I got a call this morning from a lady who had been out enjoying some recreation time with her spouse in a public area when she lost her wedding ring. We made arrangements for me to come do a search in the late afternoon. I was nervous all day, hoping that nobody else would find it.
I arrived and she showed me the search area. She mentioned that she’s been thinking about getting a metal detector someday for the fun of it. So I asked her if she would like to try it. She said yes, I gave her brief instructions and off she went. She had told me it was a silver wedding ring with some engraving on the inside. So I told her we would probably be looking for high tones and high numbers.
Shortly after she gets started, we got a low number, which was double beeping. I told her it was probably a piece of foil or maybe somebody’s gold ring! I put a pin pointer to the ground and quickly got a silver colored ring. She screamed and said that’s my ring! She looked on the inside and saw the very sweet words that were inscribed there and put it on her finger and it fit.
I was kind of baffled why it gave such a low reading on my detector so I asked her if I could look inside of it and I saw PT 950 which stands for platinum!! It was then very obvious to me that this was one special kind of person who only cared about the ring’s meaning and the nice message inside of it. The fact that it was platinum and not silver was of no importance to her.
I was so glad that we had investigated the signal and not passed over it because it was such a low number, which wouldn’t have been silver.
