First Lost Ring Recover of 2014, Airdrie Alberta

  • from Calgary (Alberta, Canada)

Early Bird gets the Worm . . .  errr . . . I mean ring.

Last night, no this morning at 1:00 am, I was awoken by my mobile phone buzzing ( I have it on vibrate at night) so as most would do ignored it then it went off again at 1:10 am. Thinking this must be very important I took a look and didn’t recognize the number but noticed there was a voice mail.  The voice mail said ”  my brother in law has lost his wedding ring can you come out now or tomorrow”.   Well, I was still half a sleep, so I sent a text message saying ” Text me the address and I’d be out at 9:00 am”.  Almost immediately I got a response with the address and a desperate plea to come out right away as it was lost on a main road and they were afraid the snow plow would come by and scoop it away.  I sent back “I’ll be right over”

Fifteen minutes later, I arrive at the address bleary eyed and still half asleep but dressed for the -15 C weather, with all my gear.  I was met by the brother in law, wife and husband.  It was explained that he opened his truck door and snow got on the seat so he brushed it off with his hand and the ring went with the snow into more snow.  By the time they called me they had already been searching for 2 hours and the snow had been all trampled down in the search area.  I started my search and after only 2 passes got a nice loud report from my Garrett ATPRO, as I scraped away the trampled snow a shiney White Gold Ring revealed itself.  They all voiced their gratitude for the service and return of the Wedding Ring that was only 3 years old. As you can see the husband was relieved to be out of the dog house.   I returned home to my warm bed to dreams of another recovery well done.

They were amazed that such a great website as TheRingFinders.com existed with Detecting specialists all over the world and one in there own town.

Lost Gold and Diamond Ring Recovered in Collingwood – Calgary

  • from Calgary (Alberta, Canada)

Over the holidays, I received a call from Kevin who had lost his gold wedding ring in the snow, while he was playing with his kids.  I got the directions to his home and he met me at the door.  Kevin explained how his ring was custom made and is one of a kind as the jeweler has retired and it can’t be duplicated.  So, besides the obvious emotional attachment to this ring there is also the fact that it just isn’t replaceable at any cost.

When he showed me the area I thought that it would be quite easy as it was a fenced back yard with no bushes but had a hill that they use for sledding.  I had a different opinion though as soon as I turned my detector on, my Garrett ATPro went wild from some source of EMI ( electrical magnetic interference).  I determined that there was a shallow electric supply running through the search area from the house to the garage.  I reduced the sensitivity to half and changed frequencies then re- ground balanced and it seemed to the trick.  Now that problem was resolved I was off to start my grid search. I surveyed the area for a good starting point which only took a minute as the area was relatively rectangular and I wanted to start at the base of the hill.  I expected the VDI to be in the range of 45 to 65 depending on the mass of the gold ring so I kept iron discrimination to 35 and used Pro  Mode Coin along with iron Audio On.

I started my grid search and after 3 passes of the coil got a signal, the VDI read 45.  I couldn’t get that lucky I thought, I scratched through the packed snow and out popped this amazing ring.  I am so happy that I was able to find it for Kevin and as you can see he was relieved and thrilled to get it back again.  Kevin said, the recovery of this very special ring made their holiday season for them.

Thank you for trusting The Ring Finders and me to recover your valuable ring for you Kevin.

Kevin was thrilled to have his ring recovered

Lost iPhone Recovered in Snow – Airdrie

  • from Calgary (Alberta, Canada)

I received an email this morning from Sean, he had seen me on www.TheRingFinders.com he explained that he had lost his iPhone 5s in Airdrie just before the gas station lot had been plowed and would I be able to find iPhones.  To which I responded with an emphatic Yes!
However, being Christmas I may not be able to get out right away. He explained in his email that he was in Edmonton so wouldn’t be able to show me where at was lost.  I recommended that he use Google Maps or Earth and pinpoint the location and the send me an image of the map.
A few minutes later I received the map with a circle around the area he thought it  was lost in. Fortunately, my wife gave me the morning off Christmas preparations so I went out and started scanning the plowed up piles of snow.  I set my Garrett ATPRO in the following way, Sensitivity: 1 notch down from full (I needed depth in the 4 ft piles of snow), Iron Audio: On (Lots of Trash i the area)  Pro Mode, Coins setting Iron Discrim set to 35.  Then I tested my iPHONE which cam up at 82-85 VDI.   I scanned about 30 ft of snow piles getting lots of Iron and foil targets which I dug and threw in the trash later.  Then at the end of one of the piles I got a high tone 85 on the display scratched around it with my Garrett Retriever and at about 4 inches out popped the iPhone.  After snapping some photos, I went home and fired off an email to him with my address for pick up. He responded, with a jubilant GREAT, and said he would arrange for pick up.  Another happy customer of The Ring Finders.

Lost White Gold Ring Recovered in Calgary – Bridgeland

  • from Calgary (Alberta, Canada)

I received a call on Saturday night while I was at a family Christmas get together, a gentleman explained that his wife had lost both her Wedding and Engagement ring. While I was busy that night I agreed to go out and do the search the next day.

Sunday,  I dressed in my winter parka and warm boots and gloves since it was -18° C ( approx 0° F) and went over to find Brigette’s ring, she came out right away when she saw me drive up and I inquired about the details of the loss and the area it was lost in, on the phone I had been told there was a lot of snow but I was pleasantly surprised there was only about 6 inches in the area where the rings were lost.  They had done there own search and found the wedding band but could not located the engagement ring.

I got out my Garrett ATPRO, Garrett Pinpointer and Garrett Retriever, the retriever is perfect for raking through snow.  The ring was White Gold so I set up my detector in Pro Mode, Coin setting, and Iron Discrim of 30, White Gold can range from 45 to 65 on the display depending on the mixture of metals mixed with the gold.  I set out a grid of the area and started my search, after finding some foil and coins I had seemed to have cleaned out the area of likely signals so it was time to search the grid in the other direction, 90° from the first scan.  After about another 15 minutes I got a scratchy  mid tone  and a 45 on the display. I was expecting to have a clear tone but scratched away the snow and ice crystals and there it was a beautiful White Gold and Diamond Engagement Ring.  When I presented it to Brigette she broke into tears of joy, which she wiped away for the picture I took. There is no better feeling than reuniting people with the valuables they thought they would never see.  Merry Christmas Brigette.

Lost Keys recovered in Snow

  • from Calgary (Alberta, Canada)

I received a call from Brandon, he had found me on The Ring Finders website ( www.TheRingFinders.com). He asked if I could find keys in the snow,to which I answered “I sure can!”.

It turns out Brandon was calling me From Red Deer Alberta a 250 km round trip from my my home in Airdrie. He had lost his Keys a week ago while shoveling his walks I’m front of the house and on the property and back drive plus he did the neighbors walks for them. The snow was piled up 3 ft high on each side of the sidewalks. When I arrived he pointed the area out to me and I decided to start in front along the public side walk. I tested my keys and was getting a Visual display ID of 75, so I figured his keys would likely be between 70 & 80. After completing the scan of the front of his yard I proceeded on to do the neighbors front yard and within 4 feet I got a clear but faint 75, I dug threw the snow and at about 1-1/2 feet up popped Brandon’s keys, he was thrilled!

He told me that it would have cost him over $350.00 to replace them not to mention the time and effort to do that. Brandon appreciated me coming out to find them for him as he thought he may never see them again. Once again The ring Finders to the rescue!

Lost Pendant Recovered in Calgary – New Brighton

  • from Calgary (Alberta, Canada)
I got called out to day to New Brighton in SW Calgary to find a Gold Chain and Pendant.  When I got there Jay showed me were him and his brother had been rough housing out in the yard last night.
Unfortunately before I got there he had taken a snow shovel and tried looking for the chain & pendant distributing the snow around the yard. I set to work griding the area and searching for a likely signal but found nothing in the area he had indicated. I expanded my search outside the designated area and got a loud 65, clearing the snow away I recovered the Pendant which Jay quickly took from my hand saying he thought he would never see it again. I still had to locate the chain. I completed the rest of the yard and re-scanned it one more time in the opposite direction but still nothing.
Puzzled, I asked Jay if he had checked the coat he was wearing because sometimes the heavier pendant falls off but the broken chain can catch on clothing. He said, he was pretty sure he had checked, so I went back to detecting hoping for the best. Jay had disappeared for awhile, then called me to say he had taken another look at the coat and Found the chain in the hood of he coat.
I love helping folks find their lost precious items.

Lost Platinum Ring Returned in Okotoks Alberta

  • from Calgary (Alberta, Canada)

I received a call this weekend, it went like this;

Hi I have never called anyone with a metal detector before.  I said, ” you still haven’t you used a phone” there was a long pause then followed by a  laugh as my weird sense of humor was realized.

He said, “my wife has lost her platinum wedding band can you find it ?”  I assured him that is it’s there I can find it, and I rushed out to his acreage just outside of Okotoks Alberta about a 1 hour trip but time is of the essence when finding lost items.

Once I got there I was told that their 18 month old and grabbed Mommy’s rings. 3 of them and tossed them off the deck each in a different direction they had found two but the wedding band had evaded there search.

I started up my detector and started hunting for a Platinum Signal, yes my detector can locate all kinds of different metal, within 15 minutes I got a strong Platinum signal which is identified by numbers in the range of 47 on the Garrett AT-PRO metal detector. I got down and parted the thick grass and there was the gleaming Platinum Wedding Ring.  Mom & Dad were thrilled to have the ring returned, Mom had to dry her tears of joy so I could get this picture.

Lost Ring in Calgary Recovered

  • from Calgary (Alberta, Canada)

Three Times a Charm . . . errrr Ring!

The other night my phone rang at 10:30pm and a gentleman explained that he had lost his white gold wedding ring.  I could tell by his voice he was quite distraught over the loss.   I agreed to come out right away and arrived at his business 30 minutes later.  Robert took me down an alley to a parking space that had snow but most of it was trampled down and there where foot prints every where.  I was told his enthusiastic employees had come to help him find it and kicked around in the snow and one even got a snow shovel and started shoveling snow.

One person explained to Robert that he had a friend once that called someone with a metal detector that helped find a ring.   Robert Googled and found me at TheRingFinders.com

(1) I got to work right away I had Robert re-enact  how he lost his ring and I started my search in that area.   After 2 hours in the dark cold alley, I had only found tons of bad signals, I scraped down to ice every signal but due to the nature of back alley ways and parking spots, all I was finding was foil pennies and junk.  I told Robert, hat I would come back in the morning and try again in the light of day.

(2) Arrived back there at 9 am and in the light was able to grid the area properly.  I worked the grid in 3 directions but again still did not locate the ring.  I was positive it was there but after 3 hours I had to go to work so had to give up.

(3) Robert called me again today and said he had put a bunch of Salt out to melt the ice, I said I would come out and try a third time.   After I finished work, I drove over and with plenty of sun light left started my search again after 10 minutes I decided to check a snow bank about 2 feet from the edge of my grid and about 15 feet from where Robert though he had lost it I got a sharp clear signal scooped up some snow at the target site and there it was gleaming in the snow.

Roberts Ring found
Robert was thrilled to get his ring back, he had only been married for 8 months and agreed to have his ring resized to fit a bit tighter.
I just love putting smiles back on faces.
Robert with Ring
