Winter isn’t exactly the ideal season to be digging around in the ground—but for Deborah, it was the perfect time to plan her next big project.

She had her sights set on extending her garden along one side of her home. There was just one problem: she had no idea exactly where her property line was. Deborah wanted to be absolutely certain she wasn’t crossing into her neighbor’s land, and she also needed to maintain the proper distance from her house to build the garden correctly.

Like many homeowners, she had tried everything she could think of to locate her property markers—but they were nowhere to be found. Over time, the earth had completely covered them, and what had once been clearly marked more than a decade ago had disappeared beneath layers of soil, leaves, and growth.

Deborah knew she could call in a surveyor again—but after paying for one years ago, she also knew that could cost up to $2,500 or more depending on the property. So she started searching for alternatives.
That’s when she found me.

While looking up property marker identification and surveyors online, Deborah came across my website, which led her to the THE RING FINDERS directory. After reading through numerous recovery stories and seeing photos of successful property stake finds, she felt confident enough to reach out. We scheduled a time for me to come out and take a look.

On a surprisingly mild January day, I arrived at Deborah’s property ready to get to work.

One of the most important tools in these searches isn’t just equipment—it’s information. Thankfully, Deborah had her original plat available. I always recommend that clients provide a plat or site map whenever possible, as it gives me a strong starting point to interpret the layout and narrow down the search areas.

From there, it didn’t take long.
Within a short period of time, I located all three property markers along the right side of her home:

The first was found at the front right corner of the property.

The second marker was located midway along the side yard.

The third was the most challenging—hidden in a patch of bamboo, slightly downhill in a wooded area.

Each marker had been completely concealed over time, but with the right approach and a bit of persistence, they were all successfully uncovered and clearly identified.

Deborah was thrilled.

Not only did she now have a clear understanding of her property boundaries, but she also avoided the significant cost of hiring another surveyor. With her markers located and properly marked, she could move forward confidently with her garden project.
