Lost Gold Chain in Columbia River – Found & Returned by The Ring Finders
Jose was swimming in the Columbia River near Hood River, Oregon when he noticed his chain was missing; the chain he received from his Mother and worn every day since. Frantically he searched the water where he thought it came off but a successful visual search is nearly impossible given a large body of water and sandy bottom. A couple days later he found The Ring Finders and my info. I explained that chains are an unusually tough target to detect but top-of-the-line equipment and the large clasp may work to our advantage. The sand spit they were on is roughly 1/4 mile long and their exact location was foggy. My first search lasted 3 hrs with no recovery. I returned the following day, by myself, and referenced a picture he sent me. According to the references on the picture we were off by 40yds on our first search. My 2nd & 3rd searches lasted about 2.5hrs each with the same results. On my 4th search, 2 weeks after the loss, the river had dropped 1.5′ which allowed me to rig up my XP Deus with HF Coil for water operations. Approximately 2hrs into that search, Bingo! A sharp tone, followed by slight sand movement with my foot, revealed a gold colored item & seconds later Jose’s chain was in my scoop.
Have I mentioned these events cause people to do crazy things… smile, hug, shake hands, and smile some more!!!
The focused task of a 4 day and 10 hour search was quickly forgotten when I reunited Jose with his special chain.
