searching I saw his beautiful white gold ring in my scoop! I will never get tired of seeing how this affects peoples lives and how happy you can make somebody feel. Unfortunately this young man did not want to be on the Internet so no photos or video for this search it happens and that’s OK the most important thing was to find that ring!

Lost Ring English Bay Beach

I got a call this afternoon in regards to a lost silver spoon ring that was custom-made for this young lady and other family members by their Nana who is 99 years old. I was on my way to Chilliwack for a search when it got called off so I headed straight to English Bay beach to help Kathy.

It was Sunday and it was a nice sunny day and it didn’t take me too long to get there and meet Kathy and hear the story on what this ring meant to her and how important it was to get it back. The fact that it was lost the same day I felt confident I would pull this out of the sand for her, it’s just a matter of doing a grid search to find it.  Kathy told me she was at the beach when a volleyball came towards her and she picked it up and threw it back to the players and that’s when her ring came flying off of her finger.

She told me that her hands were cold and the ring flew off with the ball towards the players, she and others search but could not find the ring, sadly. She called her boyfriend and he went online and found TheRingFinders. When I arrived I must’ve had three or four people come up to me and see a lady had lost her ring and I told her I was there to help that lady and they were very happy to hear that, so nice that so many people cared for this young lady and we’re all hope for I will find a ring for her.

It didn’t take long to find that beautiful silver spoon ring, it was nowhere near where Kathy thought the ring would be, it was almost where she was standing and that’s because the ring came off on the downward swing of the throw.

Gold Necklace Recovered In Millstone New Jersey by Dennis Burlingame

Got a call from David on Wednesday while at work asking if I could help locating a necklace his daughter Reese lost while playing in a field with her friends. While being chased by her friends, running her hand came up and caught her necklace ripping it off her neck. She was devastated, the necklace was a gift from her late grandmother who passed away last October from cancer. She has worn it everyday since she received it. David went out that night with a flashlight for a couple of hours hoping to see it but had no luck. That’s when he contacted me for help. I told him I’d come out Friday after work to look for it. Luckily her sister had an identical necklace and I used that one to make sure I could detect it seeing it was such a thin delicate chain. I couldn’t detect the chain itself but was able to hear the stone wrapped in gold that was on the chain. They showed me an area they thought it might of been, but after awhile I had no luck. I asked Reese to think again what happened and she said it might of been over a little bit from where I had detected. Tried there but still no luck. It was getting late and I told him I’d try again the next morning. They were away Saturday, but I went back and really grid the last area we were in and about 2 3rds the way through it I found her necklace. I texted David the good news and he couldn’t believe it. They were so grateful I went back and was able to find it. We met up on Sunday for the return. I’m so glad I was able to find it so Reese can always remember her grandmother with such a irreplaceable memento.

Ring recovered at Pere Marquette beach, Muskegon, Michigan

  • from Manistee (Michigan, United States)
Contact:

I received a call from Sam E. regarding his wife, Ashley, who lost her ring while relaxing in about 3 feet of water with some friends. While kneeling in the water swishing her hands through the sand she felt her ring come off. Ashley and her friends immediately tried to sift through the sand, seashells and water to no avail. Ashley had the wherewithal to take a picture of a landmark as to where they were kneeling in the water. I went out that afternoon to look for the ring as it was a public beach an other detectors frequented that area. After a couple hours searching for the ring it appeared in my scoop with shells and sand.

Sam and Ashley live in Brighton, Michigan about 150 miles away so I had to mail the ring. Although I have never met them in person, I know they were very grateful to get her ring back on her finger.

Maybe we will meet someday.

Lost and found IPhone at Bon Echo Provincial park

  • from Cobourg (Ontario, Canada)

My adventure today was to meet up with Fatih at Bon Echo Provincial park. His IPhone fell out of his pocket while at a dock across Mazinaw lake. Fortunately for him, it was only about 10’ deep, laying flat on the bottom just before a huge drop off. While looking for his phone, also found another cell phone and four old pair of sunglasses. Absolutely beautiful day for a Scuba dive although a bit chilly with air temps of 12C and water temp of 65C. Another happy ending!

Man’s Tungsten Wedding Band Lost for 9 days in the Ocean – Found and Returned North Myrtle Beach SC

  • from North Myrtle Beach (South Carolina, United States)

I got a text message from Sara on Sept 14th, saying “Hello! My husband lost his wedding band Monday of last week in Cherry Grove beach around 50th Ave N. I made a post about it and a couple people told me to reach out to you.” Along with the text, Sara sent a couple of pictures of the ring. I responded asking if they were still in the area or could send a Google map showing the area. I also asked about the time, whether he was in the water, and if so, how deep. Sara sent a Google map with the spot pinned and said, “He was hit by a wave, and it just came off.” I told her I’d go later in the day, a couple of hours before low tide and see what I could do. In the meantime, I contacted a friend, Mike, who hunts that area quite a bit to ask if he had come across it. I was concerned that the ring had been out there for 9 days, and I know that area gets hunted quite a bit. Mike responded that he hadn’t seen the ring and had been at 50 North that morning. He also said he had met up with half a dozen guys detecting in that area over the last week. This was not what I wanted to hear!!!

About 3 p.m. I grabbed my gear and headed to the beach to look for Sara’s husband, Jacob’s, ring. I was optimistic and kept a positive attitude even with the information Mike had passed along. When you think about it, I’m trying to find a quarter size target on a vast area of beach. Most of the people I see metal detecting start at one point and do a snake like pattern down the beach. When I’m looking for someone’s treasure, I do a grid search to ensure I don’t miss an area. In this case, it paid off. After an hour plus of grid searching, I hit a solid 18-20 VDI (visual display indicator) on the Equinox 800. These numbers were exactly the numbers I was looking for for a man’s Tungsten Wedding Band.  After a couple of scoops of sand and spreading the sand out with my foot, I saw the ring sitting in the sand. I texted Sara and sent her a picture, but she didn’t respond until late evening. When she did respond she stated, “That does look like it might be it.” Now I’m second guessing myself, by the end of the night (2 a.m.), I concluded that we had the right ring. She and Jacob live locally so we set up a meeting spot to transfer her treasure. When we met, she did indeed confirm the ring was Jacobs. She told me she and Jacob were High School sweethearts and they picked out their matching wedding bands, which had a very sentimental importance to both of them. After a 9-day absence, the ring is back where it belongs!

Sara – Thank you for calling and trusting me to find your lost treasure. All the best to you and Jacob!!!

Lost family heirloom diamond ring in Atlantic Ocean, Ormond Beach, Florida….found with metal detector!

  • from Sanford (Florida, United States)
Contact:

Jade and her family’s Labor Day get away to the beach started out great! They arrived at the beach early and got their things all set out and could not wait to get into the warm ocean surf. Everyone was enjoying the water even though the waves were a bit rough…still it was the perfect day to enjoy the water, sand and sun! As they made their way deeper into the water Jade’s husband noticed that Jade was wearing the precious diamond heirloom ring that his grand mother had passed down to his own mother and then she had passed it on to Jade when they got married! With the hope of one day passing it on to their son, Everetts, when he gets married. Jade was sure the ring fit snug enough to not have to worry about loosing it and as she pulled on the ring to show that it was tight…off it came and dropped straight into the churning wave tossed waters!

Shocked beyond belief she let out a scream and immediately everyone came to help her locate the ring! Even when knowing exactly where it fell into the water it turned out to be so much more difficult to locate then they had ever imagined! Hours passed and they drove to a nearby store to purchase a metal detector and tried it but ended up shorting out the headphones as it was not a water proof metal detector!

Meanwhile, Jade’s son Everett found “theringfinders.com website” on his phone and decided to call me for help. As I listened to what had happened and the fact that they were very sure of the exact location where the ring had dropped, I offered to come out right away and do whatever I could to help them. Even though the surf was rough and the waves were fairly big I felt that her ring would be where it fell even through to the next low tide cycle. I asked Jade what the sand felt like under her feet while they were looking for her lost ring…soft or hard packed? She said soft in some places and hard in other places. And with that info I knew I had to search ASAP and I could not afford to wait till the next days low tide. It was around 5:30 pm Monday evening and low tide was coming up at around 11:30pm and I determined to search under an overcast moon and trust that by God’s grace I would be able to find Jade’s lost ring before it sunk too deep!

Under normal daylight hours I am able to use small wire survey flags to mark the sand and then by lining the two rows of flags up I am able to back my way into the surf and use the flags to help me go out and come back in a straight line. Once I get out as far as I can safely go I then take two steps over and walk out keeping myself lined up just about four feet off of where I went into the water. But in the middle of the night on a dark beach there is no way to visually see my flags! So as I was passing the time waiting for the next low tide I walked across the Ocean Shore Blvd. to the Dollar Store and began walking the isles to see what I could use to mark my path and progress. Thankfully they had some Halloween decorations out and I came across some 8 inch long glow sticks! I was able to use the two glow sticks to keep me lined up and began my night time search about 10:00 pm and little by little I backed my way out into the dark waters as far as I could safely go and the two glow sticks worked like a charm!

Earlier in the day as I was waiting for it to get dark I detected on the dry sand just to see if anyone had dropped anything and I used up a couple of hours of battery life!!! Not smart!! Reason being as I only have one battery and it lasts maybe 5 hours total! I water hunt using the Whites TDI Beachhunter and hip mount the box and it works great! Normally that is about all I can handle when working in and out of the surf in the hot sun and fighting against the current and waves!

After an hour and a half of covering the main target area I noticed my low battery light had come on and my detector started making the usual odd sound. I felt I was really close to the actual spot where she said the ring was dropped and now my battery was dying! I prayed and asked my heavenly Father to help my detector last just long enough to be able to find Jade’s lost heirloom ring! God then gave me the idea to go sideways out as far as I could where it was just over my waist and the sandy bottom had areas where it dropped away a foot or so. Fifteen minutes later I got a funny signal that sounded much like sunglasses sound only distorted like. I dug three scoops trying to retrieve the curious item. Actually it was the only signal I had gotten all the while and as I shook out the sand my head lamp lit up the scoop and there to my utter amazement was Jade’s precious lost ring! Words cannot express my joy and the emotion I felt and I let out a loud prayer of thanksgiving to my Father God!

I could not wait to get to the car and dry off and send Jade the good news! We talked and I assured them that we could meet anytime in the next day or two to pick up their precious ring! Early the next morning Jade arrived at our home and I was able to personally hand her the ring she thought was lost forever in the churning waters of the Atlantic Ocean! Google gave them a very, very slim chance of ever seeing their ring again but thankfully God came through and used little ol me to help them out of a desperate situation! And I am so thankful they gave me a call and trusted me to do what I could in their time of need!

Have you lost something and need help trying to find it? Call or text me ASAP…I am only a call away!
