Lost Necklace and Medallion Recovered in LBI – A Meaningful Family Heirloom Saved
Anthony posted in one of the local Long Beach Island (LBI) Facebook groups asking for help. His daughter had accidentally dumped a beach bag earlier in the day, unknowingly spilling a precious necklace and charms onto the sand. Dozens of people quickly jumped in to recommend my metal detecting recovery service, NJ Ring Finder, and around 1 a.m., Anthony sent an email through my business page.
I responded and asked him to call me in the morning, which he did. We discussed the details of the loss, and he mentioned his wife, Lisa, would be heading to the beach later that morning. I asked her to try and arrive early to secure the area where they had been sitting—marking off at least 30 feet to the north and south—since it was going to be a sunny and crowded beach day.
When I arrived, Lisa waved me down and walked me over to the spot. She carefully described what happened. Moments after turning on my detector and beginning the search, I received a solid low tone with a crisp, high-end chirp. I carefully scooped into the sand and out came an earring and a medallion—one item they hadn’t even mentioned at first. It turns out their daughter Naomi hadn’t told them she’d lost an earring, and the medallion had detached from the necklace.
I scanned the area again and got another clean low signal. This one I was almost sure would be the chain and cross, and sure enough, I recovered both. The entire search took just minutes, but the emotional impact lasted much longer. The cross belonged to Naomi’s grandmother, and the medallion belonged to her grandfather—both deeply sentimental family heirlooms that they feared were gone forever.
Everyone was stunned by how quickly I was able to recover such meaningful items. We shared a great conversation and some tears of relief before I packed up and headed out.
