Pinky ring lost and recovered from local park!

  • from Reading (Pennsylvania, United States)

Thursday October 10th was a cloudy, rainy day and I received a phone call from my wife informing me that her friend and co-worker’s daughter had lost a ring at one of our community parks and to expect a phone call.  As I was already on a search of a front yard trying to find a “lost” wedding ring from the summer and was still searching for it (but that’s another story), I received a call from Nikki S. who told me that she had received a unique pinky ring as a gift from a friend from her trip to Italy just two days ago, had worn it to Dietrich’s Park to attend a bon-fire and car smash pep rally for the local high school football team the evening before. She described the ring as silver and was vines of flowers and that she had it on when she got there and didn’t have it when she got back to the car.  I responded to the park and ironically met Nikki’s husband, J.R., who was tearing the car apart trying to find the ring.  He explained where Nikki and kids allegedly mingled around watching the events and the areas she did not venture to or beyond.  He had to get back to work and left.  I began my grid search and with the exception of a couple of freshly dropped quarters I was unable to find her ring in the grass.  The rain was now a steady downpour and I opted to return the next day, but as it turned out was even more rainy than Thursday.  On Saturday Oct.12th I returned to the park and began my grid from the opposite direction and expanded it to include a macadam and gravel driveway and the grassy berm.  I had searched slowly and methodically, and finding two more fresh drop quarters.  I had searched about 50 yards when I received another good signal and when I parted the grass blades…there it was.  101213 RING RECOVERY 001   I took a picture of it and sent it to Nikki, who called me and verified that it was her ring and that she would meet me at the park in a few minutes.  She apparently lives very close as she and her Mom, Cathy, arrived there in record time!  She was smiling from ear to ear when I returned the ring to her…A picture is worth a thousand words!  101213 RING RECOVERY 008
