Key Fob Lost In Saco, Maine Found Without A Metal Detector

On Saturday May 9th, I received the following text message

“Hey Dennis my name is Brad D********, I’ve misplaced my car key fob, and I believe It fell out of my pocket while working at my house outside. Wasn’t sure if this was possible a job for you”

I replied, “Hi Brad, So sorry to hear this. I am able to find key fobs.
1) how long ago did you lose them? I’m sure you have checked the house? I only ask because we have many clients that find them later, in a different coat or somewhere in the house.
2)Where are you located?
Also, could you call me. Much easier to communicate

A few minutes later, Brad did call me. Brad told me that the previous day, Friday, he had gotten out of work and then performed some yard work including in the flower garden, in Saco, Maine. While working in the backyard his phone fell out of his pocke but realized it and picked it right up. The key fob was in the same pocket, as the phone. After a long day at work and then yardwork, in both the front and backyard, Brad relaxed in the hammock, that is in the backyard. Brad then tells me that this morning, when he was getting ready for work, he couldn’t find his Subaru Key Fob. A quick check of the house came up empty. He then rememberd dropping his phone and ran outback to the location but the key fob wasn’t there either. Running late for work, Brad left for work, which is about a 40-45 minute drive to Windham, Maine. Once at work, Brad realized it was going to rain and he thoutht the key fob would be ruined, if it got wet. He then called the local Subaru dealership to see how much it would cost to replace his key fob with an authentic Subaru key fob, he was flabergasted whe he was told it could run somewhere between $500.00 and $1,000.00. WHAT? Are you serious. When Brad heard how expensive it could be, thats when he called me. He was hoping I could find the fob and find it before the rain got it. It was now about noon time and the rain was just starting, lightly. Brad lived only two miles from me and as I got my gear loaded up and during the drive over, I was running the different scenarios, through my mind. I thought that the most logical place to start searching was the backyard. That is where the phone fell out of his pocket and both the flower garden and hammock were also in the backyard. My mind kept telling me to check the grass under the hammock first. he he was laying down, there was a good chance the key fob fell out there.

Once I arrived, at Brad’s home, I opened the gate to the backyard and was taken aback because there was very litte grass in the backyard, including none, under the hammock. The flower garden was a large raised flower box. No way the key fob would get into the flower box that was up that high. At least in my mind it wouldn’t be in there. I could see from the gate that the fob was also not under the hammock. I did notice the hammock wasn’t open but was closed or folded over. I thought I would just open the hammock and check inside. As I started opening the hammock up, I saw the key fob, resting comfortably, in the hammock. Thankfully the fob was found quickly as it was now starting to rain slightly harder. I took a few photos and sent one of them to Brad, with the message, “In the hammock”. Brad then called and thanked me. He told me that the back sliding glass door wasn’t locked and I could put the fob, just inside the house. I then put the fob on the counter, just inside the door and left. This was a very different experience for me. From leaving my house, finding the fob, without a metal detector, to returning home, in just 20 minutes was unbelievable to me. I could have just left my metal detector at home because my Twin Optical Scanners 👀 were all I needed today.
Although I never met Brad, I’m sure he was smiling, knowing he just saved himself hundreds of dollars, literally. So, another Key Fob back in the pocket and a smile on my face for sure. I love my job. It’s the best job in the world 👀🗝️❤️🙏

Gold and Sterling Silver Bracelet Lost In York Harbor Beach Maine, Found With A Metal Detector

I received the following text message, on Tuesday April 14th,

“Hi Dennis. My name is Michele and I’ve recently lost a bracelet that I’m 99% certain I lost doing yard work two weeks ago. I lost another one a few years ago which probably is really lost. I live in York Harbor. I was wondering when and if you have any time to help me possibly locate it.
Thank you!”

I replied: “Hi Michele, So sorry to hear this. I should be able to search for it this week. I am actually on the road at the moment. May I call you this afternoon, when I arrive home?”Michele replied: “Absolutely! Call me on this number anytime. I’m gonna be working in the yard again and my reception isn’t very good but if I see you called, I’ll call you back.”

I replied: “Perfect. Whatever you do in the yard, do not dispose of anything.” Michele replied: “Got it!”
I always tell my clients that if they lose something, while doing yard work, they should not mow the lawn, bag up and throw away grass clippings, leaves, etc.. Your item just may be in the bag and it will be gone forever, once it is picked up and taken away. We can always search the grass, leaves, etc., before they end up at the dump.

Once I arrived home, I called Michele. Michele told me that two weeks earlier, she had been cleaning up her property, in York Harbor, Maine. Michele was trimming back some Hydrangea’s that run along multiple stone walls, on her property. She was then burning the clippings, in a burn pit, near their compost. She had also walked the property picking up small branches to burn and feeding the ducks, at her small pond. Later that evening, Michele noticed her Sterling Silver Bracelet, with Gold accent trimming was not on her wrist. The bracelet was a very sentimental bracelet, as she bought the bracelet and another exact bracelet, for her daughter. They always wore them and Michele desperately would like to find it. She has been walking the property for two weeks and had not been able to locate it. When I asked her if she had turned any soil up or put new soil or bark mulch down, she replied that she had not done that but it was possible the bracelet was kicked or stepped on and ended up below the bark mulch, under leaves or in the hydrangea plants. Michele and I agreed to meet at 8:00am, Thursday April 16th to search. Michele then sent me a short video of the areas she thought the bracelet could have been lost. Once I saw the video I knew it wouldn’t be long to search the area. The entire area had short grass and was very well manicured, a very big plus, for searching.

Once I arrived at her York, Maine property, Michele immediately met me and pointed out the areas, that needed to be searched. Michele also showed me a bracelet that was very, very close as the one lost. I put it on the grass and set my detector up with it. The bracelet rang out very loudly, and was definitely Sterling Silver, for the most part. The gold trim was being masked but the much more conductive sterling silver. The grass was even shorter and more well groomed, than the video had shown me. This would not take long to search because I knew a bracelet that size would not be hidden in the grass, just wasn’t tall enough, after all the snow had packed it down, all winter. We started the search of the mulch, along the stone wall that was closest to us. The bark mulch was also matted down from a long hard winter. The hydrangea’s had some leaves at the roots and I searched those with my pinpointer. One rock wall down and no bracelet. We then went to the next closest rock wall. This one ran up to the burn pit and compost area and also mad a few hydrangea’s. Same result along this wall and plants, the bracelet was still missing. I then moved a large wreath so I could search the burn pit, before moving to the compost. Once the wreath was out of the way, I swung the detectors coil over the burn pit and almost immediately I received a very loud target. It was reading 84, on my TDI (Target ID). This is a highly conductive metal and the same reading that Michele’s other bracelet rang up as. I told Michele that this was a very good target but I couldn’t see anything, in the burn pit. Michele then yells out, “THERE IT IS, I SEE IT.” I then stepped up, bent over and I saw the outline of a very dirty, bracelet that had soot all over it. Michele’s bracelet has been found but it had been burnt, while Michele was burning twigs and stuff, two weeks earlier. AMAZING!!! I pick the bracelet up and passed it to a very happy Michele, wiping away happy tears. The bracelet looked sooty and dirty but didn’t look disfigured. Michele and I agreed that a jeweler would be able to clean this up pretty good and repair any damage that we couldn’t see. Extremely fortunate the bracelet wasn’t severely damaged. Michele said she would most likely take it to Springer’s Jewelers , in Portsmouth, New Hampshire and see what they could do, to get the bracelet looking new again. Michele was still wiping away tears and couldn’t wait to tell her daughter that the bracelet had been found.

So, another bracelet, back on the wrist (well, it will be shortly) and more smiles, happy tears and hugs. We have the best job, in the world. I love my job.❤️🙏

Gold Wedding Ring Lost In The Portland, Maine Snow, Found With A Metal Detector

On Monday, March 9th, I received the following voicemail

“Hey, my name is Patrick. I got your telephone number off of your Facebook page for finding rings. I was hoping you’d be able to find mine. I mean, Portland. If you give me a call. Um, I’d appreciate it. My cell phone number is 860-***-****. Thank you
I called Patrick back immediately after listening to his voicemail, at 2:15pm. I asked Patrick what had happened and he relayed the story that he was building a new porch and front stairs , in Portland Maine. About 45 minutes earlier he noticed his wedding ring, of almost 10 years, was no longer on his finger. He stopped what he was doing and searched the sidewalk, in front of the area he had been working. Patrick had been cutting wood, , building the porch/stairs and walking back and forth to his work van, parked on the street. The ring was not seen and that was when Patrick called me. Patrick had to leave and be in Waterboro, for 3:30pm, to pick his children up, when they got off the bus. It was now just after 2:30pm and I told Patrick I would load my metal detector up and head right right in. My concern, as well as Patricks was that anyone walking past the house, would be able to see the ring and just pick it up. Time is of the essence, when jewelry is lost in public spaces.
As Cheryl and I were driving in, Patrick texted me and told me , “Ive got someone to get the kids off the bus so I’ll be here when you get here. Thank you!” Perfect!!! Cheryl and I arrived a short time later and Patrick showed me the areas of a few snowbanks, some leaves and under the new set of stairs. I asked Patrick a bunch of questions, as I always do. Patrick wasn’t 100% sure he had the ring on, when he left the house, but was pretty sure. He thought the ring may be under the porch, in all the leaves. So, now I just need to grid search the area, snow banks, along the house and under the porch. I grabbed my Manticore and started at the snow bank, to the left of the porch and on the other side of the sidewalk. Nothing found, in the snow. I then moved across the sidewalk and started searching the leaves, along the house. Still no wedding ring but lots of the usual trash. I then was searching underneath the porch but wasn’t getting any targets. Patrick was removing the remaining leaves from underneath the porch, with a rake. As Patrick was still removing leaves the leaves, I went to the small area of snow, just to the right of the porch. Still no ring. I turned towards the street and started searching the snow bank, on the other side and along the sidewalk. As I started searching I received a nice sounding target , ringing up between 32-34, on the VDI screen. As I looked closer, I could see the partial shape of a ring, in the snow, but hidden by a leaf. I looked at Patrick and told him that I had found his ring. He looked stunned and walked over to me. I then reached down, moved the leaf, picked the ring up and asked Patrick if that was his ring. Patrick verified it was his ring and a big smile broke out across our faces.
Patrick then told Cheryl and I he’s had the ring for almost 10 years. He will be celebrating his 10th anniversary on March 21st. WOW!!! He lost his wedding ring just 12 days before his 10th Anniversary. Thankfully we were able to find this extremely sentimental wedding ring and fast. Patrick and his wife will now be able to celebrate a milestone anniversary without any stress of trying to find his ring. This is a perfect example of why I love doing this. This ring meant everything to Patrick and I just get the best feeling, to be able to find these special pieces of jewelry. There is no better feeling, in the world, than to see the joy, happiness and smiles on people’s faces, when they get their ring back.
Another smile on the pile and another ring back on the finger. I love my job, it the best job in the world 😀❤️🙏

Platinum And Diamond Anniversary Ring Lost In The Snow At Ice Fishing Derby, In Monmouth, Maine Found With A Metal Detector

I received the following voicemail, late Saturday afternoon, February 21, 2026
“Hi, this is Justin L******. I’m calling uh, because I live in North Yarmouth, Maine , and uh, earlier this morning, it seems like my wife lost her ring. We have an idea of where it could be as a general area, but wasn’t sure if uh, you could provide any services to help us locate it. Now, if you could please give me a call back. My number is 207-***_****. Thank you. Bye.”
I immediately called Justin back and after asking him what happened, Justin gave me all the details. Justin, his wife Jackie and their children, had traveled to Cochnewagon Lake, in Monmouth, Maine . The family was attending the “Jacks Traps Youth Ice Fishing Derby”, which is an annual event, attended by literally hundreds and hundreds of people. Anyways, just before arriving to the lake, Jackie took her 10 year Anniversary Ring off and placed it, on a hat, that was in her lap. The very sentimental ring was a gift from Justin and is a Platinum and Diamond Ring. Jackie took the ring off to apply sunblock on her and her children’s faces. They would be out, on the lake all day, with no shelter, from the sun and as I always say, safety first. Once she finished applying the sunblock and they arrived, she exited the vehicle, helped unload all the equipment and then the family went a couple hundred yards, out onto the lake, where the children, enjoyed the fishing derby, around the drilled fishing holes. Towards the end of the day, the family went over to the Awards Ceremony and watched that for a while. While at the awards ceremony, Jackie took her gloves off and her stomach knotted up, her heart skipped a beat, as soon as she noticed her beloved anniversary ring was no longer on her finger. Jackie and Justin immediately going through the days events and thought the ring must have fallen into the parking lot, when she got out of the vehicle or possibly, still in the vehicle. Since they were way out on the lake, they decided to start searching the immediate area of where they were standing. Unfortunately, there was too much snow and to many people, in the area. If the ring was there, it was beneath the packed down snow. They then went back to the area, where the family had been ice fishing. Again, they did not find the ring, in all that snow. They also checked the parking lot and did not see the ring but the parking lot was full of vehicles and people. They went home with a very distraught Jackie thinking of nothing but her missing anniversary ring. Once home, Justin remembered seeing an article on The Ring Finders of Maine, from a few years earlier. Once he searched Ring Finder Maine, he saw many of my posts and that was when he contacted me.
I told Justin that being so late in the afternoon, I could meet him first thing in the morning, at 7:00am, right around sunrise. I would also see if Gary Hill was available to assist, in such a large, potentially, search area. I would also bring a backup metal detector, for him to use, if he would like. Three of us searching, what could be an area of a couple of football fields, large, would definitely be better than just me. Time is of the essence, in all lost ring recoveries. The ring was lost in a public area and someone may have seen it in the parking lot or out on the ice already and picked it up. The other big concern was the upcoming blizzard, in just 36 hours, on Monday morning. If we didn’t find it soon, it may be gone forever or damaged beyond repair, by a snowplow, in the parking lot. Justin signed right up for using my backup metal detector, without hesitation. Justin was closer to Monmouth Maine and he was actually heading back up there to search the parking lot, once everyone had dispersed. He would let me know if he found it. An hour or two later and now dark, Justin called me with the news of the ring still lost. He and Jackie told me the parking lot was very slushy and snow was packed, from everyone driving and walking on it, during the day. As the sun was now gone, they were worried the ring would freeze , in the slush and asked if the metal detectors would be able to find the ring, if it was frozen in the slush or snow. I told them yes, absolutely. I also told them I would bring test/set up rings, including a platinum ring to set up, calibrate the detectors and show Justin what he would be listening for, as he swung a metal detector.
So the next morning, Sunday February 22nd, Gary and I left our homes, at 5:35am, for the approximately hour and twenty minute drive to Monmouth, Maine. Once we arrived, I sent Justin a text , letting him know we were there and he replied he was only 5-10 out, from arriving. Gary and I looked out at the lake and were praying we didn’t have to go out there and search, such a very large area. As we were getting our equipment out of the car, Justin pulled in. After a few pleasantries, Justin pointed out the area they had parked, yesterday and the route Jackie had walked down to the lake. Once we calibrated the machines and Justin was shown how to use the detector, we headed towards the area where we were all hoping the ring would be.
Since our metal detectors will interfere with with other, if they are to close to each other, Gary started going up along the snowbank, towards the area, where they had parked. I asked Justin to search the area, between the two parking lots, but closer to the second lot, so as we wouldn’t interfere with each other . I would follow Gary, in the area he had skipped over. Nothing was found along the snow bank other than a dime and a few targets, in the ground. Justin had come over to see what the targets looked like as I explained why some of the targets could not be a platinum ring. Gary and I would now search the area, closest to the lot Jackie had been in. I would start on the right side, along the snow bank, Gary would be about 8-10 feet behind me, and a few steps to my left. We call this the snowplow grid search. It’s like the snowplows, on the Maine Turnpike. One plow will be in the far right lane, one in the center lane and one in the passing lane, each plow covering ground, the other plows don’t get. After a few steps, Justin had a target and I went over to see what it was. Unfortunately, it wasn’t Jackie’s ring. I i returned to where I had left off and as I arrived, Gary said to me, “Hey, I’ve got a really good target, 14 on the VDI. It’s down in the ice and snow. I grabbed my detector and checked the signal and it sounded really great, but was it the ring? Gary got his pinpointer out, located the target and very carefully, chiseled the ice and snow away. Gary really didn’t want to damage the target. As he was removing the ice and snow, we caught a small glimpse of a silver colored ring, with diamonds. Gary has found Jackie’s anniversary ring, YES!!! I looked over at Justin and shouted out, “We got it, Gary found the ring”. Justin came running over and Gary pointed to the ring still buried in the ice and snow and gave Justin the honor of removing the ring. Once Justin removed the ring and took a photo, he sent a text to Jackie. Justin then called Jackie, with the good news Jackie was pleased, over the moon happy and I can’t be certain but I thought her voice cracked a time or two. Gary and I also noticed a few happy tears coming down Justin’s face. He was extremely happy and he was wearing his emotions, on his sleeve. When I congratulated Justin and stuck my hand out, for a handshake. Justin wouldn’t have it and gave me a big hug with a smile, ear to ear
A beautiful moment for Jackie and Justin. Gary and I do this, for exactly these reasons. There is no better feeling in the world than to be able to help return such sentimental items. As we always say, every ring has a story and now Jackie’s anniversary ring has a new chapter. Gary and I were on cloud nine, as we said goodbye to Justin. Another ring back on the finger. We have the best job in the world. We love our job!!!
Once home, I received the following message from Justin
“Thank you so much Dennis, I am eternally grateful for your help finding my wife’s ring. I’m still taken aback about your willingness to come and help at a moments notice. In today’s world, it makes you remember that there are still so many good people out there, and you stand out.”

Platinum Class Ring Lost In Snow, Found With A Metal Detector In South Portland, Maine

On Tuesday evening I received a phone call, from Hailey and I could hear the anguish, in her voice. Approximately an hour earlier, at 9:00pm, Hailey lost her 2023 Oak Hill High School class ring. Hailey is a second year student at Southern Maine Community College (SMCC), in South Portland, Maine and was sledding, on a very small hill, on campus. Hailey and her friends didn’t have anything to slide with, so they improvised some pizza boxes, into sleds. With a snowy winter storm still raging on, Hailey was enjoying the fun of sliding down the hill, with her friends. On her third or fourth trip down the hill, Hailey noticed her 2023 Platinum class ring was no longer on her finger. Hailey and her friends search the snowy hillside for an hour, without finding the ring. At this point, one of her friends suggested Hailey call The Ring Finders of Maine. I told Hailey that I could absolutely search for her ring, but not until the next morning. Because the snow storm was still fairly strong and raging on, I wasn’t going to drive out there, until the storm stopped.

The next morning I arrived at SMCC and called Hailey. Hailey told me she would be right down. I saw a father and his two young children, sledding on the hill and asked them if they had found a ring. They had not. So while waiting for Hailey, I gave the children a demonstration, on how a metal detector works. They had shown an interest, when they saw my metal detector and since I like to set up and calibrate my detector, before I search, it was a win, win. The children loved how my detector, could find metal, under the snow. As I was finishing the demonstration, Hailey arrived, from her dorm room. Hailey then showed me the area they had been sledding and it was a very small area. I was able to search the area in just 10 minutes or so. Since I had searched just half of the hill area, she had been sledding down, I told Hailey, I would expand the search area, to the other half of the hill, on the chance it flew off her finger to that area. I would at the same time, research the area, I had just covered, At the bottom of the hill, there is a parking lot and some snow had been plowed , onto the base of the hill. I asked Hailey if the snowbanks, at the bottom of the hill, had been there, the previous evening. She replied they had not. I was concerned that her class ring may have been plowed into the now fairly frozen snowbank. Hailey had to go back to her dorm room for a few minutes and as she left, I started my grid search, at the top of hill and worked my way down, towards the snowbank and parking lot. I was unable to locate the ring, on the hill. As I stood at the base of the hill, looking at the snowbank, I knew there was no way I would find the ring, deep inside the frozen snowbank. From the parking lot, I  searched the hard packed snow, leading up to the snowbank. The ring was not in the parking lot. I decided to search the snowbank as best as I could, from the parking lot side first. Almost immediately, I received a very faint low tone, reading 05, on my VDI screen and approximately 6-7 inches in the snow. The reading told me that it was definitely a low conducting, non ferrous metal, the same as Platinum. Unfortunately there are many non ferrous trash signals that could ring up in that range, including different foils. It wasn’t a great sounding target but I needed to perform due diligence and check the target out. I removed some snow and ice and then I saw a reddish or purplish colored stone, in a silver colored setting. The ring has been found. I took a few photos, of the ring, as I first saw it. I then called Hailey and as the phone was ringing, Hailey appears at the top of the hill. I asked if she could come down, to the bottom of the hill, so I could ask  her some more questions. When she made it to the bottom, I told her to look in the dug hole, in the snow and asked her “ Does that look familiar?” As Hailey looked into the hole and saw her class ring she says, “Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh. Thank you” and picks the ring up, placing it back on her finger. Hailey kept thanking me and seeing just how much this ring means to her put a big smile on my face. I then told Hailey that she shouldn’t be wearing her rings, while sledding. Hailey told me she would never wear them again, while sledding. A lesson learned for a young college student, smiles all around and another ring back on the finger. I have the best job, in the world.😀❤️🙏

Newlywed’s Gold Wedding Ring Lost In The Portland Maine Hay, Found Visually, While Searching With A Metal Detector

Sunday morning, November 23rd, I received a phone call, from Chase. Chase told me that 2 days previously, on Friday, he noticed his wedding ring was missing. I asked him where he lost it and Chase said it could possibly be in two different places. The most likely area was at a new home construction, in Portland, Maine or inside a buying being totally rehabbed, also in Portland. The new home construction was where Chase thought his wedding ring was lost. He had been throwing down hay, on the new lawn and at one point, he actually felt his wedding ring slipping off and he caught it, before the ring actually left his finger. When he finished with the lawn, he drove over to the building being rehabbed and worked there for the next two hours, before he noticed his wedding ring was no longer on his finger. Chase searched the building he was currently working in but could not find the ring. He had been tearing down the walls, to the studs and throwing the debris, into a dumpster. Chase was really hoping the ring wasn’t in the dumpster, full of demo. He remembered the ring almost coming off, at the new construction and headed back there, visually searching the hay, he had thrown down. Unfortunately this search and a subsequent search, the next day resulted in disappointment. The wedding ring was not found. I told Chase I could absolutely search the hay, at the new construction site but the indoor rehab site would have to be a visual search only. There is just to much metal, inside buildings and our metal detectors, do not work well, at all. As I was the only one home watching our 8 year old Granddaughter, I told Chase I would be right out there, once my daughter got off work or my wife Cheryl returned home, from her 5 mile walk. About an hour later, Cheryl returned home and I headed to Portland.

When I arrived at the new construction, in Portland, Chase was already there, waiting inside his truck, for me. After a greeting, Chase told me the ring was new, as he had just gotten married, in October. I told him that I have had many newlywed recoveries, as the rings just don’t always fit right and the newlyweds just aren’t use to having a ring on. I was praying to myself to find this wedding ring, for Chase and his bride. We then got right down to business. Chase reexplained everything and walked me around the new construction and showed me where he had been putting the hay down, which ended up around the entire house. The area wasn’t large at all and I thought to myself that I should be able to cover the entire area, in just 30 minutes or so. I started the search, on the left front corner of the building , as you faced it and would work my way clockwise, around the building. As I started searching, I was finding quite of few pieces of construction metal, go figure. Small pieces of aluminum, copper, brass, etc.. Chase continued his visual search, for his ring, just a few feet ahead of me, occasionally coming back to see what had set my detector off. Unfortunately, I had finished the left side of the house and the backyard, with no ring being found. As I was heading down the right side of the house, I had completed approximately 2/3 of the searchable area and was starting to get nervous, as I was running out of real estate to search. As I was making my way down the right side of the house, with Chase just 10 feet or so ahead of me, I heard Chase say something to me and I looked in his direction. He was hold something up and showing me, as I asked, “Is that the ring, did you find it?’ As Chase nodded his head up and down, he said “Yes, I found it”. I walked right over to him and gave him a high 5 and congratulated him. He looked at me and said “Do you know how many times I have walked and looked at the hay, in this area, the last few days. It just blends in with the hay.” Chase and I both had big smiles and I could see the relief, on his face. He was one happy newlywed as I am sure his wife, Annie was, as he sent her a photo of the ring. I always say that once I am on scene it becomes a team effort. Clients will continue to search visually and if the area is large enough, I will bring an extra metal detector, with me, that my client may use. It doesn’t matter who finds the ring. The goal is to put the ring back on the finger. Mission accomplished. After all, Teamwork is Dreamwork.
I also told Chase and Annie that in his line of work, construction, Chase should wear his silicone ring. Working with your hands all day is just an invitation to lose the ring. It is also very possible to severely damage the ring, while building homes. Chase already is wearing his silicone ring and actually had it on, when I arrived. Better safe than sorry. I personally remove my wedding ring, whenever I go metal detecting, doing yard work or go to the beach. Again, better safe than sorry. It’s so much easier to replace an inexpensive ring, than a very sentimental ring.
So, another ring back on the finger and another smile on the face. I’ll say it again, “I have the best job in the world and there is no better feeling than to help someone get their very sentimental ring back.”

Property Marker Pin Lost In Kennebunk Maine, Found With A Metal Detector

I received a call, from Mona, concerning a property marker/pin. She and her husband John had seen the marker/pin, years ago, when they had bought the property, in the Town of Kennebunk, Maine and only a mile or so from Kennebunkport Maine . Now however, they were unable to find the property pin, but had found the other 3 corner pins. The only missing pin was the southeast pin, that was in the front of the property, along the area of the road. Mona and John also had the distances, between the pins. I told Mona that with that much information, the property pin should be found, if it was still there. Mona had told me that the area that the pin should be in had recently had some fill brought in, to make a few parking spots, on the neighbors property. Mona was concerned the her property pin had been buried by the excess fill. We made plans to search for the pin, today, Wednesday November 12th.
I arrived a few minutes early and was getting all my equipment out of my vehicle, that included metal detectors, pinpointer, shovel, spade and a 300’ measuring tape. While getting my equipment organized, Mona came out and introduced herself. She then showed me the area of the missing pin and pointed out a stick that she and John had stuck in the ground, where they thought the pin should be, within a few feet. I started up my metal detector and immediately started searching. I received a signal within a few seconds. It was a ferrous target, which is what I was looking for. As I dug the hole, no pin was found, only an old square nail. Scanning the area provided more nails and even a 1955 Dog Tax pendant, but no property pin was found . I told Mona we should measure from the Southwest pin, that was also along the road, to the area of the missing pin, in the Southeast area , of the property. The measurement was 180.37’. Once we measured it out, the mark was about 4-5 feet short of where Mona and John thought it would be. Searching the new spot produced nothing but more nails. We then decided to measure from the northeast corner, in the back of the property, to the southeast corner. This measurement is 223.’. This measurement was 7’ short of where the pin was thought to be. How is this possible? Unfortunately, property lines, for the most part, don’t run in straight lines. There are usually angles and degrees involved. Even a measurement of 223’ at a 5 degree angle could alter the measurement by several feet, from where you think the pin should be. I started searching the new area and within a couple of minutes, I received a nice loud ferrous target and my VDI was telling me the target was 0-2 inches, under the surface of the ground. The ground was absolutely covered with leaves and I started removing the leaves and wiping the topsoil away when I saw the yellow cap, of the property pin. I then said “There it is” and Mona said something to the effect of “Wow, my friend didn’t think we would find it”. Mona was just so happy the property pin hadn’t be buried, by the work done on the parking spaces and told me that I had saved her from a lot of anxiety, for finding the pin. Mona then went up to the house and got some orange tape and tied it around the now found pin, so they will be able to see the pin much more easily. So now Mona and John can relax, knowing where all the corner pins are located. There is no better feeling than to be able to find the item that my clients are looking for. Smiles all around and I have the best job, in the world. 😀❤️🙏
As a side note, I am not a licensed surveyor. I am just a metal detectorist trying to help others out. I informed Mona and John that I may find their property pin but I cannot guarantee that the pin is in the correct location. I have no way of knowing if the pin has actually been moved, in the past, or not. Only a licensed surveyor can guarantee the pins are correct.

My son in law lost his wedding band at his home in Auburn, Maine. He was on the roof cleaning gutters and thinks the ring came off when he took his gloves off. Can you give me an idea what your pricing is and if you travel to that area or know someone who does?

We did borrow a metal detector and have checked the backyard and the gutters already with no luck. But also we have no idea what we’re doing!

A friend of Kerry’s, Michelle (a follower of our Facebook Page) told her about The Ring Finders of Maine and our success, at finding lost rings. Michelle suggested to Kerry that she should contact me and Kerry did just that. I was actually on the road, when the message came in and I messaged her back, asking Kerry if she could call me and I would be able to talk to her, with my hands free technology. While talking to Kerry, I told her this was something I could definitely do and asked if she could forward Jeremy’s contact information. Kerry did forward the information and the next day, I called Jeremy.
When I called Jeremy. he explained that he had been up on the roof, in the back of the house, approximately a week earlier, removing leaves, from the gutter. He was wearing gloves and was removing the leaves and debris, from the gutters with both a leaf blower and his hands. As Jeremy working, up on the roof, his family was in the backyard, helping pick up the leaves and debris, that came off the roof. While everyone was out back working, they all heard a thud, clunk or clank. Something came off the roof and had made a noise, when the object hit something, like the back deck, bulkhead or even the side of the house. No one saw what it was, that came off the roof, but they all heard it. No one thought to much of it, until later in the day, when Jeremy realized his wedding ring was not on his finger. They all went to the backyard, remembering the clunk, they had heard. After all, Jeremy had taken his gloves off, multiple times, while up on the roof and it made perfect sense that when the gloves came off, so didn’t the wedding ring. As everyone was searching for the ring, they realized this wouldn’t be as easy as they thought. The ring could not be found, in the small area, of the backyard. Could the ring have ended up under the porch, where there was a bunch of firewood? There was also some firewood stacked against the house and covered by a tarp. Could the ring have ended up behind this pile of wood. Jeremy told me he was never on the roof, in the front of the house and that area, wouldn’t need to be searched. I told Jeremy that I could be at his home, in Auburn , the next morning and search for the ring.
I arrived at Jeremy’s home at 8:15am and Jeremy was also arriving back to his home, after dropping the kids off at school. Jeremy immediately took me out to the back yard and showed me the area. I looked at the backyard and told Jeremy that I would be able to cover the entire area, in less than an hour. If I wasn’t able to locate the ring, in the backyard, I would then start searching the woodpiles and under the porch. Jeremy and family members had also continued searching the backyard , for the last week or so. Still no ring. I asked Jeremy what metal the ring was made of and he thought it was Tungsten, but wasn’t truly positive. No problem, I would investigate all the non ferrous targets. I told Jeremy that I would grid search the backyard, starting as far back, in the yard as I could go and search up to the house and porch area, then to as far back as I could go. I would repeat this sequence until I found the ring or I finished the back yard. Jeremy, who works from home thanked me for coming out to help but he needed to get inside, for a meeting. As I grid searched the backyard, I was finding the usual backyard targets, like coins, pull tabs and various nails and screws. Almost all, were under the ground. After a half hour or so, I had searched the entire backyard and the wedding ring, was not found. Since I finished the backyard, on the right rear corner (as you faced the house, from the street), I decided to continue to search the side lawn, of that area. Jeremy came out and I told him that I just wanted to search the sides of the house, to eliminate all the grassy areas. If I didn’t find the ring, on either side of the house, I would then search, under the rear deck and wood piles. I finished the right side of the house and still no ring. I then went to the left side of the house and started searching that small area. Again, just the usual yard targets, but no ring. As I was approaching the driveway, and end of the left side of the house, I received a very loud repeating signal, reading 28 on the VDI Screen and it was showing the target was from 0 to 2 inches. I immediately looked down into the grass, but didn’t see the target. I bent over with my pinpointer and moved some grass around, until the pinpointer went off and then I could see the outline of a ring, Jeremy’s wedding ring. I took a few photos and set Jeremy a text, asking him if he could come out, for a minute. Once arrived, I asked him a few questions, to distract him and then asked him to come over near me. I then asked him to look in this area and as he was looking, I said, “Do you see your ring, because I found it.” He replied “really?’ and looked at me stunned. I told him to look straight down and it took a few seconds, but he saw the ring. Jeremy reached down and picked up his ring, saying “oh, there it is, Thank you so much.” Jeremy was now smiling wear to ear and I could see the change, in his demeanor. Jeremy looked around the area and asked me, “how did it get over here.” My reply was “I have no idea”. Jeremy the said that no one even looked in this area, because it wasn’t near the backyard area, where they thought the ring would be. After all, they had heard a clunk, out back and assumed it was the ring. I told him that the wedding ring could have gotten to this area, any number of ways. He had been taking is gloves on and off and possibly the wedding ring was in the glove, as he was walking, back to the driveway and door to the house area. The ring could have fallen out of the glove, at that point. If someone loses a ring but does not see or feel the ring come off, it could be anywhere. As you have all heard before, if we don’t find the ring, in the area it was thought to be in, we expand the search area. That is what I did today. Don’t give up and keep expanding the area.
Jeremy still couldn’t believe I found the wedding ring, up in that area but was very thankful and complimentary, telling me that I I had come highly recommended and that “Now I know why.” It’s always great to receive compliments and it is also great to see smiles on my clients faces, once again. What turned out to be a stressful week, for Jeremy, was now over. As I was leaving, I saw Jeremy looking at the ring, back to where I found it and just kind of shook his head , back and forth. Of course, Jeremy’s smile was still there and so was mine. I love doing this for others and I have the best job, in the world.😀❤️🙏

Gold Wedding Ring Lost In The Water, Saco River, Brownfield, Maine, Found With A Metal Detector

I received a Voicemail on Saturday Evening, August 23,

“ Hi, My name is Brendan. I am currently staying on the Saco River, in Brownfield, ME. We lost a wedding ring, in the river today, on or off the beach somewhere. We have done a lot of looking for it, but we weren’t able to find it. I was just inquiring about your availability, rates, all that jazz. We do have to be out of the Airbnb tomorrow, by 11. So it is somewhat of a time thing and I don’t know if you would come and metal detect, at a different time and mail it. Regardless, Please give me a call back. You can reach me at 617-***-****. Again, this is Brendan. Thank you, Take care.”
As soon as I saw his voicemail, I called him back, ,approximately a half hour, after his voicemail was left.. Brendan told me that he and a group of 8 or nine friends had rented a house, on the Saco River, in Brownfield Me. One of the guys, in the group was getting married soon and this was the bachelor weekend. Earlier in the day, a member of the group had lost his wedding ring, while they were all swimming, in the river. They had a very good idea of where it was.and though it would only be in knee to waist deep. But, the sandy area they were swimming, quickly drops off, to much deeper water. I told Brendan that I could certainly search,, up to 5 feet deep but anything deeper than that, I would’t be able to get to. I also told him that I could search, the next day but I was already booked, in Greenwood, Maine and couldn’t guarantee I could get to Brownfield, by 11:00am. If I did arrive, in Brownfield and the group had already checked out, I would need permission, from the owner, of the Maine Airbnb property. I do not go on other peoples property, without permission. We left it at that someone in the group would try contacting the owner, securing permission, for me to access their property and search for the lost wedding ring.
The next morning, Gary and I left at 6:00am, for the nearly 2 hour drive, to Greenwood Maine.and search for a lost gold signet ring. As we were arriving at the camp, in Greenwood, I received a text message, from Brendan

“We are still waiting to hear back from the air bnb host. So unlikely that today will work. If anything changes or they allow access later in the week I’ll be sure to check with your availability.” I replied “Ok, Thanks”

As luck would have it, Gary was able to locate the gold signet ring, in just about 10 minutes. We left Greenwood around 9:00am. As we were driving back home, I received another text, from Brendan, at approximately 9:45am.

“Heads up Dennis. I gave your number to the guy whose ring was lost. Turns out our checkout is 2:00pm he wants to give you a call to check availability”

Before I could reply, I received a call from Jonathon. Jonathon was the one, that had lost his wedding ring, in the river. Jonathon told me if I could make it to Brownfield, by 2:00pm, he would stay behind, and guide me to the location, where the ring was lost. It wasn’t an easy place to find, as it involved driving to a spot, up the road, then walk down a path, in the woods, for approximately a 1/3 to a 1/2 mile, to the sandy beach area, along the river. It was now approaching 10:00am and I needed to see exactly how to get to Brownfield, from where Gary and I were, in the Gray, Maine area. I told Jonathon I would get right back to him and pulled over, on the side road, to look at the map. Once I got the information I was looking for, I called Jonathon back. I told him I could be there in 45 minutes to an hour. Gary and I then took a hard right and we were heading to Brownfield.

Once we arrived, we were met by Jonathon and his friend, Cory. They again mentioned the walk, on the path, through the woods and he and his friend offered to carry anything we needed. I told him we would be fine and then we drove back up the road and stopped at the trailhead. The walk through the woods was much easier than I thought. The path was actually quite large, from all the ATV traffic. After a 10-15 minute walk, down the wooded path, we arrived at the sandy beach area, on the Saco River. Jonathan then showed Gary and I the area that he thought the ring was lost in. The area was very sandy and should not be a problem. I told Gary that I would start out in the water, as far out as I could safely go. I would the grid search, parallel to the shore and work my way, towards shore. Gary would start, at the shore and work his way, towards me and the deeper water. I went out to where the sand ended and the drop off to deeper water started. Hopefully the ring didn’t get thrown out in the deep water. With Gary near the shore, I worked my way west, on my first grid pass. Absolutely no targets at all, just really soft sand. Gary also had no targets, as this area was extremely clean of trash. As I turned and headed east, still no targets. Then, approximately halfway into this grid pass, I received a very loud low tone. I immediately knew this was Jonathan’s wedding ring. Having used an Minelab Excalibur II, since 2006, you just know when you hear gold. I looked up onto the shore, where Jonathon and Cory were talking and Gary was still searching. I hesitated for a moment and wanted to have someone take a video of the recovery but decided not to. I just told everyone that I was pretty sure I had located the ring and that got their attention. I took one scoop of sand and shook it in the water, until the sand was gone. As I was shaking the scoop, we could all hear something clanging around, in the scoop. I was hoping it wasn’t a rock. I brought the scoop up and looked inside. There it was a gold wedding ring. I made a face of disappointment, as I reached into the scoop, so when I pulled the ring out, everyone would be surprised. I grabbed the ring and quickly pulled it out, held it high, for all to see and said, “Congratulations, I got it”. Jonathan and his friend just couldn’t believe it, giving each other high fives and saying something to the effect of this was epic and unbelievable. As I came to shore, I asked Jonathan how long he has been married and he replied, 2 years. I then told him, “Now you can stay married” and handed him his ring back. We were all laughing, smiling, making jokes and it just felt great to see the weight of a lost wedding ring, be lifted, from the shoulders of Jonathan. He kept thanking Gary and I for making the long trip out to Brownfield and recover his wedding ring. Gary and I thanked him for placing his trust, in us, to recover his ring. It’s not something we take lightly and we love helping others, get their sentimental rings back.
As Gary and I were driving back home, we were rehashing the day’s events. By the time we got home, we would have driven 216 miles, been gone for 7 hours, recovered 2 sentimental rings (in just 15-20 minutes of actual search time) and loved every moment of it. The smiles on Joe and Angela’s faces, in Greenwood and the smiles on Jonathan and Cory’s faces, in Brownfield were all we needed, for fuel. We were both riding high, on cloud nine. We love our
jobs.😃❤️🙏

Sentimental Gold Ring Lost At Range Pond State Park, Poland, Maine, Found With A Metal Detector

At approximately 9:00am, Thursday morning, August 21st, I received the following message, from Renata

“Hello, last week a friend of mine and I went to Range Pond, in Poland, Maine and she lost her very sentimental gold ring. We have tried searching for it, someone came along with a metal detector and also searched but no luck!
I was wondering if this is anything that you could possibly help with?”

My reply
“Hi Renata, So sorry to hear this. I may be able to help. Does she know the location where the ring was lost, and the depth? “

Renata replied
“She does know the about location. I can’t imagine it would be very far down in the sand. She said it was lost while on the beach itself. When you are at range pond it would be all the way to the left side of the area where boats can come in and out. The exact location is about in the middle of that and the edge of the beach.
This is the ring.”

Renata then sent me some photos, of the area and of the ring
I replied
“ok, So it’s not in the water. If up on the beach, I would be concerned someone has found it already or even another Metal Detectorist. Let me look at an aerial view of the area and see if I can figure out the location. I will get back to you in a few minutes.”

I then sent Renata a photo and asked her if she could tell me if the ring would be in one of the 4 sections, that I had marked up and she then circled the area, of where she thinks the ring was lost. I then replied to Renata and reiterated my concern that they had already had another metal detectorist search that area, and hadn’t found it. I also told her that I could go and search the area once again. I really didn’t know if the other metal detectorist has any experience or what kind of detector they were using. After all, it was just someone that they saw and asked for help. I Also asked Renata if her friend, Hope, saw or felt the ring come coming off and if the ring could have been lost somewhere else.
Renata replied
She said that it was in the pocket of her bag and then was not when she was home. I suppose it’s obviously possible someone snatched it.”
I replied
“Yeah, It just seems strange the other detectorist didn’t find it. Since it was in a bag, could it have fallen out, in her vehicle, parking area, as she walked out of the park, etc? If she hasn’t, she should report it lost to the State Park. If you would like me to search, I could go up today, around 4:pm, when people are leaving.”
Renata told me that Hope had reported the ring lost, to the Park Ranger, at Range Pond State Park. I then told her that I would definitely go later, in the day, as people left the park and the beach would not be crowded. When a beach is crowded, you just can’t perform a proper grid search, with everyone on the beach. Renata told me she would not be able to meet me there because they were on Peaks Island. That was ok, because I had a very detailed area, to search.

Cheryl and I arrived at Range Pond State Park, at just prior to 4:00pm and found the Park Ranger to tell him I was there to search for Hope’s lost ring. The Park Ranger, Walter, then told me someone else had searched for the ring last night. Walter also told us the guy “looked like a professional” metal detectorist WOW! A second metal detectorist has now searched for the lost gold ring. Walter was told that the ring was not found. Now I’m doubting if the ring is actually there. Has it been found, lost somewhere else. It happens all the time. Walter also told me that he wasn’t very pleased the “professional” metal detectorist, from the night before . That metal detectorist has dug holes, in the beach and didn’t fill them in, but just leaving the holes, for anyone to step in. Definitely not good. Once Cheryl and I got on the beach, there were a few groups of people in the center of the beach, where the ring was thought to have been lost. So, I decided to start on the far left side of the beach, as you face the pond. I would grid search the area, from the water, up to the trees and back to the waters edge, working my way towards the middle of the beach. As I was grid searching, I was finding many small fishing sinkers and a few coins. I thought to myself that with two different metal detectorists searching the area, in the past four days, those should have been found. More importantly, more people had left the beach and now there were only a few people, on the beach. I was now approaching the center of the beach, after approximately 45 minutes of searching and I started to see the many dug holes, left by the ‘professional’ metal detectorist. To me this wasn’t a good feeling, concerning the lost ring. I decided to continue, until the entire beach had been searched. About 15 minutes later and just a few feet from some of the dug holes, I received a nice low tone, reading 27-28 on my VDI screen. I didn’t get too excited because that is also the exact VDI reading, of a nickel. The target was reading 0 (Surface) to 2 inches down, in the sand. I took my hand and started wiping the sand away. All of a sudden, there it was, a gold ring with some stones. I was stunned!!! Dug holes less than 10 feet away, two metal detectorists searched this exact area and yet, it was still here. Amazing. I looked at Cheryl , up under the trees, in the shade (yes, she’s the brains, of the family and I’m the sweaty brawn) and yells “I FOUND IT” as I gave her a thumbs up. Cheryl came right over and she couldn’t believe it either. Four days on a public beach and two other metal detectorists searched for the ring, in this exact area. Crazy.

I then took a photo and sent it to Renata, saying, “Does this look familiar?”
Renata’s reply was,

“Stop!!!! We both just screamed!!!
Literal tears of joy!!
How can we pick it up from you??”

We then made plans for Hope to meet me in Windham, as that is where she lives and it is on our way home.
Approximately 45 minutes later, Hope arrived and you could see just how much this ring meant to her. She was just so excited and happy, to see her ring again, after thinking it was gone forever. Hope was smiling ear to ear as she told us that the ring was actually a gift that she had fought for herself, after giving birth to her son, a few years earlier. She called it her “Birthing Gift, to myself, after her son was born. To Hope, this ring represented the birth of the most important person, in her life, her son. Thankfully the ring has had a rebirth and is now back on Hope’s finger, where it belongs. I am just so happy to have a small part in the rebirth. I have the best job, in the world.😀❤️🙏
