Gold Wedding Ring Lost in Yard – Found – by Del Witters

Started with an email and my immediate phone reply. Tom had lost his ring about a week ago while either spreading chips or digging a few holes in his front yard. He attempted to find it with a rented metal detector with no luck. He cited a faulty detector or his lack of knowledge, maybe a little of both, which is a very common report from my clients; hire an experienced metal detector specialist – less headaches and time involved. I met Tom a few days later at his home and saw a huge pile of chips in the driveway and about a 2-3″ layer on the 25’x25′ yard.  Thankfully the pile of chips were dumped, not shoveled there by him, so I could skip the middle of pile and focus on the perimeter and the spread chips. Looked like my easiest search to date, and fortunately it was… 20 minutes after starting the search we were shaking hands with his found ring back on his finger.

As a newlywed he was very happy to have it back and plans to get it resized soon! Thank you Tom for the call and I was very pleased to help.

Footnote: Fox12 of Portland caught it all on tape… more to follow.

Family Heirloom Ring Lost in Lake near Redmond Oregon – Found by Del Witters

A day after the loss I got a call from Rich who said his daughter, while hitting a ball in the lake, saw her late Grandmothers wedding band fly into the water. Even though several people had looked for it, the poor visibility made it impossible to see. Could I find it, Rich asked, no problem was my response, but I hadn’t heard the rest of the story. He wasn’t at the lake and Lauren was leaving early the next day so I was going to be on my own; the client not able to help visually pinpoint the search area may make it more difficult, then again… the depth was thought to be 2′, Lauren was tech smart so she marked a GPS point and two headings to work between off an app on her phone, and she added a couple pictures. By using her info, Google Earth, and Garmin Mapsource I was able to piece together an image to take with me. I left early the next morning for the 2.5 hour trip to claim the area before the ski boats moored. I marked the position with my GPS, which was 3′ deep, picked some reference points and started my search. At about 3 hours of water time and a net full of trash I decided the ring must be deeper than thought or the GPS point was off, maybe both. At 3.5 hours and armpit depth (4.5′) I scooped a small, ornate, white gold band with “Perla” inscribed in it; mission complete!

From door-to-door it was an 11 hour day but we saved an irreplaceable ring from the abyss or melt pile and this family heirloom is back on the right hand.  Lauren, your smile says it all, I’m so happy I could help!

Gold Wedding Ring Lost In Backyard Garden… Found by Del Witters

Paul’s email let me know he needed to find a ring at their home and they were moving soon. I called him the next day and made arrangements to meet today in Milwaukie, OR; what a beautiful Columbia Gorge ride on my motorcycle. Once I arrived he gave me the play-by-play. He was on the roof when he handed his wedding band to his wife and she put it in her shorts pocket only to discover it missing the next day. They believed it to be in the garden raised beds or backyard and borrowed a co-workers metal detector but had no luck finding it. Fast forward a month and Shawna found my Ring Finder profile and they put things in motion. My plan was to cover 3 of the 4 raised garden beds followed by the back and side yards before we had to remove the chicken wire off the 4th bed which would ruin the tomato plants. Two hours later and no ring so Paul ripped the wire off, shredding the tomato plants; mini-tomatoes were everywhere! The very last corner, of that raised bed, held the prize… Paul’s white gold wedding band, priceless!

Home Sold, Ring Found, time to move!  Thank you Paul & Shawna for the call and I wish you the best in your future home and marriage.
