Sentimental gold earring lost in Ottawa

  • from Ottawa (Ontario, Canada)
We received a message regarding a lost earring. Last Tuesday she was working in her garden when she got tangled up in the fencing. Her earring got caught, fell and disappeared. Her parents had bought them for her and they meant a lot.
She rented a metal detector but struggled with overhead wires and interference. Once she reduced the sensitivity, it could no longer pick it up. She found us on The Ring Finders and we were on our way.
We gridded a small area a good three times each, we expanded our search even further than we believe it could have gone. The garden gate had metal posts and it was even difficult for our pinpointers to scan around them. We spent 1 hour and still nothing. We cut some of the flowers down hoping we can get in closer to the ground. Another 20 minutes passed and still nothing. I went back to where she was when she got tangled up, I had a -7 ringing in at a depth of 8” but I heard a double tap, with a jumpy bit of a signal. The signal wasn’t registering as a surface item but the double tap told me to investigate. I heard my pinponter go off, I move the grass and there it was upside down with the stem up. Under my breath I said oh no, no way! Picking it up showing her I found it!
Super happy she placed the earring back in it’s case with the other one! Another happy ending.
I do have to admit, this had to be one of the most difficult recoveries but I wasn’t going to give up and sure enough it was found
