I got a call a few days ago from a young dad who was playing toss and catch with his 10-year-old son in the water of Lake Champlain. His mother owns a cute little camp on the shore and it’s a beautiful place to spend a Summer day. Unfortunately, his ring didn’t fit properly, and when he went to catch the ball, he felt his ring fall off. He stayed right on the spot and searched with his hands and visually, and it had just disappeared. So he knew a fellow who had a metal detector that he could borrow. The problem was there is so many signals that it was impossible for him to recognize the right signal.
After his search attempt, he figured he needed some experienced help. He saw an article in Vermont Digger that was published last week about my hobby and The Ring Finders and gave me a call. We arranged a time he could be available to show me the area.
I got there today and met him and his very nice mom. He waded out with me and did his best to take me to the exact spot. There was a south wind blowing so the waves were bouncing us around a little bit. We made a few passes and then he decided we needed to go further out into the lake. I got quite a few signals, dug a couple targets and then in about 15 minutes I got off really nice signal, scooped it up and there it was! The three of us were so excited and relieved! He had lost a little weight and is now going to get his ring resized.
