Platinum and Diamond Earring Lost – Found by The Ring Finders Portland, OR

  • from Hood River (Oregon, United States)

Tracy showed me the plum tree branch that brushed her ear and caused the loss of her Platinum/Diamond earring the day before. Daytime and nighttime (flashlight) searches were unsuccessful so friends suggested “The Ring Finders”. When a platinum or gold earring is the target I use a specialized small gold tool, the Makro Racer Gold with small elliptical coils. Below a small pile of grass, that Tracy had made while searching on her hands and knees, was the beautiful earring she had worn every day for the past 5 years. Very happy and amazed by the technology, in experienced hands, were her and her husbands reactions.

Tracy, it was my pleasure finding your earring and talking with you and Dan. Thank you for the call.

Iraq Veteran Reunited with lost Military Academy Ring (Found by Del Witters)

  • from Hood River (Oregon, United States)

I got a call from Pete on Sunday asking what the chances were of finding his 1994 West Point class ring on a Portland Beach with a metal detector. My reply, excellent, provided no other detectorist locates it or it’s not a visual find, what are the details. On Saturday, he put his wallet, keys, and ring on his sandals to play with his dogs. At some point the dogs knocked the items off the sandals and when they left he forgot about his ring because it wasn’t visible. When he got home he realized the ring was missing. He tried to find it by sifting the sand with his fingers, no luck. He rented a metal detector but after 3 hours of “hot rock” signals, bottle caps, and a few coins he called it quits and located “The Ring Finders” and my info. Because Sunday was my anniversary and we had plans I agreed to meet him Monday morning. I drove two hours only to find the park closed for administrative reasons. After failed attempts to get access he asked if I could return and we met again on Wednesday at 0630. After getting the lay of the land I started my search. That beach was the most mineralized ground I have ever searched and I had a tough time detecting the quarter I found at 3” and the shallow nickel wasn’t any easier so I slowed my search considerably and investigated every signal. At 40 minutes my CTX indicated a shallow dime so I dropped the scoop in the sand and came up with a beautiful, large, United States Military Academy gold ring!

Pete’s reaction was pure elation and his very generous “Bear Hug” was heartfelt… that’s why I’m willing to travel, in this case a total of 8+ hours, to reunite folks with their treasured and possibly irreplaceable items. As a retired 26 year military veteran myself, this recovery was a little more personal to me – Thank you Pete for the opportunity and your military service!

Wedding Ring Found in Portland Oregon by Del Witters

  • from Hood River (Oregon, United States)

I received a call from Jennifer asking if I could help find her wedding ring that she lost while gardening. We chatted a bit, made arrangements, and the next morning I drove 2 hours to her home. She showed me the likely areas in her garden and several pots that might be hiding her ring. Jennifer and her husband Dave explained that they bought an inexpensive metal detector but had no luck with it. I showed them my gear, gave them a short demo using Dave’s ring which was nearly identical and started searching. I handed them some coins I found in a couple areas and then got a good tone with some mineral feedback; I told her this looked promising. A light dig and use of my pro-pointer unearthed the beautiful wedding ring with several diamonds and large amethyst. Jennifer and Dave couldn’t believe it and were excited and thankful that she had her ring that she had worn since their special day in 1995. Jennifer and Dave were great folks and will be a  memorable “Ring Finders” first call out.
