Elliott was given a family crest ring made of solid gold. It was a gift from his father. During one winter afternoon, while Elliott’s three year old child was helping his father gather up fallen sticks in their front yard, Elliott gave his special gold ring to his son and unfortunately it got lost. No one knew whether or not the ring ended up in the recycling bags out by the curb, in the house trash, or possibly out on the front lawn or maybe one of the side yards. Yet, it was the opinion of the young child that the irreplaceable keepsake was lost somewhere in the front yard. He thought it had slipped off of his finger and landed in the hard winter grass while he and his dad had been tending to the lawn cleanup.

Elliott searched the property with a metal detector and sadly he was not able to recover his family crest ring. Over the next two and a half years, the sad gentleman would try again and again to attempt a successful search and recovery of the gold jewel but unfortunately nothing turned up except digging up lots of metal junk beneath the earth.

At some point, Elliott looked online and decided to search for a professional metal detectorist who might be willing to come to his Potomac, Maryland property to try to find the missing family heirloom. Thankfully, my client found my services on a metal detecting directory called THE RING FINDERS. This is an elite international directory of metal detectorists who are specialists in recovering lost jewelry like the ring that Elliott’s son had lost.

Even though nobody knew whether or not the ring had been lost in the trash or in the recycling bags, I was still willing to give it a shot and search the family’s entire front and side lawns. As soon as I arrived, Elliott and his son showed me all of the places that they worked and walked during the time of the disappearance of the gold family crest ring. I then went to the car, grabbed all of my metal detecting gear out of the vehicle and eventually began the tedious search for the missing ring.

This search was not an easy one because the ring was now buried beneath the ground since it had been lost two and a half years earlier. This meant that I needed to dig up every target signal that could potentially end up being the ring that we were looking for. Over the next two and a half hours I dug up a lot of junk metal. I found old Coke, Pepsi and miscellaneous beer bottle caps. I uncovered random pieces of twisted metal and electrical wiring throughout the property, as well.

I could tell that my client was developing doubt within him as the clock kept ticking later and later. Yet, I kept a positive attitude and I was not moved by the fact that the only things that I had found up to that point was junk metal in the first couple of hours.

Every so many feet of scanning I had to stop, kneel down to the ground and begin digging up the curious metal target that registered on my detector’s computer screen. Each time I would end up finding just more “throw-away” pieces of garbage.

I am delighted to share that as I began scanning a positive target signal that fell in the range of a solid gold ring, I shared with Elliott that this could be the target that we were looking for. Though I had said the same line many a times before, I still conveyed my positivity that this could be the one! And as it turned out…it was the one!

I used my hand digger to break up the earth just as my pinpointer had finished isolating the very spot where the metal target was hiding. And there it was, a couple of inches beneath the dirt and grass! It was Elliott’s beloved yellow gold family crest ring! I found it! It was hidden about two and a half feet to the right of the driveway, approximately 12 feet from the front curb. I was so excited! I immediately grabbed the ring, raised it high in the air and quickly marched the treasure over to my client who was sadly sitting on the front porch step! He stood up and in complete unbelief Elliott made his way over to me to inspect the item. He couldn’t believe it! But it was true! I found it! I really did recover the unrecoverable!

The two of us hugged and gave each other a couple of high fives before Elliott went into the house to announce the great news! Within seconds, the whole family came outside and we all rejoiced and celebrated the return of the family heirloom ring! We then all bowed our heads and thanked the Lord for answering our earlier prayer! What a moment of joy it was! I could tell that the little boy was so relieved that the ring that he had once lost on the lawn was no longer a mystery to be solved…rather, a story to be shared for generations to come!
