Lost Ring Found after house fire – Reno, Nevada

  • from South Lake Tahoe (California, United States)

Reno, Nevada — November 1st, 2026: Lost Gold Wedding Ring Found by Owner with the help of metal detector specialist Trevor Oxborrow.
Got a message on Facebook from Maribel on Friday, October 30th: “I might have an odd request, But it’s really important to me.”
Tragically, her home was destroyed by a devastating fire. She and her kids were left with only what they were wearing the day of the fire.
Her request: “I would love to recover my wedding ring.”
I explained that my metal detector would be next to worthless searching through the burnt house debris. But I was willing to help search.
With the final home debris removal date looming, she needed to find her lost wedding ring ASAP. We scheduled Sunday, November 1st, for the ring search.
The good news, Maribel knew exactly where the ring was located at the time of the fire — on a small ceramic plate to right of her bathroom sink.
For three hours we lifted, moved, and sifted through burnt wood, broken granite countertop, crushed cabinetry, tuffs of insulation, folded over siding, and melted personal effects.
We finally got down to a layer of ash, dirt, and occasional cosmetics that indicated we were searching in the right area.
At three and a half hours we were both tired and ready to give up. I scraped a top layer of ash from an area to the left of where the ring should have been—and had just started using my pinpointer on that pile of ash—when Maribel started searching the new cleared area. At that very moment, she moved two bottles of melted cosmetics and yelled “here it is!”
Wow! That was a tough search.
I was so relieved we found her ring and she was super happy!
My advice if you’re looking for your lost ring — “don’t give up hope, and perseverance will be rewarded.”
