Shannon sent me a text asking if I was available to help recover her lost rings on Long Beach Island. After she explained what had happened, I told her I could head over right away. I asked her to leave a couple of chairs at the location to mark the spot, since it was a busy weekend and we didn’t want anyone else setting up there before I arrived.
Not long after, I met Shannon at the dune walkover. By that time, it was dark, so I flipped on my headlamp and we discussed the details of how the rings went missing.
She pointed me to the area where she believed they had fallen, and I began searching immediately. I scanned the entire spot carefully—nothing. I moved a bit closer to the ocean—still no luck.
At that point, I widened the search to the south. Just a couple of passes later, I got a strong signal… and there they were. Both of Shannon’s rings—safe and sound—resting together in my scoop.
Even in the dark, a successful recovery like this one is always worth the effort. Location marking and timing made all the difference.
