I was on the phone with my partner, Curtis Cox when I got the call. Call ya right back. A guy I worked for doing Leak Detection, was out playing golf at La Costa. His buddy hand taken his ring off to put on sun screen. (Forgot) and went on with the next few holes before remembering, ah shit my ring. They traced their way back knowing about where it might be. Sorry Not a fairway. Tall grass area. After a walk around for 1 hr. He remembers my RingFinders story and gives me a call.  I told him I’ll get my partner to head over and we’ll b down shortly.  I called Curtis back, Dude, Grab your detector, we’re hunting La Costa Golf Course. I was on the way in 10 min with Curtis on his way too.  We meet up by the Fire Department. I jump in with Curtis and we follow them down the private road, out onto the cart path and head north along the fairways. They take us to area of Sunscreen app.  We grid that whole area but nothing. The guy who lost it takes off in the cart to another area. Now I’m told wait, I think he went up this little hill to help find the other players ball. So we walk up and I start to grid.  Curtis just finished first area and is on his way over. At that point they pull me acrossed the fairway to another area. I tell Curtis He drove right thur here and head over. I get there and first I start to check their cart. Lift the seat as Curtis walks up and says, it aint in the cart. Are you sure what kinda ring it is. Steel, Tit ? at that point I look at Curtis’s hand and its closed. Ha. He hands it to me and I hand it to the owner. OMG. Wait . It gets better.  A man walking his dog with his wife yells ” did ya find my watch”? I replied, No, But we did find his wedding ring. They turn and come stright over to us. Wow thats great. He asked if I’m from here.? I pointed to the big house right there and said my Dad built that house for Mr. #^<*> back when I was in 6th grade. Really he says, Big smile as his wife says thats our house. (WOW) they Invited us up to show Curtis the custom front doors my Dad installed. From like 16/1700’s Spain. OMG. Its a small world after all.  Curtis Cox did the recovery but due to this story wanted me to write it. We hunt together and our team dont miss. We cover large areas because of TEAM WORK. We are  at 100% for 2015 other then water losses. In the waves.  Glad to be part of this group.

Ring lost in 2014, reurned a year later

  • from Carlsbad (California, United States)

On another Leak Detection I meet a man, Ray Sharpe. He is at his daughters house to help with a leak in her main water service. As we talk and he see’s my RingFinders lic plate frame he tells me he wished he met me last year, I ask why’s that ? He shows me his hand without a ring on it. 47 yrs he tells me he wore his wedding ring that was made for him. So I ask where did you lose it. He tells me the story of diggin at the beach with his grandson and comin home with no RING. He bought a detector and tried to find the ring with no luck and gave up. So now knowing where it was lost, I ask what does it look like and I’ll put it out to all the guys. As soon as he says, 4 dimonds going left and 4 dimonds goin right, my head drops. Ok get a piece of papper and draw it for me. (I knew I had it already) I told him I might have it, Watch my tools and I’ll run home and be right back. As I get in the van to leave his daughter comes to my van and asked if I really think I have it. I scroll thru my pics and bring it up. THATS IT. OMG. I must say this was a special ring the min I dug it while lookin for a lost Plat ring for someone else. (Found too)
It had my lucky number ( 8 ) dimonds on it but it had something more. A feeling I have never had in 20 yrs of detecting. I posted the find on CL but no body claimed. It became my SPECIAL RING, I wore it on special days.
As I pull in their driveway with ring in hand I know why this is
(was) so special.
I walk up to Ray as he holds out his hand and drop his special ring in his hand. At this point I dont remember all that was said and dont really care. I know this cannot be topped in my lifetime
and I am thankfull to be a part in this story. I made a friend.

Lost Ring Carlsbad, Ca

  • from Carlsbad (California, United States)

Got a call form a man at my local beach, Any chace you could help me find my ring today. Sure can I’m 7 mins away. See ya soon.
Pull up and he’s saved me a spot to park. Grab my Whites PI and head out with him.
He shows me a 15×15 ft area, so I walk to the far left side to start, he gestures in front of him. I just smile. I do one loop around the square and stop. His wife again shows me over here. I get eye contact with her to let her know I got it. I ask him one more time, he says I threw ball and it went right here. I smiled and with my scoop did one scoop and handed him the bucket to remove his ring. Damn. People sitting to the right all start clapping. Its a good feeling.

Lost Engagement Ring, Beacons Beach, Ca.

  • from Carlsbad (California, United States)

Monday morning get a frantic phone call, I am at Becons beach and my girlfriend dropped her ring. I am only five min away so I’ll be right over.

When I get there I see a guy walking back and forth at the bottom of the cliff. Grab the detector and head down. I meet Scott and he tells me he’s been looking for two days with a rented detector.

It’s late morning and the beach is gettin more and more people coming down. I grid 100′ X 50′ for a couple hours but no ring, few coins and hand full of trash. I tell him I will come back at sunset and bring my partner Curtis Cox.

5:00 pm I go down onto the beach to meet up with Scott again, I tell him Curtis is on his way and I start on my grid again. I cover the whole area again but slower, Curtis shows up and starts working the area we believe it to be in.

After he works over close to me, I stop to tell Scott I need to shut down and let Curtis work over this area, cause he’ll find it. 15 seconds later Curtis breaks out laughing, shakeing his scoop with a ting ting ting. He couldn’t even speak. Two days of heart break is washed away with cheers from all the people on the cliff watching the sunset and us…
