Lost Car Keys Found Along US 421 - Lewisville, NC

  • from Winston-Salem (North Carolina, United States)

Tuesday evening, I was forwarded a message from a family who had lost their car keys. They had set the keys on top of the car while securing their young son in his seat, and didn’t realize they were missing until they arrived home, a county away. They had eaten dinner at a local restaurant earlier that evening, so the keys could have fallen anywhere along the way.

I reached out for more details. I didn’t hear back, but the area was a short drive and there was no traffic at that hour, so I went out to look. Unfortunately, I couldn’t locate the keys that night.

Meanwhile, the husband had returned to the restaurant around 9:00 PM. With a flashlight, he walked the roughly one mile to the highway and searched the on-ramp to US 421 before heading home.

This morning I received more details, and my commute to Wilkes county took me the same direction. Entering the highway, I carefully scanned the roadway and the right shoulder. I found the keys six miles from the restaurant, about 200 yards past the Williams road on-ramp on the right side of the road.

The husband came to my office to pick them up. He told me he had first thought I might be a scammer trying to get money out of them, but seeing my photo put that worry to rest. He also said the dealership had quoted a very high price for replacement keys, plus a tow fee and glad to get the keys back.

The family was very thankful, and I was glad to help, especially since I was already in the area.
