Missing gold ring recovered in Marco Island, Florida

from Sanibel Island (Florida, United States)

Lovely Dorthea (pictured below) called this morning requesting my detecting services after having lost her emerald/diamond/gold ring off of her finger as she was cleaning the railing of her tenth floor condo balcony.  The ring had flew off her finger and fallen 10 stories below into the thick/dense grass.

After being unable to locate the ring herself, Dorthea called for help.  Within 30 minutes of detecting, the dropped ring was recovered!

Missing platinum wedding band found for newlyweds in Gulf near Sanibel Island, FL

from Sanibel Island (Florida, United States)

December 8, 2012

While shelling in the cool and refreshing waters of the Gulf of Mexico off of Sanibel, this newly married couple realized that the husband’s platinum wedding band had gone missing. The couple was extremely distraught as the band holds much sentimental value to them.

After searching extensively on their own, the couple gave me a call the next morning.  Within a few hours of the call, my wife and I were each in the water detecting.  Another few hours had passed with no success of finding the missing ring–we were all very discouraged.  After consulting with the couple again as to the exact area where they thought the ring went missing, my wife and I decided to split up again and return to the water to search.

After several minutes–SUCCESS!   The ring was found a few yards outside the search area.  My wife and I reunited the couple with the ring.  Hugs, tears and many thank you’s were exchanged and the couple can now rest easy knowing the missing ring is back on the husband’s finger where it belongs.

While checking-out of The Sundial Resort on Sanibel Island, Mike realized his platinum wedding ring was missing! It had rarely left his finger since his marriage to Erika, ten years ago. But, now, it was GONE!

His best guess was that it was lost at sea… a casualty of playing football on a sandbar, 20-30 feet off the beach. He emailed us a map outlining where he thought it might be, and when the wind and tide were right, I drove out to the island and got to work.

Hours of thoroughly searching the area, in knee-to-waist-deep water, turned up nothing but junk. But, I wasn’t about to give up and returned to give it another go, finding it in the dip between the beach and the sandbar.

Funny thing is, when it happens… when you find yourself staring down into your scoop at that ring… time tends to stop in it’s tracks! You blink a lot, as if to make sure your eyes are working right, and then you just stand there for a minute, in awe.

Minutes later, I’m on the phone for the best part of all… Mike’s reaction when I tell him, “I found your ring”!

The inscription: Love Always, Erika!
